Good food and a great cup of coffee - both hot and iced lattes are great! Definitely on the crowded side, and a bit confusing for a first time visitor, but overall an interesting atmosphere. I stayed a while to enjoy a book, and while it is a bit on the louder side with roasting and music both going on, its definitely a great atmosphere to be surrounded by other people working and studying.
Probably the best example of a DC (Hyattsville) coffee roaster we currently have. The quality of the beans is consistently good and Vigilante offers a nice variety, including some really high quality limited release stuff. The cafe itself is a great neighborhood spot in the historic downtown area, attracting lots of regular locals and occasional coffee pilgrim. When we went on a Sunday afternoon, a flock of cyclists were spread out all over the patio. The location is very spacious, in an old auto garage. The open concept allows you to see the roasting process, the baristas making drinks, the food prep station, and the eclectic customer seating areas. There is a lot to observe while enjoying your drink/food. Speaking of, the house espresso (Tin Lizzie) and Ethiopian pourover I had were excellent, very well extracted and flavorful, no unnatural bitterness or other anomalies. The product of a well-drilled team and quality-first approach to their coffees. I look forward to going back, highly recommended.
The best. Hands down. The only company I buy coffee from in the DMV. Used to get my beans from a shop up in Brooklyn, NY then I tried Vigilante. Started a subscription that day. They send two unique and freshly roasted bags a month and they’re always so different from the next. Could not recommend a DC area coffee shop more!
Been a customer since day 1 literally. 9 years later and this shop is still magic. If Josue is working, order a PB (peanut butter) Açaí Bowl (add Nutella if you want to make it even better) if you are eating in and be prepared for a work of delicious art. It’s way better if you get one in a bowl instead of “to go”. Today I forgot to order an espresso and asked if I could have one brought to the table and I would place the order online. The staff member said not to worry about it and brought one over within seconds on the house. It’s a special shop with special staff…oh and the coffee is bomb dot com🤘
Vigilante feels like California, which is home to me.Its an open warehouse like space with plenty of seating ranging in your standard tables and chairs to couches and lounging areas. Theres also picnic tables outside which is great for bringing your furry friend along! When getting coffee to go, you order at the counter. But if you are getting coffee to lounge or work, an employee will take your order from your table. They have fantastic specialty coffee options as well as your classics. Ive only had the iced latte here and its legit. Super strong and more espresso than milk. Win!The service is warm, welcoming and very good.Prices are reasonable.Environment is great, perfect for catching up with a friend, working or just reading a book. There is a little art gallery space next door which is also an added plus!Parking can be a pain since there isnt much parking in the area.
Wonderfully friendly staff and such a cool location tucked just behind the main drag. Lots of COVID safety precautions in place too. Staff was friendly ... Even allowed me to snap a pic of her tattoo for my kids who are huge Bowie fans. Ice latte was excellent ... Just wish I had snagged one of those savory croissants! I will certainly be back. Thank you!
Great spot for the community to gather and connect. Their human resources and kitchen equipment are top.
My husband and I moved to Hyattsville about a year and a half ago, and we kept hearing about how amazing Vigilante was. We finally tried it, and I get what all the buzz is about! We love the bagels (I get the Cherry Bagel + goat cheese) and their almond croissant is hands down the best almond croissant I have ever had. 🙌💜 Great coffee, great food, great atmosphere, and they did all they could to stay open and easily available for pickup throughout the pandemic. Its become our new weekend morning go-to!
Best roasted beans you can find. I don’t know much about their drinks but I’ve been regularly buying Tin Lizzy and other light and medium roasted beans. I’ve traveled to different parts of the world and the US and always looks for best local roasters. VIGILANTE is the best PERIOD. I love there is a transparency on how they select certain beans and and how often they roast at their Hyattsville store.
Pandemic rituals: Doomsday scroll on Instagram, feed sourdough starter, make coffee, repeat. In these trying times, I want to thank Vigilante Coffee for making my mornings a bit sweeter. At this current moment caffeine is a necessity, but when I have my mug of coffee (currently drinking their Ethiopian Suke Quoto + Colombia Fabiola Crème de la Crème) I feel wholly comforted. They truly have exceptional beans that make you want to stop whatever youre doing, inhale deeply and just enjoy the moment.I ordered my beans online and the shipping was very quick and fast. I love how Vigilante Coffee pays more than the living wage to coffee growers across the world. They donated coffee to protesters earlier this summer and are constantly walking the walk as a community oriented business.10 stars out of 5!
Heard very good things for a long time, and they delivered! Excellent coffee. I got a light roast Ethiopian pour over. It has the floral, acidic notes in a well done light roast. The cafe is very charming, and the staff were happy to nerd out on tasting notes. Recommended!
