Some items are slightly overpriced but I wouldnt go so far as to call the place a tourist trap. Their hats are authentic and diverse selection. Can get crowded if you visit on a weekend. Wish they carried American Hat Co. products.

Very disappointed to find out just how much we overpaid for a hat. They told me it was just the result of Fredericksburg prices. I appreciate their upfront and honest explanation, but the price disparity is outrageous. Ill chalk it up as a lesson learned and shop elsewhere next time.

I moved from NY to Leander, TX. I took a ride to Fredericksburg to spend the day walking up and down Main St. Sure enough I stumble upon this gem. I walked into Headquarters Hats not knowing anything about the hats in the store except for one thing, I wanted to buy and wear a “cowboy” western style hat. I have always bought the NY fitted and beanies and that’s all I pretty much knew about hats. I loved the “cowboy” western style look about the hats but I didn’t know enough about them to build the confidence up and buy one.Not only was The staff was so amazingly helpful and very knowledgeable, but they hustled and moved around the whole store pulling hats from all different places high and low and letting me try them on. At one point there was literally 4 different guys scurrying around the store finding hats for me and seeing how they looked on me as they gave me their opinions. Each one was popping up one by one and giving me a new selection and waited to hear what I thought about it. When I said I didn’t like it they went right back to finding me a new one with a new style or fit.I finally settled on one I loved and they all agreed it was a great choice. This man Robert took his time to explain how to properly store the hat and take care of it so it’s not damage. He mentioned that it should always be taken off at the dinner table because that’s what a gentleman does, but you can wear it when having drinks. I felt so confident with this new hat on my head and I wore it out the store and for the rest of the day. It was also very nice to see the gals giving me double looks as I walked through each store but was a big hit.I will definitely be going back to Headquarters Hats again just because of the service and the quality of the hats. It’s a hour and a half from where I live and I will gladly make the drive to Fredericksburg again many times and always remember to stop by this store and pick up a new hat to add to the collection.

The absolute best customer service I’ve ever encountered ! I’ve worked in retail for a few years and I could’ve never amounted to that most informative and hilarious treatment I had received there. Definitely hats off to the gentleman who made it the best store on that whole street!

Impressive store in a restored building. They still use hand written receipts. There are associates there to direct you and find what you are looking for. Street parking is limited, but around the block is sufficient as everything in downtown Fredericksburg is close and within a short walk.

Great hat company and if they don’t sell it here, you probably won’t find it anywhere. But they sell much more than hats... They have clothing and boots and it’s all reasonably priced. The owner is pretty cool too which makes this place a must visit.

I selected a Stetson I had seen before. After paying for it, staff put it in a plastic bag. I had expected the original box for travel and storage. Such a disappointment. I asked that they report this to their manager, who then stepped forward. He did offer to refund my money.

I was very uncomfortable at this place of business. Even though we are in the middle of a pandemic one of their main employees wasnt wearing a mask and no social distancing. Other people were in the store not wearing masks and no one asked them to put one on. I was ready to spend money on a pair of boots and hat but ran out when I saw the lack of concern about the pandemic. Horrible place of business

Staff was very friendly and helpful, not pushy. Nathan and Bailey were great. Rarely is there a western boot store that carries size 15 boot. This place actually had a good variety to choose even in 15! Staff was also helpful in local restaurant recommendations. Thank you! We will definitely be back.

Im from Minnesota, and bought my very first pair of cowboy boots last week from the people at Headquarters Hat. They were AWESOME! Everyone was so nice, helped me in any way they could, and made sure I left a happy person with a pair of boots that fit my needs. I would recommend this place to anyone! Headquarters has a good selection of hats, and the staff is friendly and helpful. Have been here several times (usually without buying) and never experienced any problem with the employees described by other reviewers. Like much of Main Street Fredericksburg, however, the prices are reflective of a captured audience of tourists.

First time to Fredericksburg and had my heart set on getting a nice cowboy hat and boots. As soon as i walked in I was greeted and treated like a king. I had no idea about cowboy boots or hats but the staff was extremely knowledgeable, courteous, and prompt. I will definitely be back next time and will recommend this place as a stop for anyone who visits the area. Thanks again!

