The sales man I was working with put off a very heavily commission based vibe. I was going to drive seven hours to this dealer to buy a truck, they ended up selling the truck 24 hours before I told them I was going to come buy it. They took down my information all my credit nine times oh for a vehicle I did not buy. I told the salesman I was interested in a specific vehicle after they sold the vehicle he tried to convince me to Drive seven hours one way to the dealer so he can try to sell me a vehicle I did not want. Kind of glad they sold the truck saves me from having to work with these guys

Dwayne Marudas did an excellent job of getting me into a car I could afford and rely on. He was quick to get answers to my questions and took the time to show me the inspections that had been done on the car as well as its history when I was feeling concerned about purchasing a used vehicle. Let me tell you about my experience with Nelsons. Last March I came in to buy a truck. The truck was awesome! Nice color, no scratches, and low miles. During the process of buying this new vehicle, I traded in my other car. However the deal we discussed was not held up on their end.In the deal, they got my previous car for a trade in and I was supposed to get the new truck bed lined, the rear tires sprayed for protection against rust and get an auto start installed. The next week when I came to pick the truck up their part of the deal wasn’t held up. I found a truck with no bed liner and no protection around the rear tires. They gave me an auto start, but that was in a box and I had to pay for it to get installed elsewhere. When I asked them about this, they pretty much said they misunderstood the agreement and that I didn’t have it in writing. “There was nothing they could do,” is what they said. The worst part about it was that I had already signed the loan paperwork. So I was stuck with it as is.With my auto start in a box and no part of the deal held up on Nelson end. If you learned anything from this review don’t buy from them, go to a dealer who will hold up their end of the deal.

We had a very poor experience at Nelson ford. We waited 4 hours for our dealer to work with us after test driving. Our dealer also did not ask questions or talk about the details with us. It was by the grace of another worker to help us and get us the vehicle and finance we wanted. So disappointed in this local dealer. I hope the rest of you have had better experiences.

All around, from beginning to end, the buying experience was very easy and stress free. Everyone at Nelson Auto is very professional, friendly and courteous to work with. The building is pretty amazing; I never expected it to be as large and modern as it was and it was very clean and organized inside. Because my husband and I already had a vehicle in mind to purchase, we didnt get the chance to browse the inventory first hand, but from just driving into the parking lot, I could tell that Nelson Auto stocks a very large breadth of inventory. Trading in our vehicle was very easy also and the trade in offer was exactly what we were looking for. Nelson Auto Center is a full service, “large scale” auto-mall, but with small-town, customer-orientated sales focus.There was one minor detail that is preventing a 5 star rating. I want to stress that this would not prevent us from buying another vehicle at Nelson Auto, I just think it is worth mentioning. The 2013 Ford Escape SEL that we found on the Nelson Auto website, was advertised at having 27,096 miles. From the time we looked at it on Saturday, to the time we drove it home, the following Tuesday evening, the odometer read 30,066 miles. When my husband and I looked at the vehicle on Saturday, we were not able to test drive it because there was a minor transmission fix being done on it. In our error, we never even thought to look at the odometer when we looked at it back in the shop. I completely understand that there will be a mileage difference from the time a vehicle is advertised, to the time it is purchased (due to test driving, maintenance, etc.), however, approximately 3000 extra miles seems a little odd to me. Overall, we were very pleased with the service Darren and his team provided. I would definitely recommend anyone who is looking for a quality vehicle at a very competitive price to consider Nelson Auto.

I normally despise car shopping as it always has been in the past a hassle and I have never had much luck with the sales agent taking me serious being a female. This was not the case at Nelson! Travis was amazing and straight forward. I knew what I wanted and had done my research and he respected that and I didn’t feel pressured at all! My husband and I both felt the financing went smoothly and was very hassle free which was also a first for us!Nelson truly means it when they say they take care of their customers. Called about a specific new vehicle I was interested in on Thursday to see if it was available and talked to Aaron. I let him know I wouldnt be able to drive the 3 1/2 hours until Monday morning and asked him to let me know if it was still available at close on Saturday. Aaron called on Friday and Saturday to let me know it hadnt been sold. I told him I would be leaving on Monday morning and he said he would call me when the dealership opened. He called at 8:20 and said the vehicle would be ready when I arrived. When I arrived they paged Aaron to let him know I was there. I waited 30 minutes with no updates. At that point someone approached me and said there had been miscommunication and the vehicle had been sold. He did not introduce himself, apologize or take accountability for what had happened. I asked to speak with Aaron and he stated, Im Aaron. Very Disappointed. Wasted a day of my life.

