Last of the good, old hobby shops. Good selection, friendly staff. The good old days.
Im relatively new to building scale models and its a very nice place to be near. The selection of kits is quite nice, and I was pleasantly surprised to see they carried some of the kits I was eyeing up. Only complaint is that they dont carry the Humbrol Acrylics, but that doesnt really bother me.
Great shop, amazing selection of balsa and train bits and pieces, a pretty good selection of all sorts and scales of kits, supplies, train and diorama materials, as well as some hard to find old kits on consignment. Also several display cases with examples completed kits.Super friendly and knowledgeable staff round off the experience!
Best model shop in town. Planes, trains, &automobiles
Really cool place to go if you enjoy anything with models or trains. They have a good variety of model aircraft and military vehicles /aircraft as well. Many items if you have dioramas for your setups.
Long running hobby store that has good variety and some great deals. Also one of the best sources for scratch building supplies in the city
If your looking for train models this place is probably the best.!!!! Other than that, nope. I got some level 2 rockets here and the prices are literally double of hobby lobby. Amazon is even cheaper. Definitely won’t be makin that mistake again.! Pictures are of G&G vs hobby lobby. All the engine prices are the same no matter what. This rocket engine set was actually previously open then stapled back, didn’t catch that at the time of purchase, Not even sure if they will work. I drove a good ways here too, not doing that again.! If they reconsidered prices on a majority of their items, gg might have more business and not be shut down within a few years.EDIT: turns out that package of rocket engines was restapled because someone stole the ignitiors...
Love this place I went with my family to buy trains and love how there helping people 100 times recommending this place for USA car, trains and more and love this place
Good inventory on kits and supplies. Always support your local hobby shops/merchants.
This place is great. Very helpful staff and a large selection. Ill be back.
Nice little hobby shop. They tend to focus on plastic models and trains. I needed some Tamiya spray paints which they have a good stock of.
I went in there two weeks ago. And I was just amazed. The place is beautiful and some of the stuff that is in there is just top shelf quality. I would recommend this shop. And I will keep going back there. Thank you for having a very nice place for my hobby need.
Not too friendly. Very static inventory. The only change in decades is the location.
Very cool place.
Complete supplies, clean environment, and friendly staff. Great place. 👍
Nice shop for models, model railroad supplies, RC cars and planes. I got some good deals on scenery, and also wood sheets for scratch building model Railroad structures.
Great selection, friendly help and could spend all day looking at the varied displays
Diane is amazing and So is her team. I came in with a really unique need for a scale model never once did she say - no. Yes it’s gonna be a challenge but that’s part of the fun and I know it will be a great result. I appreciate the great work ethic and customer service - can’t believe they’ve been in business 75 years. Customer service is truly a dying art and they’ve got it here. Thank you!
Amazing staff and respectable prices
Love this mom & pop store!
Looking for repairs on my 1953 Lionel locomotive. Very helpful folks here.
Models, trains and accessories. The prices are okay I cant complain. The owners are friendly. Lots of older models but well worth sorting through everything. Other than models there are mostly HO scale trains and accessories and a little bit of n scale available no regrets in visiting
I took in my late fathers childhood Marx train engine and transformer to see if it was worth fixing. Im novice to this area. Even though it took 2 weeks to find out about these items, I laid out the tracks May 27, 2020 and this 75 year old train was operating and pulling its 6 cars. Thanks, G & G
Wide selection of trains, cars, military models. Also all the supplies you need for architectural models and scrath building
Helped me get into modeling. Ive been here one time (thus far) and I plan on returning. The staff is very kind, very insightful, and helped me so I didnt get myself into a large model project that I wouldve never finished. Theyre a local shop, and you should really visit.
They carry various different scales of model. Older kits, newer kits, lots of planes. Overall, selection is pretty good for such a small model shop. Manager is very knowledgeable and helpful. Getting into the parking lot can be difficult, and there is very little parking; I can almost never get a parking spot, and that is the only reason they dont get 5 stars.
I really enjoyed this hobby shop, it was a bit of a drive for me, but so worth it. Has a bit of everything for every one. Good prices. I will be going back for more train stuff, very happy with what I bought. Check this hobby store out, its really cool.!!
I just got a 3D printer and wanted to try to paint one of my prints. I know nothing of model making, but the store clerk was very helpful! Ill definitely be back in the future. They seemed to have a good supply of tools, paints, and odds and ends for building small things. A good store to look at for makers!
As always a great source for all levels of hobbyist.
Decent place, but a serious dinosaur in the market. I went in to purchase a rocket kit, and the person sold me a kit plus 3 items that were already in the kit! Id thought hed have a better understanding of what comes with the unit. Amazon is killing this type of stores off because of this reason. You only walk in for the expertise.
Nice shop, not a lot of inventory.
Great selection of paints! Staff is friendly and helpful.
One of the oldest operating model shops in the Houston area. Mainly specializing in model trains. If they dont have it, they will get it.
