Absolutely classic breakfast/lunch eat in, or carry out eatery. Specializes in awesome ham and bacon sandwiches in fresh sub style bread. Also home made sausages as well as great veggie omlets. Been around for 52 years.
Classic greasy spoon, one of the best and last left on the north shore. A hangout for New Trier and ETHS students. Don’t even look at the menu, get the bacon loretta with egg, cheesy hash and a coffee.
Its been here since I can remember and will be here long after we are gone. Well, it may be an exaggeration, but this is a great sandwich shop. It was better before the pandemic, mainly because you could go inside and sit down, like a regular restaurant. Now, they still have seating, though its in the tent, outside. Itll still be fine, until the cold comes back.Personal favorite is the Disaster Sandwich. Cheese, peppers, onion, tomato, and Armenian sausage. Highly advised.
Its a warm summer day. First time here for 3 of the 4 of us. There is a building but in front and to the side there are tents with sides open for ventilation. Inside the tents they have picnic tables or tables with chairs and benches very casual and low. I like that. On ground in some areas they have artificial grass this I thought okay until I saw someone almost fall tripping on it.I order an an omelette with broccoli and white cheese with bacon in it I said thats it for me. For me that means I didnt want anything else with it. For her that meant I get the sides I didnt know I got sides with the eggs. I think she should of clarified that with me. The sides, with a large piece of french bread and hash browns which I dont eat and threw away. She asked we wanted ketchup, we said, no, but we got that too.We said the order was for here yet everything was in styrofoam containers with plastic forks. The food was good, everyone seemed to enjoy their food. About $11.50 per person. Is this how it always was done? Or is this indicative of how its done because its the summer and/or Covid-19?
This institution has adapted well to the environment. They have expanded their seating capacity to allow for social distancing. The dining area is well ventilated. Grand kudos to management and teammates! For first-timers, order the Sarkis Special omelet. Ask for Spicy Hash. Also, the Loretto(bacon / ham / sausage) is the trademark breakfast sandwich of Northshore high school teens. Try it with the Cheesey Hash.Sarkis flavors Lorettos and other meals with a mixture of fresh diced green peppers, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms and white American cheese.Yum!😋
Very strange setup. Were past covid sort of. There was no evidence of indoor seating or a bathroom. The staff were nice but chosen for looks, apparently. No plates or tableware were offered. The prices have gone way up. I tipped $5 at the front register and still nobody came to my table after serving the food. Sarki would shake his head in shame. Im not going back. However the omelette/hash brown/toast combo is still the bomb.
A North shore staple, Ive been going here since HS. They have alot of breakfast options, you really cant go wrong at this place.
Went in on a Sunday at about 11:00 a.m. The cramped space was so packed that even the waitstaff could barely move. We grabbed a table for two and waited about 25 minutes with no service at all. We finally gave someone else the table and went up to the counter, which h was standing room only, and ordered our food to go. When we finally got our food and squeezed our way to the front door, the people at our table said they still hadnt seen anyone. We ordered an omelette and a Loretta. Both were very good but not good enough to make up for the terrible service. It was largely a young crowd and Ive heard if you go in during the week while school is in session you can get decent service. Unfortunately Ill be working then so probably wont be back.
Casual outdoor breakfast and lunch(sandwich) place. Yummy preparation and good prices!
Been around for ever..I came here when in Jr high, there is limited seating as in 2 booths and a counter That makes Sarkis a neat experience ...but ...covid added a tent so no waiting..old man Sarkis is gone. But, the food is still great ...large portions be ready,, everything is served in a takeout box..no dishes here!!! And it works...I enjoyed the sarkis special omelet and the Sarkis hospitality. Enjoy
Sarkis is a great breakfast all day place that is famous for its Loretta sandwiches filled with a meat of your choosing(you can get one with bacon, ham, turkey, chorizo, or the Disaster which has Armenian beef) and piled high with fresh veggies, mayo and white cheese. Or you could go traditional and get an omelette, pancakes, French toast, etc.The staff is always friendly and they work quick, even when its crowded. The dining area inside is small, but thats just part of the charm. Plus there is seating out front for the nice days. There is plenty of parking too.A classic place with a classic menu.
Great breakfast sandwiches, The Disaster is my favorite. American sausage, mozzarella, onion, green peppers, & tomatoes (diced), on chewy french bread. Its amazing!
I see always many cars parked in the morning that I decided to give it a try, nothing special from my point of view.
Excellent breakfast. Dont miss the disaster sausage. It is great.