If you need a pair of boots, this is the place! Great selection of quality boots and the customer service couldn’t be better. I took my two year old in and while I shopped, they were nice enough to entertain her so I could think. We even found a pair of boots for her. Everyone was so friendly and fun!

No price tags on boots, hats not in greatest of shape. Poorly sorted items. Pushy staff, gets mad when asking for help most of staff sit and talk while ur needing help. Stick with cavenders or boot barn folks

Awesome service and quality products! My daughter and I visited the shop on a whim while strolling downtown Fredericksburg. We were checking out game day boots and tried out a few different styles when the owner pointed out a beautiful pair of Lucchese boots he had designed. We fell in love with them and were told it would take several weeks to custom make them in her size. To my delight, they arrived just in time for her birthday and the first game day, ahead of schedule! They look beautiful and fit like a glove! Big selection and some nice staff. Though overall, an uncomfortable shopping experience and extremely high prices. Weird how there were so many staff, but it felt intrusive, not helpful. Then there were some of the staff, perhaps the owners/managers, that seemed surly. They put off quite a harried and unfriendly vibe. Wouldn’t recommend; there are plenty of other options on and offline.

No less than 8 staff members standing around and not one offered to help me find a hat. Once I found what I needed I go to purchase, price wasn’t listed, and the hat is double the price that it is on the actual Charlie 1 Horse site. When I questioned it the manager Derrick sarcastically responds with a scowl on his face “well we have to make money since we’re a retailer.”Needless to say I let him keep the precious overpriced hat and simply stood there and ordered my hat online.Never buying here!!

Wow and not in a good way.My wife and I went to Headquarters Hat because she was in the market for some new boots, Luccheses to be exact. They had what looked like a good selection. We walked into the store and werent greeted but instead were followed around the store by a lady with short grey hair and a black cowboy hat. She made my wife and I feel as if we were not supposed to be there. This was the opposite of a warm welcome.We left after a few mintues and kept asking ourselves what brought upon this ladies rude behavior? Did we not look the part? Did we say something? We can only guess.I echo the concerns of many reviews left on this place and urge shoppers to not feed in their success. There are many places that sell good quality products but this business goes against our American values of how people ought to be treated!

I went in to see If I could get on of my hats steamed and reshaped and was rudely told by an employee that they would “only” do it if I bought the hat there, even though I offered them $20 just for a quick reshape then after i wasn’t told that I just walked around looking at other hats and I was followed around the store by two employees so I just left and I am not going back there. There is a place just around the corner owned by a nice old man and he’ll reshape and steam your hat for free.

Just bought my second pair of boots here, and this time I added a hat to my purchase. I made a special trip to Fredericksburg just for this reason. The quality of boots, reasonable prices and the knowledgeable service are unbeatable. I read some bad reviews on the service and I’m not sure where that’s coming from. The service was exceptional and always has been! I come here at least once a year and there is no other place to buy boots or hats in my book!

They lost the sale. My boyfriend wanted to go into this store so in we went with 2 13 yr old well behaved girls. I fell in love with a $300 pair of boots and the owner was helpful as was a younger sales guy. The problem came when my bf decided to take a picture of the boot he was trying on. I hadn’t noticed either the multiple signs on the wall (I guess the owner knows he is charging more than other places) or that he was actually doing it. There is a way to tell someone to stop taking pictures that is NOT RUDE. That owner came flying over and was the rudest salesperson I have ever experienced. We left immediatly and without the $300 boots we planned to buy. Turns out the entire time we were there they were watching my girls. Asking if their parents were there and eyeing them like they were going to steal. Ridiculous! They were sitting on a bench waiting for us! Here is the kicker...we went into another store and in conversation told the clerks that he was rude...”I’m not surprised” was the response and we were told there is another boot store near by! This place doesn’t deserve your business. We live close by and won’t ever be back!

I was very interested in a hat even though the price was high. One of the sales people followed us unnecessarily through the store and interjected in our conversation that had nothing to do with hats. I went back the next day because I had talked myself into getting the hat. Same scenario, different salesperson following us around like a small child in a candy store planning on stealing. Very disrespectful considering the prices. Would not recommend the store.

