Got a good deal on local flavor so thought Id try it out. If youre using the local flavor deal, you need to use the whole amount pretax so be ready for some leftovers.Not a bad little place. I tried their bacon cheese burger on their pretzel bun and their pretzel stocks. The burger was OK, nothing special but the fries were good. Fries were fresh cut, crispy and just the right amount of salt. Pretzel sticks were good but the cheese sauce was meh. The vanilla cake was good as well.
Excellent Food.Had the Liver Dumpling Soup which was superb.Handcrafted Spaetzle( more known as Knoepfle in the southern part of Germany), with a Jaeger Schnitzel.Big Portion.I enjoyed having some left overers today for lunch.The Owner and Chef renate is from Aschaffenburg in Germany.So, it cannot get more authentic.
Just got a schnitzel dinner w roasted potatoes and it was amazing. Homemade dinner rolls too. Hostess was very friendly. Love supporting local businesses. If you havent tried it yet you are missing out on amazing food.
Introduced my son & daughter in law to this place & they were pleasantly surprised. The food was great, we met the owner who was a very sweet lady who I believe did all the cooking. They were able to bring their dog & we sat outside & had a wonderful German dinner!
Probably my favourite German restaurant in Chicago. A hidden gem with all homemade food. From the bread, to the Schnitzel to the Schwarzwälder Kirsch cake - all made right there. Super friendly staff and great prices. Definitely the place to go if you love German food. Favourite item on the menu: Liver Dumpling Soup!
This German restaurant serves amazing apple pancakes!!! They are seriously so delicious and go well with one of their cappuccinos. I also highly recommend their egg breakfast sandwich and breakfast skillet.

This place is a hidden gem! They have an authentic German menu that any pallet would like. The owner is super sweet and took care of our table so well. We enjoyed dinner today but are already looking forward to having breakfast there soon by the looks of their breakfast menu. Will be back soon!
We ate here, Sunday mid-afternoon, and enjoyed a peaceful dining experience. Its a nice spot, for a very tasty homemade German meal, along with imported German beers. The service was quick and friendly. The cafe offers live-music, during the more popular dining-times, as well. Well certainly eat here, again!

Holy smokes! Let me just say, I am not a fan of carrot cake. However, if every carrot cake I’ve had tasted like the one I just had from here, carrot cake would be my favorite dessert. This was moist, flavorful, and just fantastic. The owners are wonderful people and this place is a must try.

If you are looking for fresh baked and delicious ... then this is it. I love the jeager schnitzel and gypsy ... so good! Lightly breaded, moist, and savory. The baked goods are the best.... you have ever had. Yum! The brownies, almond cake, breads... YUM!
Renate has superb food. Catered our rehearsal when we got married and everyone loved it and many return regularly to enjoy. Wait staff always try to go above and beyond. Brownies are phenomenal. Try it and you will have authentic German food. Been to Germany and she always brings us back.

This place is outstanding! So nice to be able to get REAL food in an area overloaded with bland chain restaurants. This is by far the best German restaurant around. Ive only had the Rahm Schnitzel (several times, its that good!) and the soup- but I can only imagine the rest is just as perfect. Very friendly owners, too.

Food was quite delicious. My girlfriend had the schnitzel platter and I had a schnitzel sandwich. Hers covered most of a 12 plate, mine was barely bigger than the bun. But I wouldnt have expected that big of a schnitzel on a bun... Oops on me. But the ambience was wonderful. Pictures and music were all German in origin. Would highly recommend this place for an inexpensive hearty meal.

Walked in the front door and was greeted by a display of baked goods, great start. The dinner was excellent, plentiful and reasonably priced. Of course we had to have the sweets and coffee after packing up plenty of leftovers. We will be back that’s for sure.

We come every year around Octoberfest to get some good German food and German Octoberfest beer of course. The food is tasty with good service. Wait Staff is friendly and quick with prices that are fairimho and and a great selection of german deserts. Great time to go there now, so stop in today.

I was very excited to see this place on UberEats. Excitement evaporated the moment I received my order. Garden salad was pickled. Pickled tomatoes, cucumbers, onions. Sour, old, inedible. Roasted potatoes were drowned in paprika and half baked. A crunchy roasted potato is not a good thing. Chicken wrap.. Lettuce wrap with chicken flavor and a hide and seek tomato. A quarter sized piece of chicken was in the whole wrap. Three pieces of tomatoes, salsa size. The rest was lettuce wrapped very loosely in a tortilla. The best of the meal was the random bread roll tossed in the bag.

Olde Salem is a hidden gem. Slightly difficult to exit on Wise road, yet worth the hassle. The soups are delicious. Dont pass up the liver dumpling soup. Try it once and you should be hooked. The menu offers variety with pictures on the wall of each item in case you have questions. This is Grandmas cooking by Reneta. She is wholesome and cooks with love. The addition of live entertainment and cooking classes is a wonderful way to embrace the culture.

The food from this place has been nothing but amazing. My wife and I dine in often and have tried a majority of the menu. They are a full service bakery (with a huge display case) and their brownies are to die for. The staff is super friendly and all their German food is home cooked fresh. We used them for catering an event with brats, hot dogs, hamburgers, the most delicious sauerkraut, and the best potato salad Ive ever had. It was a huge hit. The pricing was really reasonable. They supplied all the condiments as well as plating and utensils. Thank you Old Salem Cafe for an awesome and easy experience. Highly Recommend!

Best breakfast on the area. Breakfast menu is full of staples. You will not find fluffier pancakes anywhere. A nice surprise is the German breakfast sausage. Service is professional and attentive without overdoing it. A great part is that we were seated right away on a Sunday morning!

I went to this Cafe with my family on a Sunday morning. The breakfast menu is simple and best. The owner herself is the cook too. The quantity and quality of the food are really good. Food tastes delicious. They do have pastries, cakes, brownie and we may order party cakes from here. I recommend this place.

Renates is a german bakery/restaurant located in a strip mall. My wife ordered the spaetzel with bacon, onions & mozzarella cheese which she LOVED. I had the sauerbraten with fried potatoes and red cabbage which was very good. Unfortunately, we did not leave any room for the homemade apple strudel.. next time we will try it.

Honestly this place has the best spaetzle out of all the German restaurants Ive tried in this area. Everyone in my party was very happy with their meals over all. Only very minor complaint is the Hungarian goulash is bland.
