It is an amazing place! If youre coffee lover, I recommend π π
They turned me into a coffee drinker...great coffee. great price. and the crew and staff are amazing they know what I want and have it for me with a smile...Paul and his wife are super people ..hard working and always a pleasure to see..jtb
Very professional service, friendly staff, the place I like the most when I need technology. Recommended.
How this place got so many good reviews is beyond me. Every time I gone there, the service was horrible. They are not friendly and just overall want you give them money and get out of the store. I gone in today for a black ice coffee, literally the easiest thing to order off the menu. The girl filled the cup to the brim with ice, when I said can you please put half ice, she chuck them out and filled the cup with zero ice, put the cup on the counter and turned her back. I will never return here again.
Love this place. It is a Hoboken staple. So many amazing varieties of coffee. The Mexican spiced ice coffee is amazing and one of my favorites. Also, low key their blueberry muffins are bomb!
Small place with great atmosphere. Bags of coffee beans are on the floor and very nice chill music for a nice lazy morning. I had a good mocha (not the best, but good) and my friend really liked his coffee. The staff was SUPER friendly. It looks like they allow dogs because some people had some in here. Not a ton of seating, maybe enough for 10 people at most.
Nothing compares to empire. Over 25 different types of beans. Friendly staff and great service.
Where have I been? Been in NYC 32 years.Passed by it X amounts of times but I never before stopped to look at it in detail. Must say, BEST place in the city if you want to have a flare of days gone by. Very cool music. The best regular coffee Ive had in a looooong time. 4 or 5 small tables. Customers seem regulars and engage in fun conversation. 5 stars. I π New York City.
We recently stayed in NYC near the Port Authority and tried several coffee shops in the area including Empire Coffee & Tea Emporium on 9th Avenue.Interestingly, this seems to be first a retail shop for purchasing coffee and tea. There are bags of beans of a variety of origins you will spot as soon as you walk in the door. Towards the back is a coffee station manned by barista just like youd find in a traditional coffeeshop. In front are a 3-4 colourful park like circular tables and chairs, for those who want to enjoy a coffee drink and bite to eat in the shop.During our visit we tried a double espresso and double maccihato. The doppio wasnt great, a weak, light taste. Not sure what bean or origin they were using but this didnt work very well. Maccihato was better but still not great. Perhaps we visited on a off morning and were just unlucky as others seem to have really liked coffee drinks here. They offer and promote a wide range of milk and flavoured coffee drinks. Perhaps these would be a better way to go.In the end, we liked Empire Coffee & Tea Emporium less than the nearby Corvo Coffee Shop and ended up revisiting the latter a couple more times during our stay in the area.
Just getting a regular cup of coffee at a coffee shop is nice, but to come in to a shop like here where they sell coffee beans of all different types just creates a different atmosphere. If you love coming into a place that has a strong scent of coffee, this would be a nice place to visit.
Helpful staff recommended some good drinks and we really enjoyed βββοΈ
Empire Coffee shop is the best! I love their amazing fresh coffee blends, which is the perfect way to start the day. I highly recommend that you visit!
Smells like heaven once you walk through the door. Very friendly staff and baristas. I like the Mexican spice latte, very good on a cold winter day.
Rad! The best coffe aroma that have ever smelled.
Empire is fantastic and my wife and I have great memories here!Once you walk in the door, the aroma hits you and memories come flooding back. Their menu is delicious with lots of options, the only thing seemingly missing are caffeine free options that arent chocolate. Even a simple Iced Latte is prepared with care.Definitely a great alternative to the overrun mega-chains. Wish we lived closer!
Good Espresso! Like that they different coffee bean options available too!
There coffee has ruined me for all other coffee. Nothing compares to what they have. Just really good coffee and muffins.
Great selection of regular and decaf coffee beans
The best coffee you could ever haveπ―π
Been here before Pre-covid but saw a post on SGV eats saying theres a new purple yam pandan mochi egg waffle in store. Its a nice homey feel once you walk inside.
Best coffee on bloomfield st. Ordered a cappuccino! Highly recommend it
The largest variety of coffee beans in Hoboken, maybe the tri-state area. βοΈ
Ive been stopping in here every few weeks during COVID for my coffee beans. Funny transitioning from picking up lattes in the city every day to making my own drip at home. The staff here are friendly and they have a nice assortment of beans, with the ability to crush them on site. They also have a good amount of tea & various chocolates.
Doesnβt look like much from the outside, but the smell walking past this place is amazing!More of a get your beans or brew to-go kinda place, although a small amount of seating available and we did to keep being amongst it :)A big variety of beans, from different countries and roasting styles available. Tea selection good too.Good coffee, Cappuccino foam pretty good.
Love this quaint little place! They will grind your grinds for you and make you coffee! They even let you sample the flavor of the week.
Use to work here and its pretty gross. They do not follow the city food safety laws at all and do not even receive letter grade due to some sort of loophole the owners found. (sketchy) They often false advertise their beans usually selling many of the same kind under different labeling and roast levels. Working here was very frustrating for this company focuses less on quality and integrity and more on greed and profits. Eat here at your own risk for the place is infested with flies and mold plus many microorganisms not visible that will make you sick. I was ultimately let go due to my constant mentioning of these conditions. basically the owners want you to shut your trap and enjoy the measly pay.
