Everyone seems nice here, but I paid $100 and dropped a machine off to be repaired around the beginning of January. I dont know what is wrong with it, but it just slowed down and stopped working, and my local place wouldnt fix any digital machines. I knew it would take a while, because of pandemic, but it has now been nine months and the only time someone has called me with an update is to ask me to pay for a part that was ordered sometime in Spring. Since then, Ive called numerous times. At times, Ive been told the part was taking a long time because of the pandemic. At times, Ive been told that the part was there and the machine was being worked on. Then Ive been told that they are still waiting for the part. The staff has always been polite, but at times they seem to be making stuff up to tell me. They usually ask me if someone can call me back to give more info, and I always agree, but no one ever has called me as far as I can tell. One time, I sat on hold for about fifteen or twenty minutes before figuring they forgot about me, so I hung up. Seems like getting this machine repaired here wasnt worth it. I still dont even know what is wrong with it. I should have just sold it for parts on ebay and saved the $100.

I bought my new Janome sewing machine at Capital Quilts, and it was a wonderful experience. I got my free lesson that came with the machine from Barbara, who was extremely knowledgeable and generous: Im enjoying my machine so much more than I would have without her in-depth tour of all the features. All of the staff were friendly and welcoming, and they had all the extra supplies I needed to start my project.

I made the trip to Gaithersburg to visit this shop during my vacation in late June. There was only 1 other car there and an employee was showing the customer fabrics outside on the hood of her car. As soon as I got out of my car, the employee outside snapped at me that they only see customers by appointment. It looked they dont allow you to come in but bring fabric out to the customer. I understand some people are still freaked out by Covid, but thats really not how you speak to someone who pulls up to your business. Not a great first impression so I wont be back. There are other far more friendly shops who will appreciate my business.

0 stars. The worst customer service I have experienced in a long time. I first spoke with Barbara about finishing a t-shirt quilt with long arm quilting over a year ago. It was around the holidays, so I gave her some slack about not returning my phone calls (multiple phone calls). Then I got busy and forgot about this project as I worked on other things. The next time I spoke with her, she explained that she had someone else doing her finishing for her and thats why she didnt return my calls. So I met with her twice this fall and she saw the quilt top both times. The first time, she had me take it home and make a minor change. I also bought more fabric so she could make matching binding and attach that for me. The second time, we discussed the quilting pattern, price, and estimated completion date. The completion date gave her two months to complete the quilt. The week of the completion date, I called the shop and asked about my quilt. They got in touch with her and she left me a message stating that she had been sick for 3 weeks and would start on my quilt right away. Then she called me the next day, asking me to pick up the quilt top, take the quilt top apart, put in stabilizer, and bring it back to her. Mind you this is two weeks after the estimated completion date. SHE HAD NOT EVEN LOOKED AT IT OR STARTED IT until I called asking where it was. Terrible customer service. If she was sick and behind schedule, she should have had the shop call people to let them know their projects would be delayed. This was supposed to be a Christmas gift, but will not be done in time. I asked her to take it to the shop so I could pick it up. Otherwise Ill be waiting another year to get this done.

I just spoke to a very nice person re questions about purchasing a machine and Im impressed by the shops array of fabrics so I looked at the class list. This is a quilting shop and Im a hobby apparel sewer so I did not expect many if any apparel classes. I was happy to see that there was one beginner apparel class, however it is late in the year and the sessions have been going on for some time so registration is closed. Understandable. Ill check back and hope to see one or maybe even more apparel classes offered hopefully for intermediate sewers such as myself.2020 UPDATE: Went into the store today by appointment to find a well regulated system in place to control covid and it was a pleasure to shop in a quiet, not overly peopled store where everyone wore masks and used hand sanitizer and social distanced. If only every store could be like that. There was a good choice of lovely fabrics and all the staff were friendly and welcoming. Lona helped me with my fabric choices and cuts and given that stores have been thrown into the unenviable role of also regulating health safety in the midst of a pandemic she was cheerful, efficient and helpful and the overall experience was a great one.

I went into the shop to just look around a bit today. The owner came to greet me and tell me about the shop. There are so many different things offered here. Classes, contests, fabric (of course), books, quilting tools, even quilting equipment that can be rented. I felt very much at home here. The prices are slightly above what I’m used to. But I’m not a professional - I’m mostly a hobby quilter. Maybe someday I’ll get there.

I have been going to Cap Quilts since the new owner took over in 2012???? and I find it to be a very warm and inviting atmosphere. This place has been fantastic. Large selection of high quality fabrics, and the staff are encouraging to someone starting out and give excellent, sound advice. I go to them for fabrics that will be used in gifts or that need to last because the feel and thickness are much better quality than other local fabric shops. I gave four stars because they can be a bit pricey, but for the convenience and customer service Im ok with it.

