We were recommended to go here for some good quality plywood for our pantry cabinet project. The selection is unreal. Rough lumber, s4s lumber, beautiful plywood, and cutting/planing services available. The guys were very helpful and super nice. Definitely going here for my project wood in the future.

Ive been coming here for years, 3 hour drive round trip, there arent really many other options anyway. But Ive got to tell you, when you pay almost $100 for a piece of 1/4 plywood, you dont expect to unload it and find this.

Best prices for S4S milled lumber, but you need to take your time and be picky with the boards in-stock, keeping your project requirements in mind. Overall, friendly staff, good prices, and great selection.

Used to open on Saturdays. Closed on Saturdays now sucks cant buy from them very easily now and have to pay more at clarks since they are open

First let me state that both my husband and I are extremely healthy, we are rugged individualists, and prefer to research our own information, instead of being spoon-fed the Pablum of the Masses.During the Fade Out of the Covid:My husband and I visited Houston Hardwoods looking for some specialized Woods. We walked in and were greeted by random helpers around the shop, no one on the floor would deign to wear a mask! Which allowed us to drop our own. 👍We found exactly the wood with the precise grain-particular chatoyance we were looking for.The guys left us alone, but were readily at hand for any questions. All of support staff were able to answer any random questions that we had.We were able to find some of the most gorgeously figured birds-eye maple for under $20, and two massive rough-cut boards of African mahogany for under a hundred!Whenever we need wood, we always go to Houston Hardwoods!

I have purchased from Houston Hardwoods twice now and I am just as satisfied with them as I was the first time. I needed quite a bit of a lesser used wood. I bought about 100 board foot of 16/4 basswood. Dont let my usage of board feet etc throw you off, they are helpful to beginners or the advanced. They have lots of choices for all sorts of different projects. Small or large.The wood I needed was in the back storage area at the very bottom of the pile. Was that an issue? NO problem. I waited while they used the forklift to get my stuff. No grumpy faces or attitudes. That makes a real difference.Also, if you need your wood milled, their prices are VERY reasonable especially compared to the hardwood store in the Heights. No ridiculously high setup fees.They also have mantles in different species wood of that is what you are looking for.I was helped by Junior for my latest purchase and he took good care of me.I will continue to buy from these guys! They even asked for a photo of my finished project. They have made me a happy customer.

Great experience everytime I go. Their systems are out of date, but for the quality of service it is what it is. Price sheets are easy to obtain upon entry, and easy to understand. My only issue is I seam to always forget a tap measure when I go!

Friendly helpful staff. Priced 24 of oak at the orange home center, bought it at Houston Hardwoods for less than half the price. Better quality, better people, better price, shopping trifecta.

Didnt have a clue of how the process worked the first time I went but know theres nothing to it.Everyone is extremely knowledgeable and willing to help. Prices are better than anywhere else. Biggest selection in Houston. They do not mind if you browse through lumber to hand pick boards which is nice . They have every exotic you can think of.

The reason Im giving this place one star is not because of normal reasons. The employees are the best there. They are prompt, polite, and more willing to help you in any way. I was there December 23rd and I witnessed the President of the company out on the floor in front of the customers being rude as hell to one of the employees. This guy was telling this guy in front of god and everyone that he would fire him and that he was on his last chance. This would not of bothered me if this was taking place in an office and i overheard it . BUT this was on the floor this guy was being a bully. I will not be shopping at this place again very unprofessional.

Also carries cedar mantles, softwoods, large plywood selection and can cut boards or plywood sheets to size if you dont come with a truck, trailer or van. Cut-off pieces are sold at a discount for hobbyist woodworkers. Friendly, honest, fast and helpful staff. Wish we had something like this up around Magnolia/Montgomery area, but its definitely worth the drive down to Houston Hardwoods for their selection of quality wood, excellent prices and good service.

Houston Hardwoods is a friendly place, run by the same guys who started it 20+ years ago. They are known for having the most comprehensive database of custom moldings in the greater Houston Area and beyond. They are a valuable source for woodworkers, carpenters and they are still growing. Everyone I have ever met in the trade has good things to say, and usually their face lights up when you mention Houston Hardwoods. I am glad to have found them.

Houston Hardwoods may not be the cheapest place to buy lumber but they have everything in one stop. Good customer service and knowledgeable staff.

