Had the best visit ever at this record store! I took my nephew there to look for a record player and maybe a few albums. The owner was on site and directed us to a player and speakers appropriate for a new enthusiast and decently priced. Frankly if I didnt already have one, I would go back and get the same one for me. We definitely found some great music while we were there. Fun selection of new and REALLY fun selection of used albums. I honestly was suprised at how mint condition the previously used albums were. I definitely recommend checking them out. Plus bonus - supporting a local business!

Mill City is a great place to find an incredible selection of new and used records including some of those truly hard to find selections. They also sell record players and related gear for those looking to get started or someone looking to step up to something a little better than what they have. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and theres a parking ramp right behind the store for convenience. Since its in down town Hopkins theres plenty of places in a short walk for food, beverage and entertainment so make a day of it. After all, you could spend hours just looking through Mill City Sound.

This record store is really, really great. One of those shops on your list for regular visits for digging. From the store layout, to the isle spacing and comfortability etc. The selection is really diverse. I found multiple things here on my visit, and I have a huge collection which is missing a few HTF LPs. Found one here! Prices are very fair and competitive, no price gouging here. Staff is great. I will be back here as often as I can. As a serious vinyl collector, take my word for it, no matter what your listening taste, you will find vinyl here! Came in from out of state, and ashamed to say Ive never been in before.

I just went inside, and I was blown away. I browsed through the store collection and I was impressed with the variety. Then one of the employees approached me giving me some amazing artist and album recommendations. Me and the employee had an excellent conversation while I was picking out some albums. Finally, I left with five legendary albums for a $20 bargain I will be absolutely coming back to this place, it truly felt like an amazing candy store for music lovers

Awesome selection of vinyl. The bargain bin is where I always start. Great buys! Then I move upstairs to the featured lps. That is the best selection of rare and hard to find records o have ever seen. If youre looking for a specific band, they have it.

Great shop! Everything is really well organized, the shop is really clean, and theyve got some real gems if youre into digging. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable.If youre looking for COVID safety, they have you covered. Masks (proper usage!) are enforced, and the store is big enough that you dont have to wait outside while others browse.This is definitely going to be a regular stop for me.

These people are so friendly and helpful when you want it. They diagnosed my turntable and sold me a cartridge. They have turntables for sale, and they have the greatest selection of used and new cds and LPs. Good parking and access in the back, also.

This is a good record store in the west metro, its got a good selection of imports, new and used. Anywhere that has a vinyl vault is gonna be cool.

Out of all of the record stores Ive been to, this is my favorite one! Really good selection of records and cds, with decent prices which you dont seem to see around anymore. I love that they have a place where you can listen to a record in the basement area, really love that idea. They have $.99 boxes with cds, and surprisingly it has a good selection of cds.

Bright, clean and well organized store. Very helpful and friendly staff as well. It appears they clean all their used stock before putting it out for sale which is a huge plus. If you are used to shopping for records at the Cheapos of the world you should check these folks out instead.

I bought an affordable record player and got to look through a huge collection of records. Old and new. Some records I wouldnt assume they would have. Great find. I will be going back. Its nice to have a local record store to go to and enjoy. Its a little time machine.

Mill City Sound is a great addition to the area recording stores. Not much for a new or used CD selection but they have new and used vinyl well covered. Depending upon your interest make sure to look downstairs at the vinyl there. If youre willing to dig, gems can be found at a reasonable price. If you are just starting in vinyl they have a small selection of reasonably priced turntables tested and ready to take home and plug in. Cool books and other memorabilia. They are well worth the trip out to the western suburb and downtown Hopkins has its own charm to go with.

Was pleasantly surprised with how many new vinyls they have. Just wish they had a bit more of a modern selection with new artists like Juice WRLD and XXX. A lot of older artists here and if you are into that, then good on ya, youll find it here

Theres a lot of competition in the Twin Cities for the best record store, and Im glad we have all that we do. For my money, though, Mill City Sound is the top - amazing selection of old and new LPs and CDs from all eras and genres, prices that are MORE than fair for even the high-end stuff, and a staff that is nice, knowledgable and not snobby.

Rob was sooooo nice and knowledgeable!!! I sold a few records to them, which I wasnt sure theyd even buy, and got a very reasonable amount for them!!! Love the total experience here and GREAT customer service all around!!!

