A1 Marine has been a steady hand that has helped me for years. When I have a problem and cannot figure it out, Andrew always finds the problem no matter how difficult. With fewer mechanics capable of servicing inboard or inboard/outboard units, our boating community is a better place because of A1 Marine and Andrew being here.

Ive always trusted Andrew with my Yanmars. Knows how to avoid the tunnel vision all too common in the marine field. Gets the job done - engines back up and running no matter what it takes. Great for when it has to get done right the first time.

Do yourself a favor and not allow A-1 Marine and Diesel Service, Havelock, NC to work on your boat. I took my boat to Andrew after telling him the problems. The issues should have been simple to fix. The seals in the tilt trim needed replacing, Harmonic Balancer needed replacing and the water sensor in the fuel filter needed replacing. Andrew stated he could fix the problems and the boat should be completed in a week. I got a call regarding corrosion on the motor. I asked him to look at it. Three and a half weeks later, I got the call and then the invoice. Andrew took it upon himself to place a remanufactured tilt trim on the boat. The cost $1875.00. I could have bought a new tilt trim and had it replaced for several hundred dollars less. The issue surrounding the Harmonic Balancer that Andrew stated he could fix. Not the case, stated that he was not “tooled” to do the job. Andrew replaced the fuel filter and supposedly stopped the water from getting to the motor. Andrew charged 16 hours of labor at $120.00 an hour. The bill was $4300.00 and I needed to take the boat to another business to fix the balancer issue. So what do I have after giving my business to A-1 Marine, at best a questionable/overpriced tilt trim that may or may not have been completely remanufactured? Another bill from a reputable business (should have taken it there first, my fault) and a completed job related to the balancer. You know, the job that Andrew stated he could fix and charged me for reportedly looking at the problem. A new fuel filter ($136.00) and some sealant to supposedly stop water from getting to the motor. To top it off, when I went to pick up the boat, they pulled the jack bolt out of the nut and basically stripped it. The boat could not be lowered down on the truck. I had to get a stranger walking by to assist me to get in attached to the ball (bought a new one). Andrew wrote a short story on the invoice that reported every supposedly turned bolt. So, if you are foolish enough to take your boat to him, be prepared for that one. He wants you to think he actually did something for your money. Andrew should have started my short story with – Once upon a time in a land far, far away. Every fictional fairytale needs to start with it. We all know the aggravation of civil court regarding these matters. A possibility, not ruled out, but maybe not the best course of action. Instead, I’ll entertain myself at Andrew’s expense and hopefully prevent the same from happening to you. What Andrew has done is basically legalized theft. I paid my bill to get my boat. Andrew will never see another penny from me and I encourage you not to be a victim as well.Dennis Craft

Everything they said about what was wrong with my diesel motor was a lie. Tried to rip us off from the start. The owner Andrew is an absolute crook. Watch out ! Stay away. They tried to play the religious card too. Dont believe any of it

I needed to get out before hurricane Florence, needing some minor but important diesel work done. They were able to get someone out the same day I called. Found the problem and fixed it.