Brought my high-end Janome machine there for servicing on Aug. 22, 2019 because they advertise they are a Certified Janome Dealer. Unfortunately, they had my machine for well over two months with no servicing and no communication. Reasonably, to find out the status of my machine I called several times--with a couple of emails in between. No one ever called me back with any information. (Nothing, zilch, nada, insert crickets here). Now, I work at another fabric store that deals with another machine brand. Never, would any of those technicians or owner be so passive when it comes to their customers.Being very frustrated I went there to pick up my machine on Oct. 26, 2019, unfortunately in the same situation it was dropped off on Aug. 22, 2019. While there, the sales person said she “had notes”: Apparently, one of their techs spoke to a Janome HQ tech--again this was never relayed to me--and said I should use a more “heavy duty” machine. Now, Ive been sewing for more than 50 years. Two of my previous machines were Janomes (6600 & 12,000) and Ive never had any trouble with these like with this current high end. I just couldn’t help thinking why I would need to use a more heavy duty machine when I do the same type of sewing as I did always did before? Because I have a technical background myself, Im one of those people that read sewing machine manuals and relay and teach best practices to customers on how to use them. Why this was said was never explained to me. Did they not want to service the machine? THEY ARE A “CERTIFIED” JANOME DEALER.I can only hope when I report all this to Janome HQ, those folks can provide me with a reputable dealer that would have technicians with good communication skills as well as their technical skills. Hopefully, they will service my current Janome machine, which by the way is still under a limited warranty!

When I phoned for recommendations of local long arm quilters the saleswoman (I think it was Eleanor) could not have been nicer or more helpful. She emailed two lists of quilters, with suggestions. I live 50 minutes away, but I will be making a special trip to this store because of their customer service. I do hope some who have been disappointed will try again. We need to keep these stores going!

I discovered this quilt shop after purchasing some fabric from them at the Annapolis quilt show. I was very impressed with the large selection of fabric that they brought to the show and the woman working the booth was very friendly. I decided to make the hike to the store (45 minutes from my house) and was not disappointed. This store is bright, open and airy but yet still manages to have a huge selection of organized fabric and supplies as well as customer quilts displayed on the wall. I really love how everything had price tags/labels, making it easy to decide on purchases and get the information needed. There were also several signs and projects all around which were advertisements for upcoming classes, but yet inspiring to see. The shop also had a large Janome section of machines that you could look at and test out. I was very pleased that there were several employees working to help customers and while I was looking around the store overheard the employees making conversation with the customers about their fabric choices and projects. An employee named Jan approached me and asked me if I needed help. I explained that I was new to the shop and she spent several minutes answering my tons of questions I had about this new shop. She was so patient and willing to help me, not only with products but general sewing questions since Im still a beginner. She also was not pushy or salesy.I was very pleased with this shop, and the only reason Im not giving it 5 stars, is because I have only been to a few quilt stores and dont have too much to compare it to. I definitely plan on visiting this shop again (drive or not) because from what I can gather, THIS is the quilt shop you hope for in your sewing career. You can tell that the employees that run this business not only care, but are interested in quilting/sewing and are truly invested in this shop and the customer base.I was even more pleased when I researched their website when I got home. There is so much information available and interesting classes that you can take at various times (not just weekends). I cant wait to try out a class or sewing event to meet some other people. I hope to give this place 5 stars in a future visit. :)

Capital Quilts is a wonderful quilt shop. Tons of beautiful fabric, newly expanded and a caring owner and staff. I took my first ever quilting class with Annette Burns and learned how to quilt with a professional and caring teacher. I am glad that I didnt pay attention to the reviews from 4 years ago that are not only negative, but down right insulting. I am very happy that I found this great shop and excellent classes. The new expansion is breath taking with fabulous fabrics and Janome Sewing Machines and Horn Cabinets on display along with knowledgeable staff to demonstrate . Great classes for all levels of experience, taught by caring instructors.

This is my favorite quilt fabric shop, especially with G Streets downsizing and smaller selection of cottons. Lots of fabrics for my taste in the modern and colorful, especially Kaffe Fasset and batiks (avg. $12/yd which is comparable to online prices, but you get to see/touch before purchase). I also took the beginner class with Annette and had a great time learning the basics. The staff is knowledgeable about products and techniques and helpful/friendly (and yes, I am under 50). Lots of good info in their newsletter too. The only drawback is that most days they close at 6 so I have to wait until Friday after work to indulge in fabric gazing.

Being an out of town visitor, I specifically search out quilt shops, so I was excited to find this one! The owner greeted me warmly and pointed out other shops in the area I might enjoy also. I peeked in on a class in progress, they were making animal beds, and everyone seemed happy. I was browsing the books in the same room and it was made known to me I was in the way. If they expect people to buy their books maybe place them someplace else....Being a librarian and a quilter, books would have been my purchase. I basically use Civil War fabrics, which there were none, so I left emptyhanded. Their loss, I was a tourist out to fill my car with goodies to take home. :(
