We had a wonderful waitress. Her name is Lani. She is very sharp! Personable. Attentive. She has a beautiful smile. You can see she loves her job & wants to make every dining experience with her customers a great visit.. pays attention to details. 5 stars for her!
I moved to Idaho a couple of years back and the Black Bear is one of my most favorite adopted hangouts. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Cheyenne takes care of me - she is a special person. The menu has a wide variety of tastes, but they know my favorites already when I walk in the door. My whole family loves Black Bear, but it’s even more important to me as a personal refuge in this strange and wonderful Idaho landscape.
Service was slow & food was cold. The food might have been cold from the ambient room temperature which felt like 50 degrees. When we asked the server why it was so cold she said the manager told them they could not touch the thermostat. When we were there, there was only one other couple and it took forever for our server which was one of two servers to serve us. Never even came back check on the food until we were all done and ready to go out the door to the chip the ice off. So much opportunity for a great restaurant but they are failing miserably.
Good home cooked style of food. Good service. Not so busy we had to wait, but lots of people enjoying the food.
Great food, great price. Nice portions. They have been low on staff and the quality of staff could use improvement but it is not a deal breaker. Somedays the staff is amazing other it is alright-ish. cinnamon french toast is the best.
I came in not too long ago and had a wonderful waitress named Lani. She was very attentive with my table, had all of our drinks to us right away and our orders were all correct and came out hot. She went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed when she looked busy with other tables. The food was also so yummy. I will be coming back and be recommending the waitress who served us.
WONDERFUL food and friendly employees! ANY breakfast dishes that you order are fantastic and great chicken tenders, onion rings, and fried chicken! I always end up taking home half of what I eat at the restaurant. Generous portions and a good bang for your buck! Shane is a great addition to the Black Bear Diner family, too!
Not a good place to eat. If you like food that isn’t seasoned I guess eat here. It was a waste of money and time. I do not recommend this place.
Excellent food, as always. I had a meal delivered by Uber Eats and there was a mix-up on the order. (Really no ones fault directly) The Manager went above and beyond expectations and actually brought my missed items to me plus a desert. (I was way on the other side of town) They deserve ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent Service. 😃😃
These guys were slammed and understaffed. Three employees who were there made a galant effort. From the soup to the prime rib my food was warm at best.The only bright spot was out server who showed composure in a trying time.

Excellent meal and service. Great way to start a birthday or a Thursday in general! Asked for crispy hashbrowns and they delivered! Very good waitress you can tell she was experienced in good customer service. I had the California Bacon Eggs Benedict. Hubby had the 10 oz country fried steak and didnt even need a knife to cut it because it was so tender and juicy! 10/10 would recommend this location. Clean facilities!

Every time I go to California I look for a Black Bear Diner. I just recently realized we have a location here in Idaho Falls. Ive been a couple times in the last week and its just as good if not better than the California location. We love this Restaurant. Now if they just had All You Can Eat Waffles ;). JC.
We went there for a late lunch and they had immediate seating. Their staff was great & attentive.It took a little longer to receive our order, but it was so worth it! Ill take great food & service over a little wait time any day. Besides they had a note on the door stating to be beary patient with them. So the little wait was already expected.If you are in the mood for an epic burger, you should try the California Burger.

We went to Black Bear Diner last night and I had the fish and chips. It was really good! Husband had vegi burger, which was really nice as well. My granddaughter had mac and cheese she cleaned her plate. Very nice staff. Would absolutely eat here again!!

All the trappings of an old fashioned hometown dinner... Good food, friendly staff, warm atmosphere and clean. The food has the polish of individual attention to each ingredient. Its clear that every order is prepared with the skill needed to make every plate a conversation not just a meal.
Food was better than expected. Service was a little slow but she was friendly and it made up for it. I’d eat here again. I had the eggs Benedict with loaded hashbrowns and they were definitely memorable!Only complaint is that they are not as Covid safe as I would’ve liked. I would’ve felt much better if they had been seating every other table. As it was, our table was right next to someone else end it did not feel safe, therefore diminishing my experience.

Great restaurant, tasty food, and super customer service! We ordered delivery and one item was forgotten. Management contacted me and ensured that the issue was rectified. Its inevitable that mistakes happen, but they made it right and its all good. And worth it, because the food was yummy! 10/10, highly recommend!
I called ahead for fish and chips to pick up. Great food that was nicely packed. Hot main course, cold Cole slaw, awesome tartar sauce and lemon wedges. Their filets are the least greasy fish I have gotten here in town. 3 very large pieces of fish, a generous helping of fries, and it was.ready when I got there. Packed in a large bag with handles, our orders were easy to carry, and the big flat bottomed bag rode well in the car so everything arrive home in perfect condition.
Everything here is good. The only place Ive ever been where I literally want everything on the menu. My plan of attack is a strict rule of never eating the same thing twice!
The service was great and the food was better! It was my first experience with this chain and Ill definitely try to come back again! Also, you can control the jukebox remotely with an app.

