The girls were very friendly! Mya was very helpful when we called and asked about the boots. When we arrived, she greeted us and carried on a great conversation. Both girls working in the back store and the one working in the front store were super engaged and enjoyed what they did. Customer service is just as important as finding the right gift for family traveling from afar. This place excelled in that regard. Though we didn’t find the right sized boot we were able to find clothes and were given another store to try.

Absolutely love this place! The staff is very friendly and helpful. It’s a great atmosphere to be in and they even play the best music! Not to mention the beautiful view of Kachemak Bay. They have the cutest clothing, jewelry, and other Alaskan made goodies. Will definitely be stopping in again!

I went to Homer for the first time this summer and as I love AkStarfish apparel I figured I needed to stop in, especially since my boyfriend had never been there either. The view is BEAUTIFUL and the staff were so helpful and made my first time there great! Perfect for shopping for yourself or finding cool gift items for others.

Not surprising at all to see common themes in the lower review (also not surprised to see the EMPLOYEES are the ones giving this location good reviews...). I’ve come here a few times during my time in the area and each time I’ve observed (or been the victim) of someone working there having some snarky remarks/mannerisms. Who knows - maybe it’s just that hard to find good employees now a days? Not my problem since I’ve chosen not to frequent this shop anymore.

The women working at Ak Starfish are always very helpful. They know their apparel like the back of their hand and can instantly tell you what designs come on what colors. The store in Homer is located right on the ocean with huge floor to ceiling windows that capture the beauty or the Homer spit while shining daylight on the local Alaskan jewelry they carry. I would recommend this store to Alaskans and people visiting Alaska! They have something for everyone.

I came to this shop for the first time yesterday evening. I’m not surprised to see others have left this shop such negative reviews. While the aesthetic of the store itself is pleasing, the employees were certainly not. They continuously made both my fiancé I and uncomfortable with their constant interruptions and stares. It was evident to us they were being passive aggressive to let us know we were unwanted there - despite our courteous and calm mannerisms. I purchased some items that were lovely, but I will never return because of how disappointing the staff is. I’m happy to support better businesses in the future.

AK Starfish Co. Homer is an absolute MUST. They have the best spot on the Spit. (not only because the view, but because the yummiest gelato is right next to them) I truly could hang out there all day, especially because the staff and owner are all so friendly, fun and helpful. Everything they have in their shops is locally made, which is so cool. I am wearing my hoodie as I type this review. I just love this LOCAL company so much.AK STARFISH CO. FOR LIFE. :)

Rude employees. Ended up discarding my items and choosing not to support this business after being yelled at for smelling an already opened up balm - maybe think twice about hiring little girls that gossip the entire time you’re trying to shop instead of assisting customers in finding sizes.

I brought my girlfriend to your store on her birthday, and looking for items both herself and for our children. Shed never been to your store or to Homer before. There were 4 or 5 young ladies working, and over the few short minutes we were in the store, they made us both very uncomfortable, more importantly, making my girlfriend feel uncomfortable. My girlfriend wears a size large, generally. At least 5 different times, she was informed, sometimes by shouting from across the store, that she was looking in the wrong section, because the sizes she was looking at were only small and extra small. Then while looking at larges she was told multiple times that your products run small. Then she was told several times to look at the unisex items because they were less form fitting (There is nothing at all wrong with my girlfriends form and if she wants to wear clothing that fits it and, God forbid, even show it off, then I dont see a problem with that.). Then she was told to look around the other corner where the XLs and XXLs were located (People know what size they wear. The XXL suggestion was completely unnecessary). We had been camping and the weather was cool, so she was wearing 2 hoodies, as was I, which may have contributed to your employees confusion about what size she might best fit in, but the fact is that this was very rude, very unhelpful, and very poor and unprofessional customer service. I say this as a college instructor who has taught courses in customer service, but also as a human being with common decency and sense. Your employees seem to need to be trained to communicate with each other to know who has interacted with what guest, so as not to bombard or overwhelm them. They also need to be trained about how to speak to their guests without body shaming or being insulting. To add insult to injury, when my girlfriend had been insulted to the point of frustration, she told one of your employees that her behavior had made my girlfriend uncomfortable and tried to explain how the interactions had been inappropriate and rude, but rather than apologize or seek to understand, the employee just argued and made excuses. Apologies go a long way in customer service, even if you dont understand or agree. We ended up having a really great rest of the day, but that visit definitely made a significant negative impact on my girlfriends birthday, as nobody wants to be made to feel fat over and over just because theyre looking at t-shirts that poorly trained young salespeople dont think they should be looking at.Train your employees, please. Nobody should be body shamed, especially on their birthdays.