Ive drank coffee all over the world and country. Simple stated, Vigilante is the best Ive ever had. Even though I dont live close to a location I only source Vigilante for my home brew. Ive turned friends onto them from across the country that now only use their beans as well.Beyond the taste the sustainability of their model and investment in the communities their coffee originates from sets them far above all competition. Ive never been more loyal to a brand. As long as there is Vigilante Coffee it will be all I drink.
Stopped in for some late afternoon coffee and laptop time. This is a great space with friendly staff. I only got coffee but I was tempted by the fruit selection when I saw them cutting it fresh behind the counter.
I liked the vibe here but don’t like their recent change with tipping system. When they turn the square screen after paying for your order, tip choices used to be 10%, 15%, 20% something like that. Now, they make you to pay $1, $2, and so on.I think this is a little trick to squeeze out from customers who just want one or two cups of coffee. I know it is a really small amount of money, but considering this is not a full-service coffee shop where you make an order through a designated server, this subtle change seems a bit odd. I even didn’t get the expected service after paying 25%+ tips (the bakery menu was cold, and the coffee came out very late). If there were some cost-related issues, they should have raised the price rather than playing with tips.
Very nice coffee shop with your regular selection of drinks. The design is modern, but cozy and there are always people here. They have some good snacks at the front and its pleasant to sit outside when the weather is warmer.Like so many cafes, it is pricey if youd like to be coffee, but a nice place, nonetheless.
Best oat milk latte ever had in my life!I need to know what coffee beans they use for it because it was so smooth. This location is way better than the one in college park.
This is the nicest, most impressive, coffee shop in the area. Not only is the space amazing, the staff is fantastic and the coffee, most important, is really excellent. Also tried the seasonal acai bowl and it was just perfect. I dont live close and just happened to stop by on my way back from the community forklift. What can I say? Ill be looking for reasons to return and often!
Excellent coffee and great serviceWill definitely be back even thought it’s a bit of a hike! The bagels and chive cream cheese were delicious too!
Im usually not one to leave a review unless I am absolutely impressed... And I am absolutely impressed! The Coconut Creme Latte is dynamite. I wish I had found this gem sooner in our trip, as I probably would have come every morning. Try is, you wont be disappointed!
Good coffee. Should explore other offerings
Classic muesli was delicious! Coffee was flavorful and well balanced. Thank you.
Fantastic vibe. Delicious coffee. Eco conscious. Airy, sun-filled and friendly seating area. Unpretentious.
High Quality coffee and a business that is involved in the community. My kind of place! If youre lactose intolerant like myself, try the mocha with macadamia nut milk, AMAZING! Also if youre not a big coffee drinker they make some pretty good chai tea too.
Great coffee shop to do work in an atmosphere that is full if student life! Highly recommend 👍
The best restrittos and locally roasted. Amazing
Simply the best cup of coffee Ive ever drank delivered by attentive and kind staff in a low-key environment.
This place is one the best coffee in the area (if not the DMV). Pastries are great, the espresso never fails and its a great place to work during the week.
Great atmosphere, great coffees, friendly service and excellent croissants! Will definitely go back when Im in town again.
Specialty coffee shop with a great environment. Super friendly baristas and the coffee roaster is right there in the space. Loved the atmosphere, only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is I was looking for a top grade espresso but it was waaaaaay too acidic. Not sure if they didnt have time to dial in that morning but this was at 9am so it wouldnt have changed much from when they started the day. I know they have high quality coffee as Ive had their beans before and Im sure they can brew it better but the baristas definitely fell short this time. Would have asked for another but there was a line forming and didnt want to ask them to do another dial in just for me. Would still like to go back and try it again tho!
Amazing Experience - I hadnt been to the shop before signing up for one of the classes that are offered, I wasnt sure what to expect but it totally exceeded my expectations. They have a whole Lab in the back with all the equipment, Chris and Ashley were great - we learned a lot and had a ton of fun. Ill definitely be back for more classes here and I plan to recommend them to anyone who even remotely enjoys coffee.
Wish there was more outdoor space, but otherwise this is a perfect little coffee shop!
Great neighborhood coffee spot. Nice outdoor seating ambiance.
The cappuccio and croissant were quite good. I will be going back.
Great coffee, great vibe! Always busy, with a wait for drinks but worth it!
Everything is pretty good. The coffee is drinkable black, which is impressive. If its good enough to be had on its own, its pretty damned good. The pastries (almond croissant and cheddar biscuit) were good; not great, but good, though amazing for what is locally available. The servers are friendly, but its absolute chaos in terms of service. Thats why Im only giving them 4 stars.
Best coffe shop to go too, best part is the staff, so nice and friendly!
OMG this is a hidden gem I didn’t know existed. I’ve only been once but I plan on making this my go to spot! Try the cheddar biscuits then thank me later.
