The food and service were excellent.I had the frittata as a starter and the salmon as a main - don’t miss this choice at the bottom of the menu. The salmon was cooked to perfection, with a hard fried skin and came with 2 fresh shrimps.The menu offers starter + main for £13.95 (£17.95 if you go for the salmon as a main).The staff were very friendly.I’d recommend booking since the place gets busy with all the hikers stopping by Inverness.
Extended our stay for an extra night just to try this restaurant because of superb reviews and was very much looking forward for our dinner.Welcome was great and this is what you usually expect from places with high score of reviews.All went well until mains arrived, Venison fillet was delicious and cooked to perfection...Rib eye steak very stringy and low quality, served on top of mashed potatoes and covered with flat mushroom and peppercorn sauce, have never ever been served steak this way, ussually all comes separate...sorry but meat felt like a very cheap and thin cut of rump steak, and have never been no where near juicy rib eye.Waitress was not bothered to ask if everything was fine with food when clearing plates by clearly seeing that majority of steak was still sitting on the plate, so I thought I have to give feedback about our mains.Steak was taken off our bill for which I wouldnt even pay, but more important is that manager wasnt even bothered to come to our table and speak to us... Shame... as this review couldve been avoided with proper handling of the problem. Sometimes simply taking dishes of the bill is not going to solve problems.Manager needs to learn problem solving skills but not passing messages through her staff as it shows lack of confidence when it comes to confrontation.Place itself is overrated and I cant recommend it, simply waste of time and money...
It was okay, service was fine apart from slightly pushy around table reservation times (covid played its part here I think) nice aesthetic, good choices of drinks, lunch preset price is a bit much for what you get in terms of quality seafood was incredibly good however, just the steak was a bit tough.
This is a superb comfortable easy restaurant.Great style great staff, nothing is an issue and your never waiting long for the delicious food that they serve..Food is always hot..tasty..and fresh.If you havent eaten here please try it for yourself.My favourite in Inverness..👌👌👌👌👌
Reserve a few days in advance, this is fabulous!The early bird menu is exceptional value for money, the haggis bonbons plus steak, sides and a bananoffee dessert came to less then £27.Wow. What a treat to myself. I felt like a million dollars.Super friendly and professional staff, host Callum & Sophia are a great asset, and a modern Maitre D that got me a last split second table.I was trained as a Chef and a Waiter in the 80s, classical, in Holland. Ive been in the hospitality industry for decades local and global in management roles.Being here tonight gave me the feeling of being at home, my industry is in safe hands lol (emotional!)I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, what e great experience.
Excellent food, wine and service. The Mustard Seed is a real gem.Offering high quality food that you don’t have to wait around for, combined with staff that are friendly and attentive. It makes for a great experience.They offer an early dinner set menu, or you can order a la carte from the menu or wealth of specials.Really worth a visit.
Nice welcome despite not booking in advance. Good table position. Short but excellent lunch menu with other options available if you were dining in the evening. Delicious pearl barley and vegetable broth for starter and equally delicious fish pie for main course. Good wine options. Staff attentive and polite and displayed the skill of knowing when to check on your needs. I highly recommend it if you are in Inverness.
One of the best restaurants Ive been to! Food was exceptional. I had the halibut with chive mash, very tasty, succulent and such a huge portion. Tried the crab tartare which was excellent and had the spiced chickpea and beetroot bruschetta which was delicious. We also had the pan fried salmon for mains which was very delicious and the seafood fricasse. We had a very enjoyable evening here, and the menu changed slightly each week so we will definitely be visiting again to try out new dishes!
The service here is impeccable. I had booked a table for 9pm but I called and requested to come at 6PM, which they agreed to. The food here was nice too. I like that they use fresh and seasonal ingredients, and the menu changes every few weeks. The atmosphere in the restaurant is nice too. Im not giving a 5 star because I liked it, but wasnt wowed. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a nice meal in Inverness.
This is a very good place to enjoy your food. The menu is excellent and the daily special on the evening we visited was a good addition to the regular menu. The service was excellent, as was the food, and the atmosphere was so enjoyable too. Very busy, but the food and service makes it a worthwhile choice if you are OK with paying a bit more for such good food. Well done to the excellent staff in front of house and especially those in the engine room.
A first time visiting and turned up without a booking. Welcomed and seated, had 1.5 hours for an early evening meal. Menu was refreshing and well prepared. Staff very helpful and chatty. They were well versed in the hospitality presentation and as for pricing, well wed all like it cheaper, but on the whole, reasonably priced for that time of day. As I said first visit on an overnight stay in Inverness. Well done.
Absolutely delightful. Had to book a table two weeks in advance, but it was totally worth it. The place is beautiful from the inside, and has some fantastic views.Would like to personally thank Andrew for being our host, the service was absolutely great!And finally about the food itself - it was fantastic. Steak is often a boring choice, but here it comes with mustard sauce (what else, from a place with such a name) and haggis (to remind you that you’re in Scotland). Venison was also cooked to perfection. But the best part was the cheesecake. Honestly, just order one for each. It’s absolutely glorious.

