I had a flat tire and was lucky to be five minutes away from this shop. They were so polite and quick. I’m grateful they open at 8am. They have a side door for bikes and a front door for people.

I left my bike at the store for repair. The store was very busy, but they checked my bike quickly and called me back the next day. Although I was sad to learn that the rear wheel can’t be fixed, the specialist explained the reason very well and provided great recommendation. I should have been charged for the checking and repairing efforts, but Cecelia was very nice and waived the charge. I will definitely return to this place if I need bike repair in the future and recommend it to my friends.

Knowledgeable, friendly, honest, and they do good work. They’ve tuned up and repaired our rides for several years and have helped us select the right bikes and accessories, even special ordering when needed. I would highly recommend this shop.

Just moved to town and needed to repair my 20 year-old bike. They literally opened the door for me to get my bike in and examine it for potential repairs. They filled the tire tubes up with air for free and helped me out with finding everything I needed. And to top it off, they opened the door for me when I left! Such a great store. And it’s in a great neighborhood area. Highly recommend!

This bike shop, is honest, reliable and stands by there work. They fixed a flat on my bike and I needed to take it back because it was a little bumpy. The took me right away and made it all better. They are knowledge and honest and love the precautions they are taking for everyone during caviar. The are nice people who know bikes and respect their opinion on what needs to be done. I am so happy I found them!

I have never been so thankful for a local bike shop than today!Called around 5:15PM (shop closed at 6 PM today) and the woman on the phone was incredibly sweet when I let her know I had a tire blowout during my ride. She let me know that more than likely they had the tube in stock I needed to get back on the road and were happy to help, regardless of me being there close to their close time.There were about 4-5 customers working with Alex in the parking lot and he was attentive to everyones needs without missing a step! He brought out new tubes for us right in the lot (socially distant!) and we went to go pop the new tube in...5 seconds later... POP again!Alex again was super helpful in checking out the tire itself, and Im pretty sure it was after closing time by now! He found a small tear in the lining and helped replace the tire and tube and gave us some great insight into how we could overcome this issue in the future if a local shop wasnt available.Thank you again to Alex and everyone at Bucephalus for the help getting us back on the road! Would recommend this shop to anyone looking for bicycle repair and advice!

10 stars!! Alex and Bucephalus Bikes are a diamond in the rough truly helpful and thoughtful group of people. I called Alex at 8 AM on Sunday and he took time out of his busy day to help me troubleshoot an issue I was having with my brake cable. My front brakes had lost all tension and I had a ride later that morning. Because of Alexs tremendous knowledge and insight I was able to fix the issue in time for my ride. I am so grateful this is the best place I recommend it to anyone!!

These folks are top notch. They tuned up my bike, which now rides like new. And a month after, when the brakes were rubbing (due to my own error), they rebalanced they without charging me. It’s a family business, and they are very good at what they do.

I was on a long ride and got a flat coming into Evanston. I walked a mile to Bucephalus (the only open store on Sunday during covid) - and was told by the person working they were just too busy to help. She said they would hold my bike until the end of the day and then fix all the flats. Well, I couldnt wait 6 hours for such a simple procedure. I am very fortunate I was able to call my partner to drive from Chicago to pick me up (an hour drive, during which I waited in the park across from the bike shop). When I got home I walked over to the shop on my street. The flat was fixed in 15 minites, (plus a quick addition to the frame). I understand everyone is stressed, and Im sure the shop was indeed busy. But knowing this was a 15 minute fix that they just chose not to inconvenience themselves with - and 10 miles from home no less, is incredibly disappointing. Ill be sending people elsewhere.

The bottom line is that Alex and his entire crew want to help you get what you need, and for you to be happy. I had a new Surly built in the summer of 2018 and have had nothing but great personalized service since day one. Pricing has always been very fair, and Alex has gone out of his way to make sure that I was happy with every detail of the bike that was built. Family businesses like this are few and far between. I highly recommend Bucephalis, especially if you want to support local small businesses in the area.

I came in with my son who has a Magna bicycle. I get it isnt the grandest brand of bicycles but it is his. Anyway, we walked in and talked to the employee about us having problem with the shifter. He bluntly told us he refused to work on such a cheap bicycle. This was shocking and disappointing. I will not return here or suggest this shop to anyone.

My rear rack broke on my bike after my bike fell down. I rode to the shop and they had a new rack on my bike in a half hour with free installation. Nice people, good mechanic, all around good experience.

I took my old Schwinn bike to Bucephalus Bikes for a tune-up and to add some needed accessories for my commute to work. I received excellent customer service and expert work on my bike. Alex, the owner, took the time to find out what it was that I was looking for and offered great suggestions. When I went to pick up the bike I almost did not recognize it! It looked brand-new and ready for the road. He made a smart adaptation to the rear-view mirror that I purchased so it fit my particular model. I felt like my old bike received star treatment, I have been riding it to work since and it runs like never before. Everyone at the store is courteous and attentive. This type of top of the line small business is what made America prosper and the kind that we need more of!

