Terrible customer service. I called and asked for a date of death appraisal and they said they could provide it. (NOTE: Ive had this done there previously). After driving from Hagerstown MD they seemed confused and declined to perform the appraisal because the deceased have passed away 9 months ago. Avoid at all costs this establishment.

The company offers a safe and reliable place to buy and sell coins, bullion and related numismatic products. They also buy gold and silver jewelry.I brought in a number of older coins, based on my research I was only expecting melt value. The staff invested some time, in the back, assessing the coins. I was offered more than melt, collectible value, on a number of the coins.I have done business with them, off and on, for close to 40 years. I have never had to worry about the authenticity of anything they sell.

I had to sell a 1oz.Gold coin to pay some taxes. Helen answered the phone when I called and she was very nice. Gave me a price over the phone and I went straight into the shop. Easy to sell and fair prices. I even brought a old school 10oz Silver bar while waiting. They had some interesting older coins on display. I will be back for sure!

There are very few coin shops left for the Hobby in any area that said Gaithersburg coin exchange is probably the largest coin shop in dealer that I have seen. This is the only reason it gets the second star is because of their enormous inventory. Up front is a general feeling of negative energy when you walk into that building and the gentleman that I interacted with was extraordinarily rude and seemed annoyed that I was in there. I asked to see a few things a comment was made well they are graded coins seeming to imply that I could not afford graded coins. I asked him about a couple of different sets and very condescendingly he asks are you sure you care enough to buy it. I was looking for some tea and semi key dates for several different types of coins to complete my collections and asked him about buckets the coins he said we have buckets and buckets but if you think youre going to look through them thats not going to happen. I even offered to do it myself because he said they were short-handed. There was a lady who work there as well and an elderly woman came in looking to see what she had to decide if she should just try and sell them or save them for her children and grandchildren and she held him very close to her chest. And the lady with a smile on her face says these arent worth anything spend them you have nothing but in such a rude way completely oblivious that this elderly woman had obviously held on to these for quite some time. What I will say the positives our inventory despite the fact I dont believe they know everything that they have and that their websites not indicative of what is in the store but nor is there eBay cite comprehensive either. I will also point out that the price quotes they gave me were below what I consider to be fair market value and that is a good thing but I would rather pay more for something and have people that treat me with dignity and respect and treat others with dignity and respect then to give these people my money. If you want a pawn shop for coins that looks like it belongs in an inner-city this is where you need to go but if youre looking for the hobby if youre looking for kindness and excitement it would appear that the excitement has long left the people working in that store. I did not sell them anything so I cannot speak to their prices but according to the other reviews they pay well but this is definitely not a happy place to come into

Worst customer service ever! Owner is a grumpy old man with ZERO manners. Unbelievable how poorly I was treated. Waited 30 min for an offer on a gold ring, I accepted the offer of $491. After waiting another 45 minutes the owner came out and said he didnt want it???? No other offer, no nothing, just gave me back the ring.

Terrific experience. Very smooth transaction from my call to exchanging my coins for cash. Easy to find. Unfortunately, some people are likely looking for a loud sign announcing their business; their signage is more tasteful than that. Given my overwhelming positive experience, I would say their signage is fitting.

Went there on a Wednesday, easy to find, enough parking space. The store is well garnished. Went for gold bullions, I wasnt deceived, they have all types of precious metal for your bucks. The seller was very knowledgeable of the world and why having precious metals wasgood investments . Left satisfied, will definitely recommend .

On precious metals, no one can touch these guys, buying or selling. On the coins they just seem to have decided you can look them up on EBAY and bid there. They just do not have time for it any longer...its just too much work. This issue tracks to many posters right here. Same experience. Fair enough. Know why you are going there. Their coins are going to grow roots and be there for the Ragnarock. GOOD! It makes all the others being bought and sold at real coin shops and shows worth more. !!

I have had only very positive experiences at Gold and Silver Exchange in Gaithersburg, Md. They give better prices then anyone else and very nice. They are one of the very few dealers that really know coins and I mean all coins! I strongly recommend seeing them for all your needs concerning selling or buying gold, silver and rare and new coins. Thanks for reading my review, Rosine Bonanno

Wait can be lengthy, but they pay far better than anyone else in the area. Ive been to the local pawn shops and Maryland Jewelry Exchange, and both pay far less - like 50-60% of scrap value with no consideration for collectability value. Upfront and honest people. I also go here for my coins. Check values online first for comparison, so you know the value of your pieces.

I have read a lot of negative reviews for Gaithersburg Coin, but having now purchased from them I dont see the validity in the complaints. The people there were knowledgeable and most patient with my lack of knowledge. I felt at ease with their suggestions and advice. They also seem to have the best prices around.

From my multiple bussiness deals in the past, I became doubtful wethere these old/retired falks are there to do a real bussiness. They look spending their time for halth reason/keep themselves healty instead of home stay at such retirement age. From my frequent bussiness, phone calls and close observation I agree with most of the reviews - they are most disrespectful, arrogant, mannerless and slow. You will see a lot of drama and character....Their first impression when you step in is full of suspision as if you were a criminal. The men behave as if they were onduty lawenforcement and you were under their custody. I will work fast and try to dismiss as soon as possible whenever a customer appeared suspicious to me. But that is not what they are doing. They want you stay there for extremely longer period of time...You better avoid them at any cost and drive few miles away where you get better treatment. I stopped doing bussiness with them and dealing with Gold Eagel Coins in Laurel MD.

Person who works there does not have any knowledge on the silver coins they sell or what is available in the market. You ask him whether can I have a look around, he says I should tell the coin name and he would get it from the shelf. But it takes 5 minutes to explain him which coin I need.He calls himself once I was a collector too. But never bothers to even listen to what we say or updates himself about the latest coins. This guy does not know, may be never heard about Privy Marked Maple leaves. The problem is, he is not really concerned about selling any metals. Kind of lazy to check the prices for the coins we check. Last visit I noticed a 5 Oz ATB coin. I asked him the price of it. I was really looking forward to get one. You would not believe what he said. Those are for collectors, beginners do not buy it. Well thank you for educating me and making me feel special.Since then I am sticking to Provident, Apmex and JM Bullion.Every time I go there, I come back with an even bad experience.I give the 2 stars only for the lady who is usually around until afternoon. She really would want to help the customer and at least care to show me the coins I would like to see.I wish someone opens another store around Gaithersburg area and show these guys how business is run.

GCE pays the best rate for your scrap or collectible gold. They paid me $5 over spot for my gold bar and $21.84 for some scrap gold I wanted to get rid of. I went the day before Thanksgiving so they werent busy, and hoping to close early. I called before leaving my house because I didnt want to make a 50 minute drive for nothing. They told me they would probably close early & they said they would be open until at least 4pm. I got there a little after 3pm. (Here is my comparison. I had called a gold buyer in Glen Burnie about 5 weeks before, and he said he pays $10 under spot, and his website says he pays an extra $35 if he buys over $150 in gold. I went there just before going to GCE and he said he would pay 5 PERCENT UNDER spot, whether collectible or scrap, and said the $35 is not for gold with Certificate of Authenticity. There was no mention of that exclusion on his website. And he offered me $10 for the scrap gold I had. (Both places said it was .7 dwt of 14kt gold) So it was worth the drive to GCE to get a VERY FAIR price for my gold.) The negative reviews say they feel cheated but they dont say why they feel cheated, or where they could get paid better elsewhere.
