Salon feedback: Hands down the worst cut & color Iβve ever had. The gentleman who βcut my hair β insisted it had previously been razor cut. I informed him my hair has always been cut with scissors, never by razor. He proceeded to razor cut my long hair. It sounded like he was ripping my hair. It didnβt look bad, at first. But as days went by, I noticed a lot of fly aways. Long story short: I learned you donβt razor cut long hair. Why? Fly-aways and you can damage the hair shaft if cut at a deep angle. This person was also inept at hair color. I wanted my highlights freshened up. I asked for warm to match what I had. What I got was ashy, flat highlights. I will not be returning.
I got my hair done in the salon with Nicole and Im over the moon about it. Nicole was great to work with. I did a massive change with my hair color and length and Nicole talked me through the entire experience. She gave me tips on how to properly care for my new hair color and its been a week and Im still obsessed with my hair. All the rest of the staff members were extremely nice and helpful.

Hair stylist Mia Williams π !!! I had a keratin treatment done by her at Ulta - Gurnee location. Her whole demeanor throughout my appointment was professional and calming. I came in 100mph from work, minutes in the appointment I was relaxed. She was gentle with my hair, I will definitely be coming back.
Horrible experience, I was a sales manager for a retail store for many many years. Never ever once would I have ever allowed employees to gossips on the sales floor in front of other customers! I was waiting for someone to ask me for help (no one did). While I was waiting I over heard one employee (I asked her name before I left, karley) talking and gossiping about another employee (sounded like it was a manager)β¦ horrible. Horrible. Horrible! Not only was I waiting for help TRYING to catch their eye but then I also get to overhear the drama going on in the store? Really? Clearly these two employees care more about drama then taking care of customer. I would have never allowed this in my store.. when I asked for the GM I was told she was on vacation.. clearly she was as no employee were working. Horrible, shame on you all. I left after waiting 10 mins for help and drove 30mins to the McHenry Ulta. I was helped within minis of walking in and everyone was friendly. Awesome job McHenry, shame on you gurney!!!
Im always greeted and asked how I am doing, they dont hound you which is great, and when you do need help they are ready! I wanted a new Nyx product and a nice man tried to look for it for me, and then he went to the extent of checking the back and found me it! It was the only one there too so Im so grateful he got it for me! The cashier was very friendly and helpful! Store is clean and organized and the associates are great with helping you find dupes for things they dont have :) going to Ulta is my happy place and I love going there!
I love my stylist, Kelly, who is also the Salon Manager here at Ulta in Gurnee. I highly recommend her because she is incredibly talented and truly cares about her clients.I have been seeing her for several years, and I keep coming back because, first and foremost, my hair cut and color is always beautiful, clean and consistent. I know what I like and I like what I know. My natural hair-color is so blah and the highlights add dimension and glow. I get so many compliments. But even one time, we tried something different with my bangs and I went home and wasnt happy...so I asked to come back and she gladly reshaped my cut to make it just right! Kelly puts her clients first and truly cares about delivering exceptional service.As a person, Kelly is very kind and friendly, witty and interesting, and a good listener! I enjoy seeing her on a personal level as much as I enjoy getting my hair done. Admittedly, I think Ulta services are probably pricier than other salons, but I make room in the budget because for the quality of my service from Kelly and the quality of the Redken products she uses, its well worth the cost.

