Very impressed with this refinery….I first sent in a small lot of silver alloyed jewelry and flatware (about a month ago for my sister) and it was a hodgepodge of stuff ranging from 750 fine to sterling quality. The order was processed and payment was mailed out in check form very quickly. On Monday, I mailed out a small lot of gold (only about 9 dtw) to be processed. On their website it states that less than 3 ounces of gold will pay out 94% and over three ounces 96% which is more than reasonable!!I called today and Stuart informed me that he had received my shipment and it will be processed quickly!As somebody who enjoys thrift shopping and antiquing, it is important for me to get the best rate for my finds and equally important that they will process small quantities without acting like it’s a nuance. You get the impression that they really appreciate your business, which is rare these days!For years I have dealt with a jeweler here in the Kalamazoo area. He pays decently for clearly marked and clean gold, but not nearly 94% good! No matter how it tests, he is always trying to low ball me on unmarked jewelry. With Northern Refineries, I feel confident that I am getting an accurate quote for my jewelry with both the weight and fineness being properly taken in to account! It was easy to do business with Northern Refineries and I got what was promised. I was able to send silver and get paid directly instead of paying my company and that was important to me. I only sent a 7-pound lot to try them and they still processed my silver. Most refineries want a minimum of 10 pounds. They were very responsive to emails and I will do business with them again!

Communication with NR is excellent. Theyll answer phone calls and respond to questions as if youre a valued customer, which you are! One tough point is USPS/UPS/FedEx/insurance, but gotta pay the transporter. The other tough point is knowing that something marked 14k is not necessarily 14k, unless you have your own full assay equipment, or deal only in govt bullion, there is an unknown factor that youll have to come to terms with, and talking to NR is the only way Ive found to get over that, and theyre great to talk to.

Have been selling my metal detecting, garage sale and estate sale finds for years to gold buyers thinking I was getting a good price for my gold. I recently tried selling to one of my old gold buyers and they wouldnt even tell me what percentage of melt they would pay me. I put out an inquiry on a metal detecting forum to find out who those guys trusted and Northern Refineries came highly recommended. I contacted them, found out they were a family owned and operated business, they responded in real time to any and all questions I had and answered to my complete satisfaction. I am more than pleased with the service I received from this top notch operation. By cutting out the gold buyers and dealing directly with a refinery my settlement is much higher and there is no vague or unclear formulas used in reaching a settlement. I knew what percentage I was going to get before I mailed the gold in. They also have some really good reads on their website about hosting a gold party or a silver party. I must say this is a most excellent way to make some extra cash. A good way for a stay at home mother or military spouse to help with household income. Make sure to educate yourself on the ins and outs of buying scrap and old jewelry and go to work. As an independent you can pay more than the pawn shops or gold buying places and still make good money, a win/win for everyone involved. Again, the key is to educate yourself, know the difference between an ounce, a gram or a pennyweight and know that just because a ring or chain weighs 12 grams, that ring is composed of a percentage of gold or the karat weight, it is not 100% pure gold so youre not going to get full spot price for pure gold. There is a set formula to figure this out and a sure fire way to test the gold you are selling, a simple GOOGLE search for this information and the test kits are sold on Ebay. I have over 18 years experience with dealing in scrap and karat gold and I will continue to do business with this outstanding family owned business from now on. Never again will I do business with these guys. Every step of the way it was disjointed, and disorganized.Also, they ripped me off. I sent them 34.4 pounds of sterling silver. 1 item had filler but that items total weight was probably 8 ounces, so about 1/72nd of the stuff I sent them.The $ amount they gave me was about 50% less that it should have been. I had no recourse because all was gone and melted. Biggest mistake I have made in a while.Stay away folks.
