This was by far the most seamless and easiest rental process I have ever been through! My wife and I recently have taken up photography as a hobby to go along with our trips to the national parks! We were headed on a 5 hour bus tour through Denali National Park and knew that if we wanted any chance at getting any good wildlife photos we needed a better lens! I messaged the owners on Facebook and they responded within minutes! They were helpful on tips and tricks talked to me about different lenses and uses for the lenses and went out of their way to make sure that we were able to enjoy the rental and make it work for us and the business (staying open later and opening on days that they normally don’t)! I will 100% recommend anyone to rent from Alaska Camera any time they are in Fairbanks!

The gentleman went above and beyond to help us with our camera recommended settings for the lights etc. etc, the tripods are sturdy easy to use, and the prints in the shop are beautiful. Come here for all of your camera needs.

We rented a camera with tripod and remote for 2 days for only 109 dollars. The owner told us a lot of tips to take good pictures of Northern lights. We could give it back even on Saturday. Thank you very much.

Alaska Camera is the best camera store and photo lab in Alaska. They carry an excellent variety of equipment and supplies. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable about all aspects of photography. Recently I was in there needing help to place a long and complicated print order, and employee Forrest took care and time to help walk me through the whole thing. The quality of their prints is outstanding, from paper to metal and canvas, and more. Prices are competitive, service is fast, and my only complaint is that they dont have more locations in other parts of the state. Ive driven 320 miles each way to get a 20x30 aluminum print and its the most beautiful piece of art I own. I recommend this store for all of ones camera needs (if they dont have something you need they will order it) and highly endorse the quality of their print services. If you cant get to the store they will ship your order to you. I find their quality and assistance well worth the drive.

This place is great. Super helpful staff. Walked me through how to make mugs with pictures on them and then called me when it was ready. Then held onto the mug for like a month until I got around to picking it up.

Upon arrival at Alaska Camera, Amanda waited on my friend and me and she was very nice. I had spoken to Katie on the phone back in the Spring asking about the items I needed and she had said they had them. I questioned whether I needed to reserve them then and she told me, “No, we will have plenty of them in stock in late September”. When I arrived to get them, the store was out of the camera lens I had wanted. I was quite disappointed and had to rent a less than desirable lens for Aurora photographing. It had a good f stop, but was not a super wide angle lens, even though Amanda said it was. We also rented 2 heavy tripods and they worked well. We wound up renting a far better lens from Ronn Murray, The Aurora Chasers, for our night tour with them. We wound up getting such great photos with them, we didn’t need the equipment any longer and tried to return them for a refund, but they wouldn’t allow the refund. We didn’t think it was right to give them their equipment back so they could turn around and rent it again when we had already paid for those days, so we kept their equipment until our scheduled time to return it. Amanda was helpful and very nice, but Katie should not have told me I didn’t need to reserve the lens. If you decide to rent from Alaska Camera, make sure you reserve the equipment ahead of time!

I have nothing but positive things to say about this place. I have rented from them a number of times, and I feel the prices are reasonable for the gear. I have also ordered a camera and lens through them which arrived pretty fast in my opinion. Every one seems knowledgeable and friendly from my experiences. I have not tried out their printing services yet, but I love the products available for print.

Katie Was very knowledgeable and helpful in letting me know about other options to look into instead of the one I was looking at for what I was going to be using it for. While I wasnt able to make up my mind during my visit I will continue to come to Alaska Camera as long as the experience stays the same.

Great store great products nice cameras they even allow you to rent different lenses. A few things that may not need would be there extended warranty when you buy their camera. When you do try to use the warranty they will not allow you to even tune up your camera unless it has been ran over or dropped Im extremely high to where the damage is noticeable I tried to get my camera tuned up right before the warranty ended, it fell out of my bag out of the back seat of the truck I spent $600 on the warranty and was not allowed to use it. Someone else may have a different experience than I have but that is my experience and I really do appreciate this company though because they have great products locally. Another thing that would be nice if the company could give you more feedback on your camera as of single simple explanations on how to use the features for an example you just spent $3,000 on a camera youd expect a little bit of help. but the company does get 5 stars

I was there for passport photo and received excellent service. I observed customers and techs engaging in camera and photography services and would feel confident in going to them for beginners or highly advanced needs. Clean organized appealing environment. Local integrity

Im sure they are great with cameras, but dont have your prints done here. I placed my order online before Christmas, seeing their next day service guarantee. I assumed they would update their website accordingly for the holidays or at the very least call new orders and let them know of a delay due to issues with their equipment and holiday orders; not the case. I called the next day to see if my order was completed and the lady said, oh I really doubt that but Ill check and we cant get the order done with next day service because we have a lot of orders and the machine is down. She wasnt very nice, but Im sure she was dealing with several angry customers. I suggested they call customers when this is the case to let them know. When I picked up my order it was incorrect in several ways; duplicate prints (I still have to go through and make sure all were printed), a lot of pictures that werent even mine, the CD was missing, and apparently I missed the part about them not cutting up the wallet prints (they come 4 wallets on one sheet). I paid for my order and told the gal at the register (she was nice, thank you!) that I would be back in an hour for the CD. I returned an hour later and seems as though they forgot to make the CD so had to wait around again. Hopefully the pictures on the CD are mine.. I hate to say it, but you might be better off going to the print places at the box stores.