My experience with an oil change was.... interesting. I brought in my own lucas products. One of them (stop leak) was to top off power steering fluid if needed. They claim to have added the entire bottle. If they did, they overfilled to overflowing. I just checked it a couple days ago and it was full. Im guessing that the product was not used and it was a case of miscommunication between technicians. It would have been fine to tell me that rather than claim they added the entire bottle. Ill check it when I get home and siphon out if I need to... but Im guessing that my product is on their shelf. Lol

Very unprofessional, bad business practice! Found a vehicle advertised by Nelson Auto Center on Auto Trader. Contacted the sales person, Brian Beck, by email to clarify details. He confirmed - it is a vehicle in a beautiful condition as described on the net and shown on the pictures. Drove all the way from Twin Cities to find out that the car has a non-working A/C and the dealer will not fix it, front grille is badly damaged, there are no flying boards to assist you to get into the F-250... How beautiful is all that?? Another truck we talked about is damaged on the right in front and it is not mechanically sound at all. Again, the dealer will not fix that. Will never recommend this center to anyone.

If I could give them 0 stars I would. From reading other reviews and looking around there seems to be a theme of them clearing check engine codes before the sale. That must be what their pre-sale inspection consists of. The (Free) warranty and gap coverage that come with the sale are a joke, be sure to look closely at the fine print. Borderline scam artists disguised as a car dealership. While realizing honesty is something one does not expect to find at a car dealership in seems to be in even shorter supply here than other dealerships.

I enjoyed purchasing a vehicle from these folks. My sales rep was extremely helpful and went out of his way to get me pics and what not since I live 5 hours from the dealership.The warranty is kind of a joke, but hey, at least its there. I was extremely upset with one thing though, the check engine light was never on when I traveled to test drive the vehicle. Then when I went to purchase it no light was still on. 20 miles away from the dealership the light comes on. Well just a simple exhaust sensor is all it was, but that doesnt change the fact that I cleared the code at the local autozone. So my guess is that the dealership cleared the codes before. Would have been nice to know of such a simple thing instead of possibly hiding it. Mind you Im assuming here thats what they did as the light does not come on and off, once cleared it stays off for a few hours then turns back on.Also the finance guy I worked with was nice but made some offensive racial jokes. I am half Persian and he saw that on my drivers license and made he a couple remarks about it. I let it go, but still not completely professional.Anyways if I did have a car to buy I would recommend these guys, I dont think I would go way out of my way to buy from them, but the price was right and they had what I was looking for.

Do not EVER, EVER, EVER buy a car here! 1st, my son bought a used car and we understand that. We bought it from a dealer because we felt that it would be more Reliable, they sold us on there big 120 point inspection. Within 24 hours it needed a $500 repair, on something that should have been caught in an inspection and the repair shop said that none on the fluids had even been filled. They did pay for the $500 repair, so we would come back in the future. 1 week later $460 for 1 more repair + $100 to replace the battery, 1 1/2 weeks after that $2600 repair. All this in less then a month, on a car that had a big 120 point inspection, when we talked to them they said all their big 120 point inspection REALLY DOES is make sure that it meets the saftey requirements to SELL. If you need to buy a used car, PLEASE look ELSEWHERE unless you want to feel like you have been taken advantage of by a used car salesmens sales pitch!

