Took a family bike trip through MSU (2 adults and 2 children ages 8 and 4.) Used their bike trailer for our 4 year old to ride and my 8 year old had a mountain bike perfect for his size. He was also able to use a helmet they had. The employees were fantastic and so friendly to our kids. We rode around for at least 10 miles through MSU - such a great area to ride bikes. 10/10 will be back to rent bikes again on our next trip to MI/Lansing area.

They currently have the fastest turnaround in town, and are reasonably priced relative to other shops in the area. However, my experience with them has been that the work they do leaves something to be desired. They replaced a bike wheel during a tune-up, and did not add rim tape. Great! Now I have a flat that I need to fix. I left another bike with them, and the brakes are rubbing against the discs. Im not planning on bringing my bikes in again.

I have an electric scooter with one hard to reach valve stem. Was having trouble pumping up that one tire, and had an employee help me. After trying with no results, he used pliers to try and pull out the valve stem so that the attachment on the air hose would fit. Completely stripped the threads on my $400 scooter. Just got valve stem extenders, and none of them thread onto the valve stem itself. Sometimes I can maybe get it to go one revolution. Thanks to one of your employees, my tire refill just got a whole lot more complicated! Seriously, I have no idea what the goal was when he pulled on the stem with pliers after the third try to get it to come out farther. Had absolutely no regard for me or my scooter. Thanks a ton!!!!!! Not!!!!! Should’ve never taken my scooter here

The staff at MSU Bikes was incredibly personable and accommodating. They were knowledgeable and provided a really positive experience, patiently answering all of my questions. We drove two hours to reach them initially because they had what we wanted in stock, but would recommend them to anyone else after our great experience. They went above and beyond to assist us and we appreciate it!

After exhaustive searches locally and online, I was sure I would never find a bike available to purchase. I stumbled upon the MSU Bike shop, very nearby.Eric and all the workers at the MSU Bike shop were helpful from the get go. I found the exact kind of bike I was searching for, a quality pre-owned bike at a reasonable price. Upon the pick up, the sales person was amazingly patient and spent time explaining and making helpful suggestions as i rode away on my new bike.

I just got ripped off.I paid $80 two weeks ago for new tubeless road tire installation on a new set of wheels. Both tires went completely flat after two short rides on the bike. Took it back yesterday thinking that they wouldnt have a problem guaranteeing their work from the initial installation. Today when I picked up the tires, I was told I was being charged a discounted rate of $30 for them to fix their faulty initial installation. I have no intention of going back. Since the tires werent installed correctly the first time -- they placed additional sealant when I took it back -- I shouldnt have been charged this time around.

Amazing service, seriously. These people are friendly, fast, and knowledgeable. Dont pass up an opportunity to visit this gem in East Lansing. Nestled on MSUs campus, this shop sells and services bikes of all sorts. They went out of their way for us more than once, and their prices were completely fair.

I decided to take my bike here since I had bought the bike from them a few years previously. I needed a new rear derailleur, hanger, and chain. I got the bike back, rode the bike 1.5 miles and the hanger completely snapped. They refuse to warranty the part or do anything other than make me pay to replace it again, after 1.5 miles of use! I was not jumping the bike or doing anything other than riding it normally. I have never received such terrible service from a bike shop.

Stopped in for a bike for my son. Anthony was super helpful, friendly, easily related and talked with my son, and helped us find the perfect bike. Spent time and answered lots of questions, offered us lots of advice, etc. We also dropped off another bike for repairs, and we’ll be heading back soon for another bike for our family. You won’t find service like this just anywhere. If you’re in the market for a bike or bike services, give MSU Bikes a call!

MSU Bikes runs a great shop! Ive had good experiences here each time with mechanical work/tune ups and purchases/installations. The staff are helpful and thorough, and clearly take pride in their work. As a regular 8-5er, it is absolutely worth finding a way to make it work to bring my bike in. It is worth dealing with the limited parking on campus to go here, too. The Monday evening late closing (6pm) helps with dropping a bike off and hopefully getting it ready by the weekend, or for picking it up to start off the week on a good night. I suggest persons who are limited on time driving with their bikes go straight to the lot across from the international center as it takes a minute to hike or walk a bike there.

Im a cross-country bicyclist, so I know my bicycles well. I purchased a used bike from these guys, and theyre the real deal.I told them exactly what I wanted (a bike for a 14 year old we all know is going to keep growing), and they followed through. They didnt try to sell me something that was too much bike (meaning overpriced or more than a 14 year old kid would need), and they said if I needed anything to let them know.Great customer service. EXCELLENTLY maintained used bikes. Easy to find.I will definitely be back!

MSU bikes was able to service two BOB jogging strollers for me in under an hour! They had warned me turn over time could change depending on traffic through the store, but they were incredibly efficient. Everyone was incredibly nice to my 1 yo daughter that I brought with me, even helping me to keep her entertained with bike bells. Great experience. I will not only use them again but I would def recommend them to friends and family!!