BUYER BEWARE no prices on any of there Lucchese boots. PRICES are HIGHER then all other stores I checked (MUCH HIGHER). All other stores I checked have prices right on there boots, everyone of them. The number of the boot is stamped inside of the boot. This store offers no refunds exchange only (guess why)

Lots of nice hats, I live in town and have came for years.In late March apparently they are out of felt season and havent added any straw hats. So the selection was limited only what was left on the shelves. Also to mention that they carry nothing over size 7 5/8s. So for me, a 7 3/4s, I wasted 45 minutes looking for a hat that would fit amongst what was left over from felt season. The salesman there will also follow you around constantly to make sure you dont steal a hat. Makes for a uncomfortable experience.

Made the drive out to Fredericksburg with the wife to spend the day. Ended up stepping into Headquarters Hats to see what they had. Ive been in the market for a good straw cowboy hat for some time. Im glad I popped in and talked to Robert. Hes super knowledgable when it comes to hats and took the extra time to explain things. Its clear he loves what he does and helping customers. I highly recommend you stop by if youre in the market from some western wear. Robert and his staff will take good care of you!

My husband and I have shopped at Headquarters Hats for years! The owner has been in business for many years, so he must be doing something right. The previous reviews Ive read must be from a few disgruntled girl friends. We have had nothing but wonderful experiences every time we enter his shop! Found and bought a beautiful pair of Aqua Lucchese boots. The young man who helped me try on the boots had southern politeness which was so refreshing to hear for those of us from the West Coast, since West Coast retailers and people in general are lacking the old-school trait of politeness. He was very helpful, as was everyone else who helped, from the person who stretched the boots for me (quickly BTW, within an hour, it was really was helpful, since one boot was a bit tight around the side of my foot and over my arch area,) also a nice guy who designs many of the specialty Luccheses in the store chatted with me for a bit, told me about the specialty designed boots, including the ones I was purchasing. Then when I mentioned the area where Im from in CA, which has many golf courses, both the of them told me about trips they had each made to California and how they had each played golf at a few courses close to the area where I live in CA. Before I left the store, I browsed through the boots in the designer room...they have one of the largest selections of Luccheses Ive ever seen. There was another person who was working in that room, a very kind woman, I think her name was Kay, but I might be remembering wrong, anyway, she was very nice and we chatted for a bit, as well. Anyway, I love my boots! They are definately broken in now and fit like a glove. I wore them just about everyday for the rest of my trip to San Antonio and back to Austin. Ill definately come back to Headquarter Hats to get another pair of Luccheses sometime in the future! Thanks again to each of you for your kind, polite, helpful, and professional service! Wandered into HQ Hat about 5 years ago, found a Gus style straw they call Cisco that caught my eye and it has turned into my favorite hat. Unfortunately its gotten sweated and snagged by mesquite over the years. I liked it so much I tried to have it replicated without success so when we went to Fredericksburg recently I stopped in to get another but they didnt have my size. Robert placed it on order but said the factory was going on vacation and it would be about 8 weeks. He pulled some strings and I had it within a week---thanks! HQ Hat has a great selection of cool hats and is a Fredericksburg must stop shop!

My family and I are from Oklahoma but have had a ranch near Camp Verde, TX for over 25 years. Every time we come down to the ranch we make it a point to go into Fredericksburg and visit Headquarters Hat, especially when were looking for new boots. Anytime we need new boots we know were waiting till we get down to Fredericksburg. Recently, I had a pair of Lucchese boots tear apart, and I only had them for a year. After I contacted Lucchese they told me they couldnt help but to contact the place where I bought them, Headquarters Hat. I contacted Headquarters Hat and within 5 minutes had a call back with instructions for sending my boots to them and they would take care of them. After a little under a month they called me saying that Lucchese was sending me a brand new pair that were already in the mail. I am so impressed. Ive always loved this place, but I appreciate it even more with how well they handled my situation and corrected it, even when it wasnt their fault.
