Delicious breakfast/brunch restaurant. It has a great selection of unique breakfast sandwiches, and even more original donuts (we had an old-fashioned, a chile pineapple fritter, and a goat cheese and pomegranate). Great for a tasty and quick bite.

Its a great location to spend time with family and friends and drink coffee with donuts.They have very fresh and delicious donuts.Also, you can reserve the place for your kids birthday party and kids can dressing the donuts by themselves and having too much fun.

Really enjoy this place, the staff is always friendly and most of the food I’ve see. Looks delicious. I tried the crispy rice dish, which was unfortunately very dry and upset my stomach.I will go back and order some other food ain’t future. Also great tasting water.

We really enjoyed this unique little brunch spot. Adorable atmosphere, great service, fun food and great coffee. Its the full package.For food, Our family favorite was the Korean steak and eggs breakfast but we also got two of the bisquets and thought they were fabulous. For donuts we tried the peanut butter cup and the blood orange. Both were great.We will def be back!

This place is chill and relaxing. It has an Asian fusion characteristic which is rare to find in H-town. Coffee was excellent, I ordered Cartado and it came out just as I have expected. Wife got the Scandinavian pancake balls and they were amazingly soft and tasty. For me on the other hand got the crispy rice and unfortunately not a big fan. Its a pity that I dont find the rice crispy but felt more like uncooked. Anyway I look forward to trying other dishes!

Incredible food. When you are hungry past the point of decision look no further. This place will definitely satiate your hunger. There is no better feeling then enjoying a meal that was beyond your expectation. Morningstar is just that place.

We came with four people and to kids. The seating is modest for small groups. Id say our group was about the max size youd want to bring in order to easily seat yourself. There was two tables for our sized group and a group seating area. Good ambiance.I ordered a specialty drink The Golden Fashion and my confidants ordered the specialty green macha both drinks were a nice experience on their own.Food wise went all out on the doughnuts trying yeast doughnut, old fashioned, and regular (obviously all had their unique toppings). They serve the doughnuts on a platter with pallet cleansers I recommend using them as it makes each doughnut experience much better and the doughnuts are less likely to clash and or cause you to dislike any of the flavors.We all are a piece of the Fluffy pancakes by GOD you must try them atleast one person in your group should absolutely order a plate of those. Amazing 😍 fluffy and light.The biscuit sandwiches were difficult to eat, due to the nature of the biscuit it was crumbly and hard to handle the group enjoyed theirs but it wasnt as enjoyable as the buns used for the double click sandwich.All in all theres something for everyone and I recommend trying atleast one of everything because youll end up finding something you didnt know youll like.I was very impressed with the complexity of the dishes and am excited that these plates exist and that the cooks are able to execute them.

They were good but not memorable.Maybe Im partial because Im a Houstonian, but after having had these fancy and overpriced donuts, I still craved a simple, fresh, and hot glazed donut from Shipleys. Nothing compares period.Aside from the donuts, the staff is friendly and helpful. The dining room is chill. And they have a modest patio as well.I enjoyed the atmosphere of the cafe more than the donuts.Last plus, you can customize your own donuts for catering orders. Thats cool.

Best donuts I’ve had in a long time. They’re glazed donut is moist not fried too hard and cakey. It’s perfect with coffee in the morning or just a treat if you have a sweet tooth. They also partner with other businesses, so you may be able to find them other places too.

Cute medium sized cafe with a hint of steampunk in the atmosphere. It has all the classics coffee offerings and an interesting selection on doughnuts and other pastries.Wifi works well. Music is a bit interesting but not overly loud. Good for studying with headphones or catching up with friends.

Excellent doughnut/breakfast place with many vegan, gluten free, and paleo options (including a paleo doughnut), as well as many classic breakfast options to have a something for everyone. Service was quick and presentation on drinks and food we got was great. And it was delicious! Only downside is it was packed, but it was also a Saturday. Im already dreaming about going back.

This place is our Sunday morning ritual. The coffee, food and donuts are delectable, and the atmosphere is always bright. The place really takes the cake (donut) for breakfast. I got a vegan hibiscus donut for my girlfriend, a poppy-seed-lemon cake donut and a blueberry donut along with a nice rose, I believe, latte. I also got a bacon-cheddar biscuit and it was gold standard. This place is easily on par with District Donuts in New Orleans. Everything has a scratch kitchen feel and unique taste. The donuts were hands down some of the best Ive ever had and the gentleman facilitating the entire transaction was super helpful and knowledgeable. I wish I had gotten his name so I could name him.Cant wait to come back and recommend it to everyone I know.

Loved it. I had a latte with almond milk and a almond flour donut. Both delicious. Our oldest had the rice pudding, which was amazing. Loved the atmosphere and the service. Their menu is really interesting. Would love to visit for breakfast or lunch some time.