Couple weeks ago, I was in Fergus falls for Dr. appointment and I decided to get an oil change at Nelson auto center and the tech found nail & screws on my tires in the process. I asked them to repair both tires and 10 minutes later they told me my car was fixed and ready. I pay my fee and head back home. Next day, I noticed the low-pressure light on, didnt think of much so I go to gas station and put air in and hours later same low-pressure light on so I called the Nelson auto center and told them whats happening and they told me someone gets back to me soon. That was last Monday still waiting for their call. If youre thinking be coming a future customer there, I wont recommend, as they are dishonest and not trustworthy.

During break we brought our truck into Nelsons for a diagnosis. Dropped it off at 1pm and they said we would hear back before end of day. Not even 30min later we got a call that it was done and our traction control was fixed..... uh? We had no issues with that? Shawn argues with the lady for 5min that, that is NOT our vehicle she is talking about. She finally agrees. About 2 hrs later we get a call saying our timing chain is broke and it would be about 3k to fix, but that they could find us a used engine for under 1k and so a used engine would be the same price to throw in. We go, alright let us know. Get a call about 30min later quoting us 4800 for the used engine and 8500 total to do. Wait....... thats entirely different. So we are bumming hardcore. Shawn asks what we could get for trade in. They said a sales person will call you soon. Thats at 3pm. Well its now 630pm. Shawn calls and they tell us sales have left for the day and they are closed the 4th and will call us friday morning. Ihm excise me....So our truck is stuck there. Friday morning rolls around. No call. Shawn calls about 930am, asking whats going on, they have NO idea.... guy goes (derek I believe) Ill call you in 10-20min and let you know. Well shawn and I packed the kids up, drive the 45min to Fergus falls and STILL NO CALL. Walk in, they cant find out paperwork, have NO clue what truck we are talking about.... finally they find it and at this point we said we are pulling the vehicle and leaving, we are just over it. So while they are getting our paperwork to the front desk, sales comes out and goes we can bring it to auction and give you what we make at auction on it.... Im not stupid dude, how about you offer us something and you can take it to auction. No thanks. Bye.So we pay for the diagnosis. Lisa the only lady who is apologizing for whats happened, tell us she doesnt know who dropped the ball. all the while the front desk lady hands us the key. Shawn goes, well where is the truck. The front desk goes, in the lot..... uhm where in the lot? She shrugged. So we had to drive around looking for the truck which was in the back of the lot. They didnt offer to grab it for us or maybe even wash it for the hassles. Well, shawn and I have called several places, all telling us that it can probably be fixed without putting a used engine in. So today the saga continues. Shawn gets a call from a 3rd party asking us our experience. We tell her and she goes woah woah wait.... you truck isnt there? We go, no....? She tells us the paperwork she got today on her desk shows our truck is not only still there but have the engine replaced!! She couldnt believe, we couldnt believe it. And Im honestly astounded that this place is still in business. We gave them several chances to do something right.... and nothing. And even after we came in, the fact that ALL this happened and they couldnt even drive the vehicle up, or even just tell us where is was in the lot is frustrating. We will never do business there again. Never recomend anyone. And really hope people are cautious who still use them.

Was not impressed with this dealership. They had great vehicles to choose from, but the service was very poor. One example of this was I tried to negotiate for them to fill up the gas tank after I purchased my new car and was unsuccessful. I drove the car off the lot with less than a quarter tank of gas. I will not recommend this dealership.

Horrible service, horrible communication, wont return phone calls in a timely manner. I had a Ford transmission put in at another location in Minneapolis and had a 3 year manufactures warranty that came with it. I only drove my truck 300 miles before the transmission failed. The exit is Fergus Falls is where my truck died. I had my truck towed to this dealership for them to look at it. It took a whole week before they would look at it. Kevin in the Ford department was especially bad at returning calls. They ended up refusing to honor the warranty that came with the Ford part and the truck had to get towed to the Minneapolis area to be fixed. This took two weeks for them to figure out and I was stuck without my work truck the whole time.

