Passing through NM we were looking for a great local place to get breakfast. This place had alot of reviews and looked promising. My thoughts on that, well...nice try.-Google maps got us there without a problem.- The problem we had though, is not really knowing if we were going into the right door for the restaurant or if it was even open. There would have been no confusion if there was a sign, decal, painted glass, something on the entrance. Instead its just a dark tinted door and from the outside it looks a little iffy.‐We were seated quickly, but right next to the kitchen, it was a little noisy for our liking.‐Took the waitress about 10 min to get our order but it did come out within 5-8 min of being placed. She did check on us a couple times, even with it being pretty busy.‐The employees could have been more personable, smile, make us feel welcome to be dinning there, but they just seemed busy and uncaring.- We got the Katy Special, the food was okay, the French toast seemed like it was cooked in a toaster, smothered and served and tasted like I described. The bacon was thick and cooked crispy just like we like it, eggs were eh.-The inside seemed like it had seen better days. Its outdated. Probably hasnt been updated since it saw its opening day. More than a few tables are wobbly, the fix for the restaurant is a rolled up napkin... hey if it works, why not, haha.-After our meal, they brought us our bill. You need to walk to the counter to pay, they do accept cards or cash, and they offer a military discount which is awesome.-Overall, if your sick of fast food and want something local and similar to a run down Dennys. This is the place for you!
Everything we got was great! Excellent experience. ALL staff was friendly and attentive. Never saw anyone standing around. Small place, but they manage it expertly. This was our first visit as we traveled I40 and well definitely stop again.Looking forward to trying Breakfast!
Great local dinner! Food was delicious and inexpensive. Three of us ordered hamburgers- they were some of the best hamburgers I have ever had. Heaped with quality bacon and mushrooms.Kids all ordered corn dogs which came with so many french fries they couldnt eat all of them.Service was exceptional as well. Everyone was polite and quick to serve. We were from out of town and took a chance. Happy to help support a local and delicious restaurant. If we ever drive through here again, we will definitely stop in.
Service was prompt, the food was good, and it was more than I could eat!Valentine was my server. She is friendly, outgoing, and a true asset to your business. So glad to have met her!
Seriously the best biscuits and gravy weve ever had! The service was top notch. I highly recommend you stop here for breakfast, you wont be disappointed.
A quaint place with a touch of home cooked food. Service is friendly and attentive. Definitely a place to make a weekly visit to.
Had the #1 Mexican combo with enchilada, tamale, taco, rice and beans. The chile was excellent. Both red and green were good. Staff was friendly. Some wait time during busy times and kinda a small place but if you have time and are in no rush and want some Mexican food. Not too bad a place. Wish I had a photo to show but overall my food was pretty good 👍 5 of 5 for me.
We havent been at Rt 66 Railway for sometimes. But going back there was reminiscent of our prior visits.Food is fairly priced. Very good Mexican dishes. And most of the atmosphere is very pleaseant.Highly recommend stopping by on your trips.
You have to try there French toast it us the best in the world. At least my family thinks so it is the only place we eat it at . Food and service are awesome and polite.
This place is a true gem about three minutes off of I 40 at exit 22. All of the service staff was extremely friendly, however Stephanie our server was exceptional. The BNSF burrito is out of this world you get 3 eggs and 4 meats included for under $10. I got it with the green chili sauce and hash browns with cheese and sautéed onions. The meal was enough to fill me up for three days. I know it’s a very small factor but the unsweet tea was fantastic, never had to ask for a refill and was offered it to go cup. Truly top-notch service for a roadside diner. Breakfast served all day with a great lunch menu also. Don’t forget to get a cobbler, if you can spare the room or grab once ago as they are all great.
We love this place. The food is always great. The servers are always so nice and efficient. We love the atmosphere, the model trains are always an enjoyable part of our visits.
Had a great breakfast here this morning. The food was delicious, the staff friendly, and the service great. I am so glad the place we started to go to was closed for in house dining! If we ever travel this way again, we will definitely stop!