Ordered the moneycat potatoes with a soft boiled egg, and brisket kolaches.Half the larger chunks of potatoes werent cooked through. The soft boiled egg was cold, so when I spilled the yoke over my potatoes it made them fairly cold, too.Kolaches were just alright. Nothing special, and not worth the cost.Donuts were fine.

Small little shop with lots to offer. The variety of drink and food is pretty expansive. Traditional coffees, loose leaf brewed teas, matcha. Brunch menu including house made biscuit sandwiches, drool worthy tacos, savory kolaches, fun twist on traditional menu items such as the mineycat potatoes and pancake bites. The list of donuts varies anywhere from your usual glazed to matcha glazed, matcha powder, pbj, rasberry and a nice assortment of vegan options. Friendly staff and speedy service. We will definitely be back.

Definitely my favorite coffee shop in the area, and thats saying something considering the competition around the Heights. The service is always outstanding. There are always great new donuts to try and hot food is great too. I also always buy my whole beans from them. Cant miss.

Times have be chaotic and trying times, but i must say these guys here at Morning Star have been grinding it out and still taking care if it’s guest. Always have a great attitude and are upbeat. Great breakfast. Doughnuts, biscuits, kolaches, and coffee were all very good. Cortado should be an espresso with only a touch of milk though.

Coffee is ok, haven’t tried the food but costumer service is more important to me. The asian cashier was very pretentious and rude to us, rolling his eyes at my questions. But was very helpful to white couple behind us. Don’t want to assume things but if he was having a bad day he shouldn’t be at the cashier. Never spending my money at this place again.

Im a big fan of Morningstar - its pricey, but you absolutely get what you pay for here. Sometimes Ill sneak in on the way to work and get a matcha donut and an americano... because I just cant help it. Blacksmiths risky sister-shop project landed, visit as soon as possible.

First visit today and thoroughly enjoyable. Note that their sign is painted flat so youll have to look hard the first time you go, but after that youll be fine, of course :) Lovely physical premises with indoor and outdoor seating, and inside there are gorgeous visual quirks such as built-out walls and interior windows so there are many nooks and comfy places to sit. A medium-sized menu which is in the Goldilocks Zone of just right in terms of range and size - something for most palates and budgets without being too limited or too overwhelming. Good coffee. Donuts looks amazing (though we didnt try any) and the breakfast/brunch items were great. Really friendly staff. Two thumbs up!

Right out of the gate, this place is a little pricey. With that said, I will definitely come back, maybe just not as frequent. The bread products were yum (see pic). I also got a bacon, cheddar and egg (over easy) biscuit sandwich. I inhaled it before I could get a pic (sorry, not sorry). It was very good. I read a lot of reviews about this place having poor customer service, but my visit was great. I was greeted with a smile and multiple employees happily answered all of my questions. Ill be back tomorrow morning for the Chris Shepherd Bacon Sausage Kolaches!!!

This has become my regular Saturday and Sunday morning breakfast spot since moving to the Heights. The food is fresh and delicious and the pomegranate-goat cheese donut is amazeballs. The atmosphere is laid back and terrific for coffee and conversation, even with strangers. I love the diversity of both the staff and the customers.

The Black Rice is ptobsbly the most delicious and Metal breakfast Ive ever had.

Friendly staff. Good food with good variance in options from healthy to indulgent. Their hot and cold drinks are made with quality ingredients, and I believe your taste buds will verify as much. Mostly there is decent room to move about, accept when very crowded, but thats common many places now. Its never too loud inside. The music, if noticeable, is never annoying. You can actually sit and have a decent conversation.

Good donuts. They have a gluten free option (more like a cake donut) thats very good.

Have had coffee and super good donuts before but today had savory lunch items which exceeded any typical coffee shop food. Friend is gluten free and there were lots of options for him. I could see this place being really busy on the weekend, but we were there on a Monday morning and were comfortable enough to get some work done. Staff is very helpful as well. Nice jazz playing today so didnt need headphones.

Stopped for coffee on Saturday morning. Large selection of donuts. Had the cinnamon and brown butter donut and it was amazing. Others ordered biscuits and raved about them. Flat White coffee is delicious!!! Love the atmosphere and the options of vegan and gluten free.

I liked the donuts, the coffee is a bit bitter but Im not exactly a coffee connoisseur, so my opinion isnt really important. I didnt like their potato and egg dish, but again, I can see other people enjoying it. I think this place is great for people who have a more diverse palate. If you are looking for a simple breakfast place you are probably better off somewhere else. If you want something different and more cultured this place is better suited for you.

Top quality coffee and food, but customer service is lacking. Is it really acceptable to rudely toss a guests food on their table and storm off? All you have to do is let someone know they have to wait for their food inside if they’re eating outside. Maybe next time service will be better, looking forward to it!

Morningstar is one of my absolute favorite places! They have great coffee, donuts, and food! Im here at least twice per week.

