Went to buy a new guitar from this shop and had a great experience . Owner was super kind and even knocked off a few bucks on my purchase. He also has a dog and a cat who are both extremely sweet. I’ll definitely be back again!!
I brought in my acoustic guitar, which had a large and growing crack in its top edge. I thought it was irreparable, to be honest. Danche repaired it and now it’s like new. It’s hard to tell it was ever damaged. Real craftsmanship!
Owner is knowledgeable and I was greeted at the door by a friendly golden retriever as well
So I just had Danche Guitar do some fretwork on an old 95 Epiphone Les Paul that Ive had since high school and through the early aughts, which I still love. (This was one of the Japanese-Made Fuji-Gen era Epiphones, which were notably awesome for tone, sustain, resonance, etc...) In any case, I had almost given this guitar up for dead because I had used super heavy gauge strings on it as a drop-down rhythm guitarist for a prog/metal band for so long that the frets were all but completely dead and I wasnt sure if it was time to retire this guitar, give it to my nine year old son, or try to refurbish it myself, but I took it to Ted, and he somehow levelled and crowned the frets to such perfection that the neck looks almost new, there is no sign of buzzing anywhere, and the tone/sustain is like it was it 1998. Im really pleased that he was able to resurrect this guitar for me so I just thought Id share the message. Real attention and craftsmanship here. Danche Guitar Co. is highly recommended.
Brought in a 57 Gretsch that needed a skilled craftsman to do some work on. I didnt want to leave her with a weekend amateur, so after asking around, I took her to Danche. I expected her to be in the shop for a week or two, but she was ready to go in 3 business days. She now plays better than she ever has before (or at least while Ive had her). Friendly older guy behind the counter, and a cool dog/cat hanging around the store. Definitely will bring more gear here in the future.
Great customer service! Very good craftsmanship...
Versatile luthier who employs guitar teachers for lessons, has a modest collection of string Instruments for sale, along with their periphery items... all patrolled by an adorable golden Labrador retriever.
What he lacks in person to person customer service skills, he makes up for with quality work. this man can bring dead guitars back to life. he can fix ANY stringed instrument.prices reasonable to high, but worth it.friendly and cute dog too!
Danche is old school but he is a true artist and Master Craftsman. He understands musicians and how important their instrument is to them. He can fix almost anything with strings and wood, and turns repairs around in record time. His shoppe has a nice selection of guitars, amps and other related gear and you can take guitar and eukelele lessons here too. Every time I go in I am greeted by his golden retriever and some days his cat makes an appearance too. All in all Danche is cool, so be cool while youre at Danche.
Dunche did excellent job restoring my vintage 1960 fender stratocaster. I highly recommend this shop to anyone who needs restoration work. The sound was stunning, effortless tone, sustain without any need for tone adjustment, it simply sounded blinding and immediately harking back to those great clean chord tones of Hendrix we all wonder about. I’m proud of the quality of my work and it’s the greatest reward to rescue and unleash a tone of something so beautiful, a truly moving experience!
This was just a tragic experience... The gentleman was very nice and said my guitar would be ready by Saturday/Sunday. I said Id love it if it were ready on Saturday because I was singing kids songs in the morning Sunday. Im sure it WAS ready Saturday, but unfortunately the woman responsible for calling me did not do so correctly, as I received no message or missed calls. When I checked in on Wednesday, the woman over the phone said that she did call me and that I didnt check my messages. I informed her that I did check, but there was no message. Rather than apologizing or taking responsibility for misdialing or simply forgetting, she responded annoyed, check again, because I did call and you do have a message. I hung up and went ahead to check all of my missed calls and messages... Nothing. When I arrived shortly after in the store, there was no mention of it and no attempt at responsibility. My kids enjoyed the friendly dog and my guitar is fixed by the nice gentlemen. Unfortunately, I wont be coming back to this store because the woman was unnecessarily condescending and stubborn.
Brought my #1 in to be looked at by a professional, which in the ten years of owning the 78 Les Paul Custom has never been done before. I just returned the guitar to being 100% original parts (T-Top Pickups) so the timing was right. Frets were in awful shape as well.Heres the breakdown: Fret crowning and polishing, fret-board polishing, full set-up, and a polishing of the nitrocellulose finish.Outstanding work with the frets and set-up, the low action and 10 gauge strings made the guitar sound like a Gibson again! The ebony wood fret-board has never felt so playable.A professional job done by a real professional.
Absolute master, whatever stringed comes to his store will sounds much much better. Everyone has to finish phone conversation before entering music store. There is much more important to listen to the music than somebodys loud phone conversation. Conclusion, great service at modest price, and always you got some great free advice.
I went to this to buy an e string. and I had an Ernie Ball string that did not need. so I asked guy if I could trade him my Ernie Ball number 26 string. for his Dean Markley number 11 String he told me no those strings dont break. If he is going to string your guitar with cheap strings just to get you to come back I wont come back. I dont care how good you fix guitars ........
The owner acts like hes doing you a favor talking to you like youre an idiot. Dont be fooled into thinking he must know his stuff. There are plenty of better, cheaper and nicer techs available at most any Guitar Center. Waste of money and time.
Danché is clearly an expert and knows what hes doing. Service-wise, I was helped immediately, and I got a prompt response very soon after I dropped off the instrument. If you want anything from basic repairs to high-level work, Im betting hes your guy. Also, dont be afraid to bring in stringed instruments other than guitars. Banjos, ukeleles, mandolins, I believe he can work with all of them.
