The staff was really friendly and eager to help but the store suffers from what so many comic and games stores suffer from which is a teensy section of board games. Was able to peruse the games section in 2 minutes and the rest of the store was dedicated mostly to magic cards. Totally fine if thats what youre going for but when the store is called Fortress Comics and Games I would hope to see more games.

Great place to play dungeons and dragons! Very friendly even for newbies. They also sell dice, board games and tons of other stuff. They have a rewards program too. Prices are retail, but to support local economy and to have a great place like this here is well worth an extra dollar here or there.

This is a very fantastic and welcoming card shop. It is also very, very college student oriented, which should be expected. I was very impressed with the employees ability to help me locate and track down obscure commons for my crappy UB pauper faerie deck. I mean it might be Tier 3 at best.

Fortress has very competitive prices on their Magic the Gathering cards. The staff is helpful and their selection of single cards is the largest in the area. The gaming area is very spacious and comfortable. I am always sure to check here before ordering cards online, 95% of the time they have exactly what I need in stock.

Ive been coming to this game store for three years now, ever since I moved to the area for college. The owner is very funny and extremely knowledgeable about the products in his store. They are willing to order games not in stock and have a wide selection of games available to play test in the store before purchase. I have never been to a game store that was this welcoming, Fortress regulars can expect to be treated like extended family.To the person who said that large events run late, it is true that start times can be pushed back now and then, but this is almost always because there are people still en route to the store and the game is being held back to give a better play experience for everyone by getting more players. This is never for very long.Cleanliness is on part with other stores in the area. The shop owner allows customers to bring in outside food and drink, so expect it to feel somewhat like a dorm common room with people hanging around with snacks and backpacks and miniatures.I strongly recommend others come check this store out. They cater to a large audience and have everything from board games to minis to comic books and even have resources for tabletop and larp players.

The shop feels like its in a constant state of chaos. The selection isnt bad at all, but this is cold comfort when compared to what seems to be a lack of interest in regards to the staff about their own merchandise. I prefer the idea that Im doing business with a person with a grasp of what theyre selling me instead of feeling like Im having my wallet emptied by an opportunist.

An honest review of the store would be that it has a large community of players for a wide variety of games, and a great place to meet new people interested in what you may be. It is also the only place in East Lansing with table-space to play tabletop wargames with ease.However, the general atmosphere the staff have is quite negative and rude, and the cleanliness of the store is far from par. There is also a strong smell of mildew from water damage in the play area below the store front.All in all, its a decent place to go, but you have to be willing to endure the negativity that is given most of the time.

Very unsocial and unhelpful employees, dirty and cluttered store. However, large selection and very competitive pricing. Liked that they marked prices on items. Was nice too just look down and see the price...especially when looking at MTG card singles.

Specializing only in Warhammer and MtG. Store had Little of any stock or interest in anything outside that. We came looking to demo some euros or something. Nice owner though.

Its super cool to schedule tournaments and then not bothering to open the store. Announcing such things would put a real damper on the fun of wasting peoples time.

Horrible experience!!! Guy with big beard nose ring and glasses was extremely rude. I interrupted him playing a game on his phone and watching Netflix on his computer and he didnt stop playing the game until well after I was firing questions at him he did not seem to want to answer. After he reluctantly put his video game down to actually barely listen to my questions he kept cutting me off and being very short and rude with his answers. Awful service!!! I would not go here for anything comic book related and for anything else in the future for that matter. Dont waste your time coming here, there are two other comic book stores that are great one off of Grand River and the other one and Washington Square in Lansing.

Ive never had a good experience at this store. The customer service from the staff is nonexistent, and the people who frequent the store are elitists and make the place very uninviting.

Horrible customer service and abysmal event organizing. Owner has no idea about proper etiquette around customers and frequently complains about how expensive running the shop is. Many of my woman friends have told me that this shop felt like a very unwelcoming environment for them.They consistently start large events an hour after the posted time. I played here once at a prerelease and in addition to waiting an hour and a half for the event to start, each round took an additional 20 minutes after all players were done. At the end of these absurdly long events you often have to wait an additional hour to receive your prizes and they do these lottery drawings for store members before handing out prizes so you cant just take your packs and go home.
