These guys are the best! I would never take my car anywhere else. They are trustworthy to diagnose the real issue and fix it as cost effectively as possible. You dont have to worry about them taking advantage of their customers. Besides fixing anything that breaks, when we were considering a used car, we brought it to them and they did a complete inspection so we were confident that we were getting the car we wanted. On top of that, they are friendly and professional. When they provide an estimate of the work, you can be confident youll pay that price or less.

I ended up bringing my vehicle here after my car began leaking coolant all over the ground. While not my normal mechanic, they were still able to get me in within a timely manner and give me a diagnosis. While the repair was very expensive and I didn’t go through with it, they still treated me professionally and took very good care of my piece of **** vehicle.I’m glad I made it here. And the guy who handled my vehicle was Mike, highly recommend him.

I have no more trust in Douglas Automotive Repair. After 20 years, bye-bye. I took my 2011 Accord in to have the A/C inspected and was told I needed a new compressor - total job roughly $1250. I was also told lower ball joint needed replaced - total job roughly $680. Plus some other recommended maintenance items (struts - front and rear, fluid changes, spark plugs, etc.) bringing total estimate to just over $5100. Took same car to dealer where a general inspection was done. No A/C compressor change required. Ball joints were not pointed out as an item needing replaced. They are NOT the same place I have been bringing my car to. I dont know what changed but I do not trust them anymore.

Douglas Automotive was very helpful and honest. We experienced a minor accident and they helped us find a tow and provided fair pricing estimates for all fixes needed. Mike also did some part ordering for us to ensure it didn’t end up on back order. I would recommend Douglas to anyone looking for car maintenance or repairs!

I brought my Ford Escape in because the check engine light was on and it wasn’t driving right. Everyone there was super helpful and great at explaining what all was going on. Mike was great at calling me back and breaking everything down. He took care of calling the warranty company and getting all of that situated as well. So nice to have a local repair and maintenance shop with people who demonstrate care for their customers, and take pride in their work. We went to another shop for 30+ years, so when thet they closed we tried the dealership. It was nice they gave me a loaner, but I never developed a trusting relationship with the employees. I went in for a broken tire rim on my Mercedes. They quoted me a price for a refurbished tire rim and I accepted. The following day I went back in for repair.They wanted to keep my old broken tire rim for a price, called core charge of $33.00.I just paid $366:00 for the refurbished tire rim and install. They wanted $33 more from me, for me to keep MY old tire rim! Total $399.00.I paid the $366.00 was glad my car was fixed, and went home.At home the windshield washer fluid started leaking....on my driveway.... I went back the next day and they told me to go away and I had no proof that they had damaged my car while working on it.Now it’s going to cost me $300- or more to fix a problem that they created. THEY BROKE MY CAR!!!

I have been using Douglas Automotive for about seven years. They are incredibly thorough and extremely good at repairs. They stand by their three-year, 36,000 mile warranty. I recently had an air conditioning unit they had repaired that failed. They replaced it at no cost to me. Douglas, the owner, is a super, stand-up guy and of the highest character. Highly recommend! Had nothing but good things to say about Douglas Automotive after having my previous car serviced at the Barrington location. Didnt think twice about taking my truck to the CL location. Dealt with Chris who was a very helpful and nice guy.Needed a throw out bearing to correct a squeeling noise and had them do a few other recommended things. A few days after having it fixed the issue came back, took my truck back, and was told that they heard the noise again as well. After re-inspecting and having already spent a good chunk of change it was ruled out as a nuisance noise and there wasnt much else they could do. Unfortunately, that is not an acceptable answer for me and was really expecting them to stand behind their work more.Im thinking this will be my last trip to Douglas Auto.

During my recent visit for a oil change and tire rotation the service was done quickly. I was even provided a computer workspace to address work issues. They discovered that my transmission fluid needed changing and it was addressed during the same visit. They did not push a thousand other things but suggested considerations for future visits. A class organization from top to bottom.

This was my first time at Douglas and I must say that I was impressed with the entire experience. When I called to get pricing Chris was super nice and up front. After getting estimates from other places Douglas blew them out of the water by almost half the cost. I dropped my wifes car off and they did a full inspection on the car and to my surprise I received a text message with a link of the what they found with pictures. This is an awesome thing to see as most places just say you need things done and you have to take their word for it. I thought I needed brakes and Chris double checked and honestly told me that we are fine on brakes. Chris and Ty (SP?) were super friendly and a pleasure to work with. Definitely will be coming back here for any future needs!!

