Third visit….every time I come here no one greets me but they greet the guys that come in, no one asks if I need help finding anything, when I ask them for help they are too into their phones to hear me through my mask so time I ended up walking back outside and buying what I wanted online. A bunch of pretentious gate keepers.
OMG! What an awesome place and the staff is the bomb!Masks required. I was not wearing one and I was offered one.Such a great selection. A game in Montrose.
Great selection of records, Ive shopped there for many years, helpful staff, they follow all Covid protocals feel safe as you shop.
This place is great! Such a huge selection of new records. Ive bought more than 10 over time and every one of them played great. There are local bands and some more obscure picks as well as new top hits. This place has everything you want. Every time I go I find music I didnt even know I could get on a record. Cant wait to go back.
Love Cactus Music! Great selection... every visit here I find vinyl I have to have and at a price that cannot be beat. The employee have always been friendly but allow you to look until you ask for assistance. Very enjoyable experience each visit.
Been buying from this place online for some time now. It was great to stop by H Town and visit for the store in-person! The store has a welcoming feel and all the employees are super helpful to aid on anything you’re looking for! Glad I got time to stop on by! If you’re around town give them a go!
There is a great selection of music and swag here - the only reason for a 3 star review, which I think is rather generous for this place. Its good to see they have a decent metal section now.BUT!As far as customer service, you guys need to at least be consistent. If youre going to be rude, sniveling, and unfriendly to shoppers, please do so equally, and dont select customers who dont fit whatever demographic or type you guys are looking to attract. Ive spent a lot of cash at your store, and my money is just as good as any trendy hipster that walks in looking for indie stuff. Next time, Im going back to Vinal Edge, where they are at least consistent with how they treat customers and have a better selection of what I want anyway.
Besides the fact that they are way cross town. I spent way too much time there. There are so many different styles of music it took me 3 hours to browse through it. But it paid off. I hot exactly what I was looking for. I called ahead for one cd and spent the rest of the time looking for a second one. Yay! They had one. If I didnt have to get home I would probably still be there. LOL! At least I can say I can maneuver through freeway traffic. A little scary but I did it. I was on and off in about 15 minutes. Thanks Cactus music. Loved it.
This is the quintessential music place in Houston! It’s your stop for vinyl, record players, cds, shirts by your favorite band, enamel pins, quirky funny gifts for those you care about. The staff is the best in all of Houston, very knowledgeable and friendly! They offer live music performances on weekends and have St Arnold beer for you to enjoy the sounds whilst you shop. Best. Record. Store. Ever. Should be labeled as a landmark in Houston! I’ve been coming here for years and will continue to go for years to come. And I have introduced this place to my younger family members and multiple friends to keep this place alive and popping!
Knowledgeable staff. Great selection of LPs, 7 45s and various collectibles.
Traveling from out of town and I thought Id check out some of Houstons vinyl stores.Cactus Music goes beyond vinyl (they also have CDs and tapes) - so it lacks what I consider to be a classic vinyl store ambiance. Despite this, they have a decent selection of new and pre-loved vinyl - though its not as extensive as a different local store I visited.Prices were a little higher than Im used to back home - but it could just be because I picked up a couple of albums Ive had a hard time finding. (**Note: I DID find several albums I havent been able to find back home - so their selection IS good.)Organization isnt as intuitive as other stores Ive been to - but I figured it out.In short - Id come here if the other Houston store I visited didnt have what I wanted.
A cool music shop that we stumbled on. It had a great vibe with someone playing records and changing the music often. Going back for sure.
Every visit is pure pleasure, things can be difficult to find but only because there is so much great music there!!! Absolutely LOVE this place!!! Went yesterday because Google said they were open till 9. Got there just a bit after 7 to find out they had closed at 7....
Good vibes lots of things Ive never heard of. The music playing on the speakers was one I knew played on a turn table.
Great selection and great customer service.
Everything you want out of a record store. New vinyl, mystery bins of used vinyl, Greatfull Dead T-shirts and stickers.
Christmas shopping for a special teenager. She received a record player several years ago. I go to Cactus Music because of their large selection of records, great prices and bonus is introducing my granddaughter to a variety of music. Need help or questions, the staff is always available to answer and give suggestions on artists. Love the atmosphere there as well. Great customer service.
This was a neat place and wish I could have browsed a little more. I miss all the record stores that have shut down over the years. I just wished that the had everything by genre, it was everything together but alphabetically.
Great place and loved the atmosphere! A diverse collection from many genres
I really love this place, have a great new vinyl section and employees are really nice.
