This was my 1st time to Blacksmith and I will definitely be back. The food was good. I ordered the Salmon Pesto Scramble and my sister ordered the bacon and egg n cheese biscuit. The biscuits are thick and crumbly textured. So of you like that type of biscuit thats what I recommend. It can be filling. The coffee was great! Pictures is caramel café latte and it was done to perfection. Even if you order a cup of black coffee the coffee is a good grade of bean to drink without anything extra!
Their coffee is incredible. But you can read that in any review...heres the real secret about this place. BEST CROISSANT outside of Croissant Brioche.tbh all their food is really spectacular. biscuits are the classic. salmon/dill scramble is yummycant go wrong at blacksmith
Lovely little coffee shop. Indoor and outdoor seating. Great food menu and baked goods. Excellent coffee offerings with lots of decaf and alternative milk options.
Great coffee place that offers breakfast and lunch menu too. We had the blacksmith bowl and the vietnamese steak and eggs for lunch and it was a good portion! They also have a wode range of tea selection if coffee isnt your thing.Logistics: ample parking space at the back of their store. Currently not having any indoor service, you place your order through their backdoor, and you can sit on their patio. If youre maskless, you can order on their website / or call ahead and they can bring it up to you like curbside.
Great coffee. Had their Chi Latte and loved it as well. They are pretty hard on masks. So be aware and respectful when you come in.It was a sour experience for me. There were four of us, three of us had our drinks and were waiting for our fourth friend. We took our masks off to sip some delicious coffee and were asked to do so outside. Masks are STRICTLY enforced.Great products! Recommend for sure.
Outdoor seating with proper sun shielding, got to love it. Small but effective coffee menu, with a side of teas and some other items. Havent had food from here in years but the recent menu looks awesome. Worth your time to stop here.
Delicious breakfast. I had the steel cut oats with strawberries blueberries and mixed nuts. I also had the croissant with cheese, bacon and a fried egg on top. Yummy.
One of my favorite coffee shops in Houston. Excellent cortados, great food, and sells beans from Greenway roasters. Also I love the free drink when you buy a bag of beans!
The quality of food is outstanding and their prices reflect that. However, I ordered a biscuit and eggs over medium and I received a croissant with eggs over hard. The lady who brought us our food didn’t speak English so not much I could do unless I wanted to stand up and tell other employees but I wasn’t going to do that. The gentleman next to me also didn’t receive the correct food he had ordered.Service needs to improve. Probably won’t come back.
Breakfast was outstanding! If you go, you MUST try their biscuits. Believe me, I know what great biscuits are. Their biscuits are the closest thing to my grandmothers Ive ever had. That says more than you know.
Good food and pleasant cool vibe.
First time here and I have one word, basic.Had the steak and eggs and the enchiladas.Steak is not prepared fresh, basically a stew and is most likely precooked and frozen, side salad came undressed and not seasoned, wilted with browning ends; something that should NEVER be served to a customer. Eggs not seasoned and over cooked, Pate came in a plastic solo cup...? Are you serious? Although the dish was bland, the cook on the steak was not terrible.Chicken enchiladas were bland. Chicken not seasoned, eggs over cooked and not seasoned, however the sauce was the saving grace of this dish otherwise it would be a dry mess.Presentation of both dishes did not meet my expectations of a restaurant with such high ratings and regard. Not a good first impression, unfortunately.
Easily one of thr beat coffe shops in Houston. Rich, well balanced and strong espresso drinks. Excellent group of batistas. Lots of food option, all of which are fresh and tasteful. Plating could be optimized as sometimes the dishes are awkward to eat from (e.g BLT) or make the dish look incohesive (platter).
