We had the best experience on the Buffalo Trace canoe/kayak trip. We got to ride our kayaks through a lock and dam! Our guide Chris was fantastic, and was very informative on some of the history of the area. He made sure the whole crew was taken care of all afternoon. I’d recommend Canoe Kentucky to anyone looking to do something different and fun!
Its for sure worth spending a day here floating down the gorgeous South Elkhorn! The sheer amount of wild is breathtaking and refreshing. The guides are knowledgeable and friendly, but Im sorry to say that ours didnt mask up while shuttling us to and from the drop-off points, but other than that, it was fantastic.
We did the all day trip and it was amazing. Lou, the bus driver started the day off with the worst dad jokes ❤ and had us all laughing by the time we were at the put in spot. The equipment was in great shape and the staff were super helpful. The creek was at ideal range and so clean! Beautiful area to kayak, we will definitely be back!
Good place to rent canoes and kayaks and for trips on Elkhorn Creek. I was with a group and they took us up creek to a stash of canoes and kayaks. We put in there and had a great trip back to their location. This 3 or 4 mile section of Elkhorn Creek is scenic with some mild rapids that are fun, but not too challenging for novices. Lots of fun.
Canoe Kentucky was great! We did the Elkhorn Creek fun float and it was the perfect length. There were lots of places to pull off and relax along the way. The reservation system made booking and check-in really easy and the staff were all super nice. We will be back for sure. Also, the bus driver was very entertaining with his Dad jokes 😆.
They were most accommodating for any circumstances. We appreciated everything they did and made the overall experience comfortable. Thank you! — Lindsay and Brian
With how much this place charges, they really should be ashamed at how lacking they are in their service and equipment, not to mention the information they provide for your safety. Was never told of the downed tree across the creek that made it nearly impossible to get through, were told conditions were perfect yet we bottomed out on rocks in multiple locations, were told about two forks in the creek yet there were at least 10 you had to guess which way to go, and lastly the final let out is a death trap. Try getting up that steep rocky muddy broken glass filled hill in wet flip flops AND being asked to tow your own kayak up to the top. What a joke! Will never recommend or go here again. Word to the wise…take your money somewhere that deserves it!
Great experience. We had a group of 4, made reservation, each couple was 95.50 after tax. We did the kayak tour. They offer orher kinds, blow up kayaks, Fishing kayaks and canoes. It was very busy. The place is exercising social distancing. It took us about 3.5 hours, we took our time and floated. The water was kinda low, so im small places you might get stuck but we never had to get out and carry the kayak.Definitely recommend for outings.
The river was fun and scenic and the company was very helpful when we had to cancel because they wont let you bring your own canoe or kayaks . A simple process to get you in the water if u rent from them though .
It was amazing. My 2nd time ever kayaking and I will definitely come back
My boyfriend and I had a blast! We used their canoe and we would 100% go back another time. Very friendly staff and beautiful scenery.
My family visited Canoe Kentucky to try on gather I formation and purchase some gear. The pfd selection was good which allowed us to try on several styles. Kali was knowledgeable and kind and very generous with her time; answering questions, teaching us how to fit each vest properly, etc. The shop is clean, organized, and well kept. Even though we aren’t currently in the market for a new boat, their selection was good and we will definitely be back when it’s time for new boats.
Thank you for having an awesome staff! I didnt get everyones name however a huge shout out to Mckenzie & Grace who made this a more wonderful experience! Highly recommend! Organized, professional, friendly, safety oriented and an excellent way to spend part of your day!! Well be back!!
Love it on the creek. Rent a canoe throw a cooler and some fishing gear on it and youre in for a day of fun.
Inagube fokwifng in lmol
Ive been 3 or 4 times now, every ones been slightly different, its a fantastic way to spend a sunny afternoon
We had an interesting excursion and got to see a good bit of wildlife on the creek.
True ambassadors of Elkhorn creek. They loaned our friend a paddle when we forgot one. No charge. Always informative on Facebook and their website.
Excellent place to do business! I went looking to order a Yakima hitch extender. I was even willing to spend more to shop local and found the item was not only in stock, but $12 cheaper than it was on Amazon! I have been a customer of here for several years and always had a good experience.
Exllecet service and services.. my buying experience was top notch. Friendly, curious and great selections of products. I will buy/shop again here supporting this small local business.