I was returning from Fargo to St. Paul with my son around 5:30pm when my 12 year old Saturn VUE gave up the ghost - my long suffering CVT transmission finally gave out after 203,000 miles. I managed to get off of the freeway at the Fergus Falls exit. I searched my phone for auto service and found Nelson Auto Center. They connected me to a local towing service (Beyer Body Shop Towing - who promptly and professionally towed me to the Nelson service and repair garage - kudos to them too.). I had been passively shopping for a Ford Escape over the last 6 months anticipating this moment. As luck would have it, Nelson Auto Center is a Ford dealer (in addition to other makes). I assumed that my Saturn would cost more to repair than it was worth so I needed to figure out a way to get home to St. Paul. I decided to check their inventory of slightly used Escapes and found one that fit my criteria. Even though it was getting late in the day, Travis Hopkins met me with a courteous smile and asked if he could help. I explained that I hadnt planned on buying a car that day but my situation put me in a position to consider buying one. I essentially gave up all of my negotiating leverage yet I felt that I was still being treated fairly and honestly. I test drove the Escape (even though I had test driving one several months prior). I decided I wanted to purchase the vehicle. Travis was open and honest about the price they needed for the vehicle. He and his team also gave me a little bit of $ on my trade-in vehicle that had been towed. I inquired about the ability to finance a portion of the vehicle. Elliot Thompson helped me through that. By now it was after 8pm. Travis and Elliot were patient and understanding and supportive throughout the process. They also talked me through the follow up steps of licensing and payments in clear and supportive manner. I honestly had never heard of Nelson prior to that day, but I will not forget them any time soon. I really dread purchasing vehicles, but they made it easy and convenient. Thank you (oh - and I love the Escape)! I have no buyers remorse.

I live in Watford City, ND and was able to trade in my 2WD, 2015 Dodge Ram for a brand new Ford F-150 4X4--with the whole deal being completed over the phone, with Internet Sales Manager, Taylor Haggstrom and Salesman Dwayne Marudas. I shopped at many dealerships locally, but for what I was looking for, this dealership had the best price, the lowest interest rate and the right monthly payment for me. This is by far my best car buying experience ever! I thought I was going to have to drive to their dealership in order to accomplish the trade-in of my vehicle, but Dwayne was good enough even to deliver my new truck to my door free of charge, and then take my trade-in back with their driver, Ray. I really cant say enough good things about Nelson Auto Center in Fergus Falls, MN!

I live 3 hrs away, I called them telling them I really like one of the car in their lot and want to buy it. I called them the next day to let them know that I went to the bank and got approved for a loan and already ask for a day off to go buy the car. Bought a GMC Yukon and thoight was awesome but it was a lemondid nothing but throw money into vehicle had a manager reply to a review and then never get back to me when i emailed himupdate to the lemon i bought here transfer case burned out less then a year after buying metal shards and chunks came out and i never even used the 4x4 in it and GM dealer i took to to get fixed said oil in transfer case was very old and said no way they checked it so DO NOT buy here unless its fully inspected and i called them on it and they played the game of well we will give you fair market value what a joke

Buyer beware if you are going to buy do your own shopping for financing they push you to use Chrysler financing the worse thing we ever done they are twice as high on interest went to pay off and over night payment shows they got it 2 weeks go buy still Chrysler doesnt show they have it called them no havent got it got notice my payment due in 2 days called again no not there they had me calling my bank calling the post office back and forth with them when asked about late payment fee the assured me i wont have one hrs on phone lots of stress late that night they process the payment and clear loan 100 percent not even waiting for check to clear a month and still fighting for lien release calling everyday and everyday a different story I would walk before I let the car lot push me into financing with Chrystal capital every again still fight for lien release safe the stress the headache the time run

I recently traded vehicles at Nelson Auto Center. Brian Quernemoen handled the transaction. I found Brian to be a knowledgeable and professional sales person.The entire experience went smooth and quickly. The new Nelson facility is very nice.The 2014 Sierra 1500 is impressive to date. I have driven 13 Ford trucks and one Toyota truck since 1999 and am glad to be back in a GMC and I am anxious to see how the GMC performs.