The man that runs this store is incredibly rude. I went in there on the phone with my fiance because I was planning on getting her a guitar possibly and I enjoy helping local businesses and he came up to me saying oh you just gonna finish your call in here? and I replied with well Im on the phone and looking at guitars and thinking about maybe getting one and he then said how would I like it if he came in my HOME and finished a call and I honestly was so taken aback by how absolutely rude and disrespectful he was being to me as someone who literally just said I was looking into buying a guitar and wasnt being in any way loud or disruptive on my phone. I came back during one of my breaks because I work across the street from him and I said how I didnt appreciate how rude he was being to me over being on the phone and he went on a whole tirade about how it was disrespectful to be on the phone in his store...not even being loud on the phone in his store...he said it was disrespectful to just be ON THE PHONE in his store. I told him how ridiculous that was that no other store on this street cares about you being on the phone some even let you bring your dog into the store. He had no signs posted that said anything about not being on your phone in the store and was BEYOND rude and I will never give him any business again and encourage everyone who reads this to not give him business either.
I paid $65 to have a brand new Squire Telecaster set up. This is a fair price and he did a great job. It was ready when he said it would be.
Danche installed few pickups on my expansive classical guitars and did a great job!
Paid $250 to have a guitar (worth maybe $200?) cleaned and set up. 3 way toggle switch was broken and tuner bushings were falling out. Got guitar back (paid my $250), the toggle switch wasnt fixed, the switch arms were basically bent around until it barely held the selector switch in place, it broke again the next day so I just ordered a new one and fixed it myself. there were untaped and unsoldered areas in the pots that were not fixed. They used the wrong style bushings on the headstock tuners so I removed them and put in my own. The nickel plating on the hardware was cleaned, so that was nice (the only nice thing I can say about this experience). So i basically spent $250 on a action setup and the action wasnt even bad to begin with! I got totally ripped off and will never use this shop again. Flushed $250 down the toilet.
Best guitar store, awesome selection!! Very nice and helpful staff
Cant rate the store because I couldnt get in. My friend had late bday plans and wanted to get him a present so I wanted to come here. Got here at 6:20 and the door was locked. Drove back past it and saw the guy so bennifit of the doubt he went to the bathroom but no sign or anything. Very frustrating.
Probably best luthier in the Chi city area, maybe the whole state.
The old duffer who was there when I went in was fun to interact with. Ive been playing guitar off and on for about 25 years or so, and have decent familiarity with guitars, guitar stores, guitar techs, luthiers, etc. He seems to know his stuff well enough. During my visit he was working on a stringed instrument I didnt recognize - maybe a bouzouki. He said hes thinking of cutting back on store hours because he has too much work! Some of the other reviews for this store really make me laugh - especially the one by the simpering douche with the phone, and the follow up screed written by his mommy. This countrys culture is swirling down the toilet, as exemplified by this family. I like this stores proprieter EVEN MORE after reading their reviews. Heres an old guy who has learned an exquisite craft over a lifetime, being subjected to a post/millenial post-conceptual walking talking Lord Fauntleroy who cant metabolize criticism. Kid, your business belongs at Guitar Center, where the salesman with the faux hawk will flatter you.
My son walked into Danche Guitars onMadison street today and was berated by the owner for coming into the store and looking around at the guitars while being on the phone. He was incredibly rude to him at one point asking him if he was carrying a gun-1. On a very basic level treating the people coming into your store with respect and kindness EVEN if they are not living up to your standards of politeness is a given. Every person that walks into your shop is someone there who could have gone to a million other places- but they walked into your store. And they may never buy anything there- but just like my mom always said you never know who youre talking to- there was no way Danche would have known that he was yelling at one of his customers children. Ive purchased repairs and and other accessories from Danche before.2. I bet my son will never walk into a store on the phone again- (which i cant say Im not glad about) and hes learned that lesson and will have better manners next time. But Im VERY disappointed in how this interaction went down and wish at the least an elder member of society could have taken this moment to politely teach a young man a lesson in manners instead of making him feel so unwelcome.3. I never want to blame things on race- If I wasnt there to observe for myself, But I also dont want to be ignorant of the challenges my son - as a mixed race individual- may be up against. I still hope that this wasnt a factor and Danche was just being indiscriminately rude-4. danche mentioned that its all you kids these days that have no respect etc etc. so apparently if race wasnt an issue- discrimination based on age is alive and well.5. He kept likening My sons rudeness for being on the phone to him walking into someones home..... newsflash danche- your public storefront guitar store is not a home. It just isnt. The same rules do not apply in the general population wether you want them to or not.6. I have bought things from Danche before-I had a pleasant experiences there. And the funny thing about it- is I was on the PHONE while I was in there too!! I had a call I had to take. Im having a really hard time seeing what the difference is between me walking in on the phone and my son walking in on a phone call. Except our obvious demographic differences.....I wasnt there- so I cant speak for everything that happened- but I feel like there was definitely a sense that Danche overreacted at the very least. And I was very disappointed to hear my son so upset over how he was treated when he went in to price out and buy his first guitar. Something I wish would have been a good and encouraging experience for him.I will not be buying here in the future unless this is met with a sincere apology.
One of the few classically trained luthiers around.
Incredibley shady people and business practices going on. Avoid this place at all cost.
He is a crook. He stole my guitar. Real jag
This guy is a crook, he stole my guitar.go there at your own risk, you have been warned.
He got some top rated guitars at the store. His price is reasonable.
Been going to Danche for years, amazing work!
I like this place.
Friendliness and good quality.
Very good old man