This is one of the best coffee houses I’ve been to anywhere. The best part is: the service is amazing. Everyone on staff is so friendly and extremely helpful. They literally make you feel as if you’re a special guest at their home. The coffee is delicious (I tried the drip medium roast). The Cortado breve hits the spot with the right level of creaminess and hints of sweetness from the beans themselves. They have a selection of beans and other items to purchase as well. The ambiance is chill, yet noisy enough to create an atmosphere where you can concentrate if that’s what you need or you can space out and day dream if that’s what you’re in the mood for ;).The food that I’ve tried is deliciously flavorful. The bowl has a mix of flavors and textures that keep delighting: hints of lime, spiciness from the steak, the umami from the mashed avocado, the fullness of the white cheese. All in all, you’ll keep eating and once you’re done, your taste buds will miss what you just had even though you’re actually too full to even move. There are plenty of seats indoors and outdoors. Definitely check this place out - hands down one of the best places to come chill at.
I LOVE Blacksmith coffee. I always order an Oat Milk Vanilla Latte, sometimes I order with 4 shots... super delicious and makes me happy. The food is so yummy too. My favorite is the Silver Platter Chilaquiles add Avocado, with the Enchiladas a close second. Another recent favorite is an iced Chai Tea with Oat Milk. Every time my twin sister comes to town I take her to Blacksmith several times. Her favorite is the Scratch Square Biscuits both sweet and savory options. One of my old school favorites, no long on the menu, is Kentucky Hot Brown.... Legendary. Recently they have added some new awesome sweet treats such as; sprinkle cookies, banana bread, maple pecan scones, coffee cake and more.
Nice little spot for coffee. Will try the food options next time. They are very responsible for keeping seating outside. There’s plenty of shade, even in the afternoon. Hopefully we will make some more progress with vaccinations in the next few weeks and the inside will open up again as other places are doing. The barista was super friendly. It’s a very nice chill spot. :)
Favorite coffee shop in town. Great breakfasts, tea and coffee. Some of the best biscuits in town. I also love the salmon dill scramble on pumpernickel.
Blacksmith has the best food of any coffee shop I’ve ever visited. The hot breakfast items are all delicious and restaurant quality. Of course the bottomless drip and espresso drinks are fantastic as well. There is patio seating on site and parking in the back. Definitely recommend adding this into your weekend rotation!
This is one of the first coffee places I tried in Houston & I was so happy I chose this place. The coffee is phenomenal & the food is delicious!I have been there many times since & it never disappoints.Customer service is great. It can get hectic since they are pretty popular but the wait is worth it. The wait is never too much either.I have tried hot & iced coffee & both along with food are always impressive.
This is one cafe that has good drinks but just okay food.We ordered the Hot Cocoa and Vanilla Latte. They were nice. The temperature of the drinks was perfect to drink without burning your mouth, but if you like your drink hot, ask for extra hot.The Smoked Salmon Dill Scramble comes on a toast and makes the toast soggy. Itll be better to get the toast in the side. The Scratch Square Biscuit with cheddar, egg, and sausage was nothing to remember. The sausage was extra chewy and the biscuit was toasted in more than necessary amount of butter. That being said the atmosphere was very good as a cafe. There were a lot of people working on their laptops. Its a good place to grab a drink and work but I cant recommend it to grab a bite.
I told them I liked coffee flavored with COFFEE. Exactly what I got! ❤♥️❤
Quality coffee & tea drinks and delicious breakfast options. I highly recommend the dill scramble as it comes in salmon on top of pumpernickel bread. Inside the atmosphere is relaxed & inviting. The music was a touch too loud for my tastes, so I made my way outside. There are two outdoor seating areas which, unfortunately, are surrounded by busy streets, but the west side is a bit quieter.Ample parking & a bike share station on the adjacent corner for those brave enough to bike Houstons streets.
Blacksmith is definitely charming. Their coffee was just ok, but our food was good and the service was fast and friendly.
Great service and great good. I highly recommend the Vietnamese Steak & Eggs.
Great coffee and tasty scratch biscuits! One big downside is the use of styrofoam for to-go drinks - I wish they would change this!