We Purchased two vehicles from Nelson AutoBack in December. After reading many reviews we felt that this would be a great dealership to get a vehicle from so I went in with my kids thinking this would be a quick ordeal only to sit there all day waiting for them to get the sale complete. The sales guy and I had worked out a deal that consisted of a down payment, a set monthly amount and most importantly a warranty since both vehicles were used. So we finally after being there for 7 hours completed the deal and when my wife and I went to sign the paperwork the numbers were NOT what we agreed upon with the salesman and more importantly there was going to be no warranty! So after speaking with the manager who closed the deal we told him this was not what we agreed upon with the salesman and inquired about an extended warranty and it waa going to run us 200$ more per month so we were going to just leave but then they gave us a limited warranty so we agreed upon that. After having the vehicle for about a week I noticed the oil pressure was dropping and one day after coming home from work it completely bottomed out and I received a warning light to shut the vehicle off immediately! So I brought it in they had it for about a week and told me it was ready so I picked it up and on the way home the same thing happened so I turned around and dropped it off again. So After leaving it there they looked at it gave me a loaner car(which I appreciated) and said they would have there gnc guy look at it and get back to me. About a week later I still had not received a call so I went in there and spoke with one of their managers and he pulled me into the office and basically told me they didnt want to keep throwing money at it thinking they may have to replace the engine because they were having a difficult time figuring out what was wrong with the vehicle. They ended up replacing some gaskets and the oil sending unit along with the suspension also had issues that they repaired as well. A week after I got the truck back we noticed it was leaking coolant and transmission fluid so after speaking with the mechanic at Nelson he told me to take it to the nearest mechanic and it turned out the water pump and a transmission line were bad so they had to replace those. After getting the truck back I noticed a week later that I was still leaking coolant so I took it to my mechanic and then had to replace the radiator! They say they do a 72 point inspection on all there vehicles I dont see how there is any way that all these things couldve been missed! The other vehicle we got from them I noticed always leaked some oil by the rear axle turned out that needed a rear seal. I also noticed that there was some rust on the rocker panels so I went to sand it off so i could paint them only to find out THE RUST IS ALL THE WAY THRU!!!! You gotta be kidding me they made out good on my trade ins, only to sell me some junk in return. Several times I tried to get in touch with the General Manager Alex Nelson but he never returned my call. I cannot recommend purchasing a vehicle from Nelson after our experience with our vehicles.# Alex,Dont bother leaving me a message to call you back I already attempted to contact you via email as well as calling there You can look up my file and call me, our salesman was Brian Q.

BAIT AND SWITCH!I spoke to a sales rep twice on the phone to confirm the features on a van. It was simple what I wanted. He confirmed that the van had everything that I wanted. It was a 5 hour round trip there. I arrived to find the van only had 1 feature I was looking for. The only vans that have the features I want are $9-10,000.00 MORE than our price range. The sales rep that said well you can upgrade to a different van or just buy a TOMTOM and Im sure you can add motors to the doors...and made me feel that it was going to be able to fix up the van by adding simple things. He blatantly LIED about it having bluetooth (which I didnt find out about until the ride home). In the finance office, since I was in tears, they said you can just walk away KNOWING that I had to have a van THAT DAY. They knew I couldnt walk out of there without one for my Autistic child. The manager then had the audacity to say accusing them of bait and switch was insulting. No. Insulting was having some random sales guy from their office call me 2 days later trying to sell me this new awesome SUV we just got in (ie MY SUV that I traded in) for $6,000.00 MORE than what I got trade in for it). THEY ARE AWFUL!

We bought our 2006 Mercury Montego from Trevor Funkhouser. We were in St. Cloud, MN for a funeral and decided to shop for a car while we were there and were looking at a 2010 Ford Taurus at another dealer. We called Trevor to find out what he had on the lot. He told us about the Mercury Montego and we bought it from him on his word that it was the perfect car for us with everything we were looking for. It is perfect, in awesome condition, the color I wanted, and almost all the options that the Ford Taurus had.We work in North Dakota in the oil fields and had to go back to work before we could even see the car. I couldnt believe it when Trevor agreed to drive the car and meet us 1/2 way in Jamestown - talk about customer service!!!!The car is absolutely beautiful and I am thrilled. Thank you Trevor for taking care of us.