Ive been going here since I first started high school back in 2006, and my mom went here before me when SHE was in high school in the late 80s! Ive always loved this place💕
I’ve heard a lot about this place before giving it a try & unfortunately it was a miss. Not really good... maybe it’s not my style but for the high price you’re paying you’re getting some pretty low quality slapped together breakfast.. and you’ll also get the runs afterwards. I’ll stick to my traditional diners.
Best omelettes...EVER.
The best breakfast diner, period, but that doesnt even say enough. All the standard stuff like omelettes and pancakes etc.. all top notch, but the thing that really stands out for me is the disaster sausage. Its so unique and special, Ive never had anything like it anywhere else. 20/10 I recommend sarkis to everyone I meet and take every out of towner I know when they are in town. Have been bringing family and friends there for years and will continue to do so.
The Loretta sandwich is my all-time favorite!
Get the bacon Loretta! Best breakfast sandwich anywhere
Delicious as ever and I like the outdoor seating
Might be ok if you are under the age of 18. Teen run establishment with obnoxious rap music blasting at full volume non stop. I couldnt have a conversation at my table. I couldnt hear the waitress. Dirt everywhere. Napkin holders covered with smeared food. Walls splattered with dried food. Omelette was good. They can toast bread. Yay.
Great food, highly recommend the egg within your sandwich. Ask for your veggies extra crisp. Social distancing measures were in place, greatly appreciated.
Cash only. Pay prior to eat
I would leave 0 stars if I could. Ordered Samanthas breakfast. They barely cooked the hashbrowns and put the dripping wet and stinky eggs on top of them. Stinky eggs were almost rotton they smelled real bad. I dont know how the cook didnt realize. The French toast isnt French toast. Its sad. Dont know how the place is so busy. Took 20 mins standing in line to get pick up order. Im starving and wont even touch that sticky soggy pile they call breakfast. Save yourself. Dont go to this stye. Also didnt get the bacon I paid for. The one thing they probably wouldnt have ruined. Garbage establishment.
This place has such good breakfast!
Great food!! Fantastic place to eat. Small and cozy
The temporary seating has added a new & exciting chapter to a lengendary place.
Weird covid crazy
The bacon Loretta never fails! And is a Chicago staple! If youve never had one you need too! Its life changing.
Really good food
Solid food, great spot. Love the atmosphere
The hostess was so rude we left!! I hate leaving bad reviews for small businesses but we came in on Saturday and the young girl at the counter was an awful representation of your business. Not friendly, unhelpful, and barely even looked up from her phone to answer our question. We had never been to your restaurant and we will NEVER go there again.
Breakfast is Sarkis specialty and they do lt well.
Who can top a Loretta?! Great place for a gut bomb!
First time here, Surprising they were taking only cash! Might be the COVID 19 without cash for the safety of customers and employees. It was okay breakfast. And sometimes not any person can carry a cash in Chicago. I’m one of them. waiting line was longer time. Thanks you for the cooperation
Had a BLT and special hash browns. It was good. Friendly service.
The wait for about an hour but it was a Sunday morning so it was busy. The food was great as usual. I got the Sarkis special omelette and my bf got the Mexican omelette. The pancakes are really good and fluffy.
Always good food and great service.
Outdoor tented semi heated seating for a breakfast lunch time spot...excellent
Always clutch. Delicious food and the staff is so friendly. Disaster Sausage is delicious and try the special hash browns...TDF!
Been going here for years. Food is always fantastic, typically very busy during weekends and peak times but theres a reason for that. Service is friendly but you can definitely be forgotten about and lost when its busy. Its cash only so be prepared before going, although there is an ATM on site.
Great food and very nice people.
Still the best breakfast sandwiches anywhere.
Great food my favorite is the Loretta and the cheesy hash
Been coming here for 35+ years. Miss the old man, RIP. Food is always outstanding! Service is great too!
Cult following, Ive been going here for over 30 years. The disaster is the thing to have, nothing like it anywhere. I add bacon and take off the vegetables cause I love meat. I always bring out of state friends to enjoy this secret spot. Sarkis was a great man, I cant count the times he feed people in need with no money, a true friend of all who came to hear his stories and eat his food. RIP sir.
Ive been coming here for years and they never fail to impress!
Brings back a lot of good memories!!
Definitely good food and friendly. As of lately, when picking up my food they keep forgeting to include everything I ordered. This has been happening way to often, and to others. If they didnt consistently make the same mistake I would of given them a five-star.
Great place for breakfast and their food is fire good. Only thing it’s a small place and you can’t breath if you try spicy food because there is no air. Really good service and friendly staff
This food was beyond amazing. The coffee is good too. It has a Cinnamon taste to it. The hashbrowns are delicious and the omelettes are huge! Will definitely come back if we are in Chicago again.