Good breakfasts and coffee. Have not yet had the donuts but the biscuits are tasty. Have had the scatter breakfast and the biscuit breakfast sandwich (bacon, egg, and cheese). Both good. Worth checking out.

This place has such a great environment for relaxing and talking over a drink and good food. We ordered a mocha and golden monkey tea which were both delicious. The donuts were really good too. They have a donut with chocolate, caramel and coconut and taste like the Girl Scout cookie! Their biscuits are amazing with perfect amount of fluff and texture on the outside. I definitely recommend tying their honey butter biscuit!

Very chill and hipster (in a good way). The food and coffee are bomb. They have little nooks to sit in if you want to drink your coffee in relative privacy. They also have outside seating if youre weird and enjoy Houston weather. Plus the servers are pleasant and helpful. And they do the food delivery app thing, so thats cool.

Great food, but incredibly slow service. Ordering takes a while because theres only one cashier and they also fulfill the simple orders. If you order hot food or a drink, you might need to wait 15 or 20 minutes. The food is really good, made with high quality ingredients, but the service is painfully slow and a drag on their business

Been coming here for two years, Im frequently annoyed by the poor service and attitude of some of the staff, but come for some of their breakfast items which exceed my expectations. One item I frequently get is the GF black and white donut (have had it no less than 20 times over the years) and for whatever reason it was so bad I had to spit it out. So I respectfully called over a member of the staff (didnt want to go to the counter and say anything in front of other guest) and explained to him that this is a regular item I get and that something went wrong with the mix on this batch. He replaced it with something else, but he absolutely made me feel like it was me and there was no effort to see what was wrong. Now, I am completely writing this place off. ✌🏼

The cinnamon toast donut I had was just perfect for my taste. Not to sweet and the texture from the sugar was great. Then I had the biscuit with uncured bacon. I should have requested the egg a bit more on the runny side to let the flaky biscuit absorb the yoke but there is always a next time. I will be back!

Love the demerara latte. I havent tried their breakfast selections yet, but they all sound delicious! They are relatively quick and if there is a wait it usually takes no more than 10 minutes (for coffee/drinks).

Just moved to the neighborhood and Ive been here 5/7 days a week. RECOMMEND the lemon poppy seed donut! Staff is super friendly and pet friendly with outside table and water bowl VERY busy weekends with a line out the door around 10 am

Good was pretty good and displayed nicely. I did think I was lost on my way here. The location is a bit hidden.

The restaurant was clean. The cashier was courteous and kind. I felt he could have done a better job explaining some of the vegan choices (Im a new vegan) Id probably go back to this place for vegan donuts. Perhaps next time, if I choose to back he (who was male at time of ordering) or she would explain to new customers about the selections. Highly doubt it though. We live in a different time.

This place has a very chill vibe for brunch. The chia oatmeal was really good. My boyfriend ordered the black rice oatmeal and it was warm and tasty too.Great selection of coffee, my solo espresso was perfect and he had their sweet latte.Highly recommend for brunch.

Food was phenomenal, however a little expensive. The cashier had little to no knowledge of what was popular or what was good at the time because he stated he was vegan. The donuts were awesome though.

Pistachio and peanut butter donut is my fave. Recently they hired a new barista, cool guy with great hair and knows so much about coffee. Truly up’d the coffee experience.

Burger was amazingly good and so was the Horchata! Great place for Brunch! The best part of all was that the owner spoke to us regarding our food! She was very nice!

I had a great time vising this place. The staff is very friendly and attentive, and the chairs we sat on had very comfortable shape and cushion. My husband loved their coffee and their matcha frost donut. We also had their vegan curry, but I was not impressed with it at all. It lacked flavor, the portion seemed almost kid-size, there were hardly any vegetables in it, and it was just overpriced for what you get. As a disclaimer, Im a curry lover and have a lot to compare the flavor to. Still giving this place 5 start and plan on visiting again for their donuts, coffee, atmosphere, and to give their other foods a try.

We eat here all the time but the food has been inconsistent. I made a to-go order today and the crispy rice had a pool of grease from the ground beef. It killed the whole dish. Last time I ordered the crispy rice they forgot the ground beef altogether. Sometimes it’s spicy sometimes it’s not. The chicken biscuit was dry and overcooked. The black rice never has a consistent amount of coconut milk and sometimes it’s served hot, sometimes it’s cold.

We loved Morning Star so much that we ended up eating here for breakfast both days of our trip. The workers are knowledgeable and friendly. Excellent coffee and delicious food. This place is a must.

The donuts totally fascinated my daughter but there were two hairs on it. They allow dogs outside so we couldnt eat out as we planned. We did but the lady with the dog was not docile. Friendly staff, but they dont pay attention to details and their customers when a lot of people start coming in. I had to go in and ask if my coffee was ready which was a bummer. I would not go back even if Houstonia wrote good ratings about it because my Double Clucker was not that big of a deal as advertised. It was edible and cute but not a Michelin Star sandwich at all.
