I’m down this way on vacation when my vehicle started giving me problems. I called High Gear after hours and left a voicemail begging there to be a spot open to get some work done. They called me as soon as they opened and were able to help me with a tow to the shop. They were very communicative with me throughout the parts process and everything. Years ago I managed a repair shop in a different state. I recently moved here and chose to take my car to Hi Gear based on reviews. My check engine light came on, so I took my car in. They quoted me a price for the repair. When they called to say the car was ready to be picked up they also said the cost of the repair was less than quoted due to it not taking as long to repair as they originally thought. I really appreciate the honesty. They are now the only place I will take my vehicles.

The lady at work came out what is at the front desk told me my car was F…… Filthy and extremely rude nothing on my car got fixed they are affiliated with A1 auto and glass collision in Englewood I was hit by another car and my insurance made me go there nothing got fixed I ended up taking my car somewhere else finally and had all the issues fixed I had to pay for myself extremely unfriendlyI don’t know if it was due to high season but I don’t think I’ve ever been treated that badly and again I took my car somewhere else to get fixed and paid for myself out of pocket instead of ever going back to that place

I have a Mercedes C300 that has always been serviced at the dealership. Since I moved here and starting going to High Gear no more service needed from dealership. They handle everything from helping me with recommending brand new great riding tires to doing my full service on my car at a fraction of the dealer charges. I consider myself a car guy. I am very particular about who works on my car. After taking my cars in for a few minor issues it became apparent that High Gear is honest, trustworthy and knowledgeable.

How often do you actually feel GOOD about paying for auto service? Its pretty rare. But thats how I feel about this shop. The quality of work at the shop is rare, too. I obtained service on my 2005 Toyota 4Runner at a different local shop. 200 miles later the engine had a major problem; that mechanic said I needed a new engine, and didnt believe the new problem was related to his recent work. Patrick heard the story and suggested he might be able to repair the engine at half the cost of a new (used) one. In deed, he did that, and identified the problem caused at the prior shop. Few mechanics have the formal training that Patrick has (his partner is one of them). Add to that, their professionalism, honesty, friendly staff out front. They told me what service was worth doing, and work isnt worth it. Its SO satisfying to know that Ive found MY mechanic for as long as I live in the area. Mitch Leavitt, North Port.

I highly recommend High Gear Automotive. Their best quality is HONESTY.I asked about needing new tires and new brakes on my 16 year old Honda Odyssey and was told not yet. And after repairing the automatic window on one side, I asked if they thought I should just go ahead and do preventive maintenance on the other side and they said, No, just because one window broke doesnt necessarily mean the other one will. Their prices are very fair, particularly when compared to the Honda dealership. Also I like that they try to explain what your car needs in laymans terms and not car-guy speak. Waiting area is comfortable, neat and tidy which illustrates their interest in good customer service.Since I started using High Gear for my car maintenance, I have that sense of security that I am doing business with HONEST folk who practice THE GOLDEN RULE.

Great service and on time. Had a problem with two of four tires. On our trailer. Not their problem. They called Goodyear and had them replaced right away. When we need tires for our other vehicles we will return. Wish they did motorcycle tires too.

Honesty and integrity. Ill go back with my high end car. Changed my rating! It was 5 star. Now 1. I asked for an estimate on a head gasket job. But I couldnt afford it at the time so I said not to. My car was there for an electronic switch. Well I found dish soap in my radiator... A lot. I had to flush it 25 times. Thank god I check the fluid every day. They tried to blow my engine. My new mechanic agreed that it was dish soap.

Recently had work done at High Gear on my Car. They have taken care of both of my cars for about 8 years and I have always been satisfied with their work and it was no different this time. They set up a time and it was done when they said it would be. Whenever I have problems Pat and Thad have always been more than fair and honest.  If you need work done High Gear is the place.

Good work at an average price

I have been using High Gear Auto for three years, and I have been pleased with their work each and every time I take my cars to them. The employees are honest, fair and completely knowledgeable. Whats more, the office employees are always friendly, helpful and understanding. I have been so impressed with them that I have recommended them to all of my friends and neighbors, all of whom have had the same great experiences I have had.

These guys know what they are doing from small sedans to large heavy duty pickups. You might save a few bucks at another shop - but Id rather rest assured and not have to worry if some important bolt was over or under tightened....

This place comes highly recommended, but honestly, I dont see how. Their prices are obscene and they flat out lied about the rear differential needing to be replaced in my car. They quoted over a $500 fix for a faulty bushing and missing bolts in my rear diff. Took it to another shop a few days later and the mechanic there brought me out under the hoist to show me what was going on..... literally a loose bolt is all it was. It was so loose that you could finger tighten it. 10 minute fix!! Places like High Gear give mechanics all over, a bad reputation in my opinion.

They quoted me $360 for tuneup, actually came in at $275.- Mechanic Pat did fast and precise work. He found a broken dipstick tube that Gettel Chrysler was paid to fix 2 years ago. He called and explained the additional work needed without any pressure. Just the facts. He is a FIVE STAR mechanic.

As a part time resident I make arrangement to have my vehicle serviced at High Gear before going north. The workmanship is excellent and the personnel friendly. I usually wait while my car is being serviced and find the customer waiting area very clean, including the rest rooms. I highly recommend High Gear for your auto service.

