I was a first time visitor. Really pleasant and helpful experience.I had only planned to go to the driving range. So, I didnt play the course.Golf Shop/Pro Shop :There were two older gentlemen behind the desk. These guys were really nice and super helpful. Made me feel very welcome. Especially being a first time visitor. They even offered to squeeze me in for a round of golf, but I had to decline to due my other plans.The Shop looked very stocked with all your golfing needs. There is a snack bar/ beverage service on the backside of the building, nice touch. 👍The range balls were $8 small bucket, $12 for medium. Dont remember what the large cost. Medium was enough for a good practice session.The range balls are yellow in color and looked brand new.The driving range was a little beat up. The ground was hard when placing your tee in the ground. May be time for aerating the driving range. Ground was compacted pretty hard. Could be why the grass was thin and not taking very well.Not many people on the range especially for a weekend. The range lacked adequate distance markers and no guide as to the distance to one of two flags that were out there. I didnt see a practice bunker area nor a short game practice area. I may be wrong or may have missed it. I will have to ask next time I go.Overall range was okay, needs better markers with distances. I will check out the course next time. Adding some bag stands would be a nice touch.Rated high because of the 2 friendly guys at the golf shop. Really genuine and down to earth guys.See you in the near future. Love this place! Nice course and great putting green and driving range with new balls lately. Very pleasant atmosphere and the staff are always friendly and helpful. Even let me try out a 7 wood on the range even though I didnt have my credit card. Above and beyond and great pricing on labor for re-gripping, like $2.50 or so. Occasionally GREAT discount prices. Also has a nice looking snack bar menu though I havent eaten there yet.

Accessible from anywhere in Durham and reasonable price for golf. The range hours were cut off starting in August. Hallandale should consider some lights for the range and they’d extend their business hours greatly.

Good little public course...100% better condition than when I last played the course. Greens and bunkers were in great condition.

Came here from out of town, called ahead to make sure they had lefty clubs. Got there, paid, got to the 1st tee and noticed these were not lefty clubs. Waited for staff to find a “set” (3 wood, hybrid, 6, 8, 9, and NO PUTTER). Sent out my group and missed the 1st & 2nd hole. Came back after the round and received a $5!!!! discount. Place seems to be poorly managed and doesn’t seem to care about the customer. Have to try and give them the benefit out the doubt with not having lefty clubs ready, but the “discount” was not what I expected.

Good golf course. Decent greens. Decent Fairways. The driving range is probably the best part of this course. Due to its location it is very busy and often have to wait on the party in front of you. If it were priced a little cheaper it would definitely be worth going there more often. Id rather pay less and play courses with less traffic and better greens.

My husband is blind and a group named Bridge 2 Sports meets here. He is learning to play the game!

Wonderful environment to learn and practice golf. Im very fortunate to live so close to this location. The staff and visitors there are all very friendly. I look forward to returning soon.

Course is Good. It has a few challenging par 3’s. Cart paths need some work.

Very forgiving course. Wide fairways, huge greens, and a short course. It was fun to play but it was a little more expensive than some of the nicer courses in the area. I will definitely play it again.

This is the course I played when learning the game and highly recommend it. Ive read a number of reviews where people were disappointed by course conditions at Hillandale and it always irks me. If youre paying between $20-35 in greens fees, you shouldnt expect country club conditions. In my opinion, Hillandale is one of a coupe courses in the entire area competing for the best value.In the past few years the management has done an excellent job caring for and improving the facilities. A number of the cart paths are currently being replaced/repaved. Bermuda greens were installed a few years back, and if you catch them at the right time of year (late spring or early summer) or after freshly mowed, they are slippery and roll true. Also, though there are sporadic spots where the grass struggles, the tee boxes and fairways are consistent and well maintained. The practice facilities and bigger than other comparable courses, with a generously sized driving range, large practice green next to the first tee box, and a separate chipping/pitching pirating space.In addition, one of the best parts of plating at Hillandale is their staff. I have always found them to be amazingly welcoming and very helpful.If you havent played here, especially if you live in Durham, you should.