Cactus Music is a great record shop managed by great people. They are welcoming and treat every customer with kindness and respect.
I love shopping here. The selection rotates regularly, there are live music events, and the music playing is always pointed out (which has influenced my purchases once or twice).
A really cool store, especially for record lovers. Theres a station inside for sanitizing your hands as you come in and out, plastic dividers at checkout and masks required in the store. I spent a good hour and a half trawling through the stacks and found some gems, both new and used. They even gave me some coupons on the way out. Cant wait to come back!
Great collection and staff. Nearly the only remaining music store in Houston with the passing of Fred Allred.
Cool place, nice vibe. Excellent selection, they make everyone put on hand sanitizer so thats def a plus.
This store feels like a time capsule! There are multiple autographed posters and other memorabilia such as Bootsy Collins gold record! There is something about physically touching music that is comfortably reassuring in our virtual age. There are many nostalgic and novelty gifts from Fraggle Rock enamel pins to profanity-laced socks to an inflatable mounted moose head. The young lady (unfortunately I have forgotten her name but not her neat blue hair?) behind the counter was genuinely welcoming and knowledgeable. I plan to visit again to get that Linkin Park button and perhaps a pair of cursing- cat socks!
The whole team there at Cactus has remained markedly cool and controlled during the pandemic. Its the power of music. I know that they are itching to reopen 100%. Hopefully it is only a few more months.
Very cool atmosphere with a bunch of music selection. Love the mac demarco cut out
Great selection and atmosphere. Always fun to visit.
The staff was very helpful.
Excellent store for CDs, vinyl records and all sorts of really cool stuff. Rock, blues, jazz & rap, hip-hop. Great selection.
Love this place, the vibe and the record collection! Always find something unique when I am here. I especially love days when the live music is goin on while I shop!
A chill little local record store. They have a real nice variety of cds, vinyls, and even collectibles!! I do reccomend more of a selection for ska music though, personal tidbit!!! I always make sure to stop by here when Im in the Houston area. Good vibes here.
Went for mine and daughters birthday for some records. I have been coming here for years. Turned away because i didnt have a mask. Will go to another record shop from now on.
Reminds me of the old Dearborn Music (Michigan) layout. I would like to see a bigger tape collection but CDs, vinyl and misc memorabilia are on point
Their record collection is awesome of used records in good shape and the prices are on point. The employees are friendly. Im there almost every Saturday now and find something every time. My main interest is 60s music like Cream, Yardbirds, Byrds, C, S, N, Y and they always have them, Just wish they had more Faces but I guess it just depends on what people bring in.
Cactus music has always been my go-to place for music! They are extremely helpful, and respond to inquiries and requests in a timely manner. They are efficient, know how to protect the record when mailing, and have the lowest shipping rates around! Ive lived in other states and been to other record stores, and this one remains my favorite record store for over 30 years now.
This place great I enjoyed the music and vinyl records but one thing I didnt like was the Penguin staring at me. He had the nerves to stare as we look through the Records and so I stared back at him and we had staring contest and of course I lost but man.. that penguin was sure Cute though. But still had the nerves to stare as I look back at him knowing we will one day meet again for round 2
Great merchandise,New or used. Great time!
Helpful staff, well organized, large selection 👌🏼
A great record store that has been in operation for decades that has it all, new and previously loved vinyl, CDs and movies lots of cool T shirts, novelty and collectable items even stereo equipment. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly...highly recommend this place.
A Houston Institution. Wonderfully friendly and helpful neighborhood music store. The kind of place you think of when you think of a movie version of a welcoming music store with some really great off-beat stock.
Good selection, we left with 4 records and only one was warped. They have a ton of selections. The back room with vinyl records gets kinda hot, so have what you want on mind and get in-get out.
They have a huge assortment of records available, will definitely be coming back
Well this shop was very all over the place I couldnt find what I was looking for since the genres werent labeled correctly. I found its just sorted by sealed/new country and metal.. Not really your top 3 genres if you ask me...and you gotta file through many albums to really even get a feel of whats in there. Seemed like alot of work honestly. I asked the front store employee for help.. He just kinda said its back there you gotta look. I went to look some more and asked the back store employee for help and mentioned their system was kind of throwing me off.. He got up and said well it should be here(looking for The Used album) I mentioned another artist and then pointed out how I couldnt still seem to understand how I was to find certain things in the store, he got snarky and scoffed and became argumentative when I simply pointed out an artist in the mix of Rs that I didnt really get. I mean an explanation without attitude would have been fine but he didnt really seem to get a customers frustration.. It totally turned me off to what could have been a return to location based on proximity to my house....needless to say as a first time customer I will not be returning. Smh.
