Fader beware!Great course! Excellent condition. From the tees to the greens this place is top notch!!! This is a must play, but if you fade the ball, left to right, beware! I can only remember one hole that goes left to right… the rest of the time it seemed to go right to left.Somewhat pricy but worth it because of the conditions. Greens are nice and firm albeit a little on the slow side.Grabbing some beers won’t break the bank like some other places.Go play here and have a great time! Use your GHIN app to see the holes because there isn’t any GPS.Enjoy!!!

Not a course you need to pull out driver often, most of the par 4s and 5s dogleg between 225 - 250 yards. Course is challenging with narrow fairways. Unfortunately greens were punched a couple of weeks ago, but all in all not bad. The two greenside bunkers I was in were like hitting out of nearly-dry cement after several days of rain, but to be expected. I would play this course again, but if I had my druthers... either in late spring, early summer or the fall to avoid the rainy conditions and the punched greens.

Played here in late January and I’m glad I chose this course. Mainly what brought me to this course were the reviews and it’s rating! And they were right! The restaurant the drinks free range balls, I was very happy I chose this course and will definitely be back.

Played this morning (June ‘21). I play a lot of golf - this course was way overpriced. Shipyard is $30 cheaper and a much better course and better shape. The greens at Oyster were in rough shape, lots of sand on them and dead grass. It was a slow round early in the morning, took 4:40 to play. this course is off the list for next time.

If you don’t mind paying $100 +/- off season for a five hour round with no one moving things along on a poorly manicured course then this is your place. Decent layout. One beautiful par 3 taking you out to the water but pretty pedestrian besides that. Sadly a typical Heritage Golf experience.Spend a little more and play in Sea Pines, better courses, better guest experience.

The course itself was great. Fairly open for Hilton Head. Greens in great condition. Lots of sand around the greens making for some tough approach shots which is fun. Course in good shape. 2 main complaints based on how much we paid: Didnt see the beer cart until the 17th hole (too late) and we were told to hurry up even though we were ON PACE after 9 and played the full 18 in 3:50 (3 golfers) on a 4:20 recommended pace. Would have liked to have some food and a drink at the turn but felt like we couldnt. Basically forced to skip the turn based on the starter telling us to pick up the pace. I think you need to order before the turn so we may not have been able to stop of thats the case.

I feel that this is one of the nicest golf courses I’ve played on. Everyone was very professional and friendly. The condition of the course was as good as I’ve ever seen. We did get stuck behind some slow players but that happens anywhere. The food and drinks at the grill was great so overall I enjoyed the experience.

So glad I played this course for the 1st time. I found the course to be scenic and a good challenge. We did experience some bottlenecks, but still finished in just under 4 hours. The greens were aerated, so putting a little more difficult as far as speeds go.. The vibe seemed to be a little more laid back compared to other courses on the island, which I really enjoyed. I will be back in october!

Very disappointed in the false reviews saying this course is one of the nicest they have played. Clearly haven’t played any decent courses, payed over $130 bucks for a $50 course, fairways were 2/5 greens were 2/5 figures for the price you pay it would be decent. Don’t play this course unless you plan on being disappointed or just want to throw away $100.

Great layout, friendly staff, and AMAZING food. I wanted to stay there for dinner after our round but got overruled. We played after a ton of rain, and the course is primarily Bermuda, so the fairways were pretty bare. I’m sure in-season it’s a great place, but off season if you travel here to play on green grass you’ll be disappointed.

Played there last year. Course was a little beat up after the hurricane but still fun. We had some slow people( O+) in front of us but wouldnt budge. The 2 some behind us was pushing and it made for an uncomfortable round. Marshall could gave clarified the situation but. . . . The Ocean hole was great but thats the only one I remember. Probably wont go back unless something changes. NOT worth $100.

