The On the Croque sandwich (a fancy grilled cheese with ham) did not skimp on ham and hit the spot. The Waffle Sandwich was good though the maple aioli was more savory than expected. The oat milk lavender latte was good as well. It is on the pricey/fancy side of quick service places...a good place if you aim to impress. An 18% tip is automatically added.

Back when you first opened…. there was a cool van that used to come and sell cactuses out front. My husband got me this adorable little onion cactus and I loved it….and it went crazy and we repotted it and every day I think of you guys because I look at it 😁 it’s probably been about three years now???? Not sure…..and it has quadrupled in size and my granddaughter loves it. 🤗❤️🤗

Hell on a corner. Would never ever eat here again. Was visiting town and saw this place had good reviews. My sister and I both ordered a coffee and a Belgian waffle with a side of bacon. Total was $45 and the coffee was in an extremely small cup size. The waffle was a plain waffle (an expensive plain waffle) and the bacon was so so burnt, it was so unenjoyable to eat. It was definitely not worth the price, it was probably about a five dollar meal Given the quality.

We were really hoping to like Folk- had it on our weekend plans for a few weeks. We tried to order online for pick up but the veggie options we wanted were sold out. Went up to the window and it turns out what was sold out online wasn’t actually the case. Ordered the sandwich alongside cappuccinos. We were told that it would be ready in 6-7 minutes. Got our coffees in about 10 - very weak, wouldn’t recommend. Had to wait 27 minutes for food. Food came without napkins so had to go back to the store, wait in line, to eventually request napkins.Very expensive for such a disappointing experience.

I was hoping this place would live up to the reviews but my friend and I were disappointed😞 The food was pretty expensive and the portions are quite small. They were also out of sandwich bread which unfortunately ruled out lots of the menu. We both only got a couple small things and the bill was around $30. My pesto pasta salad was bland and her soba salad was good but small. I got the Cafe Miele and liked it at first until I swallowed a lot of big chunks of cinnamon and ended up not being able to drink the rest. Super cute place and kind staff, but probably won’t be back😕

Folk Detroit is one of the best brunch places that Ive been to in Detroit. This adorable little restaurant is definitely small inside, but you dont necessarily feel cramped. The open kitchen, big windows, and AMAZING array of houseplants make the space feel big and fresh. Dont even get me started on the food... I had the house waffles and was just blown away. My partner had the basic brekky and she was in heaven. Our coffee and green tea were delightful as well.I love Folk Detroit and Ill definitely be going back. I hope everyone checks this place out!

It was a really good place to check out and explore. Excellent new brunch and breakfast spot to check out. The menu is small but the food is tasty. The highlight of the place, and what really pulls it together is the Reilly Ice Cream. I’ve been hoping a place would start to carry his ice cream so we could get scoops in a restaurant in Detroit for a while now. They did it, and it’s absolutely amazing. The ice cream is awesome, and you will be very very happy with it. I would recommend going here just for the ice cream.I found the rest of the food to have a small, but appropriate portion size, prices were a bit high, and I probably would shy away from coming back because of that. The food we got was flavorful and good, and had a unique spark to it. But that ice cream really earns this place it’s place in the book of destinations.

Review №27

Very expensive, 50$ for two sandwiches and a 10oz average coffee. It is a walk-up service at a window where we were told after ordering and paying, to wait out front for a text which will let us know our food was ready to be picked up. Waited about ten minutes and I began adding the math up of what we had ordered and the prices I had remembered seeing on the menu. Walked to the window to ask, as my receipt did not show a breakdown of what I was paying for, only a total. The person at the window went back and printed a more detailed receipt for me and I noticed they add an automatic 18% gratuity without even letting us know there was one. Well now about ten more minutes go by and someone peeks out the door and hands me the bag of our food. Phone rings the same time and we sit at one of the tables out front. Our friends had ordered immediately after we had ordered. I ate my food, ordered a waffle sandwich with bacon. Not bad, but not really worth the 16$, and a lack of portion amount. Waffle was dry, more like a cookie as the bread. Egg was good and so was the sauce. Bacon wasn’t as good as I would have expected out of a “fancy” place. Making casual conversation with our friend when finally we noticed that it had really been a while since we had received our food because we had now finished our sandwiches and had been finished for a few minutes. Still no text. My friend goes up to the window asking if they had forgot about them and they reply “oh your foods been ready” and hand them the food. Looking at the printed slip attached to the bag it had been ready for 25 minutes! When asked why no text was received they replied “oh sometimes it doesn’t work” well, wouldnt you think of peeking your head out, like the person who gave us our food, and letting the person who is sitting right in front of your building clearly waiting for their food, that it is ready!? Especially when you know your system doesn’t always text, and there is NO ONE else there other than you? Wouldn’t even re make the sandwich or even warm it up. And yet there’s a 18% automatic gratuity. Will not be back.

