Randell was very helpful and knowledgeable. His repair on my daughters cello was ready for pickup in advance of his estimate. He thoroughly explained the work being performed and stated that he backs up his work and will be available for adjustment s as needed. Also he was very prompt in responding to questions. Cellos are expensive and it is good to know someone local to help take care of the instrument.

I just bought a violin from Randell and the entire experience was excellent. I could tell that as a dealer Randell is extremely selective in the quality and condition of the instruments he chooses to sell. If the instrument I was looking at had repairs, he was able to show me how and to what standard (always extremely high) that repair had been completed, and he did so with incredible detail and clarity. He was very patient throughout the entire process as I trialed several instruments, and was even able to make small sound post adjustments on the spot to match my taste. Im very happy with the instrument I purchased, and I left his shop confident in my choice. Ill certainly be going back in the future.

Randell has been rehairing my violin bow for years and I am always completely satisfied. He carved me a bridge that Ive happily been playing on for years as well. He is efficient, reasonably priced and a pleasure to do business with.

Ive worked with Mr. Reid for several years now. The first time was to make repairs to the violin Id had since my teens. He did amazing work with a rapid turnaround time. We replaced my (broken) bridge and then refurbished my fingerboard.Unfortunately, the old girl had some problems that would be cost inefficient to fix. The peg board needed some major refurbishing, and the cost would be more than the instrument was worth.After thinking and saving, I made an email request seeing if he had any instruments that would fit my budget. He let me make an appointment and set out several instruments for me to try on. I narrowed down to two, he walked me through both of them - pointing out information to help me make a decision.His customer service is impeccable! We completed the transaction - and he even loaned me a case to bring home the new instrument. I hadnt bought a new violin since the early 1990s and didnt know what to expect. He was patient and informative. Totally non-judgmental, making me feel right at home.His work quality, customer service, knowledge, and talent are amazing. I cant wait for my next upgrade when I can move into one of his handmade instruments. His refurbishments are excellent, but his own work is superb.

Mr. Reid is very helpful and professional. He is also very generous of sharing knowledges. We will alway go back for cello repair and strings. Its so nice to find someone local instead of going to Boston all the time.

I am sad to see such low reviews. Randall is a high end very skilled violin maker and repair artist. If you have a high end instrument and can afford it he is worth every penny. I know if Randall works on my violins I am getting the highest quality workmanship. All information I have gotten has been accurate according to other luthiers as far as repairs, instrument value, etc. I trust him 100%. I believe him to be honest and fair. He is the perfect luthier for professional musicians. Highly recommended.

Not only is Randell a master craftsman, but he is open, personable, and willing to walk the customer through his thought process. I trust him with my baby, and this is who I will be taking my violin to while living in Hartford.

Randell Reid is a skilled luthier and and master craftsman. He is knowledgeable and passionate of his craft, but has been extremely difficult to contact. I visited his shop in order to obtain an appraisal for an instrument I was trying to purchase from the Hartt School. I had to obtain copies of the document from the selling party, the school, because he had not responded to my emails or calls for several weeks. I recommend him to anyone looking for repairs or maintenance services, but I suggest establishing a strong line of contact with him in order to avoid any unnecessary waiting.
