Wow, this place has almost everything for boating, sailing, and especially fishing! Electronics, parts, docking equipment, life jackets, even seasoned wood for grilling your catch! Helpful staff and good prices, too.

I have been shopping at Marine general since they opened up in Duluth some 40 years ago and our family has spent thousands of dollars in the store. On Feb 24th we stopped in for a dozen crawlers so we could try for walleye before closing. We drove up to Fish L. out of Hi Banks to give it an afternoon. Chiseled open a few holes and opened the crawlers. All were dead and shriveled up, except for 2 sickly specimens. We were heartbroken. Needless to say, we caught nothing. Today, we just left the store with ten dead, shriveled up night crawlers that the clerk wouldnt replace, and my wife, was going to purchase a small toboggan, which she had in her hands, so we could try ice fishing again.....at least for panfish, and instead we walked away because the clerk said theres no warranty on crawlers. I am a seasoned fishing guide in both the US and Canada and know very well how to take care of my live bait. To quote my old friend Al Lindner, whom I have fished with in the very same boat.....as well as Jim Keuten, the original Jims bait, here in Duluth......if pennywise, your pound foolish. The lady clerk, in order to save about $1.50 in their cost, to replace defective crawlers........lost $100 in sales. Not sure if Ill ever recommend The General again to anyone. Sorry Russ.

Marine General is every fishermans dream. Its the Ben Franklin of fishing stores. Just cant find stores that arent big box like this any more. Youll find things in the corners of this store youve never heard of. Everyone there is always in a good mood, and they dont ask questions if you have a problem with anything.

Great find in Duluth after I was searching for rope available by the foot. Helpful employees, quick and knowledgeable service. They have a ton of products and the space is small, so don’t be surprised if shelves are getting restocked or picked for online orders when you are there. Skip the big box store and shop here—so much good stuff with the best brands and staff that can offer real advice and recommendations.

My dad recommended I checked this place out and BOY, OH BOY, I’M GRATEFUL HE DID. I will never go anywhere else after the absolutely amazing experience I had today. I went in with one mission & one mission only: get my boyfriend an otter flip up. Shark, the kind gentleman that helped me, went above and beyond to make this possible (I have little knowledge about ice shelters). He even went as far as measuring the trunk of my Honda CR-V to make sure I was getting the largest option possible (OTTER XT Pro cabin X-over, for those with a similar vehicle & may be curious). He cut me a deal so good even Gander Mountain members would be quaking in their boots. His service was so wonderful that I left wishing I could have tipped him. Also, the woman at the front desk kept me nice company while I waited for things to be sorted in the back. Once I finished paying, Shark & another kind man already had my goods loaded in the trunk, ready to roll. There was no way I was lifting that thing by myself & they offered to do it for me before I could even ask. MARINE GENERAL, YOU ARE SO KIND. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. My boyfriend loves it!!! I’ll recommend this place over any other outdoor sportsman franchise for the rest of my life. They treat their customers with ethics; they actually genuinely care. You can’t get that anywhere else.

Recently moved here from Chicago, not as familiar with spin fishing. Needed a rod, line, and reel. A man named Shark helped us out with another store associate. Wow they really knew their stuff, I had no idea what to look for or any particulars, I felt a little silly! I would trust anyone in this store for advice. Very large selection.

I have always when to marine general.... but never again on 6/14 my son and I went up there to buy two kayaks they told me they would have to order them as they were out I was right at the front desk and watched him Write down which kayaks my name and phone number they would call me in once they came in. I still got the life jackets and paddles that day. I call them today to find out if they have A ETA and they tell me my order dose not exist and all the kayaks that came in were already sold and they will not get more in and the guy on the phone was so RUDE TO ME AND ABOUT IT THEN HUNG UP ON ME.

Had what I needed in stock. Rack and pinion steering, on the boat, went out on the 3rd. On the 4th of July, able to pick it up, fix it, and had the boat back on the water! Very friendly and helpful.

The Staff is very helpful and friendly, they have really good selection. Big lake gear, Bass, Walleye, Musky/Pike and panfish gear. They also have ice fishing stuff and tons of apparel. If youre looking for something just ask and youd be amazed at what they have.