I have been to Black Bear Diner many times in different locations in Utah and was very impressed with how fresh and warm the food was with excellent taste. However, In Idaho Falls I ordered a chicken fried steak meal. The breaded meat was over cooked, the gravy was lumpy and cold and the mashed potatoes were cold and not fresh. Then I asked for a cornbread muffin that I was craving, but was highly disappointed. It was cold, almost frozen and not moist at all. I am not likely to go back any time soon, if at all.
Anna handled our big group with our six littles and multiple families like a pro! She was helpful and prompt to meet all our needs through the meal. GREAT service! The food was perfect as well. We left a happy bunch.
Fantastic. The wife got their chicken pot pie, and I got their Bigfoot chicken fried steak. We both said that it was amazing and good portion sizes too!! We were very satisfied!

Good food, fair prices. Service is usually pretty decent. My only complaint was that we had a party of ten, we called after church and they said 15-20 minutes. We got there and they said they couldnt accommodate a party of ten, and even said that it was due to COVID rules. Why they didnt tell us on the phone I have no idea, but there was already a party of 14 there when we got there. After some arguing they did allow us to put two tables together. Really just a communication problem I think. Like I said the food was good, we wont hesitate to go back again. Want to try their weekend prime rib!

My wife and I eat at Black Bear diner at least 2-3 times a week. We are picky when it comes to good service and every time we have came in Anna has gone above and beyond to make sure our order is always done right and our experience beyond enjoying. Oh my heck!!!! This was by far the best trip I have had to black bear! Julie was our server she was stellar! The food was excellent.. And unbelievably fast!!! The place was clean i watched as our server bounced all over the place and had a smile on her face the entire time! Definitely going back!!!
Julia was very ready to please and willing to help us with a solution for our dietary needs. She helped us expediently and had the air of caring for her customers. It was very refreshing to be served by someone so attentive towards all her customers and to happily serve us, from taking us to be seated, to ringing us up. We have previously walked out of Black Bear Dinner twice. This was the last chance we were going to give you, and Julia saved the day with her excellent customer service!
I was made to feel dumb to ask if your orange juice is pasteurized. Being newly pregnant and my first, IM ALLOWED TO ASK THESE THINGS and not made to feel dumb asking. Sitting across from the juice maker I did get to see that a common kitchen knife hanging out on the counter top was used to stir the squeezed juice...then placed back onto the counter top. Im glad I said no thank you to the juice.The chicken fried steak and diced potatoes were bomb!
Im giving it 3.5 pretty good food.. prices not too bad. They were understaffed... needed a busboy or something it took us 20 minutes to get seated 20 minutes to get served... my friend had the Fried Chicken she like that I have chicken fried steak it was okay Ill go back and try something else out
For the price, the food is great. But its the servers that shine here. The food couldnt been microwave corn dogs, and the servers wouldve had me coming back. Give em a raise!
I understand being shorthanded and stressed out, but I do not understand providing horrible service. I made a very simple order...2 eggs, avocado, 3 sausage links and cottage cheese. I received 2 eggs, fruit, sausage. When I went in the girl was very rude, could not find my order so I had to wait even longer listening to them swear about it, mind you in front of customers. For $10 I would have at least hoped to get what I paid for.
Breakfast food all day, attentive servers, clean diner. Cant go wrong choosing Black Bear in Idaho Falls. I know I’ll be back!
Ive only been here once for the breakfast, and the pancakes were AMAZING! Our service was the absolute best, our servers name was Cheyenne. We went in a big group and we were very well taken care of, and they were very reasonably priced. Will definitely be back and would suggest giving them a try!!

