Ive only dealt with Tom and he is really cool and everybody else I talk to you there is cool and they do great work
Im Richie owner of J&R AUTO .. JMS racing engines you cant find a better engine builder a better shop a cleaner shop the gentleman or professionals and what they do and if you need an engine built heads done quarter mile engine balanced this is the place to go JMS racing engines is number one in my book and they always will be thank you Tom for everything you do
Owner gave us a tour showed us around and was super friendly. Definitely reccomending this place to my friends for their classics.
I was referred to JMS by a friend who had 2 performance boat engines rebuilt by them. Its been 4 months and 6k miles on my rebuilt motor and I couldnt be happier!!It was also cool to see the v12 Lamborghini they were working on and all the cool classics that were getting motorwork done there too!!After my oil pump gave on my tired, misfiring 4.7l in my 2002 dodge ram 1500 4x4, I decided it was time for a rebuild rather than just replacing the pump. Also, I had been chasing down a subtle misfire for a few years and couldnt pin the issue. The motor had always felt underpowered to me, so naturally I considered a hemi swap before deciding to rebuild it. But after reading about all the horrible experiences and failed attempts of hemi swaps, I decided a mild performance rebuild would be better, especially since I was pulling it out and reinstalling it myself.Even though the 4.7 is usually a throw away motor that has very little aftermarket support, the owner Mike was able to build my motor to what feels like near hemi power to me!After explaining to Mike that more torque was the goal, we discussed, with his suggestions, what performance upgrades would go in this motor. We went with domed pistons, mild port and Polish of the heads, and a slight cam grind. Additionally I purchased on my own, Gibson shorty exhaust headers and a cold air intake as well as a high flow exhaust setup. When they tore the motor down they found a spun rod bearing, a slightly blown head gasket, and a hairline crack hidden in the head with the blown gasket. I doubt many other shops would have found that little crack! It only took them about 2 1/2 weeks to get it all done. With the cam grind, head port/Polish, domed pistons, new head to replace the cracked one, new oil pump, heacy duty head gaskets, and new timing chain, the rebuild came out to $3,975 all said and done, which was only a few hundred more than a stock crate 4.7 without shipping. I still think that was a GREAT PRICE!Also, I had the pcm tuned by BG Performance to handle the upgrades and new timing. My motor is SO STRONG now!!! Its nothing like the whimpy little motor it used to be. Its super smooth and runs and sounds AMAZING!! We didnt dyno it, but all together Id guess it jumped from 235hp to about 320hp and from 265lb-ft to about 340lb-ft.I loved dealing with Mike and he REALLY knows his stuff when it comes to motors. He was always friendly and helpful and accommodating to my requests, such as giving me the valve covers to paint after they removed them.Im so glad I went with JMS and I guarantee I will use them for any future builds or rebuilds I might do on some of my other projects. Even if I moved out of state I would still bring my motors to Mike at JMS. I cant say thanks enough for how great of a job was done with my motor. I love my truck and plan on keeping my truck til I die and the guys at JMS are true car guys who treated my motor as their own and built it right. Thanks Mike!
I left a valuable engine with Mike, as he said he might be able to sell it. Without my permission he harvested (stole) parts from my engine to install on another client’s engine. He told me he knew he shouldn’t have, but he “borrowed”Those parts and planned to get them back. He made several promises to return them over several weeks, and then got angry with me when i insisted he return my parts by a certain date. We have reported him to the better business bureau and also the bureau of automobile repair. He finally returned the parts and we had to pay a mechanic almost $2000 to reinstall them. Do not do business with them unless you are prepared for an expensive rip off. It has been over a month since the Better Business Report was filed, and we just got word that they (BBB) have had no response from JMS.
I went to this place as it was recommended by a friend when I was looking for somewhere to do a valve job on a Honda head. In addition to racing engines, they are a general automotive machine shop. I have returned for other automotive machining needs since. They do good work, and I would highly recommend them.
I took my 1971 Chrysler 440 engine to JMS to be rebuilt because it had a rod knock from the previous owner never changing the oil. The guys at JMS are just the best, and they did everything I asked them to do and then some. My crankshaft was toast and they had a good one in stock that they used in my engine that was still within specs after machining. I asked them to rebuild the engine to stock specs and had them choose a cam that would be very much like original, and it turned out excellent. Smooth idle, yet very good torque too. I love driving the car now. They even did the break in run at their shop on an engine test stand at my request, and let me hear the engine run before I paid for it and picked it up. I was also surprised at their attention to detail and their desire to please. I do not know how they could have been any better.
The place is a joke, good place to go if you want your motor ruined!!! Run away!!! Laughing stock at all the local speed shops.
I called for a quote on a rebuild. I told him when he was done I would pull off a few journals to make sure it was done to spec. The guy on the phone had a problem with that. He hung up on me. I just had a rotary engine rebuilt, the guys that did it videotaped the whole building process. They had no problem obviously. If I were doing a race engine Id have Sam Maloof build it for me, in that case you would be welcome to come in and watch the process. Why not these guys?I gave them a neutral rating as I would not do business with them. If I did spend a few $K with them Id review but they lost my business before we got started.
Would leave 0 stars if possible, had these guys rebuild a 455 oldsmobile for my jet boat in the past. A week into the build I was advised by them to get a 10 quart marine oil pan or they would not be able to warranty the motor- ok done, dropped off the oil pan. When I picked up the finished engine my first red flag was they got overspray all over the gold finish on my brand new $600 milden oil pan with cheap engine paint. Installed the motor, sounded good on the trailer. Put it in the water for break in & the engine immediately bent 2 pushrods. Replaced the pushrods, continued break in & immediately developed a rod knock in less than an hour. Removed the motor, returned it to them- they came back with someone over tightened the hardware on the oil pump & it wasnt us- causing an oiling issue to the crank even though they were the only people to touch it. End result was they tried to charge for machining the crank & replacing the bearings a second time & stated they offer no warranties on boat motors. Avoid this shop like the plague!!!

Best engine re builder PERIOD. Extremely knowledgeable on all makes and models, foreign and domestic. Super clean facility and friendly people. Customer comes first.
The above reviews are fake. I have missed 2 years of boating. Jms is only for building new they are not rebuilders.I need to add I have just started my boat and Mike Johnson told me that he put in a high-volume oil pump, but he was to stupid to realize that does not work with a 5 quart pan, I am in the Catalina channel being towed home because of the idiots (Jeff) working on assembly. this is now the third year of boating missed because of shoddy rebuilds, parts missing, oil lines reversed, lesser parts installed. Days wasted.....
Best machine shop in the area Mike Jeff and the crew are
