This is a very nice shop! I didn’t take any pictures of the shop, because I was limited to half an hour to complete my shopping, due to Covid-19. They did call me ahead of time to see what I was looking for, that helped me tremendously to be able to have a somewhat less frantic experience. I look forward to returning to this shop when restrictions are lifted, because this shop deserves more than half an hour to be able to fully take it in!Caveat- I do not know if everyone receives a call ahead of time, or if it was just me, because I initially tried to book an hour appointment. If this is your first visit, I highly recommend visiting their website and narrowing down what you are looking for, because half an hour goes so fast!
I didnt get a chance to schedule an appointment to shop in person while I was in Flagstaff due to staying at a hotel on a steep hill with an infant and no car, but because the owner is still being careful about the pandemic, I wanted to get a skein of yarn from them. I received the skein I ordered quite promptly and my receipt was included with my yarn. If Im in town after the pandemics over, I look forward to stopping in and checking them out in person.
Unbelievable! My mom had $200 in gift certificates for this shop from birthdays/Christmas gifts. Shes been a loyal customer for many years. Because of Covid she wasnt going out at all. Now that things are safer, she took her certificates to the store and the owner wont honor them. They are over a year old, therefore they are expired. SERIOUSLY?!? Not a penny. Maybe 50% could be reasonable? That would at least cover the owners cost for whatever my mom purchased with the certificates.
Learning to knit online, and the staff was so patient and helpful. Lost some important people to COVID this year so yarn work has been healing. I got an appointment without any hassle and loved the one on one attention. They are serious about keeping people safe. Seems to be their number one priority vs just making an easy sale. I recommend shopping here without reservation.
Purl in the Pines is the place to go if you are new to the craft or well seasoned! Thank you Michele for creating such a fun, welcoming, and safe environment for me to explore and expand my skills. Might I add....great social media presence! I have been following you on Instagram and really love your content. Thank you for offering your gift to the community.
Excellent selection of yarns and patterns. Large selection of local yarns. The staff is extremely nice and helpful. There is also a clearance section in the back right corner of the store. Make sure to leave yourself plenty of time to look at everything. There are also handmade glass buttons, buttons, shawl pins and stitch markers available. Dont forget to ask about the rewards program.
I could have stayed there for hours. I couldnt because I has people waiting for me in the car. The owner was super helpful and friendly. She answered all my questions as a novice knitter and intermediate crocheted. She gave me her name but I cant remember (my sincerest apologies) because I was so focused on all the items in the store. She also offers those stubs that she clips for every $25 you spend. Once you reach 10, you get 10% off purchase. I got 7 on that one visit alone, so you can imagine all the possibilities on your visit.
Friendly, fairly priced, good selection. Happy to support this local small business!
Clean store, nice selection of yarn organized well. Call first for an appointment and be prepared to be followed around the store. I’ve been here twice—pre-COVD and now—and had the same uncomfortable experience.
The owner is very rude. Lost my business because shes living in fear because of all this vivid nonsense. Very restricted experience. Too bad theyre pushing away customers.
The owner and staff are kind and helpful, the selection is delightful: both indie dyers, brands (including hard to get colorways!) And a variety of spinning fibers, books and magazines.
I love, love, love this store and the wonderful friends working there. The store is well organized and the yarns are beautiful. Although I would classify my knitting as intermediate, I frequently make mistakes. Susan and Michelle can fix anything and are so knowledgeable. I’ve signed up for individual classes and also Susan’s knitting clubs and have learned so much! Thanks Purl in the Pines!!!
Lovely yarns always. I did not know that you can purchase by appointment only.
I went out of my way to stop here and support a local small business. My daughter has a new found knitting obsession and we needed a restock of various colored yarns. Unfortunately this shop was a waste of my time! The owner needs to update her hours- it said open but when we arrived the door was locked and she looked me in the eye and ignored me. I called, she answered and told me that she only takes appts that ended for the day 10 mins ago. No one was in the shop. She lost our business and I hope others’. Rude!
Knowledgeable, friendly, helpful staff. Knew the products available in the store & assisted me in finding what I needed quickly & made my shopping experience pleasant. The store is clean & well organized with a nicely open floor plan maximizing visibility of all products. Lots of lovely store samples knitted up in a wide varieties of yarnsA wide range of yarns available including a lovely line by a local dyer & mammy of my favorites. Good selection of needles & notions.I will make this a stop anytime I drive through Flagstaff.
Great local yarn shop in Flagstaff. Most yarns have a knit example to help you see the colors and drape. Very friendly atmosphere too.
Wish they were open past 2pm on a Saturday. On our way from Phoenix to Denver. I might have spent some money there.

The store is chock full of beautiful yarns. There are many local yarns as well as some of the “big ones.” There’s a cute dog, Cora, who will assist you with your choices. And there are books and magazines galore. It’s a wonderful place to spend some time. Don’t miss it when you’re in Flagstaff.
Very nice and helpful people working here. I went on vacation and forget to bring yarn for a second project and they were a great find. I hope to stop in next time Im going through Flagstaff.
Took a day trip to Sedona and Flagstaff having my on mini yarn crawl. Lovely big store w/tons of fiber, supplies and equipment for spinning, knitting or crocheting and weaving. Great selection of yarns. If you cant find what you want there, it may not be made! Worth the drive.
Best yarn shop in Arizona! This place is worth the trip if you arent fortunate enough to live in Flagstaff. LOTS and LOTS of excellent yarn in LOTS of colors, weights and fibers, LOTS of books, NEW cutting-edge patterns as well as old favorites, EXCELLENT selection of needle brands and other knitting tools, lovely little gift items for your favorite fiber-lover, fiber for spinning, yarn for weaving. There is just too much for me to list. Lets just say Purl in the Pines gets an A+.