Three weekends in a row that I’ve been here to golf and the range has been closed. Big sign out front saying “range open” and then they tell you it’s closed because of rain. The need to fix this or offer discounts on golf for the people who continually get here early and can’t even use the range. It’s awful service. The front desk lady is pretty rude too

I just played this course on 9/20 and 9/21 2019. The course is in great shape. The greens are tough to read and they are fast. The course is very challenging, I think I used almost every club in my bag. I shot 79 and 83. I really enjoyed the course and the staff in the clubhouse are awesome. I have nothing but good things to say about playing there and I would play it again when Im in the area.

Let me start by saying great choice in course to play. Presents unique challenges from every tee box. Fairways vary from wife to tight and the creek comes into play on majority of the holes. Pro shop staff is awesome and equipment selection is plentiful. You will have a great time here expect the course to defend our and not give up to many birdies but they are out there for the shotmakers and true putters. Great course

The staff is great course is in great shape greens are at a nice speed and the fairways are the perfect height but I wish the had water hazards and fairway bunkers (sand and waste) . I wish they had a pare. U could drive and a par 3 that was a shorter but 3 out of 4 r almost 200 yards I wish they were all different with more hazards and higher rough around them but all and all 22 to walk during the week is great​ all in all 3 out of four stars because of what I mentioned n or there practice area needs a bit of work n shouldnt use range balls but your own because around the green its all feel with the ball u use every day.

This is a great course for people like me who like to be challenged, but not overwhelmed. Its a very playable course that has enough meat to it to kee you coming back. The staff is also very friendly and helpful.

Muni course so course was full on a Thursday late morning. Decent shape for early in the year. Staff were friendly and the range looked good but did not use.

I play this course more than any other in the triangle. Its convenient, very affordable, and has some good variety. Some of the greens and tee boxes could use some work, but overall worth the value.

Tight course with tight but decent fairways. Greens were installed just a few years ago and are in great condition. Crossing Hillandale Rd four times can be hazardous to your health, especially when Duke Medical Center is changing shifts! Only drawback is sometimes can be slow with a lot of walkers, but all in all an excellent value.

Club fitting with Karl recently resulted in new irons that perfectly match my swing. I really appreciate the time and effort he and his staff devoted making my experience first class! If you need clubs, dont go anywhere before you visit Hillandale .

Have only gotten to hit from the driving range since I just moved to Durham but I love this place. Reminds me of a course back home in Indiana with how nice the staff is. The range is in great shape and from what I can tell from the looks of the course its in great shape as well. Look forward to many many rounds at this golf course!

Very beatifull golf course with incredibly nice staff. I was on vacation visiting my relatives and wanted to just try playing. They borrowed me some clubs and balls and show the necesary basics. Would recommend to anyone!

This is by far and away the worst golf course I have ever played in North Carolina in the five years I have been here. Mickey Mouse greens and non-kept fairways are just the beginning. Hitting off of dirt nearly every shot. The day I was there they had the nerve to say 90° rule on the fairways it had not rained in about a week the ground was so hard you could drive 300 yards no problem. The lady behind the desk was extremely rude, not just to me but to the people that called in that she was on the phone with while we were there. They treat you like this is the best course since sliced bread and give you all these ridiculous rules. I wouldn’t pay five dollars to play this course again.

Fairways needed to be cut, played just after a tournament and not one person before me raked any any bunkers. Of course i did hit there😳. If the fairways had been cut it would have 5 star but you should not be penalized when you hit it down the middle.

Awesome course! Not only is this a great course but they also do this awesome thing called the Hillandale HEARTS club where kids who are going through treatment for various diseases are able to go over and play on the course for free as well as ride on the golf carts for fun! Such an awesome asset to our community!

Forgot how unaccomadating this course is. Height of summer and they stop selling range balls at 715 on a Saturday. Its light til 9 pm and its unbearably hot during the day! Dont go out of your way to serve the local golf community or anything.

Greens are fast. Well maintained golf course. Enjoy walking it.