Always come here for the vintage vinyls! Best music store in Houston
Beautiful looking place. Even with a stage for a once in a while shows. But due to the covid situation, so far nothing.Fair prices on items like books, shirts, cds, vinyl, DVDs, action figures, etc, etc.Friendly staff who are always having fun & always smiling.Im always satisfied with my purchases.
Some heavy dude will greet you but only to inform you to sanitize your hands. No hospitality whatsoever, this is my fourth purchase here and the last tbh
They definitely have a good variety of records, cds, and shirts. However, the organization of records is somewhat confusing.
Cool place.
I was excited to visit cactus music today Ive heard great things about the store but sadly I was told I had to sanitize my hands before I could enter the store a store has the right to enforce whatever rules they want inside their establishment but this seems over the top and I will not return until this foolish requirement is removed
Good, clean place. Have pre-ordered some vinyls from here before and they have excellent customer service. Crew is friendly and responsive. Have had a good response to the covid 19 pandemic
Need music? This place is awesome! Not hard to find what you need music wise here.
Great customer service. Love their prices amd trade-in deals.
Great selection of music of all taste and %100 fun to visit everyone, you never know what you can find
Couldnt find the Empire Soundtracks for any season. At least I found James Horner on Braveheart.
Great place to shop for vinyl.
Good local record store near River Oaks/Kirby with a wide selection of genres. They have both new and used vinyl, plus CDs, t-shirts, etc. I have found some good, hard-to-find records here. Definitely a place worth checking out. Also, kudos to the staff for providing hand sanitizer and requiring masks. As a healthcare worker, I greatly appreciate that.
My dad has been taking me to Cactus Music, since I was in elementary school. And now he takes my little one. It is tradition
The best place to find the best music
This is hands down the best record store in Houston. Went for the first time yesterday 7-3-20 with my daughter. The selection is amazing from dollar records to 35% off new bins to the racks upon racks of new and pre owned vinyl. The organization is great at this store making it simple to find what you need. I honestly had to leave after finding a few items or Id spend hours looking and buying.
Great selection of colored/limited edition vinyls and box sets.
So much music I dont even know where to start and other things besides music like books and novelty things
Fun place!
Nice place and very helpful
A great variety of music and a super friendly ad helpful staff!
First place I ever went to when I moved here from Connecticut where tgere are very few real indie record stores.Cactus reminds me of a place in Brooklyn called Titus Oaks. Bins and bins of used vinyl for 99 cents plus new releases etc.I like how they will hold a new release for you. I can spend hours going through their stock. For vinyl in Houston to me its the only place to go.
Love it! Forgot about this Houston jewel!
The selection is great. The staff tries their best to not help you.
Good stuff
Over rated over priced
Keep music alive and visit a real record store.
I always love coming here. I’m not sure if anyone will understand this. There is a specific smell that comes with vinyl records. Like how library’s smell or coffee shops. This place is the real deal. Their prices are fair and the selection is wonderful.
Great local record store with a super friendly knowledgeable staff!
Super fun place to shop at, found all my favorite stuff
Nice selection of music.
Great shop!
I went for used and all the selections I found seemed several dollars more then what Ive seen at other stores.
Great place to find the vinyl you need! Hard to find stuff is easy to find here.
They have so many vinyls from different artist and genres, I was already overwhelmed by the amount of records they had on the outer room, until I discovered a whole other room with records only. I was shook: Will definitely be back!
Nice place!
Great selection, prime spot. But I wish the staff was a bit more engaging. I went in there once when it was slow and it felt like a ghost town
Throw back heaven!!!! Vinyl albums...nuf said!!!
Great selection. Dont skip the markdown bins, a lot of gems there. Staff is knowledgable about pretty much everything, Star Pizza across the street, what more do you need?
Good people. Great store.
Oldie but goodie
The Best Record Store/Music Store/Discovery of Cool Things Store you will ever step in. Staff has always been cool and helpful when looking for stuff. They are a big supporter of the indie music scene and have many free in-store shows. Also, they give away many concert tickets if you follow them on Instagram and Facebook!
Great place to get vinyl. The staff is super helpful and the vinyl selection is vast. They also have bands perform on the small stage in the store fairly regularly so keep an eye out for events like that
Great selection
One of my favorite local spots to crate dig for nearly 30 years. Its mostly for used albums to fill in the holes in my collection. Staff is usually pretty helpful/friendly and parking is super easy. They carry a nice assortment of toys and other interesting goods. Always very highly recommended!!
