A coffee shop for normals.Listen. I’m not gonna lie, coffee shops, to me have historically fallen into some category or specific type of coffee shop. You know where every one that goes there are alike... You know what I mean....where as soon as you walk in you immediately know what kind of shop it is. Being in shops that are heavily religious-oriented or affiliated is not uncommon, but it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. Seeing as Joy Coffee was attached to and seemingly part of the City House and Church of the Four Corners, I had my expectations as to what kind of shop this would be, and it wasn’t.What I found was a very bright, open, unassuming and somewhat antiseptic environment relative to fitting in a traditional coffee shop genre. It felt more like a coffee shop at a college or office complex. I found ample seating, sufficient WiFi, a nice and somewhat fruity drip coffee, and one.... just one.... very tasty almond cookie. I appreciated the simple but ample menu. I liked the staff that was pleasant and supportive of your order. Prices were reasonable.Customers here ran the gamut, so it felt a surprising melting pot of people of all ages just studying, working, and hanging out. I certainly didn’t feel out of the normal customer range. There was nothing specifically distracting, no loud music, or off-putting anything whatsoever. I got plenty of work done. I’ll be back for sure.I’m not a coffee nerd, therefore I am not qualified or skilled enough to break down the coffee quality or the skill of the barista people. They were, however, quite patient with me when I put my credit card in backwards. So there’s that. All in all, if you are in the area and want to meet someone for a coffee or a snack, it’s definitely worth a shot.

When I walked into Joy Coffee this morning it felt like I had just walked into a warm hug. The atmosphere is so beautiful and calming and I felt invited immediately. Drew was so helpful behind the counter and he explained the beautiful message Joy Coffee stands for and he made me a delicious iced almond milk latte as well! I will be returning as soon as possible!

Moriah and her staff at Joy Coffee are incredible. There is always a welcoming barista ready for you when you enter. Joy Coffee has an atmosphere where you can get stuff done, have a relaxing conversation with a friend, relax in the morning before the chaos starts, or just a friendly wave as you stop by for your morning cup of joy. I recommend their A-ok blend on drip or one of their seasonal lattes. CHECK THEM OUT and stay a spell!

Lovely and restful space. My latte was amazing, and the homemade shortbread is to die for!I have not been going into coffee shops or restaurants because of Covid, but I felt comfortable at Joy while I waited for my carry-out order. The seating areas are nicely distanced from each other, and the high ceiling gives it a very spacious feel. Baristas are masked, and there was plenty of space for me to stand around without being too close to anyone else. I will definitely be back for more!

Finally a third wave coffee shop in Independence! Joyco has an absolutely beautiful space with tons of natural light with ample and diverse seating options. They have cafe tables for eating and studying, soft couches and chairs for lounging, a marble tulip table for small groups up to five, multiple bars and even a separate kid friendly seating area with toys!!Their coffee is incredible from a roaster in Nashville called Stay Golden. There is no other coffee shop like this is Independence. They have a wide array of pastry options like English scones, cookies, cinnamon rolls, cakes and more hearty foods like quiche, sandwiches and salads. The baristas are friendly and the space will leave you with a smile.

Look no further! All the ingredients of an excellent coffee shop have culminated in Joy Coffee!I was served an excellent cup of an African blend on drip, and an excellenter service from the barista. After being in the coffee industry for over 6 years I cant tell you how rare it is for an equally experienced barista to be genuine, kind, and knowledgeable!During the current crisis they are open for dine-in, which is increasingly hard to come by these days.Way to go guys Youre killing it! Keep up the good work! Drew was the best!