I went into Ulta looking for a specific gift for someone. After not seeing the product besides in a sample, I went up to the registers to ask if they would be anywhere else in the store. The girl (I did not get her name) stepped off of her position on the register to help me look for the product. They were out of stock, so she showed me comparable products in the store and told me to let her know if I needed anything else, and also offered to order the product for me. I really appreciated her taking the time to help me and offering me alternatives as an option. I wish I would have gotten her name but I wanted to write a review to shout out her great customer service.
Good selection of hair care products. Usually have good sales/promotions. Ulta line also has some quality items. Cons: do not give samples (would be helpful for skin care) and difficult to get assistance most times on the floor.
I do my best not to shop at ultra because the customer service at all locations is really lacking, but this location is the absolute worst. I have never had a good experience here. Yesterday I walked in around 6pm and was not greeted. I wandered through the aisles looking for a specific brand, and while several employees looked right at me, none of them asked if I needed assistance. Then I went to the checkout counter and had to wait a minute while the employees at the counter finished gossiping to notice me. I asked about the return policy and was dismissed in favor of the cashier continuing their conversation. Then he finally addressed my question by stating the policy hasnβt changed. I paid and wasnβt acknowledged on the way out either, since they just had to get back to their conversation about another employee flirting with someone. The employees here treat it like high school. Iβm all for having fun at work, but at least make an attempt to acknowledge the customers.
Id love you, like 5 stars love you if you hired sales floor people who were passionate about the beauty community and all the products. Im tired of coming into Ulta and seeing a dead sales floor and when I finally get someone to help me they act like I should have googled everything at home before coming to the store. So if I do that, if I educate myself on the products and no one assists me, can I get an employee discount please?
Needed to complete an even exchange for shampoo. Called the store and spoke with Claudia and she was able to stay open an extra 5min past closing time just to allow me to exchange. Such great customer service from Claudia and Gracie at this location! Above and beyond to take care of their customers. I appreciate you! :)
My five star rating is based on the salon service. The girl who does my hair is incredible. Honest, full of ideas, and just does a great job. Pricey? Probably. But worth it. The store itself is great. Every product you could dream of is there. That said, PRICEY. Ive found better deals on Amazon. Still they have plenty of staff to find beauty products you didnt even know you needed. Not sure what concealer or toner matches your complexion? Most weekends they have make-up gurus just for that.
They tried their best to help me but didnt have what I needed. Not from lack of trying.
If I could give this place negative stars I would. The customer service here is absolutely the WORST. The amount of times I call for a product check and get put on hold for longer than 10 minutes and then get hung up on is ridiculous. I have NEVER left a bad review in my life but this is absolutely insane. I never have an issue calling the Vernon Hills location and theyve always been super helpful there. Ive worked in customer service and retail and food service my whole life and it is not that hard to write down a phone number and call back if you get disconnected. When I was at the Vernon location earlier they initially called for me and had the same problem with not picking up. So I tried myself over 2 hours later and got put on hold. Then hung up on. Then called 3 more times and was hung up on before even talking with someone. Each. Time. Not sure why this place has as many issues as it does but no wonder the rating for this location is so low.
Love the salon! Kelly has been cutting and coloring my hair for years. She always does a superior job! She is also friendly, helpful, and funny. I drive about 40 min to have her as a stylist. I highly recommend Kelly.

I have regularly had my hair done at this Ulta for over ten years. Ana in the salon is amazing, I constantly get complimented! Everyone at the Benefit Brow Bar does impeccable work as well. Very friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful remodel! Easy and fun to shop!
When I walked into this particular Ulta location, no one greeted me. Instead all I got was stares. Ive never had this issue at any other Ulta store Ive been to. You can tell right away as one of the other reviews previously stated they dont seem to be big on diversity... I went over to one of the young ladies who was so engaged in her conversation with another employee that when I asked her If they carried an item, she acted like I was bothering her. She told me she didnt know if they had the item and then proceeded to continue her conversation with the other employee. She didnt even offer to try and find out if they carried it. No one said anything else to me. Instead they just followed me with their eyes as if they thought I would steal something. Im a paying customer and I deserve quality customer service just like anyone else. Whoever the GM is of this store needs to re-train their employees how to properly assist customers. I expected so much better. Wont be returning any time soon.
Everyone was really friendly when I walked in, especially the tall gentleman who seemed like the manager, he was walking around and made sure everyone was finding everything alright. I went to look for some lashes and noticed a sale sticker, I was excited for this find. Until I got to the register and I asked the cashier Miguel if my lashes came up to the ticket price. He said they might have been misplaced... I let him know for future reference that there were many there... just so other customers wouldnt be confused. He proceeded to tell someone over the mic... When he told his coworker he basically made it seem like I was making this up. I went back to double check and as I go to the aisle another worker was leaving the aisle letting the guy know that there were no lashes there! I went back because they were basically being rude about this whole situation. Having side conversations as if I was not standing in front of them. I told him I would bring up the sticker because it was clearly there and said for sure.. Brought it up and was taking a while reading this sticker... his response was it was probably suppose to be for falsies. Next time he should have a better attitude and be as helpful as possible to make this a great experience for all. He should represent Ulta better.

What in the world happened to customer service here?? No wonder I avoid coming here anymore. The only reason I stopped by, was because Target ran out of my face cleanser. I was never greeted when I first walked in, wandered the aisles for 5 mins without anyone asking me I needed help finding anything. I made it to the register, and Janelle, who checked me out never even asked if I found anything okay, or even said hello, and just proceeded to ask me what my telephone number was. Management needs to learn how to properly train their employees in customer service, because it is a huge turnoff.

One star is too many. Register people are fine but the managers know nothing, look at the register screen and you just blankly and dont even say sorry for THEIR mistake. Ill take that drive to Wisconsin everytime. They greet me, appreciate me and make me feel good. Id be happy to elaborate to anyone who would like more information.