Good food, apprecIate that it’s locally sourced when possible, but be prepared to double the price of any other nice walk up place in Detroit. Also wanted to write this for this one suggestion- putting “side of greens” on your menu implies collard greens, not a tiny fresh arugula salad. Collards would have honestly made the price a little more worth it.

Amazing little foodie place in Det to grab brekky. The inside is super cozy and the vibes were on point. Even though the seating is a bit limited, this just makes you savor every moment youre here. Their menu rotates often, which I love because that means the next time, there is always something new and memorable to try. The counter/bar-top area is def the winner of seating placement. You get to see the coffee getting brewed, the staff working hard, and your delicious meals getting prepped. I remember seeing each dish that was prepared looked so exquisite and delicately prepared, so the presentation to each customer was top-notch quality.Folk offers Hyperion Coffee, local brewing co, and their entrees were quite delicious! We had the savory Aussie pie, Blue Chai Latte, and the House Waffles with buttermilk whip and berry compote. The Aussie pie had the perfect balance of buttery-ness and flaky on the outside. When you cut the pie in half, the meat, sauce and cheese would ooze out so you know the perfect temp created this masterpiece. To sweeten things up, the House Waffles were a fantastic pairing. The buttermilk whip was my fav part... could literally drink that non-stop.Overall, terrific first-time experience here. Even though you might have to wait a bit to grab a table, so worth it! In the meantime, you can always grab a cup of coffee/tea next door at Farmers Hand, check out the local record player store, and even the clothing store next door. Dont forget about the Ouizi mural by the side of the building!

The price is relatively high, and the gratuity is already included in your check, but that is the price of sustainable and high quality food in my opinion. This is my favorite local spot in Detroit. Their food is always excellent and high quality - variety changes regularly (with seasonality) so the menu stays exciting and there is an option for everyone (Im vegetarian). Since the pandemic I have relied on FOLKs weekend grocery pick-up for basic household staples (flour, pasta etc.), fresh (zingermans!) bread, great local produce, and fun rotating beers and wines. Online ordering is easy, the quality is always exceptional, and you know what your buying is supporting local growers and paying the staff LIVING wages. The owner is exceptionally kind and responsive. Check this place out and make it part of your weekly ritual!

I cant rate the place singularly as a foodspace - partially because it is not singularly that, but also because you cant truly ever seperate food from its context. That said, the food is pretty good and coffee is real good; plus, its really charming and comes at a generally fair price point for the fare and for FOLKs intentionality - that is, in being locally sourced and as an ethical employer. The grocery has a really impressive selection of high-quality goods, but I must admit that I struggle with the fact that its quite expensive and, therefore, inaccessible to a big part of the community. I can reconcile this, however, knowing that accessibility is a process, not a point and acknowledging that this is just one part of their larger mission.

This review is going to be odd because the food was so great and the service was also good, so please read the whole review. The menu was expensive as we spent over $50 for a brunch for two. The food was amazing, from their drinks (rose milk, and hot coco), to the beat smoked salmon, & concluding with both our main meals simply put, they were awesome. I believe everything is farm to table, locally grown and hand made. Still it was expensive. The service was good, any questions we had were answered with fine details and everyone was friendly. The thing that rubs me the wrong way is their automatic 18% gratuity - or as they call it hospitality charge. This tells me two things; one they know they are overcharging for their food. Two if they really supported equitable distribution of wages (quoted from their menu), they would pay their employees a higher wage and not allow for tips at all. I know this may sound like a crazy idea, but it allows the employee same ability as adding an 18% gratuity and that way it is put back on the owner, and not the consumer. Equitable distribution of wages is not a consumer issue, it is an owner issue and treating their employees fairly should NEVER be taken up with the consumer.I try to never complain without offering a solution. If they wanted to make equitable distribution of wages, they would pay their employees a higher wage, make it know to the guests and if the guests would like, they could add an extra tip if they please. Its a simple solution that would treat the employee and consumer fair.

The food is good, the coffee is not. An anomaly considering the place positions itself as a breakfast and lunch restaurant. The killer is that basic cream is not offered, only milk and non-dairy products. Butterfat absorbs the acidity in coffee thus making the beverage easier on the stomach as well as giving coffee its rich, velvety texture. Also, free Wifi is not offered, presumably to get you out of the door more quickly. Its too bad as the place is friendly, and flooded with sunshine. It wouldnt take much to make this a destination place.