I had been waiting for a chance to buy some birch for my dining table, but the weather just wouldnt cooperate. When we finally got a sunny day, I called Houston Hardwoods, and they were able to mill my lumber quickly. Cory went above and beyond to make this happen, and I am so thankful! At first, I was a little disappointed that I couldnt get extra-wide boards on such short notice, but it all worked out in the end! And the birch was BEAUTIFUL. perfectly cut and smooth.

Great place for special lumber. I turn bowls and make small boxes from exotic hardwoods. This place has a great selection to choose from and their prices are reasonable compared to other places in Houston or on the net. Make one visit and youll be sold on them too.

Be sure to call them and confirm what they have in stock, as their website appears to be inaccurate. I think the webpage containing the list of woods they carry is more of a list of woods that they have heard exist on planet earth. After naming three pretty common woods and being told they don’t carry any of them, I just laughed and hung up. Glad I didn’t make the drive!

I can hardly wait to go back! This is what a lumber yard is supposed to be. If you are going to the big home improvement centers in hopes of finding that really perfect piece of wood for your project then you have gone to the wrong place.I only visited this one time and I could have spent another hour just walking around dreaming of what I could make.I also love that they do not seem to trash anything. Smaller cutoff pieces are for sale as well and neatly organized and labeled.This is a woodworkers paradise!

Disbonded 3/4 walnut plywood...Bought about $700 worth of wood on 1/30/20. This was walnut trim and sheets of plywood. This was for two bathroom vanities for my bathroom remodel. I was pleased with the pleasant service personnel.Returned on Feb 25th to exchange a sheet of 3/4 African mahogany for a 3/4 sheet of walnut plywood. No problem with the exchange but was a little concerned with the quality of the walnut ply - I believe this was an imported product. Had picked one sheet out and got it on the car to discover about a 1 peel off of the veneer on one corner - went back to the bin and picked another sheet.Brought it home sandwiched between two sheets of 1/4 ply to protect it. Weather was sunny and dry.Cut it up into four pieces the same day in order to store it inside my garage against the back wall. Took a couple of weeks to get to using the first piece and had it on my bench with the morning sun shining across it and saw that the veneer was bubbled - bubbles were raised at least 1/16 and some were several inches long. Checked the other three pieces and only one did not have the delaminated veneer. Note that the bubbles are not obvious in direct light on a low humidity day. They were very obvious on a humid morning with the low angle morning sun shining across the top of the ply.I did not get this sheet of ply anywhere near water and my guess is the bonding process / glue was defective.Immediately called Houston Hardwoods and they insisted that they had never seen a bubbled sheet of ply and that I must have gotten it wet - they would not give me a refund or exchange.So if you purchased a sheet of 3/4 walnut ply at Houston Hardwoods around 2/15/20 and experienced disbonded veneer you are not alone. Good luck on trying to get them to make good on your purchase.Bought a replacement sheet at Clarks Hardwoods. This sheet cost a little more and was a domestic product. No problems with it. Will do my future projects with wood from Clarks.Update 4/8/2020 : have tried to add a picture (~ .5MB) twice and it has not posted. Basically I photoed the veneer (magnified) and calculated the approximate thickness of the import veneer and the domestic veneer. The import was about 1/200th of an inch and the domestic was approximately 1/40th of an inch - about 5X the thickness of the import. So be VERY careful when you sand the import and just careful when you sand the domestic.

Overall pleased ... but you have to watch the lumber you get. The first time we went everything was immaculate and nearly perfect. The next two times we have had issues with the wood (beat up, not jointed, etc.). in both cases, they fixed the problem but it is a little annoying to have to make trips back there. Im still a customer but am much more cautious now.

Spent over $300 for white oak boards that were full of blemishes and knot holes. Not even milled to the agreed length. Their answer to my issue was make me another board and that would require driving two hours each way to get it.

Came in for a cutoff, wasnt sure what to expect. Ended up looking through their huge variety and selection of all types of wood! No hassle, organized shelves, really impressed and will be back again!

What an incredible experience with this company! I desperately, urgently needed 3 quarts of a gel stain that I could NOT find ANYWHERE in the entire city in this quantity and when I called and had it I was thrilled but also disheartened because I got off work in the woodlands at 5 pm and they closed at 5. Guy, who answered the phone, told me he would hide the cans behind their store and then he text me a picture of exactly where he had hidden them and told me I could call his cell phone after hours if I had any questions about their exact location. I rarely experience customer service like this and had to share.