Disappointed. no plates no topping for pancakes over priced. omega or walker brothers next time. long time customer from the 80s
Anyone who has posted less than 5 stars doesnt get it. Thats your fault, not Sarkis. The more reviews I read, the more I see that people are lazy and dont know how to read the vibes of a place or respect an institution. You dont know how to order, and expect table service on a weekend morning? Tough cookies, sweetheart, how do you see people consistently served at the counter yet not realize oh, hey, looks like you order at the counter and theyll bring it to you. You ever wanted a place like the soup restaurant in Seinfeld? Well, here ya go. Figure it out, or ask somebody who knows how to order, and voila -- welcome to heaven. Boo hoo, stairs and a wait. You waited because you dont know how to approach the counter. Yeah, theres codes and a process to the place, and I wish that could be said of more spots (as if we cant all think of a Vienna Beef spot that requires some kind of knowhow). Its like a Malort shot -- your friend gets you to take one, you experience it (and hopefully come to love it), and then youre part of something and can pass it to the next person. Sorry, but Im tired of the uninitiated and meek writing bad reviews because they lack moxie.Coming close to my 20-years-of-flawless-Sarkis-experiences point, and Im looking forward to another 20. Food is always beautiful, service is always fast & with a smile, I wish literally anything else in my life could be as consistent as the Lorettas Ive enjoyed over the years, but until my wife and I hit the 20yr anniversary mark...Sarkis is the champ. Do it.
My friend and I loved this little hole in the wall thats been there for years. One of those places you pass by and wonder how good it is..well..its really good! If your local you got to go.
Been going here for 15 years for breakfast. Classic bacon Loretta amazing.
Great place & price to visit for a greasy breakfast.
I have been coming here since I was 13 and have spent well over ten thousand dollars in my lifetime; no regrets.
Yum. Hangover-b-gone.
Loretta’s the way to go. Try the Armenian sausage!
Dont come without cash!!!
Order the bacon Lauretta and special hash, you won’t regret it.
Cozy little greasy spoon and it was wonderful. My wife had the Brandon special grilled cheese which comes with 2 kinds of cheese along with fried egg and ham on French bread and it was the best breakfast sandwich she ever had. I had the disaster omelet and the tomatoes and onions were grilled to perfection. They only take cash but they have an ATM in the building. There is not much space so I can imagine that it gets pretty crowded at times. We would definitely go back.
Love the sandwiches and the new outdoor seating only added to the atmosphere. Highly recommend
Any rating under under 5 stars is blasphemy
This place should be considered a historical landmark. It holds a special place in my heart. Bacon loretta with spicy cheesy hash is my favorite order. Also this is by far the best food on the planet for hangovers, this fact is not debatable.
We’ve been here a few times. Good wholesome breakfast food. My son liked his pancakes with M&Ms. I enjoyed the Mexican surprise omelet. Yum. The ambiance is cheeky. A hole in the wall. Overall very good!
This place is awesome and always packed. Such rich and full flavored food that isnt on the greasy side. There is a reason this place is so popular! This was the animal with 2 eggs on it.
If you have A LOT of time to spend ordering and eating then Im sure its okay. However if youre looking for something to go then find another spot. No one at all will greet you or help you place your order. This is only for sit down eating!!
Love this place.. I live in Michigan now and truly miss This eatery.
Omelette was over cooked and more of a scramble. Coffee was burnt tasting. It did have a quaint, authentic diner feel to it and nice outdoor seating. Service was decent, even on a busy Sunday morning.
Food is just awesome here
Still the best breakfast sandwich ever.
The Loretta is the greatest invention known to man. Periodt.
Weird place but you should check this place out once if you never have been there. Drove past this place for 30 years, finally checked it out. Service was so-so, food was good. But the weirdness is worth checking it out. I dont think you would regret visiting this place once. Sat in the back room, had these bright lights shining on us like head lights, but food was pretty good. Mostly just trying to figure this place out was entertaining enough.
Awesome service thank you
This place was great. It had a real old time diner feel and the service was great. The portions are huge. Be careful with the the disaster sausage.
This place is a staple in the community. Everybody from the surrounding areas knows about Sarkis and if they dont, its their loss. They have hands down the best breakfast, with a incredibly fast and friendly staff. I ordered the disaster omelette which comes with onions, green pepper, tomato and ground beef. Its fantastic, totally with the money. The omelettes come with a sidíe of French bread with jam or butter. Amazing place, definitely recommend.
