After reading all of these great reviews, I was fairly disappointed in the service I received from Norman Camera a couple of weeks ago. I went in to see if my camera could be fixed and if not, buy a new one. Found out my camera was beyond repair which is what I expected so a new camera was my next step. The woman behind the counter tried her best but she seemed very intimidated by the task of helping me find something to fit my needs and I feel like she didnt ask enough questions to get us on the same page and was kind of just showing me whatever was there. She did explain that the selection was less than what it is normally and I did appreciate the honesty. The biggest problem I had was that I came out of the store more confused than when I came in. And the camera that I was told was unfixable, well its working perfectly again with no outside help.

Daniel, the manager, is amazing! He really helped me find the least expensive deal that still met all the things I was looking for. He is real and down-to-earth PLUS has a ton of camera knowledge!!! Staff was downright rude insisting that I didnt have enough money. I went in to buy a $4k package, but my card kept getting declined because the chip acts up on certain card readers but not others. Which is a common problem and all I have to do is use a different card reader or to swipe it instead. Its just a problem with the type of card that I have and everyone I know who also has that card has the same problem. But the guy that worked the counter kept on asking if I had enough money in my account, and just to double check I looked online, and while I was LITERALLY LOOKING AT MY BANK ACCOUNT that had WELL over enough money in it for the purchase and more, the guy at the counter asked me at least 3 more times if I had enough $. and I told him yes every time. I even called the bank to get my daily limit moved up, but it still got declined. I tried to explain why it was being denied, and asked if there was a different card reader I could try or if I could swipe it but he refused to even listen and said that my chip wasnt the problem and continued to ask if there was enough $ in the account. He didnt listen at all when I told him it was the chip or when I told him I was literally looking at my account and I had well over enough.The bank was closed since it was past 5 and the ATMs have limits. I went to the bank the next day and asked them what was wrong and not surprisingly they told me my chip malfunctioned. so I was right. I got cash out because I wasnt going to mess with it again. and had to make the FIFTY MINUTE DRIVE trip back to normans because some rude employee wont listen and let me use a different card reader.I understand that the chip not woking is not their fault but at least let me try the different card reader or try to swipe. and for the love of god its so rude to ask someone if they have enough money! I mean come on!! especially since I told him I was looking at my account and I definitelyhad enough.So no I wont be returning. They have a better selection than the kalamazoo location but the staff is so rude its not worth it the 50 min drive.

I called Norman Camera because I needed to replace my entire speedlight system due to my pocket wizard being discontinued and just wanted to totally upgrade. I called and initially spoke to Cooper who let me know what he suggested and he got me set up with a great system, he placed it on hold for me and when I came in Adam set up everything for me with my camera so I was all set to go. The help was super appreciated and the gear works incredibly. I had to shoot entirely indoors at a huge wedding yesterday and everything work fantastic! Thanks for all the help guys!

Amazing service! I went in to look for a full frame lens since I finally made the jump to full frame and Michael went above and beyond my expectations and let me try out a ton of different lenses and got me one that would meet my needs. Also, he gave me a very honest opinion on which Røde mic I should go with. I would highly recommend stopping by and taking a look at what they have! The prices there are also quite a good deal.

I went to Norman Camera because I wanted a camera to work for what I needed to do- I knew I needed their expertise to purchase something that would work for me, not for someone to just get a sale like the big box stores. Everyone that Norman was awesome. I mostly dealt with Jake and even though it wasnt a big sale (I wasnt buying a super expensive camera), he spent more than enough time figuring out what my needs were and finding something in my budget and would produce results. I went against his camera suggestion at first and regretted it right away. He worked with me to get the correct camera (the one he suggested at first) and I couldnt be happier. I will definitely be suggesting Norman Camera to people I know.

My old D 60 Nikon had seen better days. Wasnt sure whether to put $500.00 into a camera that would take clearer pics. I bought a Nikon D 3500 from them and I am very pleased with the camera. Extremely clear. The price is only a few dollars more than Amazon, but Id rather be able to take my camera to Normans if anything goes wrong with it.

Very knowledgeable staff, spent close to an hour answering all my questions and reviewing different camera options even though I was up front about not planning on buying anything.Full disclosure, I did end up buying a new camera but part of why I went there was to figure out what one would be best for me. BUT, I was talked out of buying a more expensive camera and he explained why it wasnt a good fit for my type of photography.