The location is small, but they have an amazing selection of model kits and supplies. Great people working there too. Probably the best plastic model location in Houston now.
Great selection and prices. Very helpful staff. We need more places like this!
My dad first brought me here about 33 years ago. I remember seeing a Vietnam tank diorama and I have been hooked on building models ever since. Because they are a great train store they have everything you need to build a jungle, city, or any other diorama you like. They have all the ground work and supplies you could ever need. And if you like to scratch build scenes they have a large selection of architecture stuff. They may be small but they packing a ton of really cool stuff. They do a great job covering all tastes, cars, planes, army, helos, and of course trains.
Extremely well-stocked model shop. It is definitely the go-to place for me in Houston for my modeling needs. Raw materials, paints, glues, specialty products, you name it.The staff is very friendly and extremely knowledgeable when it comes to their products and paints.
Very neat little shop. Lots of items in stock. While they did not have what we were looking for specifically, they helped us look around and let us know they can order one with their next order for us. Very helpful and knowledgeable.
Little hole in the wall, i liked it.
I love it im coming back there a 1:72 hetzer for 10 dollers and the kit was not the best but not the worst the store is well organized and the price are very good
Really great stock of 1:400 scale model airplanes but i wish they invested more in gemini jets. Overall great place!
Good people! They helped resurrect an old train and firetruck to life I had when I was a kid. These items were over 30+ years old and I NEVER thought theyd run again. Thanks for your help!
Great selection.. friendly and knowledgeable staff.. overall had a great experience!!
Ive been coming to this place since I was a kid back in the early to mid sixties. Theyve always had a great selection of models. Now that Im into trains, theyve got you more than covered there too! Its really neat to go in there and see the same models on display that were there when I was a kid! If your looking for a place that has your hobby needs covered, this is it!
Went in and had a ton of questions. Every question was answered and they even had great suggestions. Bought a locomotive from them got home and it was missing pieces. Called them back up and shipped them out right away. I will go back here and spend my money here. Thanks for all your help and I look forward to visiting again soon.
Great place for supplies and tips. Keith knows his stuff. They are a great store for your paints. They have ordered multiple Vallejo paints for me, I live by so I drive by and pick them up.
Not that this place needs more good reviews. It really is excellent especially for newbies to the model hobby. I went in for my first attempting to paint a model x wing. They were super helpful and talked to me for a good 20 minutes about airbrushing and paint options. They shared their stories. It was evident they had a ton of experience. Highly recommend.
They may be small but boy do they pack a lot in there. I dont do model kits any more but just walking in there makes me wish I did. They have Excellent coverage of ships, fighters, bombers, tanks, and I thought unusually good coverage of British aircraft from WWII. The staff seem knowledgeable about model building generally and they sell plenty of supplies to get your kit painted properly. They even have balsa components on the back wall. Get your kids into modeling and take them to this store! Let loose. Look around. Find one for yourself! I honestly believe that if you cant find something that interests you to make in this store, then you just arent interested in making models.
Very cool, clean & organized
Little shop but with lots of kits and accessories. The guys at the counter are helpful. A little out of my way but I like to support local businesses.
This shop is typical frequent visit to the model phanatics like me. They have a very nice presentation for quite rare cars, trains and battleships making their shop more of a museum style. However, it seems that their goods turnover rate is not fast. Goods may look a bit old on shelves. Overall, I liked the place although I couldnt find my needs.
I have been going to G&G for decades, and it was always a pleasure to do business with Gus, who is retired but still working at the store. Keith and Diane manage the store, and they are very courteous and helpful. I have been a model railroader for over 50 years. As a result, I have most of the locomotives and rolling stock I need, but to maintain and improve them, I need supplies such as paint and parts from Detail Associates, Details West, Precision Scale, Kadee, etc. Fortunately, Keith is always willing order these items, and I also rely on G&G for scratch-building materials for structures such as wooden trestles. So I give G&G five stars for excellent service.
Great little mom and pop type hobby shop that seem to be a dying breed. Great customer service, and very decent item selections. Keep up the good work!
One of the last mom & pop hobby shops around. Owner was very friendly and knowledgeable. If they dont have what you need, they can probably get it for you in a couple of days! Every time I come to Houston I stop by..
Large selection of plastic models and hard to find items. Nice to find a good model shop in Houston, they are getting harder and harder to find.
G&G isnt a place that asks much, just that you stop by and check the N scale trains in the display case, or the armor models in the back of the shop, or the model planes hanging from the ceiling, dont forget the diorama in the front of the Vietnam war or the amazing Grumman Intruder diorama in the front of the store. Through it all, G&G has always been there for Houston, helping fathers pick out kits that they can build with their kids, or mothers who come in with a worried expression and a request for some sort of train set to put up under the Christmas tree, or simply people who come in looking to buy a gift for someone who likes the hobby, but just arent sure what to get them. The people run this place are good people, and the products they sell are quality. I would know: Ive been coming here since I was 10 years old, and I keep coming back.
Oldest hobby shop in Houston with gobs of cars, trains, military, and space stuff.
