What a great afternoon kayaking the Maumee river. We are from out of state so didnt have our kayaks with u but wanted to spend some time on the river. These Kayaks were better than a lot of places you can rent, though one of our yaks was at times was hard to steer. But the rest of our group had no issues. The employees were very nice and I felt safe being transported to and from the river. I would recommend to anyone who is curious on trying out kayaking and does not have their own.
Is this place open? I havent been able to contact them by phone or online. Any info would be great!
Wonderful Kayaking Trip with amazing views, it was all inclusive so nothing to worry about except paddling down the river
This place is no longer open. The new business under new ownership is Maumee River Outfitters.
The staff are helpful, knowledgeable and genuine! I had a great time here. They are very generous to our veterans with discounts with their rentals. I highly recommend..
We had a great kayak tour of the Muamee River and flower gathering. Sofia was very nice and accommodating. Would definitely recommend Riverlures.
Great day, from the very first staff member behind the counter, to the shuttle driver to the crew getting us in and out of the water. Awesome experience, great price. U guys rock! July 4, 2020, 130p ish.
Local guide here! I can tell you this is the place for an awesome family adventure! Take the day and kayak and swim and explore the Mighty Maumee River! Puts you in and picks you up when your are done! Great owner and staff! Great time for a family adventure!!
We came for our wedding anniversary and they were closed. I checked the website before we came and it said it was open on weekends from 11 to 5. He said he had just taken out a group that had made reservations earlier but the water was too cold to be safe so he wouldn’t take us out. I’m surprised he would take a large trip out if it wasn’t safe. When I asked him about the website, saying they were open, he said “Oh I guess I better change that.”
Staff was very nice, prompt service, informative, our first time kayaking, had a great experience. Would highly recommend to friends and plan to return.
Just leaving a 5-star review for Tim. His willingness to help and give me some good info on the river helped me complete my Fort Wayne to Toledo kayaking trip.
Called the day before to make reservations for 7 and they said they don’t take them. Get there at 1:30 and and told we have to wait, but given evasive answers as to why a group of 10 somehow made a reservation for 2 and they get to go before us. Unfortunately the owner had chosen to operate the business with all children and no adult supervision. Couldn’t get a straight answer until the owner showed up, only to be lied to AGAIN as to how long the wait would be. Gave up and we all left, so shouldn’t even give 1 star since I never even got on the river. Waste of an afternoon.
We arrived at 10am on a Saturday morning and were quickly assisted in an efficient manner. The staff at the desk were very nice and helpful as well as the woman who gave us our life jackets. The one star detracted was due to the fact that the end point and general rules werent well explained. We had two people in our group who had never kayaked before and in my previous experience, most companies give a quick description and over view of how things will go but this didnt happen. They put those 2 in the water before I could ask the end point and rules so they had no idea. The driver asked who had done this before while on our way to the start point and only a minority of the group raised their hands. Also, they jammed 3 different groups into one van (~12ppl). Considering current events, they really need to keep it one family per seat row which did not happen. If youre being cautious about covid, I cant recommend you participate in this activity due to that reason.
My family and I got here right as the doors were supposed to open at 10:00 AM. We waited outside the doors for 30 minutes and in the meantime we called and got sent right to voicemail. Their website said that they were open and yet no one was inside and no lights were on. There was another group of people who were waiting in line with us that were also trying to get ahold of the place. Eventually a lady that was waiting in line asked the neighbors of the place and the neighbors said that they were closed the day before too. All I have to say is if you are not going to be open put something on your website before making people drive all their way to wait for something that’s not going to happen.
Great river with small rapids... Very relaxing... Just stay to the left
Very knowledgeable about kayaking and the Maumee River. They very helpful in reassuring the safety and quality of our experience.
Great time on the Muddy Maumee. Everyone at Riverlures is freindly and helpful. Highly recommended.
Would strongly recommend this business implement booking software to improve their process. The staff was in a state of complete and utter disorganization and confusion, there were no adults to be found. Our group waited for 3 hours and never kayaked. I called multiple days in advance in an attempt to reserve kayaks, and was told that kayaks were only available on a “first come, first serve basis”. We then watched on as multiple groups who arrived after ours, “with reservations” were helped into their kayaks. Great concept, very poor execution.
Had a wonderful time today. The entire staff was friendly and positive.
Great way to spend an afternoon, and the surrounding city has great dining options!
This is my go-to company for a kayaking day trip with friends. The prices are reasonable and the staff are helpful. We have had no trouble “bringing our own fun” and choosing routes that fit our skill level (exceedingly low, more sightseeing and socializing than actual kayaking). Shuttle service makes everything all the more convenient.
Went there to buy 3 kayaks. The guy was very knowledgeable about what type of kayak that I should get for what I wanted to do in the kayak. He was able to explain to me what the differences were between the different types and brands. He also gave us a lot of information on what to do and not to do out on the water because he kayaks himself. I recommend that anyone that isnt sure of what they want to get to go talk to him first.
After reading the reviews here, I was a bit wary of trying to do a kayak trip from here. But I really wanted to try it so we drove down from Toledo, hoping for the best. When we arrived, the only employees in the shop were several teenagers. When I stepped up to the counter, the girl said all their kayaks had been rented already and that none of their vans were working so they weren’t doing any transport. When I asked about coming back later to rent a kayak, the girl told me that the kayaks were going to be gone all day and referred me to their Farnsworth location... We decided to have lunch at La Roe’s then walk to the dam. While walking, we noticed a ton of kayaks available now at Riverlures, about an hour later... By that time we were fed up. Too bad. I was really excited to try kayaking. The owner of this business needs to take note of the behavior of their teenage employees. They lost business and referrals from me as well as a good number of other people on Google reviews.
