In Response to the owners reply: The Craft Barn is a waste of space on its best day. They dont get it and they never will. Try Shirleyson route One or online. This place is dying back in the Jurassic era! Good riddance! Why the Ellsworth Craft Barn will be closing soon.....I have lived in the Ellsworth Maine area for over 35 years and yet I rarely stop there despite being an avid crafter and artist. Yesterday I realized why. The Craft Barn is an outdated, antiquated waste of space in an area full of creative folks in need of supplies. The help has always been rude and too busy to wait on customers. For some reason they have always been a step behind their prospective customers. I admit I shop a lot on line, but I still want to support local businesses. Yesterday I stopped in to see if they had supplies for making those pretty beaded macramé bracelets that are all over Pinterest. Of course not. Stepping in the door was like stepping back in to the 80s.....tacky plastic crafting junk that hasnt been popular in decades and half empty shelves. The staff was huddled around a computer screen (ironic) and too busy to venture out and ask if I needed help. I wasnt surprised to find a ridiculous lack of supplies but did find a tube of glue I needed for thread ends. No India leather, C-lon, decent beads or a thread burner, but at least they had some glue! I went to pay and of course they wouldnt take a card for a purchase under $5! Hello! Its 2015! Yes we know you have to pay a fee to the credit card company. Everyone knows that. And yet the local businesses that survive in the online world have realized they have to figure out how to make it work. I shrugged thats ok, Ill just get it on line and turned to leave. OK, that was a little rude, but I was pretty annoyed by this time. Well you would think I had thrown scalding water in their faces! The older woman with dirty blond scraggly hair must have been the owner. Surely she could not get away with being rude and ABUSIVE if she werent! She followed me out as I left YELLING about the fee they have to pay, and a slam at people who shop on line. Well first of all, why would anyone be loyal to a store with staff that treats its customers this way! Not to mention they never have what we need! Its time for you to close. Empty shelves with 80s leftovers. Ridiculously rude help. The good news is, theres a huge need in the area for a REAL craft store that understands what the local people need and what real customer serviceis The bad news is, its not you guys.