While vacationing in this area of Florida from Maryland, I had the misfortune of having a major issue with my vehicles Air Conditioner. This issue occurred soon after we arrived in the area and really had the potential of ruining much of our vacation.Fortunately my luck changed, by pure chance I passed by High Gear Automotive. Since I had already tried charging the AC system myself in vain, then followed that up by using a sealer that also failed, I felt that I needed to have the system checked put and hopefully fixed by professionals. Fortunately for me I really came to the right place. Although I was in a vulnerable situation, I was treated with the utmost respect, I felt like I was a long time customer. As it turned out I needed a fairly time consuming repair to replace a failing evaporator core, this required the disassembly of the whole dashboard assembly. During this repair period I was provided with an air conditioned loaner that allowed our vacation to continue along unhindered during the duration of the repair.The professionalism provided to me by the Staff as well as the legitimate compassion shown in regard to my personal plight during my family vacation is truly appreciated and is noteworthy. The cost of the repair was very reasonable given the amount of labor time needed, it was far less costly than what I would have paid had I had the same repair done back home in Maryland. The repaired AC performs well and provided a cool environment through several hot days during the second half of our vacation along with our trip home to Maryland and beyond.This business provided me with an exceptional level of service during a time of great need. I would highly recommend this business to fellow vacationers and locals alike. If Im back in the area I will certainly utilize them again if the need arises. They are top notch, trustworthy, reasonable and Customer focused for sure. 👍

I was in Florida visiting my parents and stopped in before heading back to CT to have things checked over, and this place was recommended. I have to say, they were absolutely amazing. Not only did the owner Thad spend nearly 10 minutes answering questions I had about whether I should trade in my car and what makes have the best track record (the transmission is starting to act up), they didnt charge me anything for the service or try to sell me something it didnt need! I wish I lived nearby so I could make them my go-to mechanic.

We have been going to High Gear for over ten years, every time we take one of our vehicles in for an issue Pat and Thad have always fixed it the first time . They are not like some mechanics who will just start replacing parts to try and fix it and then overcharge you. They take PRIDE in their work and let their work speak for themselves. We have been using High Gear for 7 years now for all of our automotive repairs and maintenance. They are fair, honest, and do excellent work. When they find a problem they explain it to you and go over the options. They helped us when we bought a used car and provided guidance to my wife when she broke down on alligator alley. I began using High Gear Automotive 4 years ago. In that time I have been continuously impressed with the work they have performed and the fairness in their pricing. I am not a mechanical person and hence the most important element in my selection of a service provider is trust.They have saved me a lot of money compared to using a dealership and at times have instructed me to take it to the dealer because they knew it would be covered by my warranty. They could have repaired it and charged me but they were honest and directed me to go to the dealer.They also service my wifes car and we both appreciate the timely service, quality of workmanship and friendly service we receive in every exchange with them. Im new to the area and was skeptical about taking my 1999 Corvette to a auto repair shop to diagnose my AC problem. I found High Gear on the web and read all the great 5 star reviews. They werent kidding. I called and made an appointment. When I got there they took my car right in and started on it immediately. Thad took the time to walk me thru everything he was doing. I found out I only needed a recharge and I was on my way and my AC was blowing ice cold. Thank you very much!!

High Gear Automotive is by far the most professional and most knowledgeable automotive repair facility Ive ever seen! They recently handled new metal valve stems on the tires on my Lance travel trailer and new Michelin tires on my SUV. I plan to have them do all of my automotive work (routine maintenance and non-routine stuff as well).

High Gear has done Tires, alignments, oil changes etc. They are very Professional and We would recommend them to everyone. Even some of our neighbors have gone to them and others in our car clubs.

My neighbor recommended these guys. I usually do all my own maintenance but tire changing and alignment are things that should be left to the experts. They called to tell me it was done, at that point I was informed that there were a couple other issues but none of them a big enough deal to warrant repair. First, thanks to the person I spoke with for pointing me in the right direction, I will fix those issues in the near term. Second, the alignment is awesome! My subby drives like a dream now and the bill was less than expected... I will certainly be back!

We moved to Englewood, Fl in August, 2011. In December 2011, I developed a front brake squeal on my Dodge Grand Caravan. On December 13th I made an appointment with High Gear Automovive. After first diagnosing the problem and giving me an estimate, they replaced the front brake pads and turned the rotors. The work was done right at a reasonable price. I had been going to them ever since. I trust them and they have earned my trust. As an added bonus, their waiting room is clean, bright and comfortable.

We are snowbirds and own a home in Rotonda West. We have a 2001 Sebring convertible LXi with a 2.7L engine with 93,000 miles, which my wife and her friend found and bought in 2013 after I retired to use as a second car. We only put on roughly 3000 miles a year on it. The car was running fine until last week, when the temperature gauge dropped out while were driving ( not a good sign ). We parked the car and I started reviewing on the internet on possible causes, most of them not good, apparently the 2.7 litre engine is noted for water pump problems which generally blow up engines.We asked around the neighborhood and several people suggested High Gear and after getting several quotes, we booked an appointment for them to do the needed repairs. I spoke with Patrick personally to discuss what I wanted done, because of what I read on the internet about how much time and that the engine would be almost dismantled, I had them change the water pump, thermostat, spark plugs and do an oil change while the engine was in pieces.The repairs were completed in a timely manner and after picking up the car, we only drove it 3 miles home that night. The next day my wife was out driving around and when she pulled into the garage there was steam coming from under the hood, turns out that we had a defective thermostat, which was replaced under warranty the next day. I would like to thank Patrick and his assistant for working overtime so we could have the car for the weekend.
