Glad theyre open. Checked online at bn.com and they said the item was in stock. Drove the 30 minutes. Theyve changed the interior so had to find the information desk, its moved to the front left of the store, aim for Starbucks. It was Christmas Eve and they were busy but the staff were friendly and helpful. Found what I wanted and checkout was efficient.

3.5 stars.Ive had a mixed experience while shopping here. Some staff were very friendly and professional, others were not. The knockdown of the rating was from a recent, unprofessional experience. I was standing in front of the customer service desk, waiting for someone to be available to help me order something that wasnt in stock. A staff member approached me, asking me if I needed anything. I said, Id like to order something online. I already had two items on hand to purchase, and wanted to take advantage of using my membership to order something in store. The staff member said, Well, if you want to order something online, you can just do it yourself. There was no other customer waiting at the checkout counter nor at the customer service desk, so the staff member had no one else waiting on her. I dont understand her lack of motivation to help or do business with someone who wants to purchase something.

Barns & Noble is a large, clean and well organized bookstore. As part of a national chain it will never have the charm nor neighborly feel of(now almost extinct) local book shops but since the book buying experience is now mostly limited to online, college bookstores or large chain stores, this is as good as I can find.I tried all of my local small bookshops and couldnt find any still open. I tried ordering my book needs online but my chosen vendor let me down. I came here and they had what I was looking for. Had it not been in stock they would have gotten it in for me. It pays to shop locally even if the store is part of a big chain!REMEMBER, keeping retail local benefits the whole community, not just the vendors.

Did this store get a new manager? It used to be great but has turned strange in recent years. A year ago I was looking for a picture book. You walked into the kids section, and BAM--a display of picture books on astrology signs was right in your face. They were the kind of picture books with cardboard pages for very young readers, each named for a different zodiac sign. The display was full--no one had bought any of the books. What young kid can even pronounce Sagittarius, let alone read that word? Why were other books in that section, which were clearly selling better, not prominently displayed? The YA section is consistently full of tarot decks too. Would this branch ever put a Bible or Torah in the YA section? I dont think so. So why is tarot ok? Someone at this store seems to be pushing their beliefs onto children. Also this past Christmas the store at no ornaments. I was told COVID had created an issue with B&Ns supplier and that the store had received no shipments of ornaments. However other bookstores/retailers in the area had plenty a day or three before Christmas. Whats the deal, Framingham B&N???

Its been hard for brick & mortar bookstores to remain competitive against Amazon. B&Ns recent firing of most full-time store employees was a mistake that it seems they are trying to remedy now, almost to a fault. I was asked by three separate employees in the store if I was finding what I was looking for. One of them kindly told me about two visiting authors in the area related to the genre I was browsing, the other two were just seeing if I needed help. I suppose if I looked lost or perplexed that would have been warranted, but I was actively reading through a book each time, with a small pile of books/items that I planned to purchase sitting beside me, so it felt more like an unnecessary interruption than assistance, but at least there are employees willing to help back in the store again! The removal of the New Releases shelf in individual departments is annoying. As far as I can discern, the new arrivals are all lumped together at tables at the front of the store.I do appreciate the gift sections of the store. It makes it easy to use B&N as a gift destination even when you dont have any idea what to purchase for someone... youre almost always likely to find something no matter what the age/interest.

For what it is (A brick and mortar book store) it is a better than average example. I found the ambiance consisting of slightly dimmed lighting and dark wood to fit in nicely with the library aesthetic I feel a bookstore should try and cultivate. The layout is cozy without feeling cramped. There was an excellent selection with many display tables of the I-bet-you-didnt-know-you-wanted-this type. The kids section was bright and easy to browse with many helpful employees about. As for the elephant in the room, every book I had been looking for was significantly more expensive than on Amazon (and sometimes, even more expensive than Barnes and Nobles own online page). A better price matching policy would be worth the extra star. Also, air conditioning was a plus. Also also, they have a Starbucks.

Le
Review №50

I seriously have no idea how B&N is still in business. Their prices have NOTHING to do with reality and they remain so ignorant to the shifting patterns of book sales. Why would anyone pay $20 for a book that costs $10 on Amazon (New) and comes at their door the next day? They won’t even match their own online prices (like seriously???)... which in the current marketplace is pretty much equivalent to signing your own death sentence. I am sorry B&N, but you have 0 chance of survival if you don’t keep pace with the world we live in today and how retail is shifting.

I had a bad experience here. Went to this location on 07/10/2019 to attend a book signing for Mr. Jerry Remy. I showed up an hour and a half before the signing and was told they were out of books to purchase! The manager, a bald headed man didnt seem to apologetic that they were unprepared for the book signing. He simply said this event was short notice...see if you can find a book somewhere to have him sign. Sure, Ill go find a copy of Mr. Remys brand new released book, fight Framingham traffic during rush hour and return in about an hour (which at that point I probably would be turned away due to the line). He didnt seem to care when the person behind me (a lady who came from Western Massachusetts), complained that she was told by someone from Barnes and Noble that there would be enough copies there for people to purchase. Other people strolled in after me only to be told the same song and dance. Had I known beforehand that they would have run out of books an hour and a half before the event I wouldve bought a copy online, however there was no disclaimer on the B&N website before the event to pre-purchase the book. An ordinary and reasonable person would assume there would be enough copies present during a book signing when a person arrives an hour and a half before the event. This is an example of very bad customer service! For B&N to waste my time (as well as other peoples time traveling during rush hour), my fuel, wear & tear on my car for pretty much no reason and not give a hoot about it is why I will never step foot inside a B&N store again, nor shop their website. Minus 10 stars!

A Book Lovers Paradise. It is doing amazingly well in an era when bookstores have been ravaged by online sales. Thats because theres nothing like leafing through a book before you buy it. The store is very large and airy, but it has intimate nooks as well. The selection is great, but they will order any book not on the shelves. Theres a very nice, separated childrens section. Also, if you become a member, you get a discount on all purchases. And bonus - theres an attached cozy cafe where you can chat about books or warm up on a winters day.

I was looking a little ragged that day, not a lot of sleep the night before and walked in a bit disheveled. The staff were rude and when asked for a specific book was told that It (the book) was in that general direction, (with a wave of the hand and no eye contact) ok, so, two weeks later Im clean shaven, dressed nicely and looking like my regular self. Greeted at the door, eye contact made and the same girl took me to where that same book location was in the store. So, you look like money, you get treated like gold star, looking like you rolled out of bed and a little Scrappy, your treated as such. If anyone wants a challenge, do this little experimentation and see what the results may be.

Barnes and Noble is probably responsible for half of all Amazonian rainforest deforestation. They have more books than any library in the world. The selection is insane. Not a bookworm? No problem. Tons of little gadgets and (my reason for going) board games. The only dock here is that its on the pricey side. I saw a wired earphone and USB cable combination package for FIFTY dollars. Books however are always piled high in the clearance section. You cant leave this store without buying something. Its impossible.