Very nice people! Had an awesome time! River was slow and the heat was a bit much on the day we went but still had a great time. I highly recommend this business for your kayaking, and fishing needs!
This was our second trip and it was again very enjoyable. However, there needs to be specific directions as to where to get off... AT the 475 bridge to the left, directly under the bridge. There were several goups exiting before the correct spot. They stated they received no instructions except get off at the 475 bridge and we only knew where to go as we had done this before.
Very nice option in the area to enjoy what the Maumee River has to offer. Friendly staff and very reasonable price. A great outdoor activity with family, friends or even alone if you are comfortable on the water. Different distance to adapt to you capabilities; from 6 miles the shortest to up to more than 10 miles. Try it, its fun.
Whether taking a trip down river or in the market for a new kayak, River Lures is the only stop to make. They offer exceptional customer service, are extremely knowledgeable, and have the areas largest selection of name brand kayaks. I personally purchased my kayak, a wilderness systems ride 135, from them and over the past couple years I have been back numerous times to get my kayak properly outfitted for fishing purposes.
We havent gone yet well see tomorrow.
The new owners were amazing people. We had to wait for boats for our group, and they fed us unicorn ice cream cake and popsicles while we waited.
They have boat rentals and friendly courteous employees. It makes for a great adventure along the Maumee River. I am an outdoor adventure YouTube creator, and this is a great way to rent a canoe and see the scenic view of the Maumee👍 just search my name on YouTube
OMG, my family and I love this place!!! My kids cant get enough and they are always asking to come back. River Lures is super fun, the is staff very friendly and helpful. The best place to get your kayaks and kayaking needs in the Toledo area. We look forward to coming back every year....
We stopped in after discovering last minute we were missing the plug for our boat. Luckily they found one that worked and helped us out to get us on our way!
Great, friendly, family atmosphere. Perfect day on river!
I went their on a Saturday for kayaking. The staff was very friendly and a joy to talk to. Very helpful and knowledgeable. Would go back for more fun.
I used to love this place. They have kids working that dont know what they are doing. They dont know anything about the kayak. And I asked the price of a kayak they didnt know how much it was. Sad to see.
Easy rental, kayaks were nice, price wasnt bad. The exit point isnt very clear, and we probably wouldve missed it if it werent for some other kayakers pointing it out to us. But its relatively easy to get out. I did it myself with a child, and my 13 year old got out on his own. You have to call to have them pick you up, so you have to take your phone with you. There was a communication snafu when we called, so we ended up waiting 45 mins, but they were apologetic. The river trip itself is very nice, beautiful, and relaxing. Would come back again and do the longer trip.
Awesome place to buy kayaks! The excitement of the pro-staff for their products is all the sales pitch you will need.
Great Kayak selection to choose fromSales staff are great. They make you feel comfortable and not rushed or pushed into a decision.
I rate this bisiness a negative *Horrible practice of running a business. Small hometown businesses shouldnt treat anyone bad, let alone their own! Id rather drive 60 minutes away versus 8 just to take my business to where its appreciated.
I have always had really good experiences here, but the Management this year has made the experience horrible!!! I will not return as long as Dylan is the Manager. He left us stranded on the bank for several hours, due to a mistake made by his staff. Thankfully, another employee eventually was able to help us. The manager was not going to help us, he never apologized and when I tried to let him know that he was disrespectful, he became very rude and dismissive.
River lures is a fantastic time. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Cant wait to go back!
Staff was friendly and helpful when it came to instructing us on how to kayak. Nice area, loved kayaking on the locks
People are very helpful and know their business excellent service.l will be going there again.
About 1 pm Friday, I stopped by the Front St location, which was in the process of closing. They explained that the water was too low, but advised that I got to Farnsworth Park, which they also managed. I explicitly asked what time they allowed customers to leave for the Farnsworth Park to Side Cut Park trip and was told 5 pm.After doing a bit more in Grand Rapids, we drove to Farnsworth Park, arriving at 4:15. The person their said that they were not sending anyone else out because they were out of waiver forms?!? and refused to get more because they would not allow anyone to start the trip after 4:30. (The website notes that they also do hourly rentals and were open until 7 pm.) He only offered a discount if we returned the next day, which our travel plans did not permit.Call ahead before making the trip to make sure that they are open and have waiver forms on hand.
Great day on the river!
Everyone down at river lures is awesome, they are very warm and welcoming. They have the best kayaks around toledo and always show you a good time
They take care of everything as long as you dont miss your take out point.
Rented a tandum kayak and the directions for take out were very minimal...like we would see it but there is an island and we were on the wrong side of it. Four other kayakers who rented from them did the same thing. Need to be signs or shown a map when you sign the release form. Sounded like a common problem. Disappointed.
Great kayaks fun trip only offering short 5 mile trips as of right now
Very nice staff, and quick to fix any issues.
Do not plan a trip with family. The new owners will not allow access to their property to pick up privately owned kayaks, even when renting additional kayaks from them.
Kayaking is a great way to get exercise and enjoy nature.
Had a great time canoeing. Make sure you take lunch, as nothing available there.
I love this place, pretty good prices and very friendly.
Great place to shop for kayaks and kayak accessories staff is always been great great place to rent Kayaks to go down the river staff will drop you off at a drop off point you would kayak down the river and they will pick you up for a fair price great place to go if youre looking for a little Adventure in the river