We usually love this place but recently its been a toss up to whether we will have a good experience or not. The food is almost always delicious but its usually the service that seals the deal. The last few times we went we had waitresses that we had to ask to have our waters refilled, we waited forever in between actually being attended to, had our bill given to us at the same time as our food like we were being rushed and to top it off we were sat right near the bar and could hear the staff talking rudely about their customers. It was honestly a little upsetting and I get having difficult customers but that kind of talk within ear shot of the rest of us there was just plain uncomfortable. We sat for forever waiting (not even that busy) and my husband looked over and noticed a rotten and molding orange (pictured below) in their juicer. We waited and watched as more and more employees walked past, glancing at the machine and even using it without noticing before we finally said something. Makes you think about how many rotten oranges have gone through and been fed to people. Also while eating my waffle I bit down on something hard and super sour. There was a seed cooked into my waffle but thats not a huge deal. We will probably be eating there again because we love the place and had our first meal there as husband and wife 3 years ago but the service has definitely gone down hill.On a positive note, we absolutely loved one waitress we recently had there. Her name was Ally and she was so kind, so patient and beyond helpful. We could tell she had a long day and she even went as far to apologise that she wasnt quite on top of her game and wasnt having the best day. I really respect that and was impressed with the level of service we received even when she couldve justified just half doing her job. Thank you Ally!
We had Anna help us May 7 2021. The service she provided was exceptional, my husband who is hard to please said that was the best service we have had there. She was very nice and knowledgeable and we would come back for her service. Thank you Anna!

Does anyone even work here. Took forever to get seated so we took it upon ourself to seat ourself at the bar. Didnt get service for about 15 mins while staff shoved food in their face..then carried customers plates out without washing their hands. The cooks would yell at the waitresses so the whole restaurant could hear. And Im not even sure who the manager was and everyone wanted to quit.
The only word to explain this place is... AMAZING!!!!The staff is the best... Tracy, Kelly and my little sister Julia are pros at their job. They are all about the customers.

Black Bear is a small chain of all day breakfast places. Ive been here only a few times, Ive never been impressed. Ive had a mixed bag of service and food experiences here. My last trip was a real downer. My party was ignored a dozen times before we were greated and seated. Our server was obviously struggling, but wasnt getting any help from the rest of the staff. The restaurant was not busy, there was plenty of help available. When the food came it was cold. Drinks were never refilled. This was a failure on the staff as a whole. Not just one struggling server.
Kenzee was an excellent waitress. She was very efficient, courteous, and friendly. All your staff worked like a well-oiled machine. Everyone worked as a team, in that it was noticeable that each was helping with each others duties. We always enjoy a meal at Black Bear Diner, but this was definitely exceptional.
I love their breakfasts. Theres something for everybody.

If I could rate this place with a zero I would food was cold and the waitress Didnt seem to want to work. She didnt refill our drinks even when we asked. She didnt seem to know what she was doing as well.
This was the worst breakfast I have ever had in a restaurant. The food was cold. It had zero salt. No flavor at all. Unfortunately I couldnt send it back because I had it delivered. Horrible.

As always great food at black bear! The California omelette was delicious and Im going to eat it again!!! I really want the recipe!! Super friendly staff and very adorably mannered waitress!! She wears round glasses and has a neice named Lily and a 15 yo son. I cannot remember her name but she was the sweetest thing! Thanks love! Oh and thanks for that sweet note on the reciept! My husband and I are cross country truck drivers.We love the food and service at all the locations we’ve visited however we ordered food on Friday.The food we got was plain and half of the items ordered were missing. We wanted the Griz with scrambled eggs and sausage for the rest of the sides we got the everything but sausage and the country potatoes were very plain nothing like the normal great tasting flavorful ones at other locations. Also we ordered a salad for the side to our meatloaf order and extra gravy we got the meatloaf and country potatoes that were again very plain. I hate to complain but wanted to let you know compared to other locations this one needs work.When I asked about the information for the passport the lady had no idea what I was talking about again I don’t like complaining but just wanted to inform you so other people will have a better experience.Thank you for your time.

Worst customer service ever. The waitress was so ignorant and rude. She literally ignored us for about 20 minutes and when ahead and helped other people that came after us first. We decided to just leave and head to olive garden which was amazing customer service. Olive garden waitresses are very professional specially compared to black bear diner. Would rate no stars but have to rate at least one.

My wife and I went into the diner to eat lunch today. We were promptly seated and our drink order was taken and delivered. We waited over 15 minutes and never was acknowledged let alone placed our order.If this were the first time I might have ignored this. Alas this happened several months ago. I went and paid for our ice tea’s and the wife and I left.Prior to this there was an on-duty manager that would not have allowed this.Sorry Black-bear, but you keep falling down the list of places to go eat.Several weeks ago I received a call from a nice young lady and we discussed the above. It’s nice to know that management will take the steps to correct errors of the employees.
Although short staffed for midday food was good and service was very good.
This restaurant has such a homey feel to it, the entire staff from servers to kitchen staff are amazingly friendly and professional, and finally the food is so filling and fantastically priced. Id give them more stars if I could 😎