Not very happy with the service from this dealership. My brother purchased a vehicle here and also had my vehicle worked on. I have a cadillac and wish i would have went to a chevy cadillac dealer, but we decided to just get everything that needed to be done at nelson because they did my oil change and spark plugs while we were car shopping for him that day. We scheduled a appt 2 days later for them to see what needed to be done to the car because the abs light engine light and traction control lights had been on, also we ordered all brand new tires. They took my car in friday and called and said they needed to order the part and tires. I told them what size tire i needed ordered since i had temp. Tires on the front which were a little smaller size, but the back tires were the right size. So i told them it was fine for them to keep over the wknd till monday when it was suppose to be done. I get a call monday and the tires werent delivered yet so they said tuesday it will be done. Tuesday i get a call my car was done everything went great but that the engine light is still on there and that was because the timing chain is going out which could run upwards of 3, 500. I was so angry! They never even told us that until they had fixed everything that we thought was wrong! They read all these codes at the same time and failed to tell us this. Well after i get home i looked over the receipts and see that they ordered the wrong size tires for my car and also charged for alignment ... On top of that they never cleared the information panel that reads what needs to be fixed. I called right away but they were closed so i emailed them. They apologized and told me to come in they had the tire size i needed. Like wow! Your a dealership you should have checked and made sure everything was right. They couldnt clear my info panel cause theyre gm guy wasnt there and to come in diff day. Cheryl was pleasant and very nice she apologized for all the mistakes that were made which i appreciated. However my brother and i are extremley disappointed with the whole experience we really felt bad for the terrible service. There was no concern for the quality of work they did it seemed rushed and obviously careless. Would not recommend getting work done on your vehicle at nelson auto center.

We had bought a 2015 Ford Escape from Nelson on 2/6/16. Matt Holmquist, our salesman was a pleasure to work with. He was very timely in communicating through emails as I had requested. We live about 90 minutes away and I wasnt interested in driving there multiple times to get a deal done. Matt found a vehicle with the low miles and fair price we were interested in buying. I would buy another vehicle from Matt without thought.However, I do need to add a negative experience with the paper work portion of the purchase. To close the deal we sat down with Finance Director AJ Ridgway. Mr. Ridgway was friendly at first, but quickly launched into the pitch to purchase an extended warranty. I informed him I had no interest in buying such a warranty, just like is advised by most any unbiased source you can find. Mr. Ridgway continued on the sales pitch, attempting to fear us into buying such a contract. He told us how expensive it could be to replace one of the computers in the care ($5000 or more) and that only a certified Ford master mechanic would replace such a computer. Mr. Ridgway continued that since Nelsons certified Ford Master mechanics receive 2-3 months of training a year in out of town classes, our car could be sitting on their lot for 60-90 days waiting to receive service. If we were to buy the extended warranty, wed receive a free loaner for that period of time. Mr. Ridgway told us several times this warranty would be bumper to bumper, top to bottom...all inclusive. When we pushed him on that fact he acknowledged that wasnt true, that were multiple items that wouldnt be covered due to normal wear and tear. At no time did Mr. Ridgway present us with a flyer or pamphlet describing what was and was not covered by this extended warranty he desperately wanted us to purchase. It appeared we had personally insulted him by choosing not to purchase an extended warranty. He went from being friendly and smiling to being quiet and uncommunicative. He did not smile upon my writing the dealership a check for nearly $22,000.All said, Ill happily buy another car from Matt Holmquist. If I am turned over to Mr. Ridgway to complete the deal I will ask to work with another person. Mr. Ridgways behavior nearly lost the sale. My wife and I were very close to just walking out of his office and the dealership. In hindsight, we should have asked to talk with his supervisor. We wish we had done so.We rate Nelson Auto Center with 3 stars, but it would have been 5 if not for our unpleasant experience with Mr. Ridgway.