Something fun to do with the family or by yourself
Staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. We come here every year for a kayaking trip and are never disappointed!
Loved it!! The people were so nice.. we will defentially be back..
Great place to rent a canoe.
This was so much fun. Its on our list to do every year when we meet up for sisters weekend.
Great trip. Great customer experience.
Very fun. Website was good about explaining water level and setting good expectations. Bus driver was funny and explained everything well. Good covid-19 guidance, we felt safe and responsible with our group. Went to west six farms after which was a very nice combination.
Operation is well run and organized. Enjoyed the float.
Very knowledgable business and willing to take the time to make sure you get what you need.
Great day! Well ran facility!
Wonderful peaceful day beautiful scenery
They have a great setup. I like the fact they have a shuttle bus that takes you up stream then you hop on the canoe and paddle down stream towards your initial location. I liked the fact they have the used paddles in bleach water and the vests they clean after each use. The only inconvenience was the fact the water level in the creek was low. But in some spots up to your belly button. Then again, that is nature, sometimes is nice sometimes not. Still though, my family and I managed to have a great time. We will come back again.
Staff is friendly and helpful, though a bit harried. They are going to make sure you are given the safety lecture and video, no skipping this stuff!I took a canoe on Elkhorn Creek with my chocolate lab. We had a blast! Water level was just barely in the low zone so had to drag a few times. But not much. The canoe Rental is a bit pricey for one person, if there were two in the boat its a good deal. They have kayaks and paddle Boards too.
Great experience! These people really know their stuff and how to run a smooth operation. Fun family outing.
We did the All Day trip on two single kayaks and had a blast. The second half of the trip is less crowded, has more trees and more fun currents than the first half (less crowded because the Fun trip stops halfway). Definitely recommend this creek and will be back!
This is a great way to see the natural waterways Kentucky is becoming known for. The Elkhorn Creek is beautiful and enough flow and little rapids to keep it interesting. Definitely check the flow conditions though. We did a kayak and it got a little shallow even in optimal flow conditions. The people there are great and very helpful. You can literally just show up with nothing and be good to go. We did the full day adventure which took us about 5 hours. That includes a few stops and a lunch break. There are fewer people that do this, so your 2nd half is more secluded. Definitely get reservations and watch for 2 for 1 deals around Christmas! Makes a great gift!
Very fun, canoe down the Kentucky River. It was about a 25 mile trip, and stopped at the River Grill Dockside in Head lunch great trip!
Excellent place to hangout with friends. Friendly service. Good selection of canoes/kayaks. Very accommodating of special requests.
Did the full day trip and then camped at their campground that night. We parked at the campsite then were shuttled to the entry point, our day ended at the campsite so we were able to get a fire going right away and get our tents set up. The only minor complaint is that the water levels were a little low, which I know they cannot control. We will do this trip again with higher water levels.
This place is great
Im a buyer not a renter. When you buy a boat there you get lifetime shuttles on the Elkhorn Creek. The service is friendly and their knowledge of paddling sports is very high. They can accommodate almost anyone at any skill level.
This is the best paddle outfitter in the business, and you cant beat the beauty and fun of Elkhorn Creek. I went twice in the last two weeks with two different sets of my kids, and we had an absolute blast. Thanks #canoeky
Great family run business helping families have great experiences outdoors!
The staff was friendly and very well organized. The kayak trip was fantastic! Sunday very well spent.
If you dont own a canoe or kayak this is the place for you.its a nice price of the Creek. Very peaceful even saw a bald eagle and two deer.i think youll enjoy.and when at certain flood stages even some rapids of class. You should call and see the water levels if your from outta town. I onlly had to get out of canoe once in low water
Great location on the Elkhorn
Awesome place to rent kayaks of canoes from. i have rented, and bought several boats from them. Staff is always great. They stand beside their products. Elk horn creek is a awesome place to go kayaking on. Plenty of fish to catch, or if you just want to relax you can cruise down the creek.
Five stars
Fantastic! Great place to get away to enjoy nature on a beautiful river. Went this past summer and still thinking about our fun trip down this serene river.
Extremely hard working and helpful staff. Nice trip down the Elkhorn.
Awesome experience... Will definitely be back again and again.
