A classic diner in an old train car!!! We went during breakfast and had a delightful meal. Our server Linda was super nice and attentive even though they were quite busy. The food was delicious and fresh with that classic diner touch. Its definitely the kind of place where they learn your name if you come in more then once, and theres always good times to be had in that kind of environment. Wish more places like this still existed!!!!
I wish I had taken a picture first but I was hungry, Oh my lanta! The best comfort food in Maine! Treat yourself to this wonderful place with great service and great food. My new go to place when in Augusta!
July 31, 2021 - Time travel is possible at Gardiner’s old fashion A-1 Diner on Bridge Street ! Quaint diner feel, with good comfort food earns a 4.5 rating!Their menu offers up several pages of breakfast, lunch, and dinner items at reasonable prices. My wife’s roast beef wrap was stacked & packed! And good! I enjoyed a turkey sandwich with cranberry chutney, also good! Friends order up meatloaf sandwich, and chicken curry wrap . . . They both spoke highly of the quality! Save room for desserts . . . Taste as good as they look! What an unexpected treat. A typical diner only by the looks of it. The food is creative and very different than what youd expect from a normal diner. I got the curry chicken salad wrap and my family got a scallop BLT, a salmon salad, and a shrimp skewer with mango chutney. It was like eating at a fancy restaurant but in a diner car instead. I was ready to have just a typical burger and fries meal but was so surprised by what I got instead. This is a great place to have a non typical lunch and I would highly recommend it.
Small but with surprisingly awesome vegetarian and vegan options. The hostess/waitress was very helpful and friendly.
Wanted to sit outside. Waitress said to take a seat and she would bring us menus and provide table service. She must have forgot about us, so we waited a while then left. Found a different place for lunch that had excellent service and great food. Glad the area had some options!
Grew up going here with my parents every couple weeks. After 15 years away, finally made it back and enjoyed every nostalgic second of it! Just how I remembered it, but now with a Protein Bowl on the breakfast menu, which I ordered and devoured! It was SO delicious. Just sad I cant eat here 3 times a day every day. The waitress extraordinaire, Cassie I think, was doing an amazing job all by herself to keep the packed diner happy.
Great place. We found A1 Diner while searching Google for a place for breakfast on our way to Littleton, NH. My husband, son and I loved the atmosphere. The staff was super nice and the food was perfect!
Has some tasty, unique dishes for a diner. Moroccan wrap was very satisfying. Hope to be back to try other options.
Terrific good. Try the Undertakers Wife sandwich.
I love this place! Staff is friendly. Food is great. But with that said. The greatness stops there. Parking is very much limited. So is seating. If your a bigger person your going to be uncomfortable (you wont fit in their booth so dont try). Their prices are on the higher side.. in my opinion for a diner but they like i said food is awesome and its a one of a kind place. Being a boxcar and all!
Our waitress was very friendly, great attitude and great service.. When my husband and I walked in we were overwhelmed with the delicious smell of the food being served. We were not disappointed with our selections either! My burger was cooked to exactly medium rare which is so difficult to find anywhere, and my husbands spicy Asian soup was rich and full of flavor! Overall I would eat here many many many more times!!
My friend got the goat cheese salad with grilled chicken and Im still dreaming about getting it myself a week later. Everything is good here.
Great original diner plus outdoor seating with traditional New England diner menu.
Typical diner. Could use a freaking up inside??? Cozy for sure. Friendly service and guest a must. Fantastic food with a flair of a 4 star restaurant YES. A little pricey, but those are the going rate nowadays. Worth a trip back when in the area. Hope to see u soon.
Fresh, hot, and delicious is the best way to describe the food. If you get a chance to come here I definitely recommend it.
The waitress was great. The specials are interesting, which is great! The food was very good and the desserts were delicious.
I got a bowl of soup and expected it to be a puny small thin bowl of soup like you get most places, but no! It was thick hearty and filling.
Had a wonderful meal had the fried clam dinner which was great! fresh cut fries and probably 10 pieces of clams not a good portion. We also had a cheeseburger which was charred black so we got a new one which was also charred black not as much though but still too much, a BLT, fried haddock sandwich which looked great and 3 chicken tenders and a handful of fries. Portions are very small. Prices are outrageous for what youre getting we spent $75 and it was not at all worth that price The waitress was awesome very nice and attentive but she was all alone on a Friday night with no help so she was extremely busy! I gave 3 stars because she was so nice!
Great service- appreciated the server being attentive and giving personalized recommendations on menu items. Super cute setting in a train car (right?). I had the black bean quesadilla, which was actually a wrap, and had a really nice flavor and spice level.
Not your typical diner food. I had Korean beef sliders with sweet potato fries and they were excellent. There is outside dining and the inside is adorable.
Drove out of the way to get here. The hash was phenomenal!! Best Ive ever had!! Definitely coming back again!
Great atmosphere, Excellent service and Delicious Brunch! Highly Recommend😊
Delicious food!! Awesome service!! Traveling through Gardiner and stopped for dinner. We appreciate the tips she gave us on places to visit while were in Maine too! 😊
A slightly upmarket diner experience in a very traditional setting (a converted railroad car on stilts). The food is always great quality and fresh. They have some truly unique specials and menu items. All in all...A1.