I have been coming to Empire coffee for approx 8 years. I always had great experience except over the past two recent visits. This past visit, I experienced very poor and slow customer service. Mainly from Clint. I was ignored while he had a full on conversation with a customer that could have waited, while the other customers including myself could have been attended to first. The manager who is amazing helped me. I asked Clint for his name and he gave me a smart mouth comment. My advice to Clint find a job where you donβt have to interact with customers face to face. Or take customer service 101.
Five Stars β€π§‘πππ§‘
Iβve been here a few times to buy flavored coffee beans (I have them grinder for me). I especially liked their Vermont maple walnut. Would return again for sure. I recommend this place if you are a fan of flavored coffee.
Love the coffee here. I wish i had a place like this where i live
Very unprofessional. when a brista is being rude and mumbling slurr, Especially when he make particularly bad cup of coffee. Very disappointed from the shop which is a beautiful coffee spot in hoboken with an amazing variety of coffee beens. It was my go to spot but now Ill think very good if I want to go again.
So many coffee bean varieties to choose from! The baristas are always pleasant and helpful, even in the early morning when customers are cranky. A great spot to pop in and out, not a lot of sitting room. For the price, the coffee tastes good (bring a refillable to get a small discount)
As soon as you get within 10 feet of the door youβd easily understand why this place is amazing. So many different types of coffee and tea from around the world youβd have a hard time picking just one. Enjoy!
Best coffee in Hoboken.
The drip coffee tastes burnt and bitter. Only 2 tables inside, mostly cookies for sale. Zero coffee shop vibe. More of a shop. If this cheap coffee is what they sell, I question their taste.
Phenomenal price and great quality
Great great shop. Its not stuffy or too trendy, but they have a great selection of coffees and loose teas. I got a chai tea today that is amazing. The employees are helpful. Highly recommended.
My girlfriend and I were on vacation in New York and saw Empire Coffee around our hotel. We decided to give it a try and it was great. The second you walk in you smell all the coffee beans and the man with the ponytail who helped us (we cannot remember his name) was amazing. 10 outta 10 would recommend.
This place is hidden in the back area of Mint alley. The shop is very cute and the guy that helped us was very nice. Got several different bags of whole bean coffee, a little pricey but its worth every penny! The coffee beans smell so good when you walk into the coffee shop.
Its a small place but absolutely a Gem!! I had the best cup of coffee there!! And I have been to many states and countries.
Those of you who appreciate good coffee should save this address. Sacks of Coffee beans from around the world, with differen styles of roasting. Sold by the pound whole or ground.Friendly service and reasonable prices. The smell of freshly ground coffee beans in itself is worth walking in.Enjoy.
Not a coffee shop. Just selling beans, beans might be good, I donβt know about that. Had a Latte, horrible coffee, half cold, 1/2 was foam. It was 6:10 pm, may be thatβs why. Stick to Starbucks. Will give them benefit of doubt, try once again in morning. Prices are cheap
Probably the best coffee in Hoboken. If you want to buy your own beans, it should be your go to. The actually coffee is slightly above average but as I said, the best in town. The staff is hit or miss with kindness but Iβve never had anyone be rude to me. It can get pretty busy but it can move quickly enough.Highly suggest.
Amazing coffee. I got the latte. The caffeine didnt make me gittery at all, and it definitely gave me the energy I needed. The people who work here are super friendly, and they are all very passionate about the coffee. The man who made our drip was fantastic. Great atmosphere and ambience for a nice, relaxing Saturday afternoon. Definitely recommend it!
Best coffee and tea in Hoboken with many flavor options. Ashley and Cassie were very attentive and helped me pick the best flavors to take home. Cant wait to bring a little bit of Hoboken to Texas!
Lived in the area for a while and am sad it took me so long to stop in. Very helpful staff and great beans selection
Cool place one of the few places left in Hoboken to get a good latte. Glad theyre in business, support them if you can and make sure to wear a mask when you come in.
Ive been there twice, and wanna go again. Its a great place for either sit alone or with friends. Very comfortable and lovely. I also really liked cappuccino. Highly recommended!
Incredibly helpful and friendly staff! I came in here the other day for some loose leaf tea and a kettle for Christmas and was helped by a very nice guy who certainly knew his teas. He also treated me with patience as I struggled to figure out what to buy. Great selection, even better staff!
This is my first time writing a review, but itβs long overdue for Empire! They are always so helpful and friendly when I go in. Not to mention they have the best varieties of coffees and teas around. I also want to give a special shout out to Abbe, who just dropped what she was doing to help me create a fun holiday basket for my family :) If you need any gift ideas (or need a pick me up yourself) this is the place to go!! Thanks again Abbe & staff!!
Dropped by here for a latte extra hot. It was pretty good. Small tiny shop though, but they have seats outside.
First time customer. Loved the almond croissant and the coffee.