I decided to purchase a turntable for my dad for fathers day add hes been looking for one for awhile now. I was recommended by my nephew and I can say Ive never had such an easy process of buying online and going to the store to pick it up and finding some great records for my dad, just the nicest people you will ever meet!!!! They even setup the player for my dad which was even better for me lol! 80 years and going strong he deserves it!

Very helpful. They set me up with a new combo cartridge to get my inherited turntable up and running. It rarely happens, but their cost for my item was lower than Amazon. Look forward to returning to purchase some records.

Every time I come here theres something insanely cool I cant afford and it breaks my heart. This last time it was a first press of Horse Rotorvator by Coil. Best selection of used vinyl in the cities. Prices are also pretty good (used to be better but thats just how it always goes isnt it?). Luckily my parents live in Hopkins so I often have an excuse to stop in.

Good selection of used/new records at a good price... BUT! I am really disappointed with how I was just treated by the employees when trying to sell records. Just tried to bring in some used records to sell and was turned away because the “buyer” wasn’t there... which would be fine if the staff wasn’t so rude about it. The man said “let me see if he would be interested” then looks at the first record and says “definitely no”. Then proceeded to spew off times when the buyer would be there. There website is misleading, stating “we don’t cherrypick”. Looks like I am going to be bringing my business elsewhere...

Oh my god best vinyl store Ive been in so far. I just wish I lived closer. This place has so many records used and new. You cant ever run out of stuff to listen to if you shop here. Once again they charge retail prices for all the new stuff but my god there used vinyl section is second to none. I love it here.

Wonderful record store. They always have good music going through their sound system, which, to me, is always a good sign. They have a nice selection of vinyl with many new arrivals for used records coming in daily. The store is very well organized. They have a good selection of CDs as well. They recently added a bargain area in their basement with plenty of fun gems to find.

This place was a blast today, first time visitor. Recommended to me be a local audiophile... Brought a couple treasures home and they both were spotlessly clean and played sweet.

Stopped by for a new cart for my new turntable and the owner of the joint installed it and aligned it, all while chatting me up. Cost less than I was planning, so I was able to grab a clutch of new to me records. This will be a new regular stop for me!

An impressive selection of used classical vinyl is my personal high point, with the only noticeable drawback being a lack of customer-accessible turntables for record evaluation (its very hard for me to spend money without knowing what Im getting). Mill City Sound has a great selection of new and used records with a CD section too. Also, the staff was extremely helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. I bought my first turntable here and they balanced/set up the turntable while teaching me all about how it works. They also have a great membership program there. Ask them about it when you go in.

There’s no way I have the time to browse all the racks to hunt for what I want. Dedicated Metal section would be a huge improvement.

Hands down best record store Ive ever been to! Ive traveled all over the work looking at different vinyl stores and this is the one. Best prices and best obscure 80s. Im going to fly out next time just for this! Oh and special thanks to Chandra that let me stay a few after to browse. 😊

Found many records I had as a teen. Good condition, reasonably priced. Huge selection.

I just cant say enough good about this store, their selection of used vinyl is incredible and always it great condition. Seems like I always get into a good conversation with Rob about some of my selections and I always learn allot. Today I got into a conversation with another employee also and was really enjoying the music they were playing. It is always a very satisfying experience shopping there and I only wish my retired person budget afforded more frequent visits.

Had some time before our movie started, so my son and I went out on Main Street to kill some time. Had no idea this place was here. What a great store! The atmosphere is pretty cool with sweet jams playing in the background. Makes me want to buy a record player. A+

Awesome place! Well organized, well stocked, amazing selection in both new and used records, prices are reasonable enough but if you dig close enough you’ll find a steal or two. The wall is always full of amazing must have and even rare records. They also have a healthy stock of box sets. If you follow their IG page they post videos on Friday’s with breathtakingly essential recent arrivals.

I love this record store! Its located right on Mainstreet in Hopkins. Weve had no problems finding street parking the numerous times weve gone. There does seem to be a lot behind the building, and there is a back door to enter as well. I dont know if there is parking for the store though. The selection of records, new and used is substantial, and they have a basement that you dont want to miss out looking around for something to add to your collection. They have a members program, Im not clear yet what all the befits are, but I think there is a percentage off some things possibly. The staff is delightful and helpful with questions. Definitely recommend Mill City!

Awesome record store, huge selection and fair prices. Havent bought any hardware yet but theyve been super helpful and even walked me through a repair step on the phone when I had asked a question earlier in the day about how to fix something on my old console. And they always have awesome tunes pumping in the store. This record store gets 11/10 stars becuase ten just isnt high enough!