Usually have a good or decent experience here but not today. I feel that if youre in customer service then do your or job and serve your customers. If you dont like what you do then quit and find something else. Upon checking out Adriana cashier rude and basically chucked my bag at me. I will happily drive to Vernon hills in the future.
Ive been getting my hair done by the salon manager Kelly for 5 years now. I change my hair color near monthly and she always does amazing work while making sure all my hair doesnβt break off. I definitely recommend.
This review is for the store and not the salon, which I havent visited. This Ulta location has a very good selection of prestige brands. I had a brow wax at the Benefit Brow Bar in addition to shopping. Chloe did a nice job on my brows and helped me select the right color of brow products. The staff are not overly aggressive as can sometimes happen, but they did seem helpful as I was asked several times if I was finding everything I needed.
My goodness this brow bar at this Ulta is FANTASTIC. Evelyn and Katie do great jobs. Evelyn is my favorite because she is really big on thick luscious brows....but Katie is awesome too. If u are looking for a great brown....THE BUCK STOPS HERE! Ill never go anywhere else!
Got my makeup done here for military ball. The stylist did a wonderful job! If you ever want to get your makeup done, it is done by appointment and you must book ASAP in advance... I mean months because their schedules do get packed fast!

This is my first time getting my hair colored at the salon in Ulta. I got my hair colored back in April at a different salon and was not happy with the color. I made an appointment with Erin at Ulta to get my hair balayaged. She did an amazing job! Highly recommend her!!
Was shopping for hair spray, Casey came out and was giving me all kinds of great hair product info, booked an appointment with her for a cut and style, absolutely loved it! What an amazing stylist! Wont be going to anyplace else again! Highly recommend!!

No one asked if I needed help. I couldnt find what I was looking for. When I finally found it, it was in the wrong spot with a damaged package. When I went to go check out, there was only 1 cashier. I walked out not using points because I forgot about them. She didnt ask if I wanted to use them. I am not happy with this location.
I got my Hair trimmed by Sarah. She did an amazing job. She listened to what I wanted and left my hair feeling softer than ever! I highly recomend!

I made an appointment for a full foil highlight (blonde highlights) with a hair stylist. It was my first visit at this Salon and based on some of the reviews... I was not sure how it would be. I went to my appointment and had a full highlight on a Saturday evening. The hair stylist was Megan. When it was completed--it seemed a little darker than it should but I thought maybe it was just the lighting, although I did mention this to her. The next day, I realized the blonde highlights were not only too dark, they were also a little too brassy for my taste. I called the salon and spoke with the stylist. She was very nice and requested I come in so she could determine what could be done to correct the color. She and her Manager discussed the options to correct the color; she eventually decided to complete a new foil highlight. The highlights look great now. Everyone was very nice and courteous. Megan was very accommodating, polite and kind. It was a very positive experience for me.

Yesterday was my nieces wedding and due to a series of minor disasters my hair plans fell through and I wound up leaving all of my makeup 70 miles away. I was sitting in the Gurnee Mills parking lot crying when I googled Ulta near me, and Erin and Linia saved me. Erin did a beautiful updo. Just gorgeous! She set me up with Linia at the MAC counter and she did a beautiful job on my makeup. The manager is also super friendly and all staff were helpful! Thanks, ULTA!

I love Ulta I love spending money and getting stuff I dont need but I also like the experience and being asked if I need help. Today I went and this lady talked to everyone hey can I help you, do you need help blah blah. Not once did she ask me or even acknowledge me ! Which really upsetted me cause I did have a question. Then the girl at the register was just uninviting. This has happened more than once thats why Im giving such a low rating.

I have been coming here for about five years and noticed I would always get ignored. I finally said something because,my best friend noticed that the associates would just look at me and turn the other way. I was in the store for an hour but no associate ever bothered to ask for help. I refuse to ever shop at this location, I hope management retrains their Associates in hospitality. Please avoid this store theyre not big on diversity if you know what I mean. Talk to manager she did help but, not sure if any results will show.

It was my first time visiting an Ulta and I was so excited! I went in and within 10 minutes I was approached by a woman who asked what I was looking for. I told her I wanted to find a facial peel and some eyebrow tools. She looked and me and said I needed more that a peel to fix my super oily skin. She told me I didnt know how to apply any makeup and completely insulted my entire makeup routine! She told me that I probably bought the Cheap makeup and needed to buy all sorts of products because I needed that much help. She then told me that my eyebrows were horrible and that I needed to get them trimmed and needed to put a new product on them. She said that whatever I put on them made them look blotchy and then once again insulted me on how I applied my makeup. She ended up handing me a handful of products that she said would help me out and I ended up putting them all back because I was so insulted! She definitely could have approached it better! If this is what Ulta stands for then count me out!!!!
Spent over a hundred dollars here and no free gift even at counter. Prob will not return. Then offered 20% off if I open a credit card. Really? So that means there is a discretionary 20 percent off allowed but only for a credit card? I think a free gift would have gotten me to return but I can get everything cheaper on eBay so bye ulta!

