Wonderful experience again with Zaki this last week.Bought a Kashan rug from him about ten years ago,but moved house recently and needed something a bit larger.Its a real education to tour the showroom with him and his charming wife.No hurry,no pressure,must have looked at at least 40 different Kashans,just in the burgundy and navy colors.Enormous variety and we found exactly what we wanted,not very different in pattern to the one we have.I know Pakistan well having travelled to the country at least 20 times over the years in helping to found an working animal charity which parallels the work that Zaki is supporting for the very poorest people,so we have a common interest in the country.If you are thinking of buying a hand made rug,do so now,as it is a dying art and Zaki is the man to go to.No one more knowledgeable or fairer on prices.

Family friends told us about Zaki’s Oriental Rugs and we drove down from Atlanta to at least look if not also buy a piece. As an academic and someone interested in art, it was a pleasure to learn about rugs, their variety, their quality, their process, etc. from Mr. Zaki, who is not just extremely learned, but also warm and kind, as are his staff. The proportions of his showroom are staggering and basically it is like going to a carpet museum, with the curator there to explicate each piece to you. We cannot recommend his store more, not just as a place to buy the best quality rugs from any region in the world, but also as a cultural experience, one that will leave you rich with knowledge on rugs. He is in the process of winding his business and leaving his net worth to charity, and therefore he is selling his stock at reasonable prices. We were able to buy a Hereke from Turkey and a 100-year-old Sarouk from Iran for the most reasonable price. I guess, instead of investing in a Tesla we invested in a couple of magic carpets, and unlike a Tesla our carpets will appreciate and not depreciate over time. The colors are vibrant and the designs are made to enhance every style of decor. Hand tied knots per square inch is important, and Zaki has rugs that impress from 100 to 2500 knots per square inch. The back sides of these rugs are as beautiful as the front sides. The owner Zaki is a friendly and helpful salesperson. We bought a 10’ x 14’ traditional style rug, and it will make the livingroom of our new house. Buying here was a wonderful experience.

Please forgive the length of this review. My relationship with Zaki extends back to 1979 where in a closet of a shop we purchased our first handmade carpet for our new (to us) dining room after having been in a 10x52 ft trailer with two kids and a dog. He worked with us as we did with him and he has always made us feel special and took such pride in his product and customer happiness. Two locations later we are still buying his works of art, piece by piece as funds allow, and still have that warm feeling as we leave. Yesterday we were fortunate enough to purchase yet a few more pieces before he shuts the doors of his incredible showroom. As a fan of persian rugs and given all of the rave reviews, I really looked forward to going here. I arrived on a Saturday morning. I am in a wheelchair and have a service dog who assists me. As we entered the store, the three gentlemen working at desks looked up and stared at me for quite a while without saying anything. I said Hi to which I didnt get a response and started heading towards the first aisle to look around. As I got to the first aisle, a guy came out from his desk and said I know he is a service dog, but he cant be in here with our rugs. I said, Are you familiar with the ADA law? He said, Yes....Well, if you can keep your dog off of the rugs. I said, Good luck to you and left. I have had service dog assistance for over 9 years and have visited thousands of businesses. I have had an issue a grand total of now 3 times. The ADA law clearly states that a business cannot refuse access to a person with a disability with a service dog. However, this business has decided despite knowing the law that they arent going to follow it. I have visited other persian and oriental rug stores with my service dog and havent had an issue. I also take my service dogs behavior extremely seriously and would never let him on a rug that is for sale. After driving an hour to the store, this was a really disappointing experience.