Bob Peters here,Holy Moly folks, this place is fully psychotic. I walked in hungry and walked out with a beer keg sized stomach. I got Korean BBQ sliders, the fish tacos, the rocket ribeye Alfredo, 2 raspberry Brie burgers, a spicy pork po boy, 3 pesto chicken flatbreads, a rum raisin bread pudding, 4 poutines, 3 pancakes, biscuits and gravy, sausage, bacon, grilled English muffin, and 16 Orange Poppyseed waffles. Everything was incredible. I nearly lost my mind. 6 thumbs up to the moon folks.Over and out,Bob Peters
Great food and friendly staff. Would definitely go again
The food was amazing. It looks like a diner but the food is not like any diner Ive eaten at before. Its so good. Not greased or salty and very unique.
1st time stopping. Good breakfast menu fair price. Great and friendly staff.
Delicious corned beef hash but... needs more corned beef and larger portion.
Its nice to sit it the rail car and eat, but it seems dirty and not well maintained. The bathrooms are tiny and you need to go outside to get to them. The food is good, but nothing to write home about. I hope that they clean and fix it up so that it brings life back to the place. It has so much potential.
Really great place. Everything is made fresh and cooked to perfection.
Great selection of dishes you wont find anywhere else, expertly prepared. But next time I order poutine with my burger, please offer a side other than more french fries.
Food was prepared in 15 mins and great portions, service, great value.
Wow We love this place. Great tasting reasonable food. We are definitely coming back!!
Great food and such amazing friendly hostess. Definitely coming back!
Always excellent.tried a new burger with brie and raspberry jam... actually quite good....
This cute little place has delicious food and friendly service
Good diner food. Very popular and very busy.
Fun, quick service and delicious turkey with apple and brie sandwich!
Stopped in on my Saturday morning drive. The diner is right on the highway and easy to find. Limited seating but the service was quick and friendly. Had banana walnut pancakes with real maple syrup (upcharge) and a small side of ham. Food was very good. Covid protection included plexiglass dividers at the counter.
The food was really good, the restaurant is very aesthetically pleasing, but it took us out very long time to get served.
Excellent food and even better service!
Food was ok atmosphere was cool
Great food! Friendly service!
Great food and everyone is so friendly 😊
Tasty, friendly, interesting menu, good service, good prices, coffee was good too. Worth the stop if youre in the area.
Was delicious! Had lunch we split an amazing grill cheese with caramelized onions and a bacon cheeseburger, so good
Great atmosphere. Food was good.
Best diner food around!!
Always friendly and delicious.
Great food and service . A very unique Diner
Terrible service and was really rude. Was not happy. Wont ever go there again. 😕😕🤔
I was trying to think of a reason to NOT give this place a 5. I couldnt. Its THAT great. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a train car with a lot of history... Which I think it is and has.The food is very well made. I had an omelette with spinach, broccoli, and guyere cheese. Yes; guyere. They also have salsa verde that was good enough to be from New Mexico. The star of the show was the home made hash which is as amazing as it sounds. The corned beef was delicious and lean. And yes, they have mimosas.Im looking forward to coming back and eating some of their dinner dishes like the mojito duck. This place is a hidden gem and the best place for brunch outside of Portland.
Perfect great place to eat we will definitely go back
Small but cute. My food was alright. Really great service :)
Good food and good service!
Nice old diner which you can appreciate local history. Food was good. Will stop in again when coming through town. Thanks guys.
Went for breakfast. Food was good but waitress lacked personality!
Delicious...nice quiet place currently as construction finishes up the new bridge and thru way to turnpike for truckers getting out of dodge...deserts well no room after steak eggs and homefries
Super cool atmosphere & really nice staff! Food is great and dessert is better.
Loved! Had the French toast with brie and blueberry compote! So Good! Put this place on your list!
In a word... unique,
Classic small town diner ambience with refreshingly up-to-date recipes. The diner itself is old-style, warm, and intimate. There is a friendly atmosphere. The huge plus is that the food is not the typical greasy, starchy dinner fare. They have lots of vegetarian options and fresh dishes. Top notch! Gardiner is lucky to have such a treasure. I highly recommend!!
Nice retro atmosphere. Surprising menu that was not typical diner fare which was disappointing. Food and service ok but will look elsewhere next time we are in town.
The food and atmosphere have not suffered during this time, with the setting still as unique as anywhere I have been. The food is wonderful the staff is attentive, fun and accommodating. Stop in if you get the chance, you can even take the food to go. You wont be disappointed
Lunch date with a friend. We met up at A1 Diner. Friendly staff. Good food. Large portions. Can we get boxes? On the drive home, I knew what was for dinner: A1 Diner leftovers. I will definitely be going back there again.
Very friendly and super cool inside!
Excellent pastrami hash for Sunday breakfast Memorial Day weekend. Great rye toast too. I’m glad Aaron opened for Sunday’s again. They’re very careful and I feel it’s a safe place to eat inside or pick-up.
Great tasting food, classic Worcester diner car atmosphere, very nice service. Thanks Cassie!
