This has been the worst experience with a power company ever!!! First I bought my house in 2016 September with a 700 beacon score. When I applied for power they denied me and told me I had to be on the prepaid program. I said ok whatever. 5 years later I’m still on the same prepaid plan. On top of that I changed bank accounts due to fraud at my bank and I accidentally submitted a payment from the wrong account. Honest mistake. Now I can’t even pay online at all. And they won’t even switch my account to monthly. This is insane and completely stupid seeing how I’ve paid my bill ahead of time for 5 years straight! Awful awful awful company to do business with. If I had another choice for power I would’ve never signed up with them. I’m actually considering moving from this county just so I don’t have to have power with this company! If your thinking about moving to an area where Berkeley electric is the power company. Think hard before you move. This company is terrible!!!

Had an issue with a payment that was not received due to bank card hack, was charged 30 dollars. One call to a very nice lady got the charge removed and the issue resolved. Have had service with co-op for 38 years, never had an issue that wasnt resolved quickly and to my satisfaction. Wish insurance companies worked as well.

While they claim to help those who cant pay bill during pandemic by not disconnecting services, I believe that they are doing so partly at the expense of the customers who are paying their bills on time; by doing slight prices increases. Although there are days that I do not use heat or air because I am not at my residence, I have still experienced a slight uptick in my monthly billing starting with the latter part of last summer. This is taking into account the number of billing days in each cycle.

Been paying my bills with them since 1992. from apt. life to homeowner life. love the co op meetings in November. well oiled ran operation. all my electric bills have been reasonable for 28 years. During t.s and hurricanes when power goes out they try to fix it outages as soon as they can. also, every time a street light gets burned out in the neighborhood the crews try to fix it. like Tony Beets says ASAP.

Berkeley electric is trying to play catch up on triming trees and now are doing in my opinion a lot of damage to trees and in our case putting our home and property in harms way. They butchered a 80 plus foot pine behind our property and now its weak and swings in the wind like a flag pole ready to topple every time we get a heavy gust of wind. The new manager of Berkeley electric and the forestry manager Adam assured me that they were going to cut it totally down but I think I got the bureaucrat two step and was lied to..Now our home and at least 2 other homes are in danger of the tree falling on our homes...Update: 7/7/20, Berkeley electric is coming back to chop more trees including the pines that were putting our homes and people in danger. In my opinion they are doing too much and doing a terrible job. It is effecting property value and we are selling our home in the next month and even our realtor is shocked and feels like they are just doing too much.I could take hundreds of pictures of areas they need to work on but they pick and choose and are wasting man power and Co Op money that could be used jn much better ways.Last note: This idea of them making you feel like you have a say because its a Co Op is all smoke and mirrors, they do what they want and charge us more for it!!! Im from NY and owned a home there for almost 26 years. I thought NY electric was a lot of money per KWH... we owned a 2800 square foot house in NY and had a 200 amp service with a lot more output electrically and payed at least 75% less in NY than here. Our average electric bill in NY on the highest end was $150-$180, here with Berkeley electric, where we own a modest 1900 square foot home, with a 150 amp service and have a lot less output we are paying on top end $240-$300++... OUTRAGEOUS!!!We should have moved to Texas or Florida to retire!

Took advantage of the Home Advantage Loan Program offered by BEC to replace to my two 18 year old air conditioning units. Bert Walling at BEC was very helpful and walked me through the process. Shout out to Coastal Air Solutions as they did a fabulous job installing the new units.

Auto-pay enrollment doesnt work. All the office seems to do is complain about you rather than help you and theyre never open when you need them to be. Theyre mentality is I dont care -- pay me. Ive been to several utility places in my time and never before have I had such terrible service.

Bunch of crooks. Since when are business hours 8-3? Disconnect my service due to outstanding balance charged to my account after making payment in full. Sign up for auto draft only to be told the bank denied my auto draft and BEC informs me I have to wait a year to reapply for auto draft. Spoke to my bank who does not claim responsibility for the denial of auto draft. Customer service is a joke. Business hours are a joke. Prices are ridiculous!!

Friendly enough folks on the phone but absolutely absurd business practices. Paid almost $250 to have our propane tank filled last fall and then receive a $50 bill this spring as a penalty for not buying enough propane from them within a Nov - Nov period. Never received a notice that we were under the minimum, and while they were more than happy to come out and charge $250 to fill our tank, they didnt bother to point out their minimum usage policy. About like having to pay a gas station an extra $50 because you didnt drive your car enough last year. Guess when companies are more-or-less monopolies they can treat customers however they please.

I have been a BEC member for over 20 years. There was an issue with my hot water heater leaking, and I was in their hot water heater program. I call them at closing time, and they had a plumber call me within 30 minutes. The plumber replaced the hot water the next morning, and wasnt charged a dime. Thank you BEC.

I originally gave a poor mark because I could reach no one by phone nor did my electronic appointment receive acknowledgement. Today, however. I was able to reach a representative. Her guidance as well as the outstanding service I received at the Johns Island office warranted a re-evaluation.

Horrible company that puts children in danger.I moved into a new apartment, and they turned off the electricity on the same day, and refused to turn it on. I called them, and there was nothing they could do to turn my electricity back on, as they cannot set up service over the phone. My child requires medicine that is refrigerated.Due to this, the company is putting my child in danger. The manager had no compassion.If they’re able to turn off the electricity remotely, they should be able to turn it back on remotely, but they refuse to do it until I can go to the office tomorrow morning in person .

Called and talked to a lady 2 weeks ago and explained the situation and she instructed me to fill out an application and they will be out next week. Filled out the app and waited and after 2 weeks, I called and they are now telling me that they arent doing any new installs until March of 2019, when the house that is being built now was waiting on them to show where the tank was going to be. Basically told to kick rocks and sorry about your luck!

Shut service off for being a hour late paid the 30 reconnect fee then had a 500 fee added to my next bill which was 284+500=$784 that they wanted me to come up with in 4 days. These people are nothing but crooks and take every bit of peoples money because they can and no one can do anything about. Seeing as though they are the only electric company that is around my area ......

Have been out of town for the holidays. Noone has used really any power and now this month my bill almost doubles? My thermostat has been cut off the entire time Whats the deal with this???? And its not just me. An entire group of people on Facebook are discussing this matter.

Scam! Complete scam. I had prepaid service and called one day and found out my bill was 220.00. They told me a few payments didnt go through and there was a 35.00 fee. I didnt receive notice of these payments. So I paid the money. The next day my electric gets shut off and they say I owe 240.00 on top of the 220.00 I had just paid. These people are crooked, sinister, and liars. Theyve even went out of there way to attempt to get me in trouble with my rent office. Terrible people, the manager Amy included..

I had an outage at night and they fixed it before 11am the next morning! They had to dig up and splice the lines etc but they did it quickly and made it look good when they finished.

They will shut your service off if you owe 1 cent. Beneficial because it’s prepaid and I pay as I go aggravating because they don’t give any breaks.

We have periods of no Service sometimes every day. I know they are building a new road, but one day we were without all day. I have a Metric heart Meter and it has to be on a phone line at all times. I had one problem but no way to contact the doctor with my heart machine.