I grabbed a Croissant with egg, bacon and cheese, and the sugar cane latte. The sandwich was ok not great not bad, but the sugar cane latte was amazing. Its just the right sweetness. Really smooth and enjoyable. They cram a good amount of seating in a small area, and its surprisingly not too loud. The staff was generous and friendly. Im looking forward to trying some of the other coffees and teas. The price is reasonable and there is a good amount of parking, which in this area is a huge plus. Id mainly come here just to get some work done and enjoy a drink, but I am open to trying some of the more elaborate dishes.
Very nice place, comfy welcoming atmosphere. I got a regular latte and a croissant with cream fresh (?) and some sort of jam (I dont remember). The latte was very softly flavoured, I normally like darker ones but it was nicely balanced. The croissant was so flaky, soft, and warm. The latte art was my all time favourite part, the barista who made it is so talented. Would definitely recommend this to everyone.
Blacksmith is a nice place to go to for a quick bite and coffee during the morning or afternoon. However, it closes at 5 pm, so dont think of Blacksmith as a good nighttime spot. They have a free private parking lot which is a huge plus for the Montrose area. They also have outdoor patios if it gets too stuffy inside. They serve breakfast and lunch as well.We ordered the Latté ($4.00) and the Vietnamese Steak and Eggs ($15.00) on a Saturday afternoon. The place was packed, but we were able to find seating at the bar beside the cashier. The steak and eggs were good, but they really need to chill on the salt. The meal was served with a bun and small side salad, but I found it a bit overpriced at $15, especially since the meat was much too salty. We enjoyed the latté, it was creamy and they even did some latté art on it.Overall, Blacksmith is a nice little coffee shop. I like that they have their own free private parking lot, outdoor patios, and that they serve good coffee. However, it closes at 5 pm, so its not a place Id frequently go.
Delicious food and coffee! You have to get the biscuits!
Great place with good vibes.
Love this place! Great coffee, awesome chilaquiles, sweet people
Superior food and coffee! They elevate breakfast making it a fantastic stop for a leisurely morning on the porch, but offer carefully packed to-go options so you can enjoy a better breakfast on the go. I cannot say enough great things about Blacksmith and its chef Chris Shepherd, James Beard Award Winner. If youre in town looking for great local eats or just swinging past on your normal route, this is a gem not to miss!
I love visiting coffee shops, and I’ve had my eyes on Blacksmith for a while. I finally went this morning and I enjoyed my experience. I arrived around 9:30 and even though there was a line, it moved quickly. I ordered an iced americano and the silver platter chilaquiles. The chilaquiles were delicious; the chips were crunchy and the salsa verde tasted similar to my mom’s. I kinda wished they served the iced drinks in a glass instead of a plastic cup like they do their hot drinks but oh well. Next time, I’ll make sure to bring my glass cup. Although the place looks small, there’s plenty of seating to study. Plenty of parking too.
Always amazes me how out of town restaurants and even small diners trump over Corpus Christi
Blacksmith has expertly-prepared coffee, delicious food and a professional, friendly staff. Lots of outdoor seating. Solid Wifi. Been coming here for three+ years to buy my whole bean coffee and have no plans of slowing down. :)Im continually impressed by the staff. Just this morning, I absentmindedly carried my puppy into the store in the middle of an early-morning-global-pandemic-uncaffeinated brainfog. I ordered my coffee and the barista quickly finished the transaction. They then politely and clearly pointed out that they dont allow pups inside. I apologized and they were very gracious and understanding. The barista then offered a great, simple solution for any future early morning visits with my pup: order my coffee from the pickup window outside. Works for me! I remain a very happy, loyal customer and the shop can remain in compliance with sensible health regulations. Win-win situation. Overall, I was very impressed with how the staff calmly and cooly handled what couldve been a very awkward customer service encounter. Its positive experiences like that really make businesses stand out.