Oyster Reef Golf Club offers the best value on Hilton Head Island. The course was breathtaking. Pristine fairways, perfectly rolled and speedy greens, with a layout that punishes the uncalculating shot. I’d tried other courses and their greens were painfully slow in late September. I’d reckon the greens at Oyster Reef Golf Club were the fastest publicly-available greens on the island at that time. You will not find a bunker with too little sand on the course. From the blue tees, this course is punishing. To play well here, it’s exceptionally important to question driver off of the tee. This is a “plodders” golf course through and through.

I dont write reviews very often but felt the need to do this one for my experience at Oyster Reef. Arrival experience, the staff, clubhouse, all good. They were on schedule for our tee time and the starter was great by giving us an introduction to the course. The course is a decent layout, with tee boxes and fairways in great shape. The problem was the greens. Although, they looked great, they performed terribly. For almost a $100 green fee, you expect better, much better. They were so slow, you could actually hear the ball roll. It made for a frustrating round for me and my playing partner. There is no excuse for this on a course were expectations are higher.

I was a bit disappointed playing Oyster Reef. We took a later tee time (3:16) so my Wife’s pace of play wouldn’t hold anyone up. Bag drop and check in at the clubhouse went well and the pro shop staff was friendly. The greens were rough. I asked before making the tee time what kind of shape the course was in and I was assured it was great. The greens were like putting on sand paper - possibly the slowest non-punched/sanded greens I’ve ever played and coverage was sparse. There was no starter/ranger, the range was closed, tips not set, and no beverage cart running. Additionally, our cart started to die on 15 and no one was available to answer the call in the clubhouse. Thankfully a member of the bar staff I called was able to locate the cart attendant and get a new cart out to us. For $95 twilight, I wasn’t expecting Harbour Towne but certainly was expecting a bit nicer conditions. Maybe the experience is different with earlier tee times.

Fantastic experience. I was a little wary as some reviews mentioned questionable conditions. But this course was in fantastic shape. The greens were immaculate. Rolling absolutely true. Yes, there was some signs of post hurricane repair still being done but that was minor. So great on-the-course experience and loved the layout. But where Oyster Reef really shined for me was the service. From the moment I stepped on the property, I was treated like a member by the very attentive staff. All of my interactions with folks working here were memorable in the most positive sense. There are better layouts of course and higher end clubhouse amenities, but overall I must give 5 stars based on the complete experience today. Cant wait to come back.

With great upkeep, a really strong design and a most pleasing woodland environment, where the real estate is not intrusive, Oyster Reef is a joy to play and an excellent test of your golfing skills. Apart from the two back-nine par-3s, water is not a major issue here, but negotiating the significant green-side bunkering and the large, slick, superbly maintained greens, will determine whether you score well or not.To visitors this is perhaps one of the lesser known names on Hilton Heads golfing panoply, but its definitely one of the Islands finest pearls.

Played 6/2/2014, course in average shape at best. There are six or seven very good holes and the rest are a little mundane. The back nine was in much better condition and also had a very tough finishing two holes. The hotel we were staying at had a deep discount which made it acceptable, if I had paid full price would have been quite upset.

Went as a foursome with other local players who belong to a private club on the island. We all remarked how nicely the course is designed and what great condition the fairways and greens are in. Its clearly one of the islands most scenic courses and #6 is as pretty as a picture. Fairways are wide but well bunkered, while most of the greens are heavily bunkered and some have deep bunkers - so bring your sand game. Only complaint is that a couple of bunkers had liners exposed and some had footprints not raked out by prior players... but for a public course Oyster Reef ranks right up there and is not to be missed. The newly renovated clubhouse is very attractive and has an extensive beer selection. Get the crab hush puppies - their fantastic and go absolutely great with a cold draft.

I played the course on October 7th, 2015 just days after heavy rains hit SC. The course and greens were in great shape. I dont know if the starter was having a bad day, but he was rude and inconsiderate to us as we were getting ready to head to the tee box as well as at the turn. I know they were probably heavily booked, but you should not treat your patrons this way.