Its very organized and the lady and gentlemen very helpful and kind definitely friendly environment good selection .
You had exactly what I wanted. Communicated with me when you received the order and again when it was shipped. The order was packed quite well and the price was good.
The Atmosphere felt kinda depressing but overall the stock seemed pretty good.
Great store. Very nice and helpful for what you are looking for.
There had what I needed. While I was there bought a model rocket for grandsons birthday. That made me a hero. Cant wait to see that thing fly.
They have a lot of great model Kits and trains
The experience was terrific they had most items in stock and and helped me find everything I needed, I recommend this shop for buying model military tanks, trains, planes, and scenic supplies. Trust me you will not be disappointed!
I get all my modeling supplies here, great place with super nice staff. If they dont have what you need theyll order it no problem. They have the best selection in town Ive been able to find of vallejo and tamiya paints and supplies.
Best model shop in Houston, wide variety of trains, military, and even Gundam models. They keep the best stock of Tamiya paints in town too.
Keith is an awesome owner. Thanks for my intermoutain train metal wheels. I need to stop by and pick up my second box.
Ha Gary its Jacob I wanted to right a review. Your hobby shop is the best one Ive ben in in Texas thanks for all the support you have some great costumer service and thanks for all the support I appreciate it man. Thanks and bye!!😄👌🏻😃
I went to G&G last year looking for a model train set to start off as a potential hobby. I didnt know much about model trains sets except for the information I was able to look up on the web. When I went inside, I talked to one of the workers/owners and told them what I was looking for. He explained to me about the different scales, railing, and the type of connectors the train engines and boxes have that you have to watch out for when merging older and new sets. He was very helpful, the entire staff was friendly, kind, and knowledgeable. It was a bit difficult trying to figure out exactly where they were via walking & bus, but once I found them, I had an enjoyable experience. Im returning to them in the future to expand my collection/sets.
Of the Hobby Stores in the Houston area this one is my favorite. The best selection of modeling subjects and supplies by far. The selection of wood and plastic for scratchbuilding for model railroads, or model dioramas is exceptional.
Whenever I need my modeling materials. I am coming here to not only support a family run business but to time travel. I’ve been coming here since I was in college.
This place seems to have a little of everything and so it ends up looking a little like a yard sale inside. But boy is it fun you can easily spend a hour just exploring.
I have been going to this shop since I was a kid in 1989. Every time I step through the door it is like a trip back in time. A helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable staff makes every visit a wonderful experience.
Great selection of paints, especially by Vallejo and Tamiya, and great prices too. They had almost everything I was looking for, and the staff is very helpful and friendly.
I collect HO scale train equipment. This is a great place to visit and pick up your favorite hobby items.
Great for Architecture! They have I beams, wide flange, and trusses.
Ive shopped here for years as its the only hobby shop in town that carries all the scratch building supplies I needThe helpful owners and staff are always eager to assist and are a true first class customer serviceAlways a pleasure to visit and when i cant their online assistance is just as effectiveHighly recommended ~!Terry Humerickhouse
Still the only place to find modelling supplies for scratchbuilding! Have recently moved to a new location, but still the same wonderful store.
Very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Amazing selection of different size train models.
This is the best hobby shop in the United States, I will always come here first for the things I need before going somewhere else. FYI this shop DOES NOT DO ANY R/C
Looked alright from the parking lot. Lol. I was lurking on another place near by actually. Wait no I wasnt. I was never there. I dont know what you talking bout
Great place for hard to find plastic models. Lots of accessories too.
Guy working the front counter treated me like an alien and acted a bit snooty. They the shop does have a good inventory and plenty of hardware for your projects.
Wow. Worth the trip to get here. Very friendly. Helped me with my fathers day gift
These guys are absolute jerks now. They were a great shop before the newer owners took over several years ago. Shopped there since I was a kid but will never go back. They have ruined this place.
Very nice store. They mainly carry static models and a lot of trains and when I asked for RC planes they gladly pointed me in the right direction.
A very good classic model shop.
Neat little shop with a bunch of older matchbox sets and a ton of display models. Parking sucks.
Nice little shop with friendly staff.
Walked in on a Saturday and first thing out of mouth was they were closing in 10 minutes. Model trains are an expensive hobby and I like to support local shops when I travel. Guess they do well enough not to care.
They have great service and good stock much better than papa bens train place
Really great model shop. The displays that they have are one of a kind.
This is the perfect store to get a ERTL Peter Sam, Wooden Railway Donald and Douglas, and Boco.
Great brick & mortar shop. Discovered on visit to my sister in Houston, Walked in to friendly faces, answered questions and excellent customer service.. Great scratch building supplies.Once home in Gerogia, needed more Humbrol colors, Internet order experience was A++++. Promptly mailed, packaged well, & copy of invoice enclosed. They will be one hobby shop I will order off internet repeatedly.
They have a large variety of models and supplies. Also the owner its very friendly and ready to help. I like it a lot.