Best to buy glass tea pots
Nice and quaint. The employees are so friendly. And the coffee is great too. ππ₯°
Coffee everywhere.Smells amazingCoffee everywhere.People seem to be on coffee who work there. Very hype and energized all the time.Coffee everywhere. They also have every flavor imaginable.
I went here looking to get a gift. I wanted to get a few different teas in small quantities to make a smaller pack. The staff was very helpful in guiding my decisions and spent plenty of time to help me. They had a pitcher I was like owing to buy on amazon for only $5 more than the online price (which would have made it equal to the online cost after shipping). The attendant put my purchases in a big bag with tissue paper at no charge so it could be presented as a gift. Great prices, service, and selection.
Im so very impressed with the coffee here! It seems like every place I go to has great quality coffee served at the perfect temperature to be consumed immediately.
When I was attending Fordham, I used to stop here almost every day on the walk up-town. I highly recommend their beans. Theyll grind for you, and they have selections from all over the world. No matter the beans that youre looking for, theyll probably have something that interests you. South American, African, Middle Eastern, etc. They get it all at some point. Its good to know that the lighter the bean, the higher the caffeine content. Some of my favorite light blends are Sumatran. Great work!
Very friendly staff, very easy to ask questions of and approachable. Theres a very wide selection of their own beans. They also have a tea room with around 20 different types of Teas. The seating is not very extensive, but there is outdoor seating. Im definitely going to be visiting this place regularly, I think its important to get a decent deal at a good price and these guys have it.
This is a little magical coffee shop. its filled with cute little thingies (food items, household stuff) and they have cleverly named special concoctions. Every day they make several really delicious flavored coffee options as well as their great standard stuff. Also, the staff is kind and welcoming. I love coming here everyday.
Excellent and lovely coffee in a wonderful neighborhood. Well crafted coffee, cool quirky design. Friendly baristas who will recognize you and make you a sublime cappuccino. World would be a better place in general if more places like Pinhole existed. They do it right.
Delicious! Best coffee Ive had in a long while. Smooth and bold. Staff was very pleasant. Yummy treats too!
Very good coffee made fresh for you in house. As soon as you walk in it smells amazing.
Quality collection of coffee beans at this shop and very reasonable prices too. Service has always been with a smile every time, and they are happy to help you choose the perfect bean.
Hands down the best coffee beans in the city. Great staff, affordable pricing and a good variety of coffee and beverages. Ive been going here since 2000 and the quality has never wavered.
This place feels like old school New York --gritty and a little unrefined (though that may have to do more with the location) -- but whips up great, creative lattes and has an excellent selection of beans. Always friendly service. Finally, a coffee joint that has good roasts and doesnt take itself too seriously.
Two words: Southern Pecan. Whole beans...and grind them yourselves. Delicious
Really delicious coffee. Way better than starbucks at a fraction of the price.
If heaven smells like this store Im going to start being nice to people.
Vegan breakfast (that is not avocado toast) is always weirdly hard to find. I appreciated Blue Bottles protein rich offerings of toast with almond butter, and also the overnight oats with a medley of tasty things on top. There was also a chia pudding.
Loved my Mexican hot cocoa. Great selection of coffee and teas at good prices at the NYC location. We purchase several teas and the staff was patient and helpful. However the sitting area could use new furniture rather than those rickety table and chairs.Do drop in.βΊ
Chill place with good selection of regular/specialty coffee. Also sells many different kinds of beans. The only thing is that maybe the place can be a bit cleaner.
Great service. Good food and drinks and people to be with. Love to go always.
No frills unpretentious shop selling properly roasted coffee beans and coffee brewing equipment. Their prices are very reasonable for their beans and its worth the walk to get a few different varieties. They have everything from light roast to dark roast beans and they will grind them for the way you brew your coffee.
Great selection of coffee
I am a coffee addict, and I try a lot of different espresso bars all over the city. This one is by far my favorite. It isnt anything fancy, but the espresso quality and variety is outstanding. They also sell the beans whole, any tea you could imagine, and all types of brewing equipment. If you are a coffee fan and havent been the Empire, you are really missing out.
This place has the right feel for a coffee shop. Smell is amazing. Espresso is better than average. Not too much in the way of seating, but if you get a place, seems the regulars hang out and argue politics all afternoon.
Its a very cute coffee spot with a nice vibe to it. I like the outdoor seating, there isnt much space though.Tried their mocha it was pretty good.
Great loose tea selection. Friendly service. Very good coffee. They have a little seating area and its a good place to sit and be quiet.
Very good coffee, extraordinary price points, very pleasant staff. Quite cramped. Go for the coffee but find somewhere else to get work done.
Staff is always helpful the two times Ive been. Great whole coffee bean selection and their made to order drinks are delicious! Giving only 4/5 because once we got home with our coffees and brewed them they didnt really wow me. It was bitter to me but my bf thought it was delicious black! All depends on your opinion.
Good music. Not so good coffee. Its fine to offer mostly flavored and dark roast coffees but its 2018. Tastes have changed, yes, even in Hoboken. People want light roast and single origins. Empire needs to up their game.