Great coffe and ambience ✨ love it! Perfect for telework.
Love the laid back vibe and the Acai Bowl is LIFE
One of the best atmospheres Ive been in. Lots of natural light, garage doors, big windows and ceiling windows. They also sell skate boards inside, a cool niche.I ordered an American and a season Acai bowl. It was around $12. Bowl was better than the coffee. But cool shop none the less, I would come back.
Acai bowl was so damn good 😋
One of the very best coffee houses in Maryland. Brilliant roasters, great baristas and a lovely menu. Be sure to check out the eggnog chai during the winter season. Worth driving for.
Awesome place, great coffee. Had the pleasure of being served by the pretty girl with the tatted up arms. She was super helpful in the choice of what light roast to get as a gift; explained the differences well.5/5 place. 1/5 to myself for not asking for her number.
One of my favorite coffee places. It’s a bit of a distance for me to get there, so I don’t go often, but I always enjoy it when I do. We just moved back to the area and this was one of the first places I went. Delicious coffee and other drinks and treats, but even better is the atmosphere and the friendly baristas who are patient and explain and suggest great things. They have events there too, like free coffee tastings. Good cafe foods and açaí bowls. They used to allow dogs when we lived here, and I neglected to ask if they still do :)
Took the Roasting 101 class here and Chris (owner) and Franklin (roast wizard master) went above and beyond. Knowledge, experience, and a great environment come together to make something that seems really intimidating accessible and fun. Will DEFINITEY be coming back for more classes. Also the coffee is amazing.
Excellent coffee & food, comfortable & fun space, awesome people -- this place has all the makings of your favorite neighborhood coffee shop!
Visited Vigilante two mornings in a row while in DC for business to pick up a cold brew and bagel for breakfast and lunch for later. Everything was tasty, but especially love the apple, pecan, goat cheese salad - both days it made for a great lunch on the go. Will definitely be back!
Used to stop in from time to time pre-pandemic...been on the bi-weekly delivery subscription for the past year and make French press every morning. Every coffee is unique and excellent. Best coffee around and there’s no close second as far as I’m concerned.
Superb. Folx were so friendly and the coffee is so good. Pastries were warm and so perfect. 12/10 will definitely go again.
Super tasty espresso and fantastic atmosphere!
Seriously good coffee. Everything on the menu is great. I take all my friends and visitors here.
Best coffee Ive had in years
Good coffee, good food, good people, bad parking
Oh my Goodness. I lived in Africa, Europe, america, and have been to Asia. This is the best coffee I have tasted in my life, and I am dead serious this is different, rich, smooth deep to say the least. Sitting outside on these benches gave me the opportunity to relax and meditate. please come to Virginia, and I wish if you guys will close later than 7pm. Thank you for the experience.
Stopped in a few weeks ago on my way to Raleigh. Stumbled upon a Friday afternoon cupping and had a great experience. Austin and Diane were very knowledgeable about the cupping experience and had a lot of information to share. Picked up 2 bags of Tin Lizzie and have been enjoying them since.Diane also hooked me up with a vigilante pin and postcard. Can’t wait to order some single origins online.Great coffee and incredible customer experience. Also, they have recommended brew methods on the coffee ID cards!! The little things that count
If you love good coffee, you must go to Vigilante Coffee. Superior brews and scrumptious baked goods (the scones are yummy!). There are other delectables on the menu, but I havent ventured beyond their amazing java. Something to look forward to in the future. Picnic tables and benches outside, and walkable parks & benches are not far away to sit a spell and enjoy. Relaxed & friendly.
Superb coffee, and staff make good recommendations. I come here to get the beans I use at home. Give it a try when youre in the area. Both the light and dark brews dont disappoint
Need to pay your staff properly if they feel compelled to ask for a tip for a cup of coffee!
Super friendly staff. Very well managed with social distancing. Just pre-order and head to the open window to pick up your delicious coffee, easy to grab on the go. Make sure to check the location before you order! 😉
I love their coffee. The location it’s fell like another world so cozy and inviting. Friendly staff. Awesome treats and taste coffee. Table and comfortable chairs. I had gone in there on Halloween and was so much fun they had magic show for the kids. Music outside and everyone was dress in costume.Fantastic!
This place is the best place for an coffee connoisseur! They really take pride in providing the best coffee possible. The inside is decorated beautifully with live plants. I highly recommend this place. But word of the wise, they are a coffee shop and they dont mess with triple strawberry lattes or any of thatnonsense, just pure delicious coffee!,
Easily the best third-wave coffee in the DC metro area. Delicious espresso drinks and beautiful aesthetic.
Came in for a late afternoon affogato, and was pleasantly surprised by the salted caramel ice cream with my double shot of espresso. Quick service delightful plant life outside covid safe and socially distance whats not to love
