Best Biscuits and Gravy Ive had in years! Not kidding. I grew up in NorCal with real Cowboys and real home-fixns and always search for that experience. I believe I have found it and cant wait to go back and have their Chicken Fried Steak!
Been coming to this little gem for over 30 years ... when it was an even more of a hole-in-the-wall and the motto was Eat it and Beat it. I have moved inland a bit but ALWAYS come here when I want a fantastic breakfast. The staff has been here for the entire 30 years that I have been coming ... well, most of them ... and they are amazing. If there is a wait to sit at the bar, I highly suggest doing that, you will not be disappointed.
Seriously so delicious! Fresh squeezed orange juice, huge menu with unique versions of popular breakfast options. Lots of egg and omelette options along with daily fresh specials. Price is about what youd expect for the area but quality and portion size is worth it.I had banana nut peanut butter chocolate stuffed french toast.
Best breakfast we had our whole trip. The cinnamon roll pancakes are to die for and everything is so reasonably priced. Thank you!
Awesome food awesome atmosphere. Little gem. Its small inside, but packs a huge punch! Expect a little bit of a wait time on the weekends for breakfast but the wait is well worth it! They have a few tables outside and our party enjoyed having our breakfast outside in sunny California. The food was GREAT! The 3 of us all decided to get something different and we all sampled each others. Everything was delicious. The fresh fruit bowl over sorbet with fresh granola was amazing.. the biscuits and gravy were amazing.. the corned beef hash, the eggs Benedict.. all amazing. Trust me when I say you wont be disappointed after visiting the 101 diner. Its also located on a nice strip with a bunch of cute little shops where you can do some shopping after you eat. Enjoy!
My only regret is that I can’t leave a half star. I tried calling this restaurant for more than a week. I live out of the area and my family will all be there this week and I wanted to know if they could accommodate our party of 12. My God, you would think these people are running the state the way they could not be bothered! I was constantly told the managers were unavailable and I had to call back the next day and I would call back and leave my number and after six times fo trying - NO ONE called me back. I just cannot believe none of these people were so incredibly busy for 10 days, they were all too self-important to return a phone call. May be they have so much business they can afford to treat people badly.I guess I should not be surprised since I saw the response by the owner to the last person who left a negative review because of the horrid way their party was treated accusing the reviewer of trying to score a fee meal. This, I fully expect I will receive the same rude response.
What a wonderful hole in the wall diner in Old Encinitas! The staff is nice and the food was beyond amazing! Never had a better omelet before! They also have fun art all over the walls! Our children loved the food here as well. They also have a great selection of hot sauces that you dont see a lot. Also, after you eat you can walk down to the beach!

Small little place off of 101 highway in Encinitas. Fast service and good grub. Would recommend for those who enjoy hearty foods but on a more regular portion size scale. Youll leave full but not button poppin stuffed. Fan of the tri-tip Benedict!

My coworker an I went for lunch today at 11:40 AM, (only two tables occupied out side) when I asked to the server Katie if we can seat at any table she said, sure in a unpolite manner, then she trough the menus at the table with out any welcoming manners I ordered a coffee and shebring me the coffee in a used dirty cup ( pictures attached) when I asked her why my cup has a stained ring inside she said Do you want me to change the cup or you dont want anything But not only my coffee cup, also was a bad chipped and dirty plastic cup for my coworker water as well (see pictures attached), Then when she passed by our table and keep walking by, I mentioned to her we are ready to order, she turn back an pointing at other table and she yelled at me They where here first with no courtesy. We observed how she talked to other costumersusing words like honey sweetheart or simple attentive way. I was there with all my family last month and we were please with the plate taste and service, but today I was really bad, we received a different and unhealthy service (COVID-19 risk) we feel mistreated, my coo worked mentioned that we should leave, but we did not have any more time to go other place and returnto work on time. We stay there and finished a well prepared dish, how ever we are not going back to this place, We look for the owners or managers name and there no other person but her.
Awesome comfort food and wonderful and nice staff. Went for breakfast and had the eggs benedict with their potatoes so good. Will definitely be back had a really nice Mother’s Day meal.
The California omlett is the bomb! So tasty! If you havent tried this place, youre missing out!