Really helpful, friendly staff, and a get nice time on Elkhorn Creek with the family
I did my research on a new Kayak and decided on various reviews and design that I wanted a Bonafide Kayak. Canoe Kentucky was the closest dealer to me from southern Indiana, so I drove an hour and a half to the back woods of Frankfort Kentucky, lol. Let me say I am glad I did. Great people and great customer service. They answered all of my questions and help me pick the perfect Kayak for my needs. I would recommend Canoe Kentucky to anyone. I have been having a great time in my Bonafide! Thanks again!
Weve gone a bunch and always had a blast
Chris & Mia team were awesome. If you want to canoe or kayak but can’t imagine carrying the thing and knowing where to put in and out, this is your trip. Friendly co-paddlers and great equipment. Perfect length of a trip too.
Love it 😊
Really fun time, my wife and I did you fun paddle it lasted a few hours and was a blast we had a great time floating down the elk horn and seeing the beautiful surroundings. The staff was very friendly and pricing was very reasonable. We will definitely be going out again
Good afternoon of fun on the creek. Prices were a little higher than they were in the past. Overall a great weekend activity. I highly recommend it!
The folks there were great. Very patient in explaining things over the phone when we had questions. The kayaks were great (they all have go pro mounts on the front) and the trip was awesome. We will definitely be back.
Canoe Kentucky is the best full-service kayak and canoe service and retail in Kentucky/Indiana.Their stretch of 6 and 12 miles of Elkhorn Creek is a place you will go back to again and again. Its beautiful, super fun and it seems to be new every time the water level changes. They are VERY well equipped for large groups or just a couple people. Its impressive to watch these super nice people organize groups.Great place to start out to buy also, since they will keep you from buying the wrong type of kayak. Ive bought three new kayaks there so far over the past 10 years. They only stock the better-made kayak brands, so if you are ready to step right into a safer, longer lasting, greater performing, better resale kayak, these guys will get you into your best fit.Im posting this glowing review because, frankly, Im very grateful for the workers of Canoe Kentucky for providing so many memorable experiences for me, my close friends, and my kids. Kentucky is blessed to have them. So, if you are thinking you might want to go on the water....take the day off.. grab a friend and GO! You deserve it!!David G.
Great location with a lovely store stocked with supplies. We are avid kayakers but safety video required was great for first timers and the staff was very helpful. Highly recommend.
We have used this company many times and they never disappoint. Super Friendly staff. Keep up the good work guys.
Great day trip canoeing down Elkhorn Creek with the family.
This was by far the most fun I have had on a Kayak trip! We had a group of five with only one of us needing to rent a kayak from them. The rental was $45 and included the life jacket and paddle. The lady at the front desk did a great job of instructing us where we should put in our kayaks and then take out as well as the different location the person who rented would have to take out/put in. She even gave us a small nap with the locations circled on it.The water levels were awesome and water temperature cool from all the rain we have had lately. There are so many places to stop for a swim or picnic and many friendly paddlers floating around to talk to. We will definitely be going back soon! The Canoe KY shop was awesome as well with many things for a kayak or canoe trip available to purchase before heading out.
Rent or buy canoes & kayaks. They take you upstream in a bus & drop you off at the creek access point. You float downstream until you make it back to the Canoe Kentucky building. Its a fun 3 hour float. No private access to the creek AT Canoe Kentucky on the weekends, although I believe they do allow private access on weekdays.
The store was nice and well stocked, employees in the store were great: the ones that drove us to drop off point, not so much. At the end you are asked to drag uour own vessel up a flight of steps. . . Seems weird after paying $60-90 for rental. The kayaks felt cheap. The scenery itself was great! Expect several areas of class 1-2 rapids.
My husband and I own a canoe livery in Ohio. Our plan at the start of our first season was to take our staff to go white water rafting or canoeing at the end of the season as a staff trip using tip money in 2017. We took a toll and asked our team what they would rather do, and they chose to paddle with another canoe livery. Our crew was in awe of the shop at Canoe Kentucky. Their staff was amazing and knowledgeable. Their creek was breathtaking. We are looking forward to another trip down the Elkhorn at the end of our season. We do have a question though, we are looking for a cabin to rent that will sleep 18-20 people, do you all have any suggestions? As always, thanks so much for all you do!
Awesome!
Our first river kayak outing. Very cool even though the staff said the water was a little low. Helpful staff. Don’t miss the “Creek Food” stand across the street for pre- or post-kayak snacks.