I recently realized I could not handle bringing our familys fleet of bikes into top condition. After an internet search, I learned of the MSU Bike Shop on May 26, 2020 - the day it first re-opened after the COVID-19 pandemic struck Michigan. Tim answered my call that day and confirmed the MSU Bike Shops safety and other procedures for bicycle repair service. After I arrived, Anthony handled the evaluation and estimates on two of our bikes, provided me updates via text message, and had them fixed up and ready to ride in 24 hours. I dropped a third one off when I picked up the first two, this time assisted by Aubrey, and received another quick, 1-day turnaround with prompt and helpful communication by text. Tim, Anthony, and Aubrey all did a great job answering my questions and setting appropriate expectations - which were all exceeded. I also learned the MSU Bike Shop has new and pre-owned bicycles for sale (as well as the MSU Surplus Store as a source for more bikes) and accepts donated bikes to get them back on the road. The MSU Bike Shops sales and service offerings are a good fit for a family whose children are constantly in the process of outgrowing their bikes - without busting the family budget! We got strong value for investing in our bike repairs at MSU Bike Shop, both with excellent service and reasonable rates. I am telling all my friends about my great experience and sending them to the MSU Bike Shop.Sean GallagherBath Township, Michigan

Excellent. Received a quote beforehand that was generally accurate (about $8 off). My bike needed a good amount of adjusting and it rides great now! They also worked quickly (given they were all caught up on work) and I picked up my bike next day. Worth it on a college campus. (Local store was around $70.)

Their customer service is iffy and this was the second year that Ive unsatisfactorily used them for storing my bike over the summer. Both times, Ive arranged to pick up my bike on a specific date and gave them more than a week of notice, as they advise to do. Yet, Ive had issues actually being able to pick up my bike on the proper date due to an error or forgetting to head to the warehouse. Last year, I was unable to pick my bike up until 2 business days AFTER initially arranged, even though I took all the proper steps to pick it up on a particular day. It almost happened again this year until they went to get my bike last minute, 45 minutes before closing, after I called to confirm that my bike would still be available to pick up. The only reason I called to confirm that my bike would be available to pick up, even though we had already arranged 2 weeks earlier to pick my bike up on that particular day, was because they had already built a lack of trust in me from last year. Luckily, I happened to be in the area. Otherwise, the same thing as last year wouldve happened. I will not be using the MSU Bike Shop again. Theyre very unprofessional. The only benefit of using them is the convenient on-campus location.

I’m not even sure where to start because I just felt so taken advantage of. I brought my bike in to have the brakes repaired. I agreed to pay for the $65 tune up and 1 replacement part ($5) to fix my brake issue. I was later told my cost would be $93 when I expected it to be $70. Come to find out they replaced $23 worth of additional parts without my permission. They told me afterwards “we assumed when you asked for a basic tune up that you wanted us to replace anything we saw that needed to he replaced” this is a very unfair assumption to make on a college student who is on a college budget. Moral of the story, I will not be returning here for future bike issues.

If I could give 10 stars I would . I stopped in at the end of the day today to drop my daughters bike off so they could repair it tomorrow. They said they could fix the bike while I wait. They changed 3 tubes and tires, tightened up crank, and lubed the chain . The bill was less than quoted and I was out the door in about 30 minutes. Outstanding employees and customer service. MSU Bike Service Center has earned my business .

Buyer beware - do not purchase unless you’ve ridden the bike extensively - not a short ride either on the offered test ride - (ride all over campus as much as possible), made sure the bike is the right size / ride for you, and made sure that you are 100% happy with bike - their policies aren’t clear. 30 days / 100 miles does not mean returns are accepted. Will not be returning to this bike shop for anything. Spend your money somewhere else with a return policy.Edit: I really tried to keep the emotions of this unfortunate situation out of my review and only give a potential buyer extra information before buying a bike at this establishment. Ride more, be sure, don’t spend the money if you’re not 100%. No mention of the uncomfortable arguing to get a refund (of which there is nothing said about no refunds, in store or on the receipt), how you now made a bike rental fee and then sell the bike again for the same price. Your continued edits to make your position look better only emboldens me to give your bike shop what it deserves - free negative marketing. If I could give you zero stars - I would.

Told me fixing the bike was going to be $15 dollars, which was acceptable. When he looked it up, he told me it was actually $20, which was still fine. After he fixed the bike, the problem wasnt what he though it was, so the price was lowered to $5. Pretty honest people. Also, they let me use a lot of their bike grease for free. So theres that.

Terrible customer service. Someone who has been working there for years has made me not want to come here. Every time I walk in the door he is cranky and does not seem like he wants to help anyone. He is rude, threw my bike around in the back repair room, and genuinely a bad MSU representative. Also had my bike serviced and a simple tire inner tube change in the front. My wheel was not secure and fell off while going 20mph+. I flipped over my bars and was close to having to go to ER.MSU campus locations are suppose to show D.O.S.E. (Deliver outstanding spartan experience) and this shop does not do this. I have worked with a few younger individuals who show compassion and emotion but the older crew is awful. After my repair today I will never be coming back and you should consider something on Grand River instead.

Never had a worse experience at a bike shop. Got a flat and brought my bike in to get it fixed because I didnt have a spare tube or tools. When I got it back, I got another flat within the day. My dad, who is a mountain bike coach, helped me figure out what was wrong. He pulled the tube out and just started laughing. Turns out the idiot who fixed my flat put a tube in that was too big. The tube was folded over at least 6 inches and crammed in. I filmed the whole thing to prove they messed up, and was completely shut down when I went back in to complain. I would have preferred them telling me they didnt have the right size tube and I would have taken it somewhere else to get fixed. Very unprofessional to do such a poor job and not own up to it or give me a refund for their mistake.