I cant believe this place didnt come up in any of our searches. The menu is huge, and it wont break the bank! Ill have to come back just to try more things, they all look too good to pass up. So glad we stumbled upon this place.We chose banana Nutella crepes that were perfectly springy and soft.As well as eggs Benedict on corned beef hash. Great tangy sauce, soft egg, and a crunchy hash👌

Sure awesome place, I have been going there for the last 6 years. I drive from forgotten San Diego to encinitas on Sundays just for their breakfast. Such a chill and can kind of place. The best part is the food, I honestly love third cooking their. Its tasty and healthy at the same time. I highly recommend you check it out. JM

A very small hole in the wall, classic diner. Sit at the counter and watch the cook. I had the veggie hash with a side of bacon. The food is great, the service is excellent. The coffee is very good. This place fits in to the Encinitas vibe; not fancy or frilly. Stop in for breakfast, pick up lunch at Raul’s and hit the beach!

A wonderful breakfast enjoyed outside on their makeshift patio. The service was top notch. We shared a savory (the veggie omelette) and a sweet (the blueberry pancakes) and I would come back again and again for those two things!

My wife and I were in SD recently and stayed in Del Mar while there. I lived in Encinitas as a kid for a few years. I had to go to 101 diner for breakfast 3 of the 5 days we were there. The S.O.B omelette is so delicious. The salsa that comes with it is phenomenal best I’ve had. My wife gets the apple pancake she absolutely loves it. “It’s really big” Everything looks so good but I can’t steer away from my usual. Oh ya and fresh squeezed orange juice. Portions are huge didn’t really need much for lunch. Highly reccomended . These guys do it right
Very consistent food. They do the best egg Benedicts! My favorite is the shaved ham with cilantro/ jalapeno hollandaise sauce. Good stuff!
The server, Christa was just amazing!! Funny, beautiful and so thoughtful! The food I ordered was the tri tip omelette!! Omg amazing!! The potatoes were so crispy and delicious! Definitely worth going again and again!!

Our favorite breakfast spot. We love sitting at the counter and watching the precision work of the grill experts. We also often sit outside with our dog. 101 is old but very clean and all the staff is wonderful, helpful and welcoming. Parking can be a pain because its down town. We just plan a nice walk to see all the local shops when going to and from breakfast or lunch.

These past few days I decided to see who has the better restaurant between the rivalry between the 101 Diner and the Encinitas Cafe. The 101 is your typical diner experience. Friendly staff, but the wait for sitting and bill was extensive. That said this is going on during the pandemic so its understandable. The eggs and cardiff crack wasnt anything worth writing home about, but their pancakes were very good. For the price of the food it was okat. All in all, I had an average experience.
The 101 Diner is always a go to. Great Homemade Taste, Feel Good Food, Breakfast Or Lunch. Hands down best Acai Bowls in town, Best Eggs Benedict in SD.

You can expect to get some things when you come here. 1) Breakfast that you can be proud to show off, but are more excited to eat, 2) A friendly staff that offers great recommendations and banter, 3) Lots of locals, a good sign as far as Im concerned.The milkshake is tasty and comes with the classic side metal tin of the overflow. The sirloin steak salad is huge. I think there was a half a cow and a whole head of lettuce in the bowl. The corned beef hash was outstanding. Brunch for the two of us was about $25. Not bad for the steak salad, hash, milkshake, and a soda.We sat at the bar and didnt have a wait at all. But if you want to sit at a table, busy weekend mornings could lead to some extended waiting times.

Stopped here for breakfast on my way to San Diego and surprisingly it was one of the best breakfasts I ever had. Eggs were cooked perfectly. I asked for over medium eggs and Ive got perfect over meduim eggs. I can tell whoever cooks there respects his/her job. Such a pleasant experience.

The food here is fantastic and head something for everyone. Ambience is not the highlight. You come for the food. Service was great. The only downside is parking. Street only... If you can find a spot. Great for locals.

Wow! Fantastic breakfast. On staff recommendation I ordered the Corned Beef Hash Benedict and it was delicious. I could tell the Hollandaise sauce and corned beef were made in house from scratch. Highly recommend! Our server was Katie - she was kind and helpful and cares about the diner a lot.Great food, great service, quick and casual. Perfect spot for a beachy morning breakfast. ♥️

Food was great and the service was fast even tho it was very crowded. They have classic favorite breakfasts, some with unique twists. They have a great beach city relaxed atmosphere.
30 years later the breakfast was still great. How they get the eggs etc. so hot is amazing as I love hot food. Theres both seating as well as counter seats.

Great local diner offering a variety of breakfast/lunch. It gets busy quickly but seating available inside, out back, and along the front sidewalk. I recommend the chorizo scramble with tortillas.

Really good breakfast place. Hollandaise for Benedict was above average! Wasnt thrilled by pretty dirty messy prep/coffee area and bathroom last time. I would stop in again cause food is great, but Id check those back areas before I order.