Perfect for a leisurely paddle down the Elkhorn. Observe nature as you float back to the rental center. We saw a water snake, frogs, deer, vultures, hawks, and plenty of fish during our travels.
I went there a little too late for a float so the guys in the shop said I can use their ramp to wade in the creek. I didnt come prepared to wade but grabbed a fishing rod and my vest and headed upstream. When I was finished the guys said I could change my clothed in the restroom in the store. I did catch 8 smallmouth bass in the couple of hours I fished. I appreciated the friendliness of the staff and will go back. I was there 9/15/17.
I have been kayaking/canoeing twice with this company. Both times were fun but the second time left me thinking I may never go back.Prior to disembarking on your canoe journey, you are given a safety briefing and an overview of the conditions and how you should proceed in certain parts of the water so as to avoid areas that are rapid or where you might get stuck. We had a very scary few moments on our journey down the creek after following the instructions of the man giving the safety briefing and ending up with all 4 members of our party getting knocked out or our boats due to something that could have been avoided. Everyone ended up okay, and we realized there might be some difficult parts of the trip but what was more offputting was when we got back to the facility and tried to warn the guide that the path he had told us to take was dangerous and maybe he should tell people to go another way, he just completely shrugged it off!Perhaps these people should be more aware of the condition the creek is in when they send people paddling down it.
Great service and fun kayaking.
This place was absolutely amazing. The route was incredible. We separated from the group by hanging back at the beginning of the route, which was well worth it as we got to see incredible wildlife without the noise of 20 other people chatting ahead of us.
Always a great experience dealing with these guys. Good prices, great service and an amazing generosity of spirit and fun. If youre not doing business with Canoe Kentucky, youre missing out.
They charged us $50 to rent a kayak and told us the shorter trip was 6 miles and the longer trip was 12 miles. Thats a moderately priced but not outrageous price for the trek. It took us an hour and a half to complete the shorter trip so we mapped the route and determined the entire course was only 4.5 miles and the shorter trip was not even 4 miles long. So unless you want to pay $33.33 an hour and be lied to, Id go somewhere else. There are many other local places that dont make you pay an outrageous fee and they ensure youre paying for what is advertised. Not friendly and staff and not fair pricing. Also, the 20 minute long video they had us watch was ridiculous.. all of that could be summed up in 5 minutes. Go somewhere else and do not get scammed.
Best experience buying a kayak I have had. Highly recommend checking these people out!
Have been using this company for years. Great service, beginner friendly, great scenery. Love it more and more each time.
We did the KY. River/ Buffalo Trace tour. I feel like the disciption on the site is slightly misleading. It is a lengthy trip time wise but you spend most of your time waiting on and in the lock. Its very short paddle to the lock followed by a long wait on the lock, then another short paddle to the distillery. Then the opposite on the way back. Theres not much actual canoeing, which is a bummer. The website says, We paddle as a group with the guide through Lock and Dam number 4, where you will learn some interesting history about the area. We never got hear this interesting history, we just got a boring wait on the lock. The food was the best part of trip. The barbeque pork was well made along with the sides (baked beans and potatoes). And they give you a little piece of Ruth candy which I thought was a nice touch. The website says something about a special tour of Buffalo Trace in an area normally off limits to tours. Im not sure where that was... Seemed like a pretty standard tour to me... I could be wrong though since this was only my second time at Buffalo Trace.I would describe some of the staff as Bored. There was virtually no instruction or communication once we hit the water, which was a little alarming, being our first time in a canoe. After some trial and error we managed to sort ourselves out. But I did feel like they kept a steady eye on us throughout the whole trip, so if we got into trouble they could sweep in and help. Disembarkation was a bit of cluster. I had no idea of what I was doing and no help. The KY River is very beautiful. I am greatful I got to see and experience something new.
Our Boyscout troop had a blast on Elkhorn Creek !Thank you Canoe Kentucky !Such an awesome and experienced group of people there .
Weve been to Blue River IN a lot but Canoe KY was awesome! Great staff, very knowledgeable. Weve found our new kayaking destination!
A great Kentucky outdoor destination! Professional staff that understands water safety and adventure preparation for all ages. Rental options for long and short trips, including shuttle service for canoe and kayak owners. We saw fish, turtles, hawks and a raccoon!
Absolutely wonderful experience very helpful I will be back again . Customer service is definitely at its best !!
We had so much fun. Professional staff. Thank you!
