I sent my prized 1978 Telecaster to Aperio guitars for a refret. I wanted to give Greg a shot at refretting one of my favorite guitars. I shipped the guitar to Greg. Within a few days Gregg called me with a review of his findings, helped me pick the stainless fret size that would fit my playing style (and neck), and scheduled the refret . I waited {nervously) for my Tele to be returned. The guitar came back on the date promised. WOW!!! The guitar / fretwork he did was incredible. I did not realize how hard my Telecaster was to play until Gregg used his refret magic on it and returned it to me. The guitar playability improved 10 fold. Actually, had I been blindfolded and given 3 guitars to play I would have picked my tele as the best playing, but, would not have known it was MY TELE !!! Yes, he is THAT good!!! And the icing on the cake-these are STAINLESS FRETS!!! Doubtful this guitar will ever need another refret. Great work Greg. Tried to give you 10 stars but 5 is the limit!!Dave S
Friendly and informative, high quality work, faster than expected turnaround, and fair price. Definitely reach out to Greg of youre thinking about a stainless steel refret!
I did my research on forums, etc.... everyone said send it to Aperio... so I did, and boy am I glad I did. Fantastic communication (hi Bette!). Gregs work is fantastic. Turnaround was quick. The guitar is a joy to play again. Cant recommend Greg enough.
I recently took delivery of my second Strat-style Aperio-necked guitar assembled and set up by Greg Hails. With Aperio maple neck and their signature stainless steel frets, I am thrilled with how it looks, feels and sounds.Greg shared some of his vast knowledge of the Strat freely and helped me make the right component choices. He would not let my guitar leave his shop until it was perfectly set up to his exacting standards. All this comes at a very reasonable price-point too. I am delighted with this unique, rock-solid, workhorse instrument that matches or surpasses any Fender Strat I have owned in terms of tone and playability, yet cost less than half the price.I cannot recommend Gregs work strongly enough.
Sent my guitar in and it came back superb. Seriously plays amazing and the craftsmanship is top notch. I highly recommend.
Absolutely the best. Had a stainless steel refret on a 1995 Taylor 810ce and it plays as if it was brand new. Greg also replaced the nut and raised the E and A just a bit. This has helped playing through a new Fishman Loudbox Artist immensely. I almost returned the Fishman because I was disappointed with how the Taylor sounded through it. Now it sounds fantastic, the resonant feedback is gone (don’t ask me how, but it is), and it is much easier to play without the divots in the frets. Completely satisfied and heartily recommended.
Had a full stainless steel refret done on my Superstrat. Finished in less than a month, and the frets were leveled as if done by a Plek. Perfect work, and FAST! Thanks, Aperio!
I had a refret over a year ago now, and it was perfect then and it’s still perfect now! Greg is THE man to talk to about stainless frets, hands down. I even had him measure and attempt to match the feel of one of my other guitars, and that odd request was met with an open mind by Greg and he was able to nail the feel I wanted as well! As a working guitarist in the Nashville area, I can testify to the outrageous prices and wait times in Nashville that Greg talks about on his website. It is not Greg trying to throw a sales pitch, it’s the truth. I’ve had my guitars worked on by Nashville’s “top” luthiers and I can say, unequivocally, that my work done at Aperion was far less expensive, faster, and BETTER! Maybe best of all I didn’t feel like I was being stared at down the nose, as is often the case in Nashville. Can’t say enough good things about the whole experience.
Greg is an perfectionist and an artist. His work is flawless. I went to Aperio to refret one of my guitars and lo&behold I ended up taking most of my guitars for this service! The craftsmanship is fenomenal. Plenty of information available on their webpage describing the whys and hows so Im not going to repeat that. Thank you Greg!
Have been working with Greg at Aperio for a while now and I trust him with everything. He does such a fine job and has excellent personal customer service. Youre able to customize the product to your liking and the end result is guaranteed to be stunning. You wont be sorry!
I had Greg do a stainless steel refret on my maple fretboard Stratocaster. Two luthiers told me they would need to refinish the board for a re-fret, but Greg was able to do it without refinishing! Greg was super informative and transparent by sending pics and detailed assessments throughout the entire re-fretting process. Highly recommended for stainless steel re-frets.
I have nothing but great things to share about my experience with Greg.I live in North Carolina and needed a re-fret done on a relatively rare 1981 Gibson 335-S Deluxe Professional. Those “fretless wonders” just weren’t doing it for me, but I liked the husk of the guitar as a whole. Local luthiers in my area had outrageous prices or just flat-out seemed disinterested in working on my guitar. This guitar had grown to be quite precious to me, and I wanted to get it some help. I found Greg at Aperio via Google, and read all the entries on his informative site. He responded back to my initial inquiry very quickly with an obvious wealth of knowledge. I had no qualms about shipping my guitar to him after we had a brief exchange.Boy, let me tell you something. Greg was completely transparent, sending me photos of the guitar upon arrival and then more photos as he got to work. I knew my beloved guitar was being treated with great care. Greg relayed his findings after receipt of the 335-S, made his remarks, and I told him to go with what he felt was right because he has the experience I lack.He was apologetic (when he didn’t need to be) about his shop’s wait time, and he kept in touch throughout the process just to make me feel comfortable. When he discovered that the wire gauge I requested may not be the best option, he contacted me immediately with his thoughts and I went with his suggestions. He also found fault with a certain switch, and immediately told me how he would handle it.I picked up the guitar today after a full re-fret and setup. It’s perfect. The work is just gorgeous and he took tremendous care in making sure I received it just as I sent it. It’s got a whole new life and will probably outlive me. I am ecstatic with the work and I wouldn’t hesitate for a moment to send him others.A good luthier is hard to find. I’d go out of my way to make sure Greg worked on my guitars. I love modding and tinkering with my instruments, but when I need a pro, I’ll always call Greg. He is the best.