Alex answers to your questions with patience and in a friendly manner, suggests the repairs that your bike really needs and does not push you for repairs that are not really necessary. Best place to get your bike fixed in town. Alex knows his stuff about bikes. Before Alex had his shop and I had to go some other place, the service was just O K. Then I went to Bucephalus and then I could tell the BIG difference when I started riding my bike after Alex and his team worked on it. It felt like a brand new bike to me. I came in to the store to ask for an overhaul of my rear wheel, which seemed to be experiencing more than normal friction and hence causing my chain to lose tension when I back pedaled.The owner convinced me (my bad for letting him do that, but he is supposed to be the expert) that all that was needed was a new chain. He offered to replace the chain for the cost of the chain (no installation fee). He replaced the chain but that had no effect on the problem. He then started to tell me that my bottom bracket needed replacing. Besides not being able to feel the flaw that he claimed to feel in the bottom bracket, it obviously doesnt have anything to do with the friction in the rear wheel. He changed his mind about the bottom bracket and came to the conclusion that the rear hub needed to be overhauled, but he said I would have to leave my bike with him for a week to get it done. I declined.He charged me $23 for the chain and $10 for labour. Apparently labour is separate from installation fee. He didnt apologize or even acknowledge that he needlessly replaced the chain (which I didnt ask for, and I didnt think was required) when I told him at the beginning that the hub should be overhauled.I later went to the recyclery and (with help from the friendly staff) overhauled the rear hub myself ... for free! That fixed the problem nicely.......Addendum:After posting this review the owner phoned me to discuss the review. He is very concerned about the reputation of his business and was obviously upset about the negative tone of the review. Nevertheless, he expressed his feelings politely and considerately on the phone. As a result of our conversation, I am appending my initial review.While the information in my initial review was accurate, it may not have been a complete. I should have mentioned that I was treated in a friendly manner and that the owner attempted to fix my bike on the spot, despite having a large backlog of bikes in the shop waiting to be serviced. In this respect, the service that I received was exemplary.Additionally, my rear derailleur was wiped down and lubricated as an initial attempt at an easy solution. It didnt solve the problem, but the lubrication was good for the bike and I was not charged for it.Finally, I recognize that a diagnosis in the field of bike repair is merely a matter of opinion and that correct opinions are never guaranteed.

What a refreshing neighbourhood gem!The owner not only perfectly picked out and modified a bike for my 8 year old but asked me if i would also like my other kids bikes tuned up and sized...At no additional cost. He also helped me search out a better hitch and bike carrier for our SUV. Other customers where treated the same. The owners older kids were helping out in the repair shop. I havent seen this type of vibe for years. If this shop doesnt make you want to buy local and support small business then nothing will. Thank you Bucephalus! To this one of the best hidden gem bike shops in the Chicagoland area in my opinion. I have brought in three bikes for repair tune ups and have always been very happy with my bikes afterwards. This is the kind of bike store that you could bring in a 20,30,40 year old bike, and they would find a way to get it back to you in perfect riding condition. It is a family run store and I think they are lovely. The shop is nestled in a residential area in Evanston and has an eclectic feel to it. Prices are fare and competitive to just about any other bike store. Turn around time has never really been a problem for me either, but I have a few bikes so I am never in a hurry to get my bike back. The one thing that I really like about the this place is I that they not only clean it really well, but it looks like the bike is polished and waxed. Can I also mention they are open on Sunday.

My bike rack fell off of my car and bent up my rim on my brand new Joe Breezer repack mountain bike. The following day I had plans to go 2 Kettle Moraine. but with a bent rim and no bike shop that would be open before our departure time 9 a.m. on Sunday I was doomed and bummed. Luckily this awesome bike shop open at 8 a.m. on a Sunday. The 30-minute Drive was more than worth it as they were able to get my wheel true. The service the professionalism the price the atmosphere the conversation and the expertise and knowledge of the bike machanic was well above and beyond any bike shop I have been to. And in 20 years of my biking Ive been 2 a lot of bike shops . I wish we could clone this bike shop and distribute them all through the city. I was just getting ready to call Alex/Kamille about brining my Cannondale road bike. This is my baby. One Ive used competitively in triathlons. Ive always performed minor fixes and have kept it great shape over the five years Ive owned it. I just realized that this will be my fifth bike Ive handed over to Bucephalus for servicing, perform tune-ups, and provide a good spring look-over. These duties have always been carefully (if not lovingly) accomplished.While firings and outsourcing have an extremely negative connotation in the corporate world, I am only too happy to fire myself and outsource my bike maintenance to Bucephalus.