Truly amazing! I was pleasantly surprised to find not only some of the finest high-quality oriental rugs Ive ever seen, but also a large selection of everyday rugs as well. I suppose this is why theyve earned their reputation as one of the premier rug merchants in the USA. We just happened upon this store during a visit to the High Point area. We received a warm welcome by Zaki himself. We informed him that we were a little intimidated and felt that we may be out of our price range shopping here. We explained to him what we were looking for. He took the time with us to explain the process by which these special rugs are made and how quality is determined. He patiently walked with us as we explored a selection unlike any we had ever seen before. He took us to a furnished room where he explained the ideal way to place this type of rug with regard to the arrangement of the furniture. Zaki then showed us a wide variety of rugs in the size for which we were looking. Throuhout the entire experience we never felt as though we were with a salesman. Instead, our conversation allowed us to get to know this special man. We learned of his cultural values, and how he applies them to his business acumen. Especially impressive was how he gives back to his community and to his native Pakistan where he has inspired education in children by opening several schools. As educators ourselves, we found this to be quite admirable. We found the perfect rug with the help of Zaki and it was more affordable than we initially thought. While residing in High Point for a number of years, my wife and I made several purchases from our dear friend, Zaki Khalifa. He educated us on how to recognize true craftsmanship and quality rugs. Zacki and his crew are honest, knowledgeable and the service is fantastic. He and my Mother have been friends ever sense he came to NC many decades ago . During the summer I visited Mom who is in her late 80’s and she wanted me to go visit her friend Zacki.....Zacki helped my Mom get around the showroom and they spoke about the construction of the rugs, the dyes, the untold man hours and the skills that are passing with time. I could not tell you how many rugs Mom has bought from Zacki over the years, but I know he is a gentleman and true to his word. We must have spent an hour talking about the materials and construction of specific rugs then decided to go to lunch and stop by again before driving Mom home.During lunch the unknown reality became self evident that I, who has never purchased a sport car, put the kids through college was going to buy a rug. We drove back and got Mom’s walker out of the back of the truck, slowly made it into the showroom and to the back of the showroom. The better part of a dozen rugs were placed around the floor and I let their friendship and respect that had been built over decades chose the rug. The rug is beautiful and maybe more important to me is how it was made.I have the upmost respect for those who make a living with the creative coordination of their hands and minds and although it’s not likely I will ever meet the men who worked for years to tie the knots and develop the pattern they should know that Zacki represented them well and communicated their craft that had to be passed down generation after generation.I did not question the price as I have learned a guardian of that level of knowledge is earned over years and its rare you have the ability and opportunity to acquire an item that has been built by masters of a craft/trade. The men who hand tied the knots for years and years would not have entrusted the rug to Zacki unless he had earned their respect over decades. Mr. Khalifa’s no pressure approach to business allowed us to explore his extensive inventory and make a thoughtful purchase decision. In the end, my husband and I walked out with two beautiful rugs rather than one. The rugs are gorgeous and high quality, and the prices at Zaki are jaw-droppingly low. On a sunny, Saturday afternoon, Dave and I met our good friend, Rebecca, at Zaki Oriental Rugs in High Point. Our plan was to look at the rugs, pick out one for our den, and then head home. However, what we had thought would be a quick trip to buy a rug turned out to be a wonderful shopping experience. From the time we entered the store to the time we left, Zaki and his staff treated us as special guests. Awais and his helper immediately brought chairs for us to sit and be comfortable while they were showing us the lovely rugs. When we had decided on a rug, Zaki sat with us to tell us about the rug and to get to know us. Not only did he get to know us, but we also got to know about him and his family. He invited us into his office to see pictures of his grandfather, who was a famous educator. Actually, we learned that, except for Zaki, everyone in his family were educators, one of the reasons for his great respect for educators. The wall of pictures in his office were of his grandfathers many achievements and honors, including a recognition at the White House. Additionally, the wall included pictures of Zaki’s recognitions for his contributions to High Point. We would have enjoyed chatting even longer, but we needed to get home to be there when the rug arrived. Thanks to the efficiency of Tracy, we were able to have our rug delivered that same afternoon. The two gentlemen who delivered the rug and the mat laid them perfectly and made sure that our furniture was back in place. We are enjoying our beautiful rug; it is exactly what we wanted. Quality and craftsmanship are becoming lost arts. And that especially applies to Oriental carpets. Old accomplished designers and those crafts-people who make each knot by hand are just not being replaced. What we have also learned is that this also applies to the sales experience associated with these works of art.I am delighted to say that we found it all at Zaki Oriental Rugs.The showroom is amazing with 100,000 sq ft of space filled with carpets in all price ranges. We took our time and found exactly what we needed in terms of style, color and price point.Zaki and his staff were very informative, as well as patient, displaying the almost unlimited options that might meet our wish list. The top notch professionalism was impeccable. This purchase experience exceeded any previous carpet purchasing experience by far. This includes a very good experience I had when I lived in Singapore. I did not think that the Singapore level of service could be topped, and definitely not topped here in the US. And our experience in NYC shouldnt even be mentioned in the same review (and it wont.) But this experience with Zaki and his staff outmatched them all. I highly recommend this company.We initially came home with four carpets. Two were perfect for where we wanted to place them. Zaki showed us two 2 by 3 carpets, both hand knotted. The first was priced at less than $60. The second... it was sold awaiting pick-up... at $58,000. We managed to find ours in between that spread! My wife and I first encountered Zaki’s Oriental Rugs on a trip to High Point, North Carolina to purchase furniture. Shopping for rugs was an afterthought, as furniture was our main focus. We found ourselves with extra time, and knowing we would need rugs eventually, we checked out the rug departments of the furniture stores and the local rug stores. Zaki’s was our final stop, as we heard it was a must see.I must say that upon entering Zaki’s the first time we were amazed at the sheer size of the showroom, absolutely cavernous, filled with piles of neatly arranged rugs as far as the eye could see into the distance. Many stores hang their rugs due to lack of space, but as we soon learned, you cannot properly view a rug unless you see it flat on the floor from all sides (so the piles are very important). The manager, Nadeem, waited on us, and unlike the other dealers we had encountered, he seemed uninterested in selling us anything, but was most interested in educating us on the qualities and nuances of fine oriental rugs and dispelling the myths and inaccuracies that some other dealers had led us to believe. We soon became very comfortable and Nadeem spent the entire day showing us rug after rug after rug (as you see, we had brought our fabric samples with us, and color coordination can be a difficult process). We found a 9 x 12 for our dining room that we loved and had it shipped to our home. Sadly, after arrival, we felt it did not go as well as we had hoped, so Zaki’s arranged for the rug to be picked up and issued a prompt full refund.We were of course disappointed, but armed with our newfound expertise; we felt that surely we could find the rugs of our dreams in our local Baltimore/Washington market. We spent the next three months visiting every notable dealer in the Maryland, DC, and Northern Virginia corridor (and believe me, there are quite a few), from lavish showrooms, to dusty warehouses and everything in between. We explored ebay and the internet, and even went up to New York to visit a large dealer there. The result: not one of them came close to the quality, selection and pricing that we had encountered at Zaki’s!Upon the realization, my wife and I knew there was no alternative, we had to return to High Point and visit Mr. Zaki’s store to find what we needed. We scheduled a four day trip (as we were now intent on buying rugs for the entire house) to Zaki’s in High Point exactly six months after we had first been there. We spent all four days in the showroom from open till close, and we were always at our own pace. We worked with four different associates that couldn’t have been more knowledgeable, polite or helpful. The end result is that we now have six absolutely gorgeous hand knotted oriental rugs of very fine quality in our home and they are a joy to look upon each day. The price we paid was not cheap, but was far less than we found everywhere else, so the value was unmatched. The cost of the trip was easily paid for many times over from the savings we realized.
