Great place to buy a self defence item

Worst experience as a customer ever. Rudest staff, they lie about their product and talk it up, and convince you to spend $300 on a switchblade. Then when its in your pocket LITERALLY a week later the spring breaks, so you bring the knife back WITH YOUR RECEIPT. Before you can even finish your sentence about what happened they finish it for you telling you it happens all the time, and (quality wise) basically that theyre bought off of wish.com! THERE IS NO REFUNDS OR WARRANTIES. THEY GOT EXTREMELY RUDE WITH ME BECAUSE I WAS UPSET. DO NOT TAKE YOUR BUSINESS HERE. THEY ARE RIPPING ALL OF US OFF!!

Not sure why the reviews are so poor. I was immediately greeted and shown to the gear I was looking for. I was able to try on several different sizes to find a good fit, and the woman helping me was pleasant and jovial. The price of the gear was a LOT better than I was finding online. Overall very pleased!

Bad advice given for self defense options - the suggestions for my girlfriend were absurd as the products they suggested for her would be out of reach or easily removed when attacked by an assailant (in my educated opinion). By the way, a good resource for self-defense product reviews would be hard2hurt on youtube (pros and cons of different items are explained). I myself didnt care for the owners personality. Prices are 2x what you pay on the internet for every item (or more).I tried to give them another chance today, after the lady there yesterday said to call today when the person who could answer my question would be working (not a good start)... and heres an example of the owner/specialists personality that I disliked from their answer today:When I inquired if they provided a service for a a type of item, the response was not, Im sorry we dont do that for that type of item, instead it was more along the lines of We do that for blanks. I asked if they considered my item a blank. The response was basically, uhh, that item is not a blank. Not a sorry no, but basically saying duh your stupid.Just so you know: they do not consider machetes to be knives. That is not an obvious answer, as a machete is definitely type of knife in almost everyones mind. Though they did derive from swords used by Spaniards in South America and from other swords in other cultures around the world. In common parlance though, most would describe a machete as a type of knife.

Very disrespectful. The woman did not greet me and spent 10 minutes on the phone before even helping me. She then spoke to me as if I was stupid when asking questions about the merchandise. I will never go back here!

Large percentage of inventory is fancy and decorative knives. The rest is decent inventory. good quality product. Unfortunately it also comes with a price tag. If youre needing something in Pitch and cannot wait three weeks to have it shipped. This place will save your life.

Ive wanted to go here for a long time. Their web store is far more impressive. The physical store is not really impressive at all. Its pretty underwhelming actually. Its use their web store before going back. I might go if I was looking for a generic item in stock like a pocket knife or practice item for a martial art or something like that. As an intended destination, its pretty lacking in selection for most items. To bad, but like I said their web store is pretty nice.

I have been doing business with oddessy for over 20 years and all my weapons and uniforms are from them never have a problem with quality I would recommend them to anyone anytime always a pleasure always knowledgeable and friendly

I saw this place and thought it was going to be some lame run down wannabe store. Then realized why they say to not judge something upon looking at it. This mans selection was not short... He knew exactly what he was talking about. He had extensive knowledge of the products, how to handle them, what types, and where to get other items not carried in stores typically. If you need a place to go for martials arts hes got it. You need self defense, security items even purses with holsters in them hes got it. I promise you with my word if you pass this store up when you see it. You will truly miss out on a unique experience.

Odd couple, not very kind at all.

Good selection but they very obviously do not like kids there. Which is a shame because both of my kids are currently training in martial arts and are well-behaved. Unfortunately, they are the only store like it in the area. Still would rather order things online than go back.

I did not care for the customer service here. In a lot of ways I believe that the staff was frustrated with questions I had and some of the questions I had a staff member seemed to think was funny. I don’t believe there are stupid questions only stupid answers! And laughing at someone’s questions like there stupid for asking the question in the first place is serious deal breaker for me! As in life you can only obtain intelligence by asking the really hard questions otherwise we remain ignorant.

I dont know why this company has such negative reviews on the internet. The lady that helped me today was so kind and helpful. She was very knowledgeable about the products. Simply read the signs. Dont lean on the glass, ask for assistance to hold something, no returns, only exchanged without a receipt. Its not hard to follow the rules of an establishment that sells weapons. This company has been around forever and is successful for a reason. So many people try to take advantage of small businesses. Obviously this isnt walmart, so dont go in expecting to walk all over the company. I had a very nice experience here. I will be coming back and would recommend it to anyone.

Good place for combative supply. They dont carry Benchmade anymore for some reason, and instead sell cheaper, more disposable knives. Many knives they have on display arent even for sale.

Some of my students visited this store and were met with rudeness, hostility, and inflated ego of the owner. Discipline and respect are a core feature of martial arts, something the owner clearly doesnt possess. Also demonstrated was a clear lack of knowledge of the history and culture of where many aspects of martial arts come from. Stay safe, stay clear.

