I love this place! Durfee has a cozy, small business atmosphere focused on the customer that is hard to find at the big chain stores. They usually have what I need and, if they dont, the staff is always friendly and will point you in the right direction.

This shop is the opposite of big box, and describing them as a chain retailer does them disservice. Durfee Hardware is preposterously overstaffed with friendly, helpful people. Multiple employees will offer to assist you every time youre in the store. Mr. Durfee is frequently in the store himself and has a great depth of knowledge on most home repair jobs. There are many older houses in eastern Cranston, and as they have been serving the neighborhood for decades, Durfee Hardware is particularly well-stocked in exactly the types of products needed to maintain the homes in the surrounding area. They can explain how to fix whats broken, then show you the things you need to do the job right.

Place to go for small quantity items and older products to fix all sorts of things meaning, they have the parts or can get you the parts you need to finish your project. Very helpful staff. Great place to goto for a quick got to get item.

This is my favorite hardware store of all times! I used to live close; now we travel over 30 minutes (a lot for RI drivers) to shop there. If you need quality tools (better than at big box hardware stores), a small part that’s very hard to find, or screws/nuts/nails/bolts etc by the pound or just a single one, they’ve got them at a very fair prices. Mr. Durfee, alas, is gone, but he’s got an amazing staff that he trained to be professional, helpful, and kind. Think of the old time hardware stores with dusty floors, but the best service you could ever have. That’s Durfee’s Hardware store!

What a GREAT hardware store. I love the Old New England feel! Those old wooden floors creaking was the icing on the cake. Old fashion hardware store with all the modern products. The prices put the large box stores to shame. Nice work Durfee.

The whole staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They have the largest key section I have ever seen, and were able to cut keys for my 90 year old locks. I cant say enough about how helpful they are.

I usually go to the big boxes, but I went in because I needed a particular item, and I was already on that street. I was greeted when I walked in, and again by the young woman working the hand tool section upstairs. She spent 10 minutes helping me, and could not have been nicer. Reasonable prices, too (I expected it to be more expensive). They really did provide superior service, and I was in and out in 11 minutes. Quite an impressive store :)

I stopped in today with an old worn out shutoff valve. The gentleman at the plumbing counter cleaned it and put on a couple of new parts. I went home screwed it back on and all fixed. This kind of service does not exist at the big box stores and I cannot than you enough!! They are awesome!!

I thought price gouging was illegal? I needed some light bulbs. At the register they were selling small bottles of hand sanitizer for $15.99, a pack of 10 paper masks for $30.and cheesy gloves way overpriced. Thankfully the pharmacy i go to has boxes of gloves 100 for $8.00. I think Its awful the gouging thats going on in this tiny little state.

I go to Durfees Hardware store when I need the tiniest nut and bolt, weird size of anything, theyve got it. All old fashioned accessories, to replace or repair old sentimental items. Most of the time, Durfees has what youre looking for. And it hasnt really changed. The interior is nostalgic.

LOVE this store. You just cant find this kind of local service and help anymore. All of the Ace hardware stores are just small Walmarts. The people here actually answer the phone when you call the store. Staff is beyond helpful and friendly and they even help load orders to your vehicle. Great service! I didnt have to chase a clerk down just to have them tell me it wasnt their department. They took me right to the section I needed and stayed with me to make sure I got what I needed. A little more expensive than the box stores but worth the convince and service. A rare gem these days.