Fantastic experience. The food was absolutely delicious. I had the caesar salmon salad, chilli non carne with homemade nachos and the apple cinnamon crumble for dessert. The crumble was like Christmas on a plate. The seafood pasta was also amazing. Book in advance!!! They sell out really fast. The lunch deal is also awesome - 12.95 for 2 courses. The staff is also really sweet and helpful and they comply to the recommended higiene rules.
A phenomenal restaurant. Fine dining in lovely surroundings, though without any accompanying pretentiousness. The menu is engaging, local and well thought through. The food was sublime. Staff know what they’re talking about, and are able to give you great recommendations. This was a perfect night in Inverness for a passing traveller looking for something special.
First of all the food was magnificent, some of the best I have tasted outside of the usual michelin starred city haunts and the service from the waitresses werre brilliant, professional and friendly but theres always a but .... This would have been 5 stars except for the young waiter who i must assume was on his first night and really didnt have a clue, Everybody else was exceptional and we could see they were covering for the lad . We were placed in the corner away from the main room and it took 10 to 15mins for him to ask us for drinks and then when he came back he had organised a bottle of wine for the gf instead of a large glass, we got bread delivered to the table but no butter, when i asked for butter i got a grunt and when he handed over a few packs we didnt get an aplology. The older waitress took our order so we assumed this would be ok but he then managed to deliver our food to the table behind us who had just finished their starters, ordinarily I wouldnt mind as mistakes are made but this is the era of Covid and he had plonked our plates down in front of a couple of strangers, then he took our empty glasses away without asking if we wanted some more and so on ....This was a shame as we had high hopes for the Mustard Seed as a lot of our friends have raved about it but seriously they need to train their new staff better to maintain their high standardsbtw the food was calamari for starters followed by the steak ..exceptional

I mean there’s a reason why this place has so many amazing reviews and it did not disappoint! The staff were second to none, serving was insanely quick and the food that got brought out was some of the best food we’ve ever tasted and I promise that’s not an exaggeration. Definitely go but definitely book ahead!!
While it took three attempts to get a dinner table here, after the first bite it was absolutely crisp and clear why. Perfection. The entire experience is a showcase of how a top restaurant is supposed to feel and to be run like. Service was fast, friendly, and always one step ahead. The menu feels like a very precise selection of classics with unique takes (if you like to cook, you will be making notes for trying some of it at home) and truly offers something for everyone. Portions are large, you won’t go home hungry. And it’s not just the food! From interior to lighting, from table arrangement to the level and choice of the music, everything fits together perfectly. Your biggest problem will be making the impossible decision to go for a starter or a dessert (unless you can manage both), because you will miss something amazing if you skip either one. I’d definitely plan in a stop in Inverness just for this if you’re anywhere in Scotland. Make that reservation well in advance (weeks), you won’t regret doing so. Everything about this restaurant is great - location, atmosphere, staff, food......Our waitress for the night ( I think her name is Donna, forgive me if I am wrong) was superb and Sofia is always great (all her tables were full). Both are very friendly, helpful and professional.
Visited here recently to celebrate a birthday and had a wonderful experience. The food was absolutely excellent and the service was swift. The price was also very good considering the high quality of the food served. I would recommend this to anyone visiting Inverness but would suggest you book ahead so as not to be disappointed!
I’ve been to a lot of restaurants over the years, love good food, and used to be a professional cook. I give 5 stars for outstanding, 4 for very good, 3 for good, 2 for average, 1 for poor. The food was average, the venison we were told would be pink, I said to Carlo(s) our waiter, the rarer the better. It was over cooked. The cheese course was plentiful but straight from the fridge, so way too cold. Overall the food was ok, wine good, and I would rate the place 2 stars, the reason it got 3 stars is that Carlo(s) our S. African waiter was outstanding, so he alone has raised the review by a star.
Food was excellent and the staff were very friendly. Their customer service was brilliant making every effort to make the meal something to remember. The customers happiness was put before profit.
A lovely restaurant but a little disappointing. Went for my birthday meal and I had really high expectations. Unfortunately the steak I ordered was overcooked and the mash a little dry like it had been left out. The staff were efficient and friendly enough, but never asked how the food was and it lacked a personal touch. Overall it was fine, but for £30 I expect a fillet steak to be cooked to perfection.
Definitely need a reservation, very busy restaurant. Good food and service. Pleasant staff. The starter, deconstructed taco is very tasty. Nice wines from different countries.