Adam the sales associate made us wait 20 plus minutes to only find out that his other sales associate sold our order to another customer that came in after us. The customer that bought our equipment came to our counter that we had all of our accessories on and just started picking through our stuff. Mean while Adam was hiding out in the back doing nothing to help us out. Mike the manager was sitting at his desk in the back didnt come out and explain what was going on.Adam came out of the back storage area to explain that the unit was sold and gave no apologizes for the long wait and for his coworker for selling it right in front of us. The worst customer service I had ever seen in a long time. I normally dont write bad reviews only good ones but this one just was over the top. Called Mike today and he was conveniently in a meeting. waiting for a call back. Just for your info went to Best Buy and got all of the identical equipment for $300 less. Free shipping!!! My wife has done business with Norman Camera for over 15 years and she was absolutely appalled.

My mom surprised me with a visit for my Christmas present and he helped us get the most amazing deals, we walked in expecting a lense and we left with a lense, new camera, video recording system, a printer and paper for an amazing price! Retail store prices are necessarily high, and I can nearly always find what I want on line for less- but such purchases are a gamble. A purchase at Norman Camera is not.Although I only make occasional small purchases there, Norman Camera has always welcomed my questions and responded with clear, detailed, complete answers If necessary, they explain in non-technical terms to be sure the customer understands. They know their stuff and are willing to help a customer. If I lived closer to GR, I would love to take a photography class here. I dont know of anywhere else I could get my questions answered so promptly, courteously, and professionally.

This is where you need to go to purchase or replace any camera or camera equipment. The sales staff is highly knowledgeable and very helpful. They dont work on commission so they help you find the item that best suits your needs instead of up selling you to the most expensive product. They are very trustworthy and reliable.

After doing extensive research online to choose my first DSLR, I noticed that the prices on Amazon were no better than at Norman Camera - so I might as well go in person to get a feel for the camera before buying.I ended up having SO MUCH FUN buying the camera from Norman. I got great help from Adam - he was encouraging without pressuring at all. He simply shared his love of photography and assumed that I wanted to learn how to love taking great pictures too.Thanks to promotions that are only available in professional photo stores, I ended up getting a free printer with my purchase, a free memory card, and a free case as well - so I ended up getting a WAY better deal than I would have on Amazon.But again, the point is that I had fun making a big purchase ... I was grinning ear-to-ear while I was there and for hours after.From now on, I will buy all of my photo stuff from Norman. Theyre awesome!

Over priced periodInstead of doing research I way over paid for a used lens. I could have bought the same lens for $100.00 less. I probably will never go back there.Salesman was a little condescending when I asked for a break on the price. I should have left right then but I need it. Not the best experience in a camera store. My advice is go to the shop across town. It has better prices and better customer service

I called ahead to save myself the drive. Adam said they could fix it in house if not THEY would send it out, and told me to come in. Jake helped me when I got there and said they DO NOT fix in house and that I should just replace it.They need to get together and figure out what their store actually does and if it doesn’t repair, take that job title off of their website. The staff at Norman camera are very knowledgeable and the store has a great selection of equipment for professionals, amateurs, and hobbyists. The problem with buying photo gear online is that you cannot see the gear in person, feel it, and get a good idea of how it will work with what you already have. I also prefer to buy local because sales tax and shipping cost about the same, but at least sales tax helps support Michigan and can be used to fix our roads, instead of paying for a truck to drive on our roads and damage them.

I’ve been to this shop a couple of times in the past couple of months as I’ve tried to persuade my department to go with a mirrorless camera set up for crime scene evidence/investigation. I must say I felt rushed the first time. The second time I was completely overlooked and customers that came in after me were helped. I love the inventory that the store carry but I also learned my lesson. I’ll look on web sites and use my local store here in muskegon to get what we need. One star from me.

