This place is already pretty well known. Lines start forming well before opening, and there are only a handful of seats inside. Get there early and be prepared for a wait. They have an uncovered deck with more seating if you dont mind risking the rain. My toddler really enjoyed the deck.If you love oysters, dont miss this place. We ordered one of everything, and it was all superb. I was particularly impressed with the baked oysters, as those are usually drier than raw on the half-shell, but these seem like they are just kissed by the fire, because they were juicy and insanely delicious. I dont think theres anything they serve thats not very good, but anything oyster is really quite special. The raw on the half shell were up there with anything else Ive ever had, and the baked were hands down better than Ive ever had before. I just wish they had more seating. Also, there were some disgruntled guests after us, because we had quite a few, and then there was a group of gentlemen after us who apparently ordered 8 dozen apiece, so they had to shuck dozens more only minutes after opening, and there was a 45 minute delay. I dont really see how the restaurant was supposed to do anything differently, but if youre impatient, perhaps try somewhere else.In our estimation, the meal was well worth the wait, and the setting is lovely. I would definitely eat there again, and think this restaurant easily earns a four or five on the Nichter food rating scale (see my other reviews for an explanation).
The experience was a 5 star experience. Panoramic ocean views, cosy and charming, excellent staff and very fresh seafood. Great little gem of a spot. Also very reasonably priced. Highly recommend
We had oysters and a dish they called the Pan Dish with a lobster citrus broth, scallops, shrimp, a tomato base, and rice. It was Very good. The oysters were the freshest oysters I have had in a long time. The indoor seating is very limited, but there are some tables outside and a window for service n the deck. It’s beer and wine only. They serve everything in glass and ceramic dishware with regular silverware, even if you are sitting outside on the deck - no plastic here!We come to a Homer almost every year and will definitely be back.
Love everything about this place. Food always perfect and the most spectacular ambiance imaginable. A Homer treasure.
Amazing food! we took our kids and they loved it too.
Very pricey for oysters. Kinda surprised it was more expensive here where they are apparently the growers than other places on the spit which are probably buying from these folks. Overall my girlfriend really enjoyed them. Was 58 bucks for a dozen oysters and a beer. Otherwise we did think the quality was there and the staff was very helpful
Good vibes all around at the Broken Oar Oyster Bar. The seafood and brews here are stellar. Being from Arizona, we enjoyed meeting chef/owner Brian and his mom…Our best meal so far in AK.
There is a small bar here that serves fresh oysters and clams. They only place we found oysters while we were in Alaska. They were very good.
The oysters and peel-n-eat shrimp were SPECTACULAR! This little oyster bar could easily be overlooked by the rest of the spit.
Raw oysters were awesome but the shrimp was mushy and flavorless sauce. Beautiful view.
Best oysters I ever had anywhere!
Wish we could have eaten here more! So delicious!
Great food easy going environment.
Out of oysters and service was horrible. Slow
Local oysters, as fresh as they get
Delicious local seafood!
Great oysters:))))
Serving excellent local seafood. It’s on the pricier side but great quality in a casual setting. Friendly people.
Vince is an oyster fan and these are right out of bay today. So good.
Best oysters in Homer!
Fantastic food, great vibe, our group of friends had alot of fun here
I have ate oysters all over the world and these are THE BEST!! It has honestly ruined all other oysters for me! Nothing compares. They taste like the ocean and are always super fresh. Just celebrated my birthday and had them shipped out to me, I closed my eyes and it was just as if I was standing on the beach there eating them! Customer for life, thank you thank you!!
They recently opened an oyster bar store front and will be serving wine and beer too! It is a great place for oysters fresh from the bay and from a small local business. The view is amazing and there is a big deck, not to mention the great service. We had a great time!!
Must do
Its no exaggeration to say that these are the best oysters in the world. Some folks may complain about the prices at the oyster bar that opened last summer, to you I say buy and shuck your own.
Needs more ice to make it Friendswood Texas. They were warm box wet on bottom. Gulf is bad this year because of oil companies messing up the Gulf. Greg Wowk
Loved the oysters, sat on the beach watching the sunset while eating fresh oysters is the best
Quality oysters at a good price bought from the actual producers
Good Quality but Spendy
Really lousy service. We were never greeted and rarely checked on. I have celiac disease so I would get very sick if I eat gluten, and the server was completely put out when I asked for a side of chips. She said she, doesnt modify her menu. Eventually she did give us the chips, but charged $5 for it without asking. Meanwhile her friend ranted to her (loud enough so we could hear) about how horrible people are who ask for gluten free or vegan things.
Server was super rude about my partners questions about gluten (he has celiac disease), and spent most of the time talking to her friend at the bar. And the oysters were better at the Saltry! Also, they were out of all three soups and didnt communicate that until wed ordered drinks and starters.
Nice place except the oysters were not in yet
Great oysters and a fantastic place next door called Homer Spit Oyster Bar where we got ti eat them!
The Oyster Pho Soup is absolutely to die for! What a cute little place to sit and enjoy the view while trying out something local