Lovely lunch deal at 14quid for two courses. The crispy chicken goujon starter was served with a refreshing corn and tomato salsa while the seabass main had a wonderfully crisped skin paired with a tasty polenta cake. Design and ambience of the restaurant is amazing, upscale but yet relaxing at the same time. Very popular and I will recommend to reserve in advance. Very good value for money if you go for the lunch or early evening meal deal.

Not bad. But not great either.The venison was very good. It was not cooked medium rare as requested, but still had a lovely flavor.The figs were disastrous - unripe, flavorless figs, wrapped in overpowering ham. Inside was a giant block of cheese, that was still quite cold in the middle.Pakoras were very average, nothing fancy, as were the tortellini. Although they were clearly handmade, they did not delight.The music was very fast and loud, which didnt encourage a slow appreciation of the food, and the forward sloping chairs were uncomfortable to lean back in.All in all, theres promise in this restaurant, but I didnt find it as great as other reviewers did.
Wow, this was excellent. Thrashes the so called fancy Café One down the road. Staff were polite and attentive, decor is fantastic and...... the food was incredible. Had a great lunch for two, was filled up and pleasantly overwhelmed with the flavours. Smacks the mouth with flavours that youll think about after the meal. Great location on the riverside with lovely views. A fire burning away adding to the ambiance. Will definitely go here again, should have gone here for our 10th wedding anniversary meal instead of Café One. Theyre managing the covid situation really well. To top it off, I tried to give a 20% tip and they reduced it!! This is a must visit.
First visit by recommendation. Loved it. Great lunchtime set menu & not a steak pie in sight, not that theres anything wrong with steak pie but nice to have somthing a bit different. £13.95 for two courses& food was superb. Staff really friendly too. Great incentive card too offering treats every visit. If im back up in Inverness I will definately visit 👍😁

One thing about this restaurant is...they are really passionate about their jobs!!I saw the bartender love his job, waiters served really well, the manager treat us in a well manner.The spot is great by the river, easy to reach.And how about the food?The food is really great! I love the mussels (come in big portion) and the beef was juicy and big.Price is quite expensive but you deserve to try this restaurant.

The food was great and up to expectations. The price was reasonable.The service was phenomenal. Everyone was so polite and kind. The place was very welcoming and family oriented.Would love to come back again one day.
Really good quality, fresh, imaginatively cooked and presented food served over looking the River Ness. We enjoyed the pre-theatre menu..specially good value. Under £60 for 2 with a drink each and pudding too. Very popular so book ahead.

We were very excited to visit this place as it was well reviewed and had a wonderful menu. Service however was very slow . Our wine nor water arrived til after mains. The venison was acceptable but underseasoned. The jus was my favorite part.

Had high hopes for this place but felt really let down. Our table was directly next to a dirty radiator that was full of dust and obviously hadnt been cleaned in ages. The food was just totally average in our opinion. We ordered off the set menu and the dishes were basic. Best thing we ordered turned out to be the side of fries. Glad we didnt pay more for the full menu. None of the food was terrible, just very much underwhelming and nowhere close to the standard we were expecting bases on other reviews, unfortunately.
Overrated restaurant, 2 stars cafeteria max.Ordered Rib eye ~£28, got rump stake, overcooked even i ordered medium.70% of meat stringy.After polite complain steak was removed from a bill... wow thanks alot @10pm on monday when I have no option to have a proper meal in town.Mananger didnt even came to table to apologise, delivered a massage through waitress for taking the dish off the bill, absolute disrespect to a paying guest who chose to spend their money at their restaurant.By my opinion this is tourist rip off cafeteria and only our waitress seemed to be more caring about this than her manager.

Lovely restaurant!! The staff were super nice, the food was delicious and the service was great: the starters came immediately to quench our hunger, but they left a nice gap between collecting the starters and bringing the mains to allow for a proper digestion! Absolutely divine meal in the Mustard Seed Restaurant in Inverness Scotland. Best Salmon of the trip. Vegetarian friendly. Cozy feel is enhanced by hand written chalk board menu being walked from table to table, warm colors, and attentive wait staff. They are very strict about opening at exactly 5:30 for dinner service. Dont ask to get in 1 minute earlier than that. LOL! We sat outside on a park bench and froze but well worth the wait. Reservations recommended.

One of the best places to eat we found since our trip from Edinburgh. Highly recommended by almost all of the guides, it was a sure win! Plenty of people until very late. Nice views from the top floor of the river and the other side of the river. Cocktails very nice. Nice food. I don’t recommend scallops:it’s hard to find on your plate! Ridiculously small. Very nice venison. Rally good desserts. Staff was ok: some more than other. A spanish girl was absolutely kind. Sure success in Inverness