First time here. We were looking for a local coffee shop open on Christmas day. Coffee was excellent. I thanked them for working Christmas and they said they all volunteered.
Excellent coffee, helpful, knowledgeable, and personable baristas.
Hipster coffee shop. good food. not cheap. pretty comprehensive covid protocols.
Great food, highly recommend!
I love this place. I will be bringing family next time. This place has a good design. If it wasnt far from my work I would come by more.
Very kind staff, and chilaquiles were delicious!
Coffee was great, staff not so much. 👎
Excellent coffee and breakfast. Their coffee and biscuit are a must try.
Right now it is to go only, or you can eat on the patio tables. I ordered the popular Vietnamese Steak and Eggs. So I wanted to wash my hands and use the bathroom and when I asked they said no. My food order came and it looked like a 1st graders lunch pack. Eggs were WAY over done and I had a few cubes of steak that was tough. Not nearly worth the price I paid. Probable not going back. It was my first time there so maybe it was just a bad day?
Very thoughtful staff. Their to go order process was fast and I was ordering for a family of four. The food was great, no complaints from the wife and kids. Definitely will come back in the future.
Came here to study on a Sunday. Overall a really great experience. Available plugs and free WiFi.Limited menu but food and drinks are wonderful. Would highly recommend the Vietnamese steak and eggs.Pretty busy around lunch time but table turnover was fast and didn’t have a problem finding a seat.Great seating space, tables for pairs and ample bar-like seating as well. Nice outdoor space along the road, but not too loud and covered.
I ordered something on their website. However, it was out of stock. The manager for very timely in providing feedback and helped me get the product from their supplier. Thank you again, Antoine Franklin!
Had two days in Houston this week and were staying nearby. Decided this joint was the place to go for an early morning coffee and quick breakfast. Absolutely loved the croissant with ham cheese and egg. The wife loved the yougurt and granola. Coffees were exceptional. So good infact. Instead of finding somewhere else to go on he second morning in Houston, we just came back here and tried another coffee and different meals. Dill scramble with salmon was amazing. Well done dudes and dudettes, your joint rocks!
My favorite locally owned coffee shop. The Corrado and flat white are favorite drinks, and the silver platter chilaquiles cant be beat. The employees and fast and friendly. Great Montrose spot.
The coffee is so good and the place is very nice.
I can’t believe this place is full but to pay 4$ for an orange juice and she gets the store jug to fill it. This is the cheap great value jug that’s 100% concentrate. I understand but for 4$ they can buy the whole galloon and it can be not from concentrate. I’m not asking for fresh orange juice which for the price they should provide. If it’s bought at the store at least let it be not from concentrate.
Friendly service. Lots of outdoor patio space
I come here frequently and I really love this place. They have great food, great coffee, and really lovely service. I highly recommend.
Great spot. Friendly service, good coffee, surprisingly good food (scratch square biscuits and chilaquiles are delicious), indoor and outdoor seating, and easy ordering to-go. It can get crowded later in the morning on weekends, so you may want to arrive on the earlier side if youre looking to find a space and get some work done.
Really enjoyed the coffee! Unfortunately they only have almond milk as an alternative option, which made the menu tricky to navigate as someone with a nut allergy & lactose intolerance. Ended up going with a caramel latte with regular cows milk. Still tasted great and they’re doing a good job keeping people social distanced with the pandemic.
Very good. Had a café au lait. Tasty! Staff was friendly and masked. Would recommend!
Excellent coffee and service as always!
This place is great. Good coffee, good food, and I like the layout. Nice brick walls, tall ceilings, and dark tones which make it calm and relaxing. Definitely not a chain type of coffee shop...we need more coffee shops like this.
Very affordable prices with a nice atmosphere and good food. Im not normally a coffee drinker but I had a flat white and really enjoyed it. The biscuits are also really good. Price was very good, service was good, would definitely recommend.
I mean, the hype is correct.