Great food passing by and stopped here.Service was good and friendly . The salsa was good the best I have ever tasted in any restaurant
A nice place to sit and relax with good foodGood service and music. They have the best home made salsa
The food was very good. We ordered something to go. The engineer burger was very good. My husband had the chicken fried steak. He enjoyed it. Prices realistic.
We had the Hamburger Steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. Good Country Meal!
Passing through and stopped for breakfast. Had huevos rancheros and my husband had a cheese omelette. Portions are huge and it tasted fabulous! Nice staff. I’ll be back.
Good burger. Good service. The inlet was incredible.
Ordered ahead of time so when we got there it was fast, friendly, and good food.
Always a favorite to stop at when in town! Stephanie and the crew always treat us great n the service is fast n what customer service should be. A family owned business that serves great food fast & the green chile is my favorite 😋 👌
Good food. Good service. Would eat here qgain.
Great food, warm friendly people . Definitely worth a visit
I had dinner here, kinda dry, a little too much pepper on the country fried steak. Hamburger steak a bit crispy. Had biscuits and gravy with eggs and hash. Most delicious. Biscuit was not the flaky kind but smooth and spongelike fluffiness. Cute names for dishes.
Route 66 railway café is definitely something that is gem! It is my go to place to stop in to have lunch when Im driving through Gallup from California all the way to Boston. Ive driven across the country maybe 16 times and this is a place I never miss. Its so unique. The food and service is absolutely top notch. It is a real authentic mom-and-pop place. If I could give 10 stars, I would. The variety in the menu is outstanding. For locals and route 66 travelers. If you miss this establishment, you are missing out.
Great spot. Well worth getting off the highway.
I would give more stars as this is one of our favorite places to eat, but every time I call, especially in the mornings, it’s like they take their phone off the hook!! Super annoying when you’re just trying to get in and get out!! I’ve chosen other restaurants just because of this! It isn’t a big deal but still, what’s the point of offering take out when you never answer your phone??!
Nice place. the staff was great and accomodating.
It was delicious! I recommend that everyone should eat here!
Food was amazing. Staff was real nice. Service was wonderful. Will definitely be eating their again
Food is always good; the service has gotten better. Railway has gotten new wait staff so its a better experience.
One of the waitress/waiter was unfriendly and a little rude. But other than that, it was good food.
OMG... It was so nice to finally eat here again after about a year. Food was delicious and well proportioned. Service was excellent. Amanda kept our drinks full, and never forgot about us even though it was busy. Im definitely going to become a regular again. 😎👍
We stopped at Route 66 Railway Cafe, which we learned is family-owned and operated, in Gallup on our way to Santa Fe. The food was delicious, the portions were large (way more than we could eat), and the prices were extremely reasonable! We figured out that it is a local favorite while we sat and ate. Karen and her daughter were super kind and funny too. Highly recommend you stop in if you are driving on Route 66 for some fabulous food at an affordable price!
Friendly service. Delicious burgers!
Railway has the best breakfast foods! Their whole menu is fantastic but breakfast especially is wonderful. The staff is always the most welcoming and accommodating. Its got that small town diner feel. Very clean and always nice! I highly recommend you get the French Toast. It is the best! 10/10 would recommend!
Great little place food was good atmosphere was nice
Huge servings from the regular (not senior or kids) menu. Very attentive staff. Pancakes were great, scrambled eggs above average.
Staff were friendly and fast. Food was good. Burrito was spicy
Stopped in for breakfast. There were 9 of us. Food was amazing. Good service.

After spending a week in Arizona, I needed authentic chile! This place offered a great fix for my craving!
I recently had breakfast there food was great but staff needs customer service training
Busy and delicious. They never lost their skills in the cooking department. Down home gut filling food.
Great service, very clean, big breakfasts and delicious chile (thumbs up on the red!) kept the hubs coffee cup full. Absolute recommend!

👍 delicious food and great customer service! 👌😃
Great food and great prices, really enjoyed eating here
Really amazing! We stopped here on the way back from a long road-trip and the food was on point! I’m not sure what exactly the style is but the breakfast burrito with chorizo had just the right amount of spice.Service was fast and friendly as well, especially during these trying times. Would go back if I’m on the area!