I shopped here several times over the past few years, and have regretted it each time. The staff is much less knowledgeable about their products than I had expected, the products they feature are seriously over priced, and they have repeatedly tried to pass off low-quality products as being name-brand and reliable.For me, the kicker that caused me to never shop there again was when I went there for a telescoping baton, because I had just gotten a job as an unarmed night security guard but had already encountered several situations that made me seriously afraid for my life. The man behind the counter guided me to a particular brand, telling me I could trust my life to it in a pinch. That evening, I tested it by hitting it against the back of a foam-padded office chair, and it bent more than 15 degrees and refused to close!Do not shop here. The owners do not care about anything except profit, and have made very bad customer service decisions in order to get there.

They are so over priced its sickening. $2800.00 for a browning hi power is insane. $440 for a benchmade 3300 infidel is ridiculous. I had serious cash to spend and when they wouldnt budge on the price I could not believe it. Must be a drug front. Cuz they certainly dont want to do business they rather just sit on it. They rather have no sale than lower the price by just a few bucks. Ill never be back. And the crazy lady behind the counter is a racist. I wish I could leave a zero star review.

Some friends and I went to Odyssey to look for bokken, which they had, but the other two items we were looking for, a Saya, and an Obi. Both are used in Iaido, oversimplified as the art of the draw. When we asked the worker about the Obi and Saya, he didn’t know what they were, which was fine, it’s what came after that that made the visit really terrible. He was extremely rude to use whenever we mentioned Iaido, and said that it must be an art that was made up by someone. He also didn’t know much about about the traditional wear of the samurai, he insisted that he did though. He also kept telling us incorrect info about Hakama, and wouldn’t listen to what we said. He was rude the whole time as well.

They have quality products but they need to work on their customer service skills and product knowledge. I was the only one in the store trying things on in the fitting room and I could hear the owner right outside the door the whole time. He brought the items to the room for me and yet he was afraid I was going to steal them?Then I find they sold me the wrong item and was unaware until I got to my dojo. I call ahead to make sure they would have the right item or return it. The women becomes unruly. She claims theres signs all over the store saying no returns and that I HAD to be wrong because she has 7 catalogs she orders from and they all have the same thing so I MUST be wrong. So, I go in to exchange the item. I take careful notice of the walls, the counter tops, the register, NOWHERE is there a sign saying No returns. There are signs saying you need an itemized receipt for an exchange, but nothing about no returns. Only place where it shows No returns is on the receipt! How are you supposed to be aware of their policy when they dont make you aware of it until the final sale????Then theres the product knowledge. Theyre telling me that theres only one style of hakama that exists yet I go to my dojo and the differences between the hakama I just bought and my classmates are obvious. The ties are ~20 inches shorter and its more of a pant rather than a skirt.Needless to say I wont be returning to the store. I can get the same deals online while getting a return policy and not having to put up with rude customer service.

This is not Gina, this is her son. I was in there today purchasing a couple items and both store owners were very respectful towards me so I really dont know what the negative comments are all about. Sometimes you cant judge a business based on star ratings and comments unless you go to that store yourself.

Possibly the rudest and most ignorant sales staff I have ever met. I took some students in there that I am teaching arnis to for rattan batons. Marge or what ever the woman who was theres name was started bullshitting my students about the quality of their batons. She clearly knew nothing about the subject but continued to spout bad information even after being corrected multiple times. The prices were just stupid high and we left without purchasing anything. I encourage people to look elsewhere for any of their martial arts needs as businesses like this are a disservice to the community. (and fyi staff is armed... As if anyone would want to steal their Chinese switch blades, toy throwing stars or crap selection of firearms...)

Was very nice at first, but got very angry when I price matched some of his stuff and found out he was charging near 100% markup from online stores. I like local and dont expect them to match online but %80 + markup is too much. I asked if he could come down on his price since it was cheaper elsewhere and he said no. I then browsed some more as I was interested in other stuff. When I asked a question about something else he told me I had slapped him in the face and kicked my daughter and I out of the store.

Staff is rude, complaining about insurance. Anyone under 18 not allowed to touch any weapons even practice ones. 3 of my kids are in martial arts. How do you know if something will woek for them or not! Will NEVER go back and will NEVER recomend to anyone! I would have gave less than 1 star but did not have the option to

Dont spend your hard earned money at this business. Bought a knife there and when I got home I noticed it had a loose handle. Took it back with the the paper work for an exchange within seven days and was refused. they told me it was acheap piece of crap knife. but when it was being sold to me it was a great and wonderful knife. They just cannot be trusted. If you review their refund policy you will see why. there is NO REFUNDS. Buyer Beware/

We live several hours away from Oddessy MA, but purchased 2 bo staffs while we were traveling through Independence, as there are no martial arts stores near us. Within 20 minutes of getting the bo staff back home, while practicing a form, a 6-inch piece of the bo snapped off the end. No striking was involved, just a simple form! We called Oddessy, and they said they could not do anything. Really? This is a solid white oak straight bo staff, it snaps into 2 pieces after less than 20 minutes of use, and they cant do anything? I dont expect them to ship a new one to us, but at least a partial refund would be reasonable. Very disappointed.