Walked in to the salon, made an appointment for eyebrows for the same day but for 20 minutes later or so. When the time came for my appointment no one seemed to be around. I waited for a good 30 minutes then decided to walk out instead of sitting there and wasting more of my time. Its unacceptable for them to make you an appointment and then ignore you. Definitely will not be going back there ever!!!!!!!!!!

Poor service so they open at 10 and I got to the door 9:58 or 9:59 carrying my daughter and one of them comes to the door to open it and the other 10 just standing around tell her not to let me in until 10 that is disrespectful in so many levels luckily someone else not a part of those comes over and says seriously for two minutes shes carrying a baby so thank you for her and as for the other you disgust me. The ditziness is real .

I have been a Platinum member for the two years my husband and I have lived here, which is the first time I have ever lived near an Ulta. I get my and my stepdaughters eyebrows done every two and a half weeks (hers less often, whenever she is in town with us) and we buy our makeup here. Today was the worst experience I have ever had in any Ulta store. I am most shocked and angered that it happened at the one where I have spent so much money!I had bought my stepdaughter a Benefit brow kit for Christmas a couple months ago. She just opened it two days ago but said the color wasnt the right number for her. The product remained unopened. We attempted to do a direct exchange with the product today but were told by the manager that without a receipt she would not exchange it but would return it and give me $.54 for it. Yes, 54 American cents for a $34 unopened product that I was trying to do a direct exchange on. I could not believe this was customer service the manager felt she was providing. There was no empathy or understanding shown to me over my frustration for this ridiculous proposal, which to me was the absolute worst thing about it all. I have never been treated like an outsider at my Ulta store before and today that is exactly how I felt. The manager Michelle kept saying that someone must have bought an eyebrow kit for $.54 cents after using their points and therefore that was all could she could provide me with. Nevermind the fact that I did not use my points to buy this eyebrow kit. I used my hard-earned American dollars.Someone rightfully used their points as a cash value to purchase an identical product, and while the manager can see my Ulta purchase history and that it wasnt me, she is going to use that persons Platinum loyalty and benefit to ridicule me. Yes, I absolutely see a $.54 offering as a form of ridicule. So basically she would have taken my brand new eyebrow kit and given me $.54 cents for it, sold me another $34 eyebrow kit and then turned around to sell the returned eyebrow kit for another $34. This is gouging a customer and not even a sensible persons approach. I could not be more angry with this complete lack of common sense customer service! I will be sending this same message to their corporate office.
I was in the store last weekend and I was having my items checked out by Jordan who was doing her job, and her manager Raven was just stalking over her shoulder. I couldnt exactly make out what the manager said to her, but as soon as she walked away, jordan had tears forming in her eyes. I have read plenty of reviews on this ulta and there are quite a few about this manager. she doesnt seem like a nice lady and needs to work on her people skills. i felt so bad for the girl

After waiting for approximately 8 minutes, I waved down someone to get help. She did try to follow up but its hard with no staff. Now Im standing in the check out and there are 11 people ahead of me with only one person checking customers out. Can I add that the exact same thing happened last time I was here. Really missing the customer service mark!

I lost so much $ & Free Promos, b/c of how promo items are stocked.This was 6-10 years ago.Even after talking w/ Corporate, nothing changed for -me-Then, 2-3yrs back, I started to see Ultas brands & their IPO Trading.Which led me in there tonight.I had a s i m p l e what-to-get:β’3 Wet Brushesβ’MAC Mascara that was Wed. 19ths Hot Buy hit $10β’Benefit Brow Gelβ’Swimmers ShampooWell, I CAN say, they carry A LOT OF BRANDS. MUCH MORE.So much so, you have to zigzag to get anything,or move... anywhere.Still BIG ISSUE WITH OUT-OF-STOCK.1. Barely had enough brushes for choice.2. Mascara? No where to be found. All Sold Out, I was told. So thats MY fault π€...3. No problems w/brow gel--had MY color;BUT theyd only 4 of their 7 Shades STOCKED (???)4. Luckily, I got 1 of the 2 last swim shampoos.Heaven forbid you have a question AFTER Checking Out. Attitude can & still happens (usually by young customers, not by staff, as before.Will I go back to Gurnee? 10% chance.Ill likely just keep going to V. Hills & Deerfield Stores when my daughters ask to go.