Great place for breakfast! The French toast was delicious!
Excellent food and service. Will be back for more!
Have never had a bad meal and generous amount .
Food was a little over cooked, good otherwise. Average menue item was around $11 each. Service was good.
Had a breakfast burrito smothered in green chile and fully transcended my physical reality into a celestial plane of flavor.
Fantastic breakfast and friendly staff! You won’t leave hungry!
Good quality food good execution of the staff great service... but very bland flavor overall... I hate to be negative but if seasoned correctly itd be a smash hit 🤷
Food n service was very good clean place, fast service, friendly workers
Very friendly staff and very homely
Delicious green chili a little on the spicy side.
Food was great and service was fantastic! Chili was spicy, great flavors.
I had such an amazing time at Railway Cafe in Gallup with my family. We had amazing food. The service was prompt and our server was really attentive. We will be back to visit soon! I wish I had taken a photo of my enchilada plate. I highly suggest this restaurant to anyone in the Gallup area.
Drove out of our way to have lunch here. Although, info indicated it was open the note on the door CLOSED MONDAYS. Ug. After giving it a one star review the owner updated their hours after online. Thats good customer service so Im updating my 1 star to 5 stars. See ya next time we pass through.
Food is always great!! Had been long time since weve been there due to Covid..but never disappointed..Was my Moms favorite place to eat. Thank you Tracy for the great service 😊👍
Great food. Great staff. I would give more stars but they only allow 5.
Loved this place. Food was great and people were friendly!!
Amazing food always satisfied
Its was alright.. Seems like they use canned enchilada sauce. 🤷♀️
We found this place on Google. Thinking it would be real touristy we were skeptical but willing to give it a shot since it had a good rating. It turned out not to be touristy at all and the found was excellent. We both had the New Mexico plate #2, one red, one green, both were excellent.
Picked up some takeout 1 July. They did a great job delivering to the curb. Mexican special #1 very good. Tamale plate fabulous. green chili stew AWESOME! Very spicy
Great food as usual.
Super service, good food that was fresh and delicious.
Excellent New Mexican cooking. Food was absolutely delicious, red chili had enough spice that I brought some home with me!! Customer service was top notch!! Thank you!!
Overall very pleasing experience. I am an eggatarian and like enchiladas and their green and red chilli enchiladas with boiled and scrambled egg and diced fried potatoes is just awesome. Kids meal as well they have some nice options. My son liked the fries and chicken strips. Decor and staff are courteous and serve you well but once they goofed-up with my order when served the soup first way before the other part of the menu and on asking said its complementary. We ordered this dish for the first time hence wasnt sure what all it comes with and the other half was really dry to eat in itself. May be the server that day was just in little hurry. We will sure to dine again here whenever passing by.
A good place to have a bite and do some shopping of the historic Route 66 memorabilia. The place has many food items and drinks .
Food is the best and best service
Did the curbside. Great green chili breast dinner.
First impression is that it is a bit of a drive. It is showing some wear and tear but please dont let that stop you from coming in and enjoying the outstanding hospitality and comfort food. With your beverage order, you are given chips and salsa. The salsa is some of the best I have tasted. It has a good luck of heat without melting your face off.For dinner, I had Chicken Fried Chicken Breast with cream gravy. The chicken was tender and juicy with a crispy coating. This is served with a cream gravy on top which was excellent with a touch of salt added. With the dinner, you get soup or salad. I, thankfully, opted for the Chicken Rice soup. Complete with celery, carrots, and peppers that melt in your mouth, this was also some of the best I have ever tasted. There is a bit of heat that is unexpected but just right. I would love to have this in our cold Michigan winters back home. The service was also outstanding. Everyone there made us feel welcome as if we were regulars and not just travellers passing through.
This place is delicious and a great local spot! The place is clean, the staff was friendly, and our food came out hot! The hamburger called the engineer is the best!
Even though this pandemic is happening, the food is still great, costumer service was good as well 👌🏽