I have been a devoted shopper at Normans camera for about 3 years and have spent thousands of dollars in their store until today2 weeks ago I stopped in their store to purchase a new tripod and rent some lenses for a wedding I had to shoot. I purchased a nice tripod and got some rates on lens rentals. The tripod had a defect so I thought I would bring it in with me when I went to rent the lenses.My wife (who shoots with me) asked if she could stop in near close the night before to pick up the lenses since the wedding was an all day event. she was emphatically told no as it would be another day rentalWe showed up the morning of the wedding, already kind of in a hurry when we approached the counter. somebody was already at the system for rentals (which he tied up for at least 15-20 mins) so I thought I would discuss the tripod. Nobody could find record of purchase in the new system and after the sales rep talked to the manager in the back room (who we never saw) conveniently stopped talking to us about the tripod. So on to the rental. On this, the day of the wedding, I was told at last minute that they would be placing a hold on my debit card for the total value of the lenses. This would mean the the rental I believed would cost a couple hundred dollars would now be taking about 3,000 dollars out of my account (which only has a few hundred dollars in it) When I mentioned to the sales rep that I was never told of this cost, he flat out told me I was mistaken. I was nearly in tears with rage. My wife who was along for all trips to and from this store as a witness told him the same, he still never admitted he made a mistake. and after waiting already about 20 minutes to resolve these issues the associate said he would discuss this with the manager in the back. Another 10 minutes I left with a broken tripod, no lenses and running late for this wedding. I never did see a manager, and I was never treated like a valued customerBottom line: if you have a bad experience, dont expect good customer service or expect to see a manager.I will not ever be shopping at Normans again after this experience.

I walked into the store with my camera in hand and headed toward the counter (nobody greeted me), I stood there for about five minutes as employees passed by helping other customers, another five minutes passed as a salesman was finishing up with his customer. I made direct eye contact with him many times while standing at the counter waiting for service. Nevertheless he ignored me and went to serve an older gentleman instead of myself. At this point I was getting very antsy, I started to looking into all of the cases to make it obvious I wanted to look at a lense but that still did not help. As ten more minutes passed by and two more employees ignored me and went onto other customers. I dont know if this is some kind of profiling thing or if this is a training issue but I will never be returning to Norman. I wanted to support a local business but its not worth the horrible service, I suggest the best buy at Centerpoint instead. They were very kind and let me test out lenses and very honest and helpful when narrowing down my choice. Not to mention I stood there for about 30 seconds before getting help whereas I stood for 30 minutes at Normans and got nothing.

I have spent a lot money here. Seriously, enough to buy a new car, yet I will sometimes go in and wait 20-30 minutes before a salesperson speaks to me. I am usually shopping for pro equipment, not consumer stuff. I have very specific questions that are fairly technical, so I can imagine the questions are harder to answer. The problem I have is that my questions are often answered incorrectly. When the salesperson doesnt know the answer, they either guess, or not answer. All of my questions have been regarding products in the store, so I dont know why I stump them with questions. Recently I was sold about $1500 worth of Manfrotto stuff. Camera plates didnt match up. The equipment looked demoed or used, and I was refused any discount. I bought equipment I didnt want based on incorrect advice from sales staff, and then it was incompatible. I think if you are getting into photo and video, the place is alright. Be prepared to be talked down to. Over the years I have had several sales staff treat me as though I am lucky to have them speak with me. I am a 10 year customer, but after this last experience, I think I am done shopping there.

I bought my first digital camera from the K-zoo store (Canon Digital Rebel) and have been now shopping the Grand Rapids store for past 3 years since moving back (to GR area). Staff has been very helpful.There is one whos personality rubs me the wrong way, but simply steer clear. Ive worked retail in my younger years myself, so have sympathy for that sort of immaturity (condescending/know it all sort).Currently shooting the 5D mk III and Sigma 35 1.4 as my latest purchases here. And yes, I could have gotten better deals online, but rather thankful I can walk in and be greeted as a known buyer and have candid conversations around equipment.Also, they are always welcome to me trying out lenses on my camera body as I work through ideas on next len(s) to buy. Never any pressure, and I always seem to gain some more insight into the lenses as I walk/talk with them about my needs/desires.

Another camera store going the way of the dinosaur. They dont have much here for professional gear and everything is way overpriced. Not to mention, I received rude service today; I will not be coming back. Amazon!UPDATE: After taking my Canon 80D with two lenses, all in perfect condition with warranty, accessories etc., the rude woman at Norman Camera (after making me wait 10+ min) offered me $500 for everything and then before I could even object said she in fact didnt even want them. In a pinch before a photography trip around the world, I decided to check Marks Camera on Division and was pleasantly surprised with their selection of full frame lenses and I happily traded everything for nearly double the offer which Norman Camera gave. I also was able to buy a brand new Sony Zeiss 16-35, btw Norman didnt seem to carry any full frame zeiss or Canon glass. So I also trusted Marks Camera with developing some very old film I had found from the 1950s. I look forward to working with them in the future and NOT having to resort to Amazon or to put up with needlessly rude service or outrageous pricing! Amen.
