I had a great time at the boathouse today from start to finish, despite a few minor mishaps that Im willing to blame on it being opening day.The boathouse itself is a small REI store which mainly sells things you would want on the water, such as sunscreen, hats, and water bottles. This is also where you sign your rental agreement. They take your name, your email, and your phone number so they can call you if youre out for too long after the end of your rental (they provide dry bags at the beach).Once youre done with the rental agreement, you move over to the cashier. In my opinion, the prices for REI members are very reasonable.From there, its a short walk to the beach, where they give you a PFD. These are supposed to be one size fits all - and maybe they are - but mine felt very tight when I put it on and wasnt much better after they helped me adjust it. At this point, you also have the option to get a dry bag (large or small - either way, its more than likely big enough for anything you could bring on the water with you). I was also given a bilge pump for my kayak, and I imagine these are also offered with canoes and paddle boats. They take your ID (make sure you bring it with you) and then help you set off.The experience on the lake is pretty good, but it could be better. Theres a pretty big area for the rentals - and they seemed to have a do it at your own risk mentality for going past the no wake zone buoys - but they also warn you to steer clear of the boat launching ramp, which significantly decreases the size of this area.I was incredibly happy with the rental and I will definitely be back soon.