Came in today to look for a replacement ball head for my tripod, no one greeted me or even came over to offer assistance. When I asked the lady just said yeah its up to you on what you want, didnt offer advice or give specifics on anything. A friend went with me and she asked a question about memory cards, she got a quick response and then the employee walked away. Very rude! Yes i got my ball head replacement but my friend didnt even get to ask anymore questions on the memory cards since the employee went to help someone looking at a more expensive item, Google is more helpful than they were!

Im in Fairbanks until February for work and since I been here (October) I have become fascinated with shooting the auroras. Alaska Camera has made the learning curve very easy. Everybody is friendly and down to earth. Easy to talk to. Very understanding about my ignorance to Astrophotography. Its been nothing but a pleasant experience. Lens rentals are easy and cheap. Prints are fair but not always ready on time but Im fine with that because the quality is good. Im sure Im missing some of their other awesome qualities but go in and check them out if youre curious. Ill probably still order from here when I leave Alaska.BTW. The owners shots are amazing.

I walked into the store looking for a good northern lights portrait lens on 9/27/17. I have started to shoot northern lights routinely and live in Fairbanks. After looking through the lens I found one that looked promising, I asked if I could rent it to see if I liked it after using it for a night but the salesperson said that they had no rentals of that type of lens but he added, in no uncertain terms, that I had a 7 day window to return it if I did not like it.This information made the difference for me, I came off the fence and bought it. Today. 9/29/17, after shooting 40 shots on it, I came into return it and look for a different lens. I was told, to my surprise, there is a no return policy, I asked for the manager/owner and she backed that up. She said even though I bought it with the knowledge that I could return it in 7 days (she gave new employee excuse) that it was my problem and not hers. I find this to be unacceptable business ethics. She should have made the situation right with her customer and then spoke with the new employee and revise her new employee training program to ensure this never happens again. Regardless of the reason, I have lost total trust in this store and will never set foot in it again. Perhaps I will grow to like the $600 lens I am stuck with, but that will have no impact on my opinion of the lack of business ethics at this store. For me, Ill buy from someone else.

I recently bought a camera and lens here. The staff are super attentive, knowledgeable about their products, and give excellent advice about shooting the aurora for free. I highly recommend buying anything camera related here as they have professional equipment for rent and purchase.

Most of the employees here are super helpful. Their knowledge and experience are on point. My husband bought my DSLR camera here and they helped him find the one I wanted for my birthday. I like to support this local business in Fairbanks, and have since gone back and bought more supplies and prints of my Alaskan adventures. One employee there likes to tell you about how amazing he is at photography and will talk at length about the equipment he likes the best for what he does. This is after I tell him I dont need his help. So you may get a guy who talks about himself when you rather shop but there are emloyees like him everywhere. Overall a great hometown camera store.

Good store with good service. Watch that you dont get there last minute. They refused to let me rent equipment with about 3-4 minutes before closing. A rare occasion, but it happens.

Since their new ownership this place has quickly risen to the top. Their products are competitively priced, their staff has extensive knowledge and their customer service is top notch!

Their prices are competitive. Some of their staff members are very knowledgeable and can provide invaluable council when it comes to making the correct purchase. They have always been very helpful with me when it comes to after purchase questions or issues. I believe that the general goal of the business to help the customer get setup with the right piece of gear rather than hype product just to move inventory. If you want a good camera store in Fairbanks where you can go in and put your hands on the gear and get good information then you should support them by spending money there. Sometimes the most knowledgable techno people can be very helpful; yet occasionally put a person off. To some degree that defines a geek.

I love their selection, second to none especially in Fairbanks. That said you do pay the standard Alaska markup prices. The employees can be a bit smug until you get to know them, I have no problems talking to any of them at all anymore but I am in there fairly often (usually once per week). You may pay more than online but nothing is better than being able to take several lenses that you were looking at, putting them on your camera and taking test shots right there.

I came in for a replacement lens for a Sony a6000 and simply wanted to know what caused this one the break. The woman helping me was kind and knowledgeable. The guy who works here came off very rude. She asked him how much repair would cost and he said a million dollars. He was condescending. Then he told me I should go on ebay. I would have purchased a new lens in the store but I was being belittled and felt embarrassed because I didnt know much about the camera or the lens. I thought he was very rude and will not come back to this store again.

Awesome selection and I love that you can rent lenses for reasonable prices, never been to a camera shop that has that and the ability to try out a lens for a day or week before I decide to spend $500+ on it is amazing. Very knowledgeable staff and theyve always been more than happy to show me all the options I have to get the result I want.

The service in this store is horrid. The Skinny gal there is very rude. The manager and the other male with the longer hair know their stuff well. I wish they would train the other staff members. I rented three lenses to try out with my new Canon EOS Rebel T5i 18.0 MP Digital SLR Camera and the price was reasonable. I got a lot of really nice photos with them.

It was the best service.The owners Tom and Wendy were very kind and gave us accurate advice for our purpose of shooting the aurora. As for the camera, we prepared one that matched our skill, and thanks to that, we were able to succeed in the long-awaited aurora shooting. In addition, I am full of gratitude for the service that can not be better than this, such as providing a rental fee for one day and discounting the development cost.I would like to visit Alaska again this summer. In that case, please let me know again.