They consistently go above and beyond and I completely trust them to give me truthful advice about caring for my car. While waiting for my oil changes in their (super clean and very hospitable) waiting area I often hear them come out and thoroughly explain to customers what their options are with repairs and maintenance. They genuinely listen to the customers concerns and -get this- actually CARE enough to take them into consideration while they help them decide on what to do.After that, they respect whatever course of action the customer ultimately decides on and handles it for them. Emission test failure. Sent to Douglas auto for diagnostics and repair to pass Emission test. They got it done the FIRST time. They even sent my vehicle in for emission test for me. Stress free!

Because they handle business the way it should be. Meaning upfront and honest not hiding anything or pulling punches. They are knowledgeable about what they do. I have a diesel truck that I put premium in - 19 gallons - I had it towed to Douglas. They had the gas out, and five gallons of diesel in, in about two hours. I was able to resume my day pretty nearly uninterrupted.My truck has been cared for at Douglas for the last 7 years, and they have taken care of all of our other cars since about 2000. The mechanics are great, and the service writers are as well. I have never been anything but very satisfied with all aspects of their service.

We recently purchased a new truck for one of our daughters and wanted to have it looked over before finalizing the purchase. I thought they would just look it over and tell us what they thought, I really didn’t expect much more. I called with some questions and Edward walked me through the report and helped me understand the good and the bad things about the vehicle. Was told 40 min for an oil change service. It took 90. Tighten up on your promise times. After 30 min, someone should have come to the waiting room to give me an updated promise time.

We took one of our company trucks to this shop first time this week.First thing they did - they provided a very detailed report with the truck issues which were separated in required recommended and other. Each item had a picture attached.Surprisingly the prices were very fair and affordable.They did chosen repairs the same day and gave me a quote for the rest when Im ready.They also replaced a tension pulley on the house since they were working in that area and didnt feel good leaving my truck unsafe.This is my go-to mechanic from now on.Thank you Chris and the team

Just moved to the area, glad I found a new trustworthy and reliable shop. Great customer service, and honest in their work/quotes. I brought my truck in somewhere else for an oil change and they told me i needed all 4 ball joints replaced IMMEDIATELY. Brought it over to Douglas to get a second opinion and they told me only 2 of them needed to be done. Got a fair quote, and great customer service.

I have brought my car to DOUGLAS and so has my family and everything they have done to the cars we had to get redone because they didn’t do anything right. They told my sister that she had a crack in her water pump but when she brought her car to Land Rover they said it was never cracked and that someone at Douglas had to crack it because she would of saw puddles on the ground under her car which she never did and she would of had a sweet smell in her car which she also never smelt! I would not recommend bringing your car here if you don’t want to pay 2 times to fix it or have to pay for stuff that’s not broken!

I needed a water pump replaced on an old Ford pickup truck. A friend suggested Douglass. I wasnt disappointed. They gave me the best price for the labor. The other shop quoted be much more for the job.Always get more than one opinion and quote to make sure its fair. I can definitely say I would reccomend them for future repairs.

I handed them a very complicated problem and they were upfront about how long it could take, we made a price agreement on when to contact me. My sons car broke down near Crystal Lake. We live about 40 minutes away. This place came up on the top of ther Google library and had decent ratings. So glad it did. The service man was so kind. He arranged towing through a local company and made it so I could pay for it when I got there. They looked over the car right away so we would know what was going on since my son needed a car for work. My husband and I both worked far away and couldnt get there right away. They made my son feel comfortable and I didnt have to worry. Unfortunately, the car wasnt worth fixing. My husband said they did a fair pricing estimate. They then gave us numbers to local car dumps and let us leave the car there for several days, no storage fees, so we could make a decision. Im so grateful they were the place that came up in my search. They were so kind and helpful. Thank you for making a bad situation much easier to deal with!!

I am surprised at the lengths these guys go to, to make their customers happy. Im not at all surprised at the loyalty their customers exhibit. They have longtime mechanics who are very knowledgeable and will go out of their way to determine what the issues are and to repair them to last. They do have more than one branch but I am only familiar with the Crystal Lake facility.

Upfront and informative, not pushy and don’t try to make you feel dumb. Waiting room is comfortable but the TV could be turned down a few notches. Otherwise, both my visits have been positive.
